Royole FlexPai 3 render leaked, full design revealed with pop up selfie camera

While Samsung was one of the first brands to launch a foldable smartphone in the market, it wasn’t the first one to actually release a device with a foldable display. Royole takes that claim with its FlexPai lineup of foldable handsets, and now, we have have information on its upcoming third iteration of this series.

A known tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) shared a new image that was a leaked render of the upcoming FlexPai 3. In other words, the successor of the FlexPai 2 has just been revealed. Looking at the image, it appears that the Chinese smartphone maker has made major changes in design for the next generation of foldable handset. The device now features a dedicated rear mounted camera module and even feature a pop up selfie camera as well, opposed to the single vertically stacked camera module on the side of the display that acted as both the selfie and rear shooter.

Royole

Although, the rear camera module now only includes two sensors, which is a downgrade from last gen’s four image sensors. Furthermore, it appears that the device will be an outward folding device, similar to its predecessor, as we can also observe a square shaped area that is bent inward in the other half of the rear panel. This would likely help in accommodating the camera module’s bump when in the folded state.

As of right now, finer details regarding the smartphone is still unavailable. However, the Royole FlexPai 3 was also recently spotted on TENAA (Via XDADevelopers) that revealed some key information. The foldable phone will apparently feature a 7.2 inch display and will be powered by a 3,360mAh battery pack. Unfortunately, that is all the information we have to go on for now.

Google Tensor has quite a lot in common with Samsung Exynos, Pixel 6 code reveals

Google has heavily marketed the Tensor as being an in-house chipset but new information has now surfaced showing that the processor isn’t as original as indicated.

Andrei Frumusanu of Anandtech has revealed code showing that Google Tensor shares a lot in common with Samsung’s Exynos chipset (via Notebookcheck). The Tensor has been found to be a mid-point between the Exynos 2100 chip and the upcoming Exynos 2200. Multiple references to the Exynos 9845 (S5E9845) have also been spotted in Google’s own kernel code. In comparison, the Exynos 2100 is internally referred to as the Exynos 9840 (S5E9840).

From code alone, it’s quite obvious that Google’s Tensor is more of a heavily-customized Samsung Exynos than being a completely unique chip built from scratch.

Still, benchmarks have indicated that Google has actually put plenty of stuff of their own in the chipset. A recent benchmark comparing various flagship processors showed that the GPU found on the Tensor is the most powerful in the Android world.

While CPU and machine learning benchmarks haven’t been as satisfying, the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro have aced speed tests, even outperforming other Android flagships in some cases.

In conclusion, Google Tensor may have a strong relationship with Samsung’s Exynos, but its real-world performance has proven that it’s nothing to be concerned about. It would have been a lot cooler though if Google had been more honest.

Samsung reportedly starts mass production of components for the Galaxy S22 series

Samsung has been working on its next-generation Galaxy S-series smartphones which will be launched early next year. Now, months ahead of the official launch, a new report claims that the South Korean giant has started mass production of some of the components for the upcoming flagship smartphones.

The report coming from WinFuture claims that Samsung has started mass production of components for the three upcoming flagship phones — Galaxy S22 (SM-S901), Galaxy S22 Plus (SM-S906), and the Galaxy S22 Ultra (SM-S908).

It further adds that the process, which started sometime last week, is currently limited to a small number of parts, such as flex cables. Also, the report says that the company is currently focusing on the US variant and will then work on other models.

As for the launch date, there’s no confirmation about it. Some reports indicate that the devices will go official towards the end of January 2022 while there are other reports indicating the launch sometime in February.

Earlier, there were reports about the Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup getting launched in January but apparently, the launch has been pushed back to February as the company is now gearing up to launch the much-delayed Galaxy S21 FE in January 2022. This could happen during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022.

Coming to the specifications, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is rumored to sport a 6.8-inch QHD+ LTPO AMOLED display with a 120HZ refresh rate. The phone will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC or the Exynos 2200 depending on the region.

Its rear-facing camera module may include a 108-megapixel main snapper, a 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 10-megapixel periscope zoom lens with 10x optical zoom.

The smartphone is also said to feature a dedicated slot for storing the S Pen stylus. In the software devices, all the models in the lineup will come with Android 12-based One UI 4.0 out-of-the-box. The S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra are likely to house a 3,700mAh, a 4,500mAh, and a 5,000mAh battery, respectively. The Ultra model will support 45W fast charging, whereas the S22 and S22 Plus may continue to support 25W fast charging.

The Galaxy S21 floors the Pixel 6 Pro in wired charging & fingerprint speed tests

A square-up of the just-released Google Pixel 6 Pro and the Galaxy S21 series in relation to their wireless charging capability and fingerprint detection has put the S21 ahead of the latest flagship offering from Google. Both smartphones are powered by Samsung-produced chips, among a few other similarities. Both devices also come with a 5,000mAh battery, with 30W fast charging available with the Pixel 6 Pro.

A tech industry insider has now placed both smartphones side by side by testing their charging speeds and it seems the Galaxy S21 trumps the Pixel 6 Pro, which is a bit unexpected. With the 30W fast charging potential of the Pixel 6 Pro, it is expected to ultimately be faster than the normal wired charging. The results showed that the Galaxy S21 achieved 30% charging by the 15-minute mark while the Pixel 6 Pro had just 24%. The Pixel 6 had only achieved 84% charge by the 66-minute mark when the S21 had already reached 100%.

There is no mention of whether this experiment was replicated and this could be misleading if not interrogated within the context of the charging test itself. The Galaxy S21 series, according to the report, also had faster recognition speeds for fingerprints than the Pixel 6 Pro. This difference in speed could at best be marginal, as both devices are capable of quick fingerprint detection within seconds.

The conditions under which these tests were carried out were not fully specified, and it is difficult to make a direct conclusion on the charging speeds for both devices. The conclusions are therefore not definitive.
