Apple iPhone 13 series expected to officially launch on September 14

Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 12 series smartphones a bit later than its usual timeline because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the Cupertino-based technology giant is expected to stick to its schedule for the iPhone 13 series.

While the company has not yet announced the launch date for the next generation of the Apple iPhone series, rumors indicate that the devices could be launched in the third week of September. But a new report now claims that Apple is set to launch the iPhone 13 series smartphones on 14th September.

If that is indeed true, then the Tim Cook-led company could soon announce its launch event, probably in the next few days. Along with the next-generation iPhone, the company will also be launching the Apple Watch Series 7 models at the same event.

The report further adds that after getting announced on 14th September, the smartphone will be available for purchase from 24th September. This time, Apple will be selling four models at the same time — iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max.

A recent report claimed that Apple is likely to increase the price of the upcoming iPhone 13 series models due to the price hike in components. Recently, TSMC confirmed that it will be increasing its pricing by up to 20 percent. However, the majority of the reports indicate that the pricing of the iPhone 13 models is likely to be the same as the iPhone 12 models.

Foxconn, one of the largest suppliers and contract manufacturers for Apple, has reportedly started fast-track recruitment for 200,000 members and is aiming to fill the vacancy by the end of September 2021. Notably, the large facility can house as many as 350,000 assembly line workers and produce up to 500,000 smartphones a day.

The Apple iPhone 13 lineup is expected to come with a slightly smaller notch and a 120Hz refresh rate in the Pro variants. It is also being reiterated that the company will also be offering a 1TB internal storage model this time.

It is also claimed to have support for mmWave 5G for countries outside of the United States. The phones are said to come with space-saving internal circuitry, which should allow the company to offer a larger battery inside the device.

The new iPhones will come with support for 25W fast charging technology, a slight upgrade from the current 22W charging. It is also expected to come with a LiDAR scanner. The upcoming flagship smartphone series from Apple will come with notable hardware upgrades. It points out to a faster and more power-efficient A15 Bionic chipset manufactured using TSMC’s 5nm+ process.

Apple iPhone 14 may not be powered by 3nm chipset due to TSMC’s production issues

Apple is gearing up to launch its next-generation iPhone 13 series smartphones next month but even before the official launch takes place, details related to the next year’s iPhone 14 series have been making rounds.

It is speculated that the Apple iPhone 14 lineup could come powered by the 3nm chipset manufactured by TSMC. However, the latest report indicates that may not be the case as the Taiwan-based manufacturer is facing delays.

The report claims that TSMC has confirmed that its 3nm process, known as N3, has been delayed for mass-production by about 3-4 months. This means that the iPhone 14 lineup will miss the chipset (possibly named Apple A16 Bionic) manufactured using the 3nm process and instead will pack a processor made using the N4 process.

Previously, it was reported that Apple has already placed orders for the 4nm chip with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and is set to go into production in the fourth quarter of this year.

Not only that, the Cupertino-based tech giant has already booked the majority of TSMC’s capacity for the production of 3nm chips over chip giant Intel. The 3nm chips are likely to go into production in the second half of next year and were expected to be powering the next-generation iPhone 14 series phones.

Similarly, Samsung is also reportedly facing production issues related to the 3nm chip and thus, its flagship smartphones getting launched next year could also come packed with the 4nm chipset and same will be the fate of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 898 given that the company is reliant on TSMC and Samsung for manufacturing.

Apple is all set to launch the iPhone 13 series smartphones in the market, possibly in the third week of September but the company has not yet revealed the launch date. All four models in the lineup — iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max are expected to come powered by the Apple A15 Bionic chipset manufactured using 5nm+ process by TSMC.

Realme Pad’s Geekbench listing spotted, reveals chipset and RAM

Earlier this month, Indian tech Youtuber Sahil Karoul claimed that Realme will be announcing the Realme Pad on Sept. 9. Realme fans speculated that the tablet could be coming with a Snapdragon 8-series or 7-series. However, it was revealed by Karoul on Saturday that the tablet will be driven by the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset. Now, the Realme tablet has been spotted at the Geekbench benchmarking site (via). The listing reveals that the tablet will indeed feature the Helio chip.

The upcoming Realme Pad has been spotted with RMP2102 model number at a couple of certification sites such as Singapore’s IMDA, Europe’s EEC, India’s BIS, and Thailand’s NBTC. Now, the same device has appeared at the Geekbench benchmarking site. The listing reveals that it is powered by MediaTek’s MT6769V/CU octa-core chip, which includes six CPU cores working at 1.80GHz and two CPU cores clocking at 2.0GHz. These clues are enough to confirm that the Realme Pad will feature the Helio G80.

Teardown reveals why the new Sony PlayStation 5 console weighs less

Sony recently unveiled a new PlayStation 5 model that is significantly lighter than its predecessor. There were speculations then that the change in weight could have been as a result of the changes made in the new console which does not have a disc input. Other reasons were also adduced including the possibility of a lighter heat dissipation mechanism.

A teardown of the new PS5, which is already on sale in the US, Japan, and Australia, has all but confirmed that the major reason for the massive change in the console’s net weight was due to a smaller and probably more efficient heat sink inside the console.

PS5
The New PS5 heat sink is at the right

The sleek Sony PlayStation 5 console teardown video on YouTube by Austin Evans, shows a decoupling of the console to reveal a smaller heat sink that provides efficient cooling when the PS5 is in operation. The reason for the much smaller heat sink is still unclear, although Evans claimed that the particular PS5 unit used became very hot while in use, although he concedes that his claim was not definitive yet on the heat performance of the new PlayStation 5. The heat sink is a pivotal component of the PS5, as Sony uses it to offer substantial cooling to the device for optimal performance.

The digital version of the PlayStation 5, as earlier mentioned, has no disc input, as it relies only on digital games that come with the device or could be purchased from the PlayStation Store. It offers sufficient internal memory and other features that could appeal to some segment of the gaming populace. The non-digital PS5 models are still sporting heavier heat sinks and it is unclear whether Sony may tweak the heat dissipation mechanisms of these models as well.

DJI Mavic 3 leak gives us a look at the design, key specs in tow

A new leak has illuminated some grey areas in the yet-to-be-released DJI Mavic 3 (or possibly Mavic Pro 3) drone. There has been a buildup of expectations for the latest drone that may come from DJI on its design, looks, and features. Much was not known previously of the gadget, but thanks to a new leak, we can say a few more stuff about the machine.DJI Mavic 3

The leak was credited to Brazilian sources and provided an illustration of the next-generation DJI Mavic 3 drone, with several other specs. The drone could feature a new collision avoidance system that is meant to enhance its overall maneuverability. It will also have more powerful adaptive cameras and zoom systems. The front and rear sensors have been positioned to enhance effectiveness, while the side sensors have all been removed. The machine has 1TB of memory, it is capable of being airborne for up to 40 minutes, and could come with up to 6000mAh battery.DJI Mavic 3

The drone’s gimbal now has an integrated automatic look, although we are not certain whether the acrylic protector will be retained. Importantly too, a new smart controller will come with the drone to enhance its operations. It is believed that the gimbal will feature a new automatic locking mechanism that is activated when the drone is turned off, which is a clear departure from the current scenario requiring a manual adjustment.

DJI Mavic 3

The illustrations released also show a very sleek machine which could be significantly different from its predecessor the DJI Mavic 2, released back in 2018. There could be at least two versions of the new drone, possibly a base version (the DJI Mavic 3) and a higher version, the Mavic 3 Pro, possibly.DJI Mavic 3

While no official remark has been received by DJI at this time, the tipster also projects that the DJI Mavic 3 series will be released in October. There were no indications of the possible pricing details of the drone yet.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 survives the durability test your phone most likely won’t go through IRL

The Galaxy Z Fold3 was announced earlier this month as the third-generation foldable phone from Samsung. The manufacturer has touted significant improvements in the build quality of the device such as a stronger aluminum frame, IPX8 water-resistance rating, Gorilla Glass Victus, and a display that it claims is 80% more durable than the last generation.

To find out if these claims are true, popular YouTuber, Zack Nelson, of the YouTube channel, JerryRigEverything, put the Galaxy Z Fold3 through his famous durability test.

The result of the over 11-minute long video is that Samsung’s new foldable is actually better in terms of its build quality.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3’s cover display and rear panel, which are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, scratch at level 6 on the Mohs’ scale of hardness. However, the inner display that now houses an under-display camera, is still pretty soft as it scratches at a level 2. Your fingernails will even leave noticeable marks on the surface if you apply enough pressure. However, you don’t have to worry about the S Pen Fold Edition leaving permanent marks on the screen even if applying pressure when writing.

One of the upgrades Samsung touts is the new Armor aluminum frame. While the paint on the metal does come off when scratched with a knife, the strength of the frame is best tested when dropped which didn’t happen in the video although

The Galaxy Z Fold3 has an IPX8 rating which means while it will survive immersion in water, it isn’t dustproof. If you are wondering how this is possible, it is reported that what Samsung did is to give the phone’s internal sockets with an oleophobic coating that keeps water out rather than with the use of rubber seals. Zack does put the phone through a dust test and the Galaxy Z Fold3 does a good job in not getting dust into the hinges.

Where the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 impresses just like its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold2, is in the bend test. The device doesn’t bend or break when bent in the folded state. Its inner display also survives the bend test when in the unfolded state.

Samsung has sure made an impressive device and it is impressive to see there is a significant difference when compared to the first foldable it released in 2019.

Honor X20 Max is coming with a 7-inch screen, may also have a Dimensity 1100 chip

Last year’s Honor X10 Max 5G was one of the largest smartphones Honor announced. The phone launched with a massive 7.09-inch display and a Dimensity 800 5G processor. A new report has revealed that a successor called the Honor X20 Max is coming soon and it will also have a large screen.

Honor X10 Max
Honor X10 Max

According to Weibo account @菊厂影业Fans, the Honor X20 Max is coming soon, and unconfirmed reports say that it will have a 7.2-inch display, a 6000mAh battery, and a Dimensity 1100 processor. All of these are upgrades (if you consider a bigger display as an upgrade too) when compared to the Honor X10 Max whose display is smaller and also packs a smaller 5000mAh battery.

Apart from having a bigger display, we want to believe the Honor X20 Max will pack a similar RGBW display as its predecessor. Unlike standard RGB panels, an RGBW panel is said to have a lower power consumption. We also hope Honor gives it a high refresh rate this time around.

Other areas we expect to see upgrades include the cameras, the speakers, and the fast charging technology. The Honor X10 Max launched with support for 22.5W fast charging. Since the successor will be coming with a bigger battery capacity, it is only fair that the charging speed gets a boost too.

The arrival of the Honor X20 Max will complete the Honor X20 trio which already includes the Honor X20 SE and the Honor X20.

The new info is from the Indian YouTuber, Sahil Karoul. Earlier today, he tweeted that the Realme Pad will have a MediaTek Helio processor but didn’t reveal which chipset it is. He has now let the cat out of the bag and disclosed that the processor inside the tablet is the Helio G80 processor.

The news may come as a disappointment to those who expect the Realme Pad to have a flagship chipset. The Helio G80 which launched last year is a mid-range one that can’t measure up to the more powerful processors inside competitor tablets such as the Mi Pad 5 series which is available in Snapdragon 860 and Snapdragon 870 processors. However, with a mid-range chipset, the Realme Pad should be significantly cheaper than those from competitors.

Other details of the Realme Pad already revealed include having a 10.4-inch AMOLED screen, quad speakers, 8MP cameras on each side, and support for a stylus that can be stored inside the tablet. It has also been reported that it will have a 7100mAh battery capacity.

A leak from the same source says the Realme Pad will be launched on September 9.

Apple to replace defective earpiece speakers on affected iPhone 12 & iPhone 12 Pro for free

Apple has announced a replacement program for some iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro smartphones with faulty earpiece speakers. The faulty speakers in the two models have been traced to units produced between October 2020 and April 2021. Users have often reported that they are unable to get audio from their earpieces when making calls with their phones.

In an official statement, Apple says that it has already begun changing the faulty speakers for the two models, and encourages owners of such devices to use any of the available channels to get their devices fixed at no extra cost. The US tech powerhouse says that it has determined that only a small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro units may experience audio issues due to possible component failure on the receiver module of their devices. If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the receiver during a call, you could possibly be among the few that have the stated problem, and your device could be eligible for the repair.

Users are advised to back up their phone data through any means, so as to be protected from a potential loss of such data. It is not clear how long the free speaker replacement program will last.

Apple did not put any figure as per the prevalence of faulty speaker modules. Apple owners who fall into the category, are encouraged to visit any of the Apple or Apple Authorized Service Providers or via the Apple Support Centre. The service is free and will cover only devices whose screens are yet to be damaged. Any unit that comes in with a faulty screen will have to resolve the screen issue before it will be repaired.

Xiaomi is working on a phone with a photochromic / electrochromic back

Following the launch of the OPPO Reno6 Pro+ Detective Conan Edition, Xiaomi may be the next in line to launch a phone with an electrochromic back panel according to info from China.

Xiaomi is not one to miss out on a trend, so the news of it developing a phone with an electrochromic back isn’t all too surprising. The source of the info is the Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, and according to a rough translation of a Weibo post made earlier today, Xiaomi is testing a device with a low-power photochromic/electrochromic back panel.

Xiaomi Electrochromic Phone

It remains to be seen which of the two technologies Xiaomi adopts. The Vivo S10 has a photochromic back which changes from orange to blue when under direct sunlight. The color-changing process happens as a result of ultraviolet rays from the sun.

On the other hand, the OPPO Reno6 Pro+ Detective Conan Edition which has an electrochromic back can switch from silver to red and back. The color change occurs when voltage is passed through the glass.

We do not know if Xiaomi plans to launch this phone with a photochromic/electrochromic back panel or if it will just be a concept phone. It may also not use glass but plastic as the substrate can also be polycarbonate.

Microsoft will now allow Windows 11 to be installed on unsupported CPUs using ISO

Software giant Microsoft has announced that users of older PCs running on a lower Windows operating system can now manually upgrade their PC’s operating system to Windows 11 by downloading the ISO file. Microsoft will no longer block users from updating their OS, although restrictions still remain when this is done via the regular Windows update. The announcement was made Friday via a blogpost, and it is bound to receive applause from a wide segment of users of older Windows OS.

Source: Blue Edge

Although the recommended hardware requirements for the installation of Windows 11 remain, once you met the basic installation requirements, you can ultimately upgrade your OS to Windows 11 even though your older CPU did not pass the upgrade test. You can proceed to download the ISO file of Windows 11 and follow the prompts to install it manually. While the recently released hardware requirements for Windows 11 show that it requires an Intel 8th generation CPU or newer, the company provides the option of users intending to install the OS on older CPUs, of course, at their own risk. Aside from the Intel 8th –gen CPU, the basic requirements for the manual upgrade is a 64-bit 1GHz processor having two or more cores, 4 GB of RAM, and 64GB of available storage.

Microsoft has expanded the lineup of processors that could use the new Windows 11 OS including the Intel Core-X series, Xeon W-series, together with Intel Core 7820HQ. These CPUs will now be officially supported for Windows 11 upgrades. There are still several processors that still lack support for Windows 11. In addition, it is unlikely that upgrades and updates will be supported for devices in which Windows 11 was manually installed.

So, while millions of devices could potentially benefit from the manual upgrade opportunity, there are still others that may not meet the minimum processor and RAM requirement, while only a few will possibly go the whole hog to download and install the upgrade. Microsoft also says that there is a high possibility of system crashes.

Redmi K20 is the last K series phone to get MIUI 12.5 update

The Redmi K20 launched as Xiaomi’s most affordable smartphone with a pop-up camera. It has been more than two years since its release. The device has even received two MIUI as well as two Android updates during this period. Now, Xiaomi has finally started rolling out MIUI 12.5 update for this handset.

Xiaomi has been seeding out MIUI 12.5 update for eligible smartphones worldwide since earlier this year. The company has almost finished the rollout in China as it has now started rolling out MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition.

But it appears that the Redmi K20 was one of the few devices and the only K series phone to be left out. Hence, it is receiving the MIUI 12.5 update only now. The latest system update for the phone is currently live in China with build number V12.5.1.0.RFJCNXM.

Like any other OTA software update, the MIUI 12.5 update for the Redmi K20 is also being seeded out in batches. Hence, it is only available for a select few users at the moment.

Anyway, all users in China as well as other markets should get the update in the coming days. In most international markets, the Redmi K20 is known as Mi 9T. Hence, the same system update will also make its way to that device.

Having said that, the Redmi K20 might also receive MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition, followed by MIUI 13, which should be its last major software update.
