Google Pixel 6 series smartphones to reportedly launch on October 28

Google has already unveiled its next-generation Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro flagship smartphones and has confirmed that the devices will get launched in the fall this year, without revealing the exact timeframe.

Recently, it was reported that the devices will get launched on 13th September, just a day before the Apple iPhone 13 series launch. Now, Jon Prosser refutes that and claims that the Google Pixel 6 lineup will launch on 28th October.

He also adds that both the upcoming smartphones — Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be available for pre-orders from 19th October and will start shipping on the day of its launch, which is set on 28th October.

It’s important to note that the launch date here refers to the date when the devices will start shipping and be available for purchase. It is not yet known when Google will host its event revealing more details about the Pixel 6 series, including pricing and availability.

Although the date for the Pixel 6 series launch event is not yet known, it’s likely that the device could be officially announced on the day company begins taking pre-orders. So, the date may be 19th October or somewhere around it. We will get to know more details pretty soon as the launch date nears.

So far, Google has revealed some key details about the smartphones even though the full specifications sheet hasn’t been shared. The Pixel 6 comes with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display offering a 90Hz refresh rate while the Pro model has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display offering a 120Hz refresh rate.

The standard model features a dual-camera setup on the back while the Pixel 6 Pro has a triple-camera setup — a wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 4x telephoto lens. The photography performance is expected to top the charts as the chipset is said to be focused on photo output and uses artificial intelligence along with machine learning.

The highlight of the Pixel 6 series remains its processor as the phones will come powered by Google’s own chipset — Tensor, which the company says is made especially for Pixel devices. Apart from on-device AI and ML capability, the chip is also claimed to have significant improvement in translation, captioning, and dictation. The chipset is likely to be an unreleased Samsung Exynos 9855 SoC.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Exynos version hits GeekBench as the S20 FE gets a new update

Samsung‘s pocket-friendly Galaxy S21 FE has been a long time coming but the company is yet to release a launch date for the much-anticipated device. There are speculations that the device will be launched on September 8. While we await official confirmation, a new detail has emerged about the Galaxy S21 FE.Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

A model believed to be the Galaxy S21 FE has appeared on GeekBench. This isn’t the first time the device will be making an appearance on GeekBench but what makes this spectacular is that the model is powered by an Exynos chipset. Specifically, the device which bears the model number SM-G990E is equipped with the Exynos 2100 flagship processor.

The Exynos version may likely be released in some markets. But that may cause some controversies considering that the chipset is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 888 which will also power some models of the S21 FE. The GeekBench score of 1,084 points and 3,316 points on the single and multi-core tests attests to this. We also recall how the Exynos 990 released last year performed way below the Snapdragon 865. Thankfully, the Exynos 2100 isn’t so far behind the Snapdragon 888.

In a related development, Samsung has started seeding the latest Android security patch for the month of September to the Galaxy S20 FE even before the start of September. The update ushers in the firmware version G781BXXU4CUH5 and has a 790MB size. Apart from the security patch, the update doesn’t bring any new features aside from improved system stability.

The update is already been pushed to some users in Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Slovenia, Nordic countries, Czech Republic, Poland, and the Baltic region. We expect Samsung to expand the update to more markets soon. You can manually check for the update by navigating to the phone’s Settings > Software update menu.

Pixel 6 series may have support for 23W wireless charging

Google has never been one to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to new features, especially those that consumers really want. Fast charging is the perfect example. There are a plethora of phones (including mid-range models) that charge at incredible speeds, with some going as high as 120W for wired charging and 67W for wireless charging. Google, on the other hand, has remained stuck on 18W for wired charging for both its flagships and mid-range phones and 12W for wireless charging! Now there is good news for the upcoming Pixel 6 series.

Pixel 6 series

The Pixel 6 series is shaping up to be the best Pixel phone from Google. With an unusual design that will turn heads and a custom chipset made in partnership with Samsung, there is a lot to look forward to. The folks at Android Police have found one more interesting detail that will get fans excited.

Google is expected to announce a new wireless charging stand alongside the Pixel 6 series. Ahead of the launch of the phones, the source reports that retailers have begun to input accessories for the devices. One such retailer is an American carrier and according to a supply chain source, one of the new accessories has the name “Google Pixel 23W WL Stand.”

New Pixel Stand 23W

Based on the name, it is presumed that the new Pixel stand will be able to output up to 23W which means one or both of the Pixel 6 phones will charge at this power rating. This is a significant jump in charging speed from the 12W of the Pixel 5 and the info checks out since an earlier report already revealed that the new charger will have a cooling fan. This is necessary since it will be charging at a higher rating which will generate heat.

At the moment, the new wireless charger, the Pixel 6, and the Pixel 6 Pro are yet to get listed on the database of the Wireless Power Consortium, so we do not have additional details.

Renders of the Mi 11T Pro have now surfaced and they give us our best look at the device yet.

The source of the renders is the same person that shared key specifications of the phone earlier a few weeks ago and he says they are based on the device itself which he has seen. The Mi 11T will be covered in glass on both sides though the back of the phone looks like it has a brushed metal back.

The Mi 11T Pro is shown to have three rear cameras, and they are all housed in the same camera island along with the LED flash and laser focus module. An inscription on the camera housing confirms that the primary rear camera is a 108MP camera.

Just like last year’s Mi 10T series, the Mi 11T series will also stick to a side-mounted fingerprint scanner even though the display is OLED this time and not LCD.

The Mi 11T Pro will also come with a 120Hz refresh rate which is lower than the 144Hz of the Mi 10T series. The screen will also have a centered punch hole for the front-facing camera. Other reported specifications are a Snapdragon 888 processor, a 5000mAh battery capacity, and support for 120W fast charging.

LineageOS 18.1 now available for POCO F2 Pro, F3, X3 Pro

The Android 11-based LineageOS 18.1 went official at the beginning of April. Since then, the project has added support for a number of devices. The latest addition brings builds for three popular POCO smartphones.

POCO handsets run MIUI like other Xiaomi group phones. The brand calls it MIUI for POCO. Not everyone likes the company’s software. Those users can try custom ROMs.

LineageOS is one of the most popular custom ROMs. The team released LineageOS 18.1 based on Android 11 a few months back. This software is now available for POCO F2 Pro, POCO F3, and POCO X3 Pro.

Power users of the above-listed handsets who enjoy fiddling with their smartphones can unlock their device’s bootloader and install the latest LineageOS 18.1 via custom recovery. It is worth noting that third-party software is not meant for everyone. Hence, proceed only if you know what you are doing.

That said, since POCO F2 Pro is a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro, LineageOS 18.1 can be also installed on Redmi K30 Pro as well as Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition. Similarly, Mi 11X and Redmi K40 also support the latest version of LineageOS as these phones are nothing but the POCO F3.

Talking about official software, all these POCO smartphones currently run MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11. They should receive MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition in the coming months, followed by MIUI.
