OnePlus 8T gets its second price cut in India, now cheaper than OnePlus 9R

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 8T in India in October 2020. It was the brand’s cheapest flagship smartphone for the second half of the last year. Over six months after its release, the handset receives its second price cut in the country.

OnePlus 8T comes in two storage configurations – 8GB + 128GB and 12 + 256GB. These two variants debuted at ₹42,999 and ₹45,999 respectively.

Ahead of the OnePlus 9 series launch, the phone got its first price drop. The price of the device was decreased by ₹3,000. Hence, they had been selling for ₹39,999 and ₹42,999 for the past few weeks.

Now, as the brand is about to announce the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, it has once again cut the price of the OnePlus 8T by ₹1,000. As a result, the smartphone is now retailing for ₹38,999 and ₹41,999.

The new price of the OnePlus 8T finally makes it cheaper than the recently introduced OnePlus 9R, which costs ₹39,999 and ₹43,999 respectively. For those unaware, the latter phone is basically the former device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 instead of Snapdragon 865.

Since both these handsets released with Android 11, they have similar software support, however, the newer one may receive major updates first. So the buying decision depends on which design and color the customer prefers.

realme could soon launch a tablet called ‘realme Pad’

Chinese tech brand realme is currently the fastest-growing smartphone brand. Piggybacking on the success of its phone business, the company has been swiftly entering new product categories every other quarter. According to a new tweet by one of the firm’s executives, realme may soon launch a tablet.

Realme Logo Featured

Last month, realme sent out a survey for laptop preferences. The questionnaire hinted that the brand’s first laptop could release in Q3 2021. Earlier today, the company’s Indian/European CEO even officially teased a laptop.

At around the same time, the CMO of realme India and Europe also hinted at the launch of a tablet. In one of his latest tweets, the executive asks his followers whether the name ‘realme Pad’ sounds good. In our opinion, realme should go with a different name.

Unfortunately, the upcoming realme tablet is a mystery product since we are hearing it for the very first time. Above all, none of realme’s sister brands (OPPO, OnePlus) sell tablets. Hence, it is difficult to guess specifications.

We are not sure how it will look and what software it will run. It will probably run Android, however, it would be great if realme ships the product with Chrome OS.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on realme entering laptop and tablet categories? Do let us know in the comment section below.

Midea has just launched a new home appliance in China. It is a new refrigerator, which is the world’s first to feature HarmonyOS from Huawei. The device is also a smart product and offers various features to the user.

Huawei

Since it is a smart home product, the refrigerator offers various features. This includes the touch based interactions, which can inform the users regarding the freshness of the ingredients inside the refrigerator at any given moment. The Chinese brand also added that it will be offering a robust after sales service experience as well. Realme’s first-ever laptop teased by the company’s executive; could launch soon

Realme was started as a sub-brand of OPPO for budget smartphones in the Indian market but has now become an independent brand. It is no longer limited to smartphones and has expanded its presence to several other categories.

The company keeps launching new products every now and then. Now, the Chinese brand is gearing up to enter a new product category with the launch of its first-ever laptop which has now been officially teased by Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India and Europe.

Realme Laptop (MeowBook) Teaser

The teaser image shows that the laptop from Realme will have a metal build and silver color that seems too similar to the MacBook lineup from Apple. Apart from that, nothing more has been revealed by the company so far. Along with the teaser, Madhav Sheth has shared a message in binary code, which reads out the phrase “Hello World!”

A couple of months ago, it was revealed that Realme could soon be launching several new products in the market, including a MeowBook laptop, Meow AI speaker, and Meow VR glasses. This means that the upcoming laptop, which has been teased by the company, could be named MeowBook.

It remains to be seen if the laptops are powered by Intel or AMD chips. We are expecting multiple RAM and storage configurations for the upcoming device. Given that none of Realme’s parent or sister companies make laptops, it’s most likely that the brand will be relying on ODMs. One thing is for sure that the notebook will run Windows 10 operating system out-of-the-box.

Earlier this year, reports indicated that the Realme laptop could be launched in June this year and in line with that, the teaser of the laptop has now been unveiled by the company. Going by this, the official launch could be just a few days or weeks away.

Realme seems to be following the strategy of Xiaomi and Redmi which have entered almost all categories of consumer electronics. Once launched, the Realme laptop will compete against the likes of Mi Notebook and RedmiBook with competitive pricing.

Huawei App Market HarmonyOS Zone

With HarmonyOS Zone in the Huawei App Marketplace, it becomes easier for the users of the operating system to find and install compatible apps. Users can search for “HarmonyOS” or “HongMeng” in the App Marketplace to find the dedicated zone. The apps, which are made for HarmonyOS are tagged with “HMOS” in the corner of the icon.

The Chinese giant is working hard to add new features to the in-house operating system and make it easier for third-party developers to make apps for the platform. At the time of unveiling this new OS, Huawei said that it plans to update 100 devices and may take until H1 2022 to complete the process.

The company has a plan to have more than 300 million devices running the HarmonyOS (or HongMeng OS as it is called in China) by the end of this year. It will be interesting to see if Huawei manages to establish its new software as an alternative to Android.

Huawei has donated all of the core structures of HarmonyOS to the “Open Atom Open Source Foundation.” This would enable interested manufacturers to get the HarmonyOS system codes and develop products as per their requirements. At the moment, there are more than 500,000 developers that are working with HarmonyOS and the company is expecting more to join soon.

Xiaomi to reorganize team for chip manufacturing as it eyes re-entry in the market

Xiaomi wanted to join the league of Samsung, Apple, and Huawei and become one of the few smartphone manufacturers to design its own chips. In line with that, the Chinese company had launched the Surge S1 chip in 2017 and that is the only smartphone processor launched by the firm so far.

The company recently launched the Surge C1 chip for image signal processing that is used in Mi MIX Fold. While it was believed that Xiaomi has given up on chip manufacturing, it turns out that that is not the case.

Xiaomi Logo

As per the latest report, Xiaomi is recruiting new people as it eyes reorganization of the team for the chip production to re-enter the market. Apart from that, it has also started the process of license negotiations with IP providers.

A person familiar with the matter says that while Xiaomi’s aim is to make chips for mobile phones, the next chip getting launched by the company may not be related to phones as it may start with a peripheral chip.

Xiaomi had established a wholly-owned subsidiary named Beijing Songguo Electronics in 2014 to enter the chip manufacturing industry and after three years, the company launched its first-ever smartphone chip — Surge S1.

After the launch of Surge S1 in 2017, nothing was heard from this department for a long time until the company launched the Surge C1 image signal processing chip this year. However, Lei Jun, Founder and CEO of Xiaomi recently said that despite setbacks, the development of chips will continue.

The tweet says customers deserve a fantastic camera, and enthusiasts should stay tuned for June 10, 2021, for the launch of the new sensor. It could be a marginally improved 50MP sensor that could replace the current 48MP version. Earlier this year, there were reports that Samsung will unveil the ISOCELL GN1s and GN3 in H2 2021. One of these two or both could be the expected sensors.

Samsung’s ISOCELL division produces sensors both for Samsung devices and for other smartphone manufacturers. The ISOCELL division offers various sensors for different cameras, from the premium and high-end sensors to the mid-range segment.

The Korean tech giant has not made any further announcement on the capabilities of the new camera sensor and the devices that it will debut. Much of the buzz around the sensor remains informed speculations at this time. However, as would be expected, more information on the new ISOCELL sensor will be available on June 10.
