These two set-top boxes are powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor and run Android TV just like the above-mentioned product. They also support AV1 codec and come with CAS/DRM digital encryption system to protect operators’ content copyrights.

Recently, the Amzfit GTR and Amazfit GTS smartwatches from the company received an update, enabling them to be used as car keys for Xiaopeng P7/Xpeng P7, touted as the Chinese rival to the Tesla Model 3. So, the upcoming product could have the same feature, with support for cars from Tesla.

Huami CEO Huang Wang has been teasing about this launch event on Weibo and from the teasers, it seems that the company could be launching an upgraded variant of the Amazift GTR smartwatch. To know for sure, we will have to wait for a few more hours for the official announcement from the company.

Last month, an FCC filing revealed that Tesla Motors is working on the development of a new smartwatch with Xplora Technologies, which is a Norwegian company that sells smartwatches for kids.

Pinduoduo opens Apple iPhone 12 appointment, claims sale from September 16

Apple has already confirmed that the company will be holding a launch event on 15th September. At the event, the company is not expected to launch the next-generation iPhone 12 models and instead new Apple Watch and iPad are expected.

However, a report from China reveals that Pinduoduo hints at the early arrival of next-gen Apple smartphones. The company has opened appointments for the Apple iPhone 12 in China and claims that the sale will start from 16th September.

Pinduoduo iPhone 12 Appointment

Do note that we couldn’t verify that this claim by Pinduoduo is correct, so take it with a pinch of salt. Also, it’s highly unlikely that the new iPhone 12 models go official later this week in China.

Apple has already confirmed that the iPhone 12 models launching this year will be “available a few weeks later.” There are several reports which claim that the new iPhones will go on sale from October.

Previous reports hint that pre-booking will start around mid-October and shipments of the base model beginning a week after that. But not all the models will go on sale together. As per the report, the iPhone 12 will be available for purchase in October itself, while other models in the lineup, including the iPhone 12 Pro, will go on sale in November.

As per the reports, the company will be launching the Apple Watch Series 6, a new iPad, new Apple TV, smaller HomePod, AirTags, and over-ear headphones at its launch event on 15th September. To know if anything else is coming, we’ll have to wait for the official launch event to take place.

Apple iPhone 12 Pro alleged hands on video reveals rear panel with LiDAR sensor

An alleged hands on video for the Apple iPhone 12 Pro has recently surfaced online. The video showcases the rear panel of the device which also reveals the LiDAR sensor placement on the 6.1 inch model.

Apple

According to a 9to5Mac report, a YouTuber named EverythingApplePro showcased an alleged rear panel of the iPhone 12 Pro. In the video, it can be observed that the upcoming flagship features a finish similar to the iPhone 11 Pro, with steel edges and matte glass. This is in line with all the recent rumors. On the rear, triple camera setup can be observed, with an arrangement similar to the camera module of the previous generation.

Notably, this camera module houses the ultra wide angle lens, which is also likely related to the LiDAR scanner. For those unaware, the iPhone 12 will reportedly feature a LiDAR scanner. However, it was said to only arrive in the 6.7 inch model. But now, the hands on video reveals that both the 6.1 inch and 6.7 inch iPhone 12 Pro models would ship with the new sensor.

Additional changes that have been observed in the video include a readjusted SIM tray and a new cutout on the right side of the device, which is likely for the 5G antenna. 9to5Mac also stated that a previous report had claimed that two models of the new iPhone will feature the LiDAR scanner, which is probably the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt, and stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

2,000 OnePlus Buds seized by US Customs as “counterfeit AirPods”

On 31st August, US Borders and Custom Protection announced that it had seized around 2,000 counterfeit Apple AirPods sent to New York’s JFK Airport from Hong Kong, worth about $398,00.

Well, it turns out that the department messed up, and the product which they claimed as counterfeit AirPods is actually OnePlus Buds and the total shipment is worth about $158,000 based on 2,000 units.

The photo of the product and the retail box shared by the US Borders and Custom Protection also reveals that the product in question is actually OnePlus Buds — the true-wireless earphones from China-based OnePlus.

Troy Miller, Director of CBP’s New York Field Operations, said in a press release: “The interception of these counterfeit earbuds is a direct reflection of the vigilance and commitment to mission success by our CBP Officers daily.”

EDITOR’S PICK: Samsung Galaxy S20 FE will launch on September 23

One thing is quite clear from the images that what they have seized is OnePlus Buds, which is not a knock-off of Apple AirPods. The form factor is being used by several companies for the TWS earphones and OnePlus is among them. The OnePlus Buds has clear branding and there’s no way to confuse them as a knock-off of Apple AirPods given that there’s no Apple branding or trying to pass them off as AirPods.

OnePlus Buds

The OnePlus Buds come with a 13.4mm dynamic driver and has support for Dolby Atmos for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 8 series. It also has support for Dirac Audio Tuner for the newly launched OnePlus Nord smartphone.

It has environmental noise cancellation which triggers during phone calls. The device also has IPX4 ratings, making it water-resistant. Connecting the earphones with OnePlus smartphones enables additional touch controls, as well as a low-latency mode named Fnatic Mode for gaming.

Realme Watch S Pro Certificate

Given that they are getting certified, the launch event shouldn’t be far away. Also, we expect more details regarding the wearable devices to soon surface online.

Recently, the Realme Watch S Pro with model number RMA186 was spotted on FCC, revealing more details. It revealed that the device will come with a round dial that measures 1.39-inches.

Entire specs of Xiaomi Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro leak

Xiaomi is still not done with new devices in its Mi 10 series. After launching the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro in February, the company unveiled Mi 10 Lite exclusively for global markets. Then, came Mi 10 Youth and Mi 10 Ultra for the Chinese market. Now, the brand is all set to bring two more handsets in the series namely Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro for international markets. These two phones have leaked multiple times in the past few weeks in the form of renders. Now, the entire specs of these handsets leak as well.

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

A few days back, the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro were spotted listed on Amazon. These listings did not give away the complete specs but exposed their entire design, thanks to their renders. A day later, a blog going by the name of MuyComputer leaked out the full spec sheet of both these handsets.

According to the blog, the upcoming Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. The standard variant will come with 6GB RAM compared to 8GB RAM in the Pro. As for storage, they are said to arrive with 128GB/256GB internal storage. Previous reports suggested them to sport OLED panels but this leak says them to feature 6.67-inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) LCD panels with 144Hz refresh rate.

As a result of non-OLED displays, these handsets will come equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Further, surprisingly, they may arrive with a useful set of rear cameras (no macro and depth sensors) unlike the standard Mi 10.

Xiaomi Mi 10 T Pro

The blog reveals the Mi 10T Pro to feature a triple camera setup consisting of a 108MP primary sensor paired with a 20MP sensor with ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP sensor with telephoto lens. On the front, the display’s top left-aligned punch-hole will house another 20MP sensor for selfies and video calls. On the other hand, the regular Mi 10T is also said to feature exact same setup but a 64MP primary sensor instead of 108MP sensor

In the software department, the forthcoming Xiaomi smartphones are expected to run MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out of the box. Last but not least, they will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery.

That said, Xiaomi is yet to announce the launch date of the Mi 10T series. The sub-€300 5G smartphone, which the company teased earlier this month may also debut alongside these phones.

Huawei Mate 40 series may not go on sale until next year

The Mate 40 series is highly anticipated but Huawei’s flagship phone may arrive later than expected. According to a tweet from a reliable source, the upcoming Huawei flagships may not get into buyers’ hands until next year.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

The info comes from Evan Blass (@evleaks) who revealed the info in a tweet earlier today. Does that mean that the phone will not launch this year? No. Evan clarified in a reply that he’s referring to the retail release which is when you can actually buy one. So the launch should still happen this year.

It is also important to note that the device may launch and go on sale this year in China but not in other markets. Evan didn’t specify in his tweet but we are leaning towards a global release for next year while those in China get it this year.

Last week, it was reported that Huawei cut component orders for the Mate 40 series by 30%. Apparently, the company is expecting sales will be lower this year and has decided to take precautions.

The Mate 40 series will not come with Google Mobile Services but Huawei Mobile Services as a result of the US ban. The Mate 40 series will be powered by the Kirin 9000 processor, have curved displays, and rear cameras in a cookie-shaped housing.

Realme Narzo 20 series launch date leaked; invite includes treats

The Narzo 20 series may arrive pretty soon. Realme already confirmed that the phones are on the way. Now a leak has revealed the launch date and the invite for the launch has also surfaced on the web.

According to a tweet by Himanshu (@byhimanshu), who is the same source that revealed the color variants and configurations of the upcoming phones, Realme will announce the launch date for the Narzo 20 series tomorrow. However, we do not have to wait until then as he disclosed that the launch date is September 21.

Under the tweet, a reply included a photo of the invite that Realme will be sending out. The image shows a blue box with the word “Narzo” written boldly at the top. Inside the box is the SUP Handheld Retro Game Console. There is also an energy bar snack in the box and at the bottom is a smaller box that has a battery indicator.

We believe the latter is a teaser that hints at the series sporting big batteries. The Realme Narzo 10 and Narzo 10A both have a 5000mAh battery capacity. Will Realme be increasing the battery capacity to match that of the newly launched Galaxy M51 which has a 7000mAh battery? Maybe, maybe not.

If you look at the image, it shows 7 battery bars. Could that be a hint at one or all members of the Narzo 20 series having a 7000mAh battery too?

The Narzo 20 series will include the Narzo 20A, Narzo 20, and the Narzo 20 Pro.

Huawei’s “Powered by HarmonyOS” logo leaked

At the just-concluded Huawei Developer Conference 2020, Huawei announced HarmonyOS 2.0, a new version of its self-developed operating system which will power a variety of devices. Now, an image showing a logo Huawei plans to use for devices powered by its operating system has leaked.

Powered By HarmonyOS logo

The image which was posted on Weibo by the user that goes by @勇气数码君 is of the “Powered by HarmonyOS” logo which should appear on devices (and services) powered by the operating system. It is similar to the “Powered by Android” logo you see when you boot up an Android smartphone.

The logo shows that HarmonyOS will power a variety of products including watches, cars, earphones, laptops, smart speakers, smart TVs, and smartphones. These devices will in turn control other Huawei smart home products. We expect the image should appear when booting up a device and as well as on their retail boxes.

Huawei already has some products running the new operating system. Last year, it announced the Huawei Vision, a smart TV with a 4K Quantum Dot display. The tech giant has also revealed it will announce a HarmonyOS-powered TV on September 19 that will be available globally.

Starting next year, phones powered by Harmony-OS will be available for purchase in the market and Huawei says it is already working with partner companies such as Midea to launch smart home devices that will work with the OS.

OnePlus 8T gets certified by BIS; reported to have a Snapdragon 865 SoC

The OnePlus 8T’s launch is inching closer. The upcoming flagship has now been certified by India’s Bureau of Standards. Some key specification details have also surfaced.

OnePlus 8T

The BIS page revealed the OnePlus 8T has model number KB2001. As we already know, the phone is codenamed “Kebab”, so the model number checks out. This is also the same model number of a OnePlus phone that was spotted on Geekbench back in July.

The Geekbench result revealed the OnePlus 8T has 8GB of RAM though there should be other RAM variants too. It also runs Android 11 as expected. However, it turns out that it is powered by the Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform and not the Snapdragon 865 Plus as seen in the tweet posted by Abhishek Yadav.

The OnePlus 8T is expected to have a flat AMOLED display with a punch hole at the top left corner for the selfie camera. The phone should bring improvements in the camera department compared to its predecessor, a faster wired charging technology, and hopefully, supports wireless charging too like the OnePlus 8 Pro.

Going by the launch of the OnePlus 7T, the OnePlus 8T should arrive by the end of September.

Poll of The Week: Will you buy a foldable phone with mid-range specs for $1000?

Foldable phones are still out of the reach of most people, no thanks to their high price tags. The recently announced Moto Razr 5G launched for $1400, the Galaxy Z Flip is now $1299, and the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 is $1999. Only a handful of folks can afford to pay the aforementioned prices for a phone.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 featured

There are rumors that Samsung is working on an affordable Galaxy Z Fold which has been unofficially dubbed the Galaxy (Z) Fold Lite. We do not know how significantly the specs will be toned down compared to its existing models or what corners Samsung will cut to keep the price tag low. Nevertheless, we have decided to create a poll to see if folks will be willing to purchase a foldable phone with mid-range specs.

Yes, we know the Moto Razr 2019 and Moto Razr 5G both qualify as mid-range foldable devices but we are looking at a form factor closer to that of the Galaxy Z Fold and specs that are further toned down to make them more affordable.

So the full question is this – Will you buy a foldable phone with the following mid-range specs for $1000?

  • Plastic/Glasstic Body
  • LCD outer display
  • Pixel 4a-level cameras (one on each side)
  • Snapdragon 730G/Snapdragon 732G
  • No wireless charging
  • 4500+mAh battery
