Xiaomi teases Mi True Wireless 3 Earbuds, with HiFi sound & flagship level noise reduction

Xiaomi has just teased a new audio based product earlier today (27th December 2021). The new product in question is the Mi True Wireless 3 Earbuds. As the name suggests, it is a truly wireless earphones that will be launching in China soon.

The company shared the new teaser on its official Weibo account (a Chinese microblogging website) with an image poster. Looking at the teaser poster, we can see the upcoming Mi True Wireless 3 Earbuds in a black color variant. Notably, the design of these earphones charging case and earbud tip also resembles another product, namely the Buds 3 Pro that we had reviewed back in November. In other words, the individual buds may also arrive with a small stem.

While finer details about the Mi True Wireless 3 Earbuds is still unknown, the teaser hints at the earphones featuring “flagship level noise reduction capability.” Meaning, we might see either active noise cancellation or other forms of noise reduction on the new earbuds. Additionally, the Mi True Wireless 3 Earbuds will offer HiFi sound quality for an improved audio experience. The Chinese tech giant is set to announce the hearables tomorrow (28th December 2021) in a launch event. So stay tuned for more, as we will be covering the conference.

Xiaomi has launched a new wireless car charger in China. The product is officially called Xiaomi Wireless Car Charger Pro. Its main highlight is support for 50W fast wireless charging.

The newly released wireless car charger from Xiaomi is compatible with a wide variety of smartphones from Xiaomi, Samsung, and Apple. But for some reason, the battery of the Mi 10 Ultra cannot be filled with this charger. The company explicitly mentions this incompatibility.

The firm claims that this wireless charger is designed for one-hand usage. Users can simply remove their phone from the stand by pressing either of the two buttons on each side of the clamp.

As the clamp is adjustable, customers can place handsets of various sizes. In fact, they can even charge devices with a case (up to 4mm thickness).

As mentioned in the beginning, the charger can output up to 50W. By fixing the charger in the AC window, users can minimize the heat generated while charging smartphones that support fast wireless charging.

Last but not least, the accessory ships with a dual-port adapter consisting of a USB Type-C port and a USB Type-A port along with a cable.

The Xiaomi Wireless Car Charger Pro is priced at ¥369 ($58). But for a limited time, it will be sold at ¥349 ($55) as part of a crowdfunding campaign, which kickstarts at 10 AM (local time) on December 28.

Samsung Tri Folding phone surfaces again, this time with more details

We had previously reported on Samsung working on a new foldable device that had a display that can bend three times. Now, a new patent further hints that the company appears to be fleshing out its plans for a unique upcoming handset. It also offers us a look at new details and visuals of its Tri Folding Galaxy phone.

According to a LetsGoDigital report, the South Korean tech giant filed an extensive patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) that details its new foldable smartphone. For those unaware, we had covered a number of patents related to a Tri Folding smartphone from Samsung back in 2020. This year, we had even reported on the brand working on a tri folding tablet as well. Now, the latest patent is for a smartphone that has a display that bends in a “Z” format.

All of these documents only point that Samsung is clearly planning on building this triple folding device. The newest patent showcases even more details about the new breed of foldable phones. This handset features three separate screens that can unfold out to become one large and seamless display. Furthermore, this smartphone also features two hinges, with one folding inward while the other folding outward to form the “Z” shape, similar to certain previous patents. This model will reportedly arrive with S Pen support, under display camera, an HDMI connector, and more.

As of right now, the company is the market leader in the foldable smartphone segment. So it arrives as no surprise that Samsung is looking to further expand its presence to maintain its dominance. It is still unknown if the brand is actually working on this device or covering all bases, but looking at the number of tri folding patents we have covered, we can speculate that at least one of these will likely be worked on even further.

OPPO and vivo have been unofficially referred to as Green Factory and Blue Factory respectively in China, based on the colors of their logos, but the companies have now made the nicknames official by trademarking them.

The trademarks were filed back in May 2020 but got registered only this year, or on March 2021, to be precise. They are valid until 2031.

The trademark filing (via My Drivers) further reveals that the Green Factory label will cover a total of nine types of scientific equipment while the Blue Factory label will keep seven mechanical equipment under its umbrella, although details about them weren’t available.

Public information shows that OPPO was founded in 2004, with Chen Mingyong as its founder. The company entered the field of smartphones in 2011 and launched OPPO X903 – the first Chinese sliding Android smartphone.

vivo, on the other hand, was founded by Shen Wei, who was earlier responsible for the BBK Electronics mobile phone business. It made its entry into the world of smartphones with the launch of the vivo V1 in 2011.

OPPO recently completed a merger with OnePlus with the two companies agreeing to integrate their research and development capabilities. The most noticeable resultant change of the move has been OnePlus devices now shipping with ColorOS.

A day before Christmas, iQOO confirmed to launch the iQOO 9 series on January 5 in China. Today, one of the brand executives revealed that the company will continue its partnership with BMW M Motorsport for the new generation of smartphones as well. Hence, there will be a special edition, which has been already exposed by the first-look teaser.

According to Justin Jian, product manager of iQOO, the iQOO 9 series will have a BMW M Motorsport Limited Edition like the previous generations. At the same time, he also says that the new logo of the high-performance car manufacturer is ‘really cool’ and he is not wrong at all.

Anyway, this logo will not be embossed on the special edition smartphone just like its predecessors. But it will be found in promotional materials. Further, although the brand has not confirmed it yet, the special edition will be most likely based on iQOO 9 Pro, similar to older models.

Since we are still a little over a week away from the launch, we expect to learn more about the iQOO 9 series in the coming days via certifications, leaks, and teasers. So far, we know that at least, one of the phones will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

Lei Jun teases Xiaomi 12 retail box in an anti-leak parody video

With the launch of the Xiaomi 12 series being just around the corner, various rumors and leaks have been surfacing online. In response to this, the company’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, released a new anti-leak parody video.

The new video was shared on his official Weibo account (a Chinese microblogging website) and even teases the retail box, in which the flagship series will be packaged and shipped in. This video is purely for entertainment purposes and is clearly not meant to be taken seriously as we can see the Xiaomi 12 series box is secured with a number of small locks. These locks are in place just to prevent the smartphone from being leaked and are not actually practical.

But it is still amusing to see the Chinese tech giant’s executive attempt to prevent these numerous leaks in the parody video. The caption of the video even states that secrecy is hard and its marketing department was forced to come up with a new idea to prevent any information from getting out. Looking at the packaging, we can observe the usual branding on the black box, with a large “12” at the front. Notably, the official had to go through a number of larger boxes to get to the official retail box.

Talking about leaks, we had recently covered one, which revealed certain specifications and even some images as well. Apparently, the base model will sport a 6.28 inch display, while the Pro variant will have a larger 6.73 inch Samsung E5 AMOLED LTPO display. This panel will feature 2K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a single punch hole selfie camera for a 32 megapixel sensor. On the rear, the device will house a triple camera setup with a 50 megapixel primary sensor, 50 megapixel telephoto shooter, and another 50 megapixel ultra wide angle lens. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 5G chipset.

Xiaomi’s official Weibo account dedicated to MIUI yesterday continued its barrage of dropping teasers for MIUI 13, saying that the soon-to-release software skin upgrade will come with a “Privacy Security Goalkeeper” paired with a system-level anti-fraud feature.

While further elaboration is needed to know what that exactly means, part of the new feature’s scope extends to protection against telecom fraud. Telecom fraud is the abuse of telecommunications products and services with the intention of stealing money from customers and/or their communications providers. It’s usually done through unrestricted access to outbound calls or by sending links to web pages designed to steal your data through SMS. Privacy Goalkeeper will supposedly be screening against these.

Additionally, the post highlights the December 28th launch date for the Android skin version again, which is the same day the Xiaomi 12 series will be going live as well.

MIUI appears to have ‘matured’ lately and isn’t going big on features and UI changes like it did with some earlier releases. Instead, the focus this year is once again on improving performance, stability, and security. Judging from some leaked screenshots and videos, the update doesn’t seem to be bringing much to the table in terms of changes to the UI. The main highlight appears to be enhanced widget support, with multiple system apps getting new iOS-style widgets, complete with cool opening/closing animations.

Apart from this, the latest teasers once again promise nothing but improved fluency – something that we have already seen with MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 12.5 Enhanced. Earlier this week, Huawei had launched its latest foldable smartphone, the P50 Pocket. It is a clamshell style flip phone that arrived with a number of notable features. And now, we even have the repair prices for the new device, and to no one’s surprise, it is quite expensive.

Typically, a flagship smartphone usually has a high cost of repair for its different components like the display, rear panel, or motherboard; and this holds especially true for the Chinese tech giant’s P50 Pocket as well. Talking about the device in question, it sports a 6.9 inch foldable display that has a 21:9 aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and more. Under the hood, it is powered by a 4G enabled Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC and 4,000mAh battery pack.

Apparently, the pricing for the base P50 Pocket and its premium edition is the same for certain. However, this doesn’t include the display, which costs up to a whopping 4,379 Yuan (roughly 690 US Dollars) for the premium version while the base variant’s display costs 3,579 Yuan to repair (roughly 560 US Dollars). In other words, the display alone is worth two capable mid range smartphones. Although, it isn’t something expected considering the specifications of the foldable OLED panel.

Similarly, the repair price for the 8GB + 128GB variant’s motherboard is 3,399 Yuan (roughly 535 US Dollars) while the 512GB variant on the Premium edition costs 4,599 Yuan (roughly 720 US Dollars). So, its clear that breaking your new Huawei P50 Pocket might set you back quite a bit due to these eye watering costs.

Xiaomi is all set to launch the Xiaomi 12 series tomorrow (December 28). The company is expected to unveil three devices in the lineup, namely Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12X, and Xiaomi 12 Pro. However, the firm has been only teasing the vanilla and Pro models. The latest teaser for the latter phone reveals some details about its speakers.

Yesterday, the official Weibo account of Xiaomi smartphones shared an image highlighting all the key features of the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Pro. According to this picture, the device will make a breakthrough in sound quality.

The image says that the handset will arrive with a dual-core four-unit speaker system tuned by Harmon Kardon. In simpler words, the phone will house quad speakers to offer an immersive sound experience.

This type of speaker system is usually only found on tablets. Therefore, tipster Digital Chat Station says that the handset’s speakers should sound very good.

The same picture also reiterates other features of the smartphone that were teased separately earlier. Such as the device will arrive with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 2K LTPO display, 120W fast charging support with Surge P1 chip, and Sony IMX707 primary camera with self-developed CyberFocus focus technology.

OnePlus 10 Pro confirmed to be unveiled on January 4, pre-registration starts in China

Bookings for the much-awaited OnePlus 10 Pro are now open in China, according to an official post on Weibo, meaning it shouldn’t take much longer for the flagship phone to become available globally as well.

Pre-sale will be going live at 10 o’clock (2 am) on January 4th in China and bookings are totally free of cost. Registration will even grant you a gift pack worth 1000 Yuan or around $157, so there’s that.

Previously, Pete Lau, chief product officer of OPPO and CEO of OnePlus, announced that the OnePlus 10 Pro will be going live in January 2022. Rumors had earlier set a January 5th release date but it has now been officially confirmed to be a day earlier. We aren’t complaining though, since the sooner, the better.

There is no word on the launch of the vanilla model at the event but it’s quite obvious now that it will be unveiled sometime after the Pro variant.

In a Weibo post, the OnePlus CEO had also recently revealed that the OnePlus 10 Pro will come with an LTPO 2.0 display which should result in better battery life. LTPO tech was developed by Apple and allows a more flexible refresh rate ranging between 1Hz and 120Hz. Other display specs include a size of 6.7-inches, QHD+ resolution, and that it would be manufactured by Samsung.

In the camera department, the smartphone will have a triple-camera setup on the rear, comprised of a 48-megapixel primary sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and an 8-megapixel lens with 3x optical zoom support.

Honor has officially confirmed that the brand’s first foldable smartphone is called Honor Magic V and is expected to soon get launched if the teasers from the company are anything to go by. Although the company has not yet revealed the launch date.

In the latest teaser video shared by the company, the design of the upcoming Honor Magic V foldable smartphone has been revealed, giving us a pretty good idea about how the phone will look and how it will function.

It has now been confirmed that the smartphone will come with a book-life fold design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and not the clamshell fold as we have seen on the Galaxy Z Flip3 or the Moto Razr smartphones.

The Honor Magic V is being developed with a focus on a large-screen experience. It is said that after unfolding the device, it will offer a tablet-like experience and the adaption of the app for the system screen has also been optimized.

Honor CEO claims that the Magic V will be the leading foldable smartphone available in the market in 2022. As said, currently there’s no information available about the launch or availability of this new device. But we expect the phone to go official in January 2022.

The device is confirmed to come powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset which was launched earlier this month. A recent leak hinted about an 8-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover screen for the upcoming Honor foldable smartphone but it remains to be seen if the Magic V is this device. It is also said to use display panels supplied by BOE and Visionox.

Next week, Realme will be hosting a launch event on 4th January where the company will unveil its next-generation flagship smartphone — the Realme GT 2 Pro. Ahead of the launch, details about the phone are surfacing online.

Now, Xu Qi, an executive at Realme has hinted about the screen resolution of the upcoming Realme GT 2 Pro smartphone. In a Weibo post, he has written “32161440” which could mean 3216 x 1440 pixels.

It’s likely to be the screen resolution for the upcoming flagship smartphone and with an aspect ratio of less than 21:9, the device is expected to feature a 3.2K display. We expect to get more details related to this in the coming days.

The smartphone is expected to be offered in three different versions — Regular, Master Edition, and a Camera-focused model. These devices along with the vanilla Realme GT 2 are expected to go official on Jan. 4.

The company has teamed up with industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa to design the Realme GT 2 Pro. The Master Edition model will have a clear paper-like white back. The rear shell of the device has a triple camera unit, which includes a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS support. Towards its right is the Realme logo with the designer’s signature.

Based on the leaks and rumors, the Realme GT 2 Pro is expected to feature a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, an OIS-assisted 50-megapixel triple camera unit, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up to 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage, and 65W fast charging support.

Just a couple of days ahead of the official launch of the Xiaomi 12 series smartphones, the company has shared more details about the devices through the official teaser posters.

This time, the Chinese giant has revealed that the phones in the Xiaomi 12 series will come packed with the company’s in-house developed Surge P1 chip for power management. It has also confirmed some key details about the upcoming Pro model flagship smartphone.

The brand has confirmed that the Xiaomi 12 Pro will come powered by a 4,600mAh battery and has support for single-cell 120W fast charging technology. This all will be powered by the company’s own Surge P1 chip.

The dual-cell battery design that is currently being widely used in the market adversely affects the battery capacity and ultimately the battery life, according to Xiaomi.

The company adds that it has redesigned the charging architecture and through two self-developed charging chips, it optimized the charge pump structure and realized for the first time that a single cell has a wired second charging, and the heat loss is reduced by 30%.

Ahead of the launch, it has been revealed that the Xiaomi 12 features a smaller 6.28-inch display while the Pro model features a bigger 6.73-inch Samsung E5 AMOLED LTPO display along with support for 2K resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, both the devices will come powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, accompanied by enhanced versions of LPPDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

In the camera department, it is said to feature three 50-megapixel cameras. There is a 1/1.28-inch Sony IMX707 primary camera sensor with an f/1.9 aperture, a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 telephoto sensor, and a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 ultrawide lens with a 115-degree FOV.

On the front side, there’s a 32-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling. The device will run on MIUI 13 based Android 12 OS. Along with 120W wired charging, it will have support for 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Earlier this year, the Google Fit application received support for a new feature that enabled Android smartphones to monitor the heart rate and the respiratory rate on the device. Now, it has been confirmed that the feature is available for iOS as well.

The Google Fit application on iOS for iPhone will now be able to record the user’s heart rate along with the respiratory rate, reports 9to5Google. The feature will also work when the smartphone doesn’t have an active internet connection.

For this feature to work, the device’s camera is used. When users place their finger on the rear camera sensor of the device and apply slight pressure, Google fit can track the incoming light in the sensor to gauge the heart rate.

Users can also place their hand in front of a light source and allow Google Fit to measure their heartbeat by tracking what the company says are subtle changes in the color of the user’s fingers. It takes about 30 seconds to show users a graph with beats per minute.

After the results are shown on the screen, users also have an option to save the vitals. Google claims that the accuracy of the process is determined by algorithms that also account for factors like age and skin tone, among others.

The feature was first introduced in February this year but was initially limited to the Pixel lineup of smartphones and gradually the company added support for more devices. Now with support for iOS devices, it has expanded to more devices.

Tecno has silently unveiled the POVA 5G as its first 5G-ready handset. Like the predecessor POVA series of smartphones, the POVA 5G comes with a massive display and a huge battery. In addition, it is equipped with a 50-megapixel quad-camera unit. Here is all the information on the specifications and features of the POVA 5G.

The rear camera system of the POVA 5G has a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel camera, and an AI lens. For selfies, the device is fitted with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. The POVA 5G offers photography features such as 4K time-lapse and panorama.

The Tecno POVA 5G has a 6,000mAh battery, which is coupled with 18W fast charging. The company claims that a 15-minute charge will offer 3 hours of gameplay time. The POVA 5G offers 775 hours of standby time, 55 hours of talk time, and 11 hours of gaming. The device measures 172.82 x 78.24mm, and its thickness is less than 1cm.

It appears that the company may offer a free pair of earbuds worth Rs 1,499 to the buyers of the POVA Neo. As far as launch date is concerned, the publication claims that it will break cover in January 2022 in India.

Xiaomi 12 is all set to go official with the Xiaomi 12X and Xiaomi 12 Pro on Dec. 28. Recently, reputed tipster Evan Blass shared the leaked renders of the Xiaomi 12. Soon after, he posted a leaked promo of the smartphone to give a good look at its design and color variants. At the same time, Chinese tipster Zealer has published real-life images of the Xiaomi 12 (or 12 Pro).

Xiaomi 12’s promo reveals that it will come in four hues such as black, blue, pink, and green. The front side of the device features a punch-hole display and a 50-megapixel triple camera unit on the back. Shown below are some live shots of the alleged Xiaomi 12.

Xiaomi 12 specifications (rumored)

Reports have revealed the compact-sized Xiaomi 12 will feature a 6.28-inch AMOLED display that offers a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It will be equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the display.

The device will feature a 32-megapixel camera for capturing selfies. Its rear camera setup will include a 50-megapixel main snapper, a 13-megapixel ultrawide shooter, and a 32-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powers the Xiaomi 12 with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It will be backed by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging, 30W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. Its other features include Android 12 with MIUI 13 skin and Harmon Kardon powered stereo speakers.

According to Xiaomiui, the above shown real-life images belong to the Xiaomi 12 Pro, and not Xiaomi 12. While both models have a very similar design, the camera sensors and physical buttons are said to be larger than the Xiaomi 12.

The Tecno Camon 18 went official last week in India. Fresh information reveals that Tecno planning to launch the Spark 8 Pro in the country. The below-shown tweet gives a look at the device.

The Spark 8 Pro poster shows that it will be flaunting a punch-hole display. The rear side of the phone will feature a triple camera unit. Its 48-megapixel primary camera will be optimized to capture better selfies in low-light conditions.

The landing page of the Spark 8 Pro is now live on Amazon India. While the above image showcases the phone in black color, it can be seen in blue edition on the retailer site. The listing confirms that the Spark 8 Pro will feature the Helio G85 chipset and it will carry support for 33W fast charging. It is unclear whether the device will debut before the end of 2022.

Tecno Spark 8 Pro specifications, price (rumored)

Tecno announced the Spark 8 Pro in Bangladesh last month. It appears that the same device could be heading to the Indian market. It has a 6.82-inch IPS LCD FHD+ display, an 8-megapixel front camera with dual front flash, and a 48-megapixel + 2-megapixel + Al lens triple camera unit with quad-LED flash.

The Spark 8 Pro with Helio G85 onboard comes with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of native storage. It has a 5,000mAh battery with 33W charging support. For security, it has a side-facing fingerprint scanner. There is no information available on Spark 8 Pro’s pricing in India. In Bangladesh, it is available for BDT 16,990 (~$198, ~Rs 14,890).

Xiaomi 12 Pro’s full specifications and images have appeared on its order page. While the page is not available for access, its screenshots have been shared on Weibo.

As can be seen in the images, the Xiaomi 12 Pro will come in colors like black, pink, green, and blue. The appearance of the Pro model is quite similar to the vanilla Xiaomi 12. However, the camera sensors and physical keys on the Pro are a bit larger than the Xiaomi 12.

The Xiaomi 12 is a smaller device featuring a 6.28-inch display, while the Pro model features a bigger 6.73-inch Samsung E5 AMOLED LTPO display. It carries support for 2K resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen punch-hole houses a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

The rear camera setup of the phone features three 50-megapixel cameras. There is a 1/1.28-inch Sony IMX707 primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture, a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 telephoto sensor, and a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 ultrawide lens with a 115-degree FOV.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powers the Xiaomi 12 Pro. The SoC will be accompanied by enhanced versions of LPPDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The device will run on MIUI 13 based Android 12 OS. The handset will be offering users Harmon Kardon quad-speaker unit.

For heat dissipation, the 12 Pro will come equipped with vapour chamber liquid-cooled temperature control system. The device will be backed by a 4,600mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging. It will offer an enhanced charging experience since it will be equipped with Xiaomi’s selfie-developed Surge P1 chip. The 12 Pro will carry support for 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.
