The Apple AirPods are still out of stock on Amazon at the time of publication. Although, you can buy a pair at Black Friday prices, and Amazon will start shipping as soon as the product is back in stock.

Analysts believe that the AirPods are headed towards mass-market domination, which could soon result in quarterly revenue over $4 billion during the holiday season. A benchmark last created by Apple at the peak of the iPod revolution back in 2007. Industry analyst Asymco recently published a report on Apple’s quarterly revenue from the Home, Wearables and Others category. While the Apple Watch surpassed the $4 billion mark in collected revenue back in Q4 2018, this is a first for the AirPods.

AirPods Pro featured

Asymco states that while it is difficult to calculate the exact revenue of every product in the Home and Wearables category since Apple does not reveal the official numbers. Estimating the revenue generated by the Apple Watch and subtracting it from the total revenue, gives an approximation for the AirPods. Based on those figures it is possible for the AirPods to overtake peak iPod sales. Asymco further believes that Apple will witness 50% YoY growth for wearables. The Cupertino-based tech giants have already begun increasing its AIrPods Pro production capacity, keeping the increasing demand in mind.

5G networking is one of the most impactful advancements in technology in recent times. The network has become a hallmark for developed nations and a crucial feature in the smartphone industry. It is expected that 2020 and 2021 will see the arrival of 5G networking in the mainstream market with a complete integration occurring soon after. Many smartphone OEMs that had yet to fully utilize the early opportunity are now set to make an entrance in the mainstream market again.

According to the senior executive, ZTE will launch various 5G smartphones in 2020 which will include smartphones priced under 2000 Yuan and 3000 Yuan (roughly 286 to 429 USD). Apple iPhone sales plummet by 35% in China

Apple Inc. has recently seen weak iPhone sales in China, according to Credit Suisse, adding to recent caution about the region. Shipments of the iPhone fell 35.4% on a year-over-year basis in November, “significantly lagging the 0.2% y/y increase in the broader Chinese smartphone market,” claims analyst Matthew Cabral.

Apple’s share of the Chinese smartphone market slipped to 5 percent from 7 percent last month as it struggled to compete with Chinese juggernaut Huawei, which captured 42 percent of its local market last month. This drop has come despite the Chinese smartphone market being slightly up and follows a double-digit drop in October of 10.3%.

Cabral also wrote that Apple would have a tough time pushing through tariff-related price increases to U.S. consumer if the 15per cent tariffs on billions in Chinese-made consumer goods come into effect on Dec. 15. Apple has asked the Trump administration to waive levies on China-made Apple Watches, iPhone components and other consumer products.

Apple also trails those other domestic players—Huawei, Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi—and its 5.1% annualised market share it record in the third quarter represents a year of decline. There was something of a boost when the Apple iPhone 11 launched, with some strong early sales, but that has not endured. The fact those models do not include 5G connectivity is a major issue for the U.S. giant, and we’re curious how they’ll

US may obstruct Facebook from unifying WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger

The dream of Mark Zuckerberg to unify all the infrastructure of three services – WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger appear to be distant. The US Federal Officials may hamper the process as they are seeking considerable action against Facebook over antitrust concerns over products interaction in the backend, cites a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Must See: Facebook Dark Mode once again spotted by Android users

The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) could prevent Facebook from implementing the unification process if found the process anticompetitive. The Federal Trade Commission will conduct a detailed survey to materialise on how Facebook integrates its products at the backend. Upon noticing any anomaly, the FTC could seek an injunction against the whole unification policy. However, FTC would also require a five-member majority and suit filing in federal court to make injunction possible.

On the other hand, Facebook has been worried about the Federal Trade Commission’s proceedings against its “interoperability” rules. Primarily, the social-media giant’s interoperability policies prevent other services to compete against Facebook.

It is not currently clear whether the agency will seek an injunction or will file an antitrust lawsuit against the company over its interoperability policies. According to a person familiar with the matter, reveals that the FTC could take possible action as soon as the next month. It is also believed that the agency will ban some interoperability policies to make the stop the anti-competitive acts by Facebook.

We have to wait for some time, to see on which side the boat will float in the coming times. What are your views? Share your important thoughts via the comments below.

The company had revealed its beta program for this update several weeks ago which is finally available as an official stable version for Galaxy Note 10 owners. Open Beta programs are essentially early unpolished builds that are crucial for the company to test and develop a bug-free stable build for its users.

According to previous reports, Samsung was initially expected to update the Galaxy S10 series around Christmas in December 2019, while the Galaxy Note 10 receives it sometime next year. However, the South Korean tech giant has already started the rollout of the Android 10 update for the Galaxy S10 series over the past couple of weeks.

Samsung claims to have sold 1 million units of Galaxy Fold smartphone

Samsung’s first foldable smartphone — Galaxy Fold, went official earlier this year after months of delays because of build quality. However, the smartphone seems to be quite popular in the market.

Samsung Electronic’s president Young Sohn revealed during an event in Berlin that “there’s a million people that want to use this product at $2,000 each.” He then followed up to clarify that the company claims to have sold 1 million units of the Galaxy Fold.

Samsung Galaxy Fold featured

While the numbers are not much compared to the tens of millions of phones that Samsung and Apple move each quarter, but this is quite surprising given the phone’s pricing of around $2,000 as many small manufacturers struggle to achieve the same feat.

For those who are unaware, the Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone went on sale in September this year, months later than originally planned. Samsung canceled its original launch plans and went back to the drawing board, strengthening the phone’s design and revising parts of it to make it less prone to breakage.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone presents a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display with a 1536 x 2152 pixels screen resolution where can use three apps at the same time which Samsung calls Three-app Multitasking.

When the device is folded into phone mode, it offers a 4.6-inch display with 840 x 1960 pixels screen resolution. It comes with a feature called App Continuity which automatically adjust an app when you switch screens. It is powered by a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor paired with 12GB of RAM and packs 512GB of internal storage using UFS 3.0 technology.

Connectivity options on the phone include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. The smartphone also comes with stereo speakers that are equipped with Dolby Atmos surround sound technology.

It comes with camera module that’s made up of a 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP telephoto camera, and another 12MP wide-angle camera. On the front side, it comes with a 10MP sensor. It runs Samsung One UI with Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box and is powered by a 4,380mAh battery which is split into two units and supports Wireless Charging as well as Wireless PowerShare for reverse charging.

Yesterday, the Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone was launched in the Indian market, which comes packed with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. In India, the phone has been priced at ₹1,64,999 (~$2,323) and will go on sale from 20th October.

Huawei Kirin 1020 codenamed Baltimore, features 50% better performance than Kirin 990

Huawei launched the Kirin 990 and Kirin 990 5G processors this year, and they’re quite the impressive chipsets. The latter was the very first 5G equipped SoC on the market, with 10.3 billion transistors and 7nm EUV technology. However, the Kirin 990’s CPU / GPU architecture disappointingly saw no big upgrades, though that will finally change with the upcoming Kirin 1020 SoC.

The latest news shows that the Kirin 1020 processor is code-named “Baltimore”. It’s not surprising, since Huawei’s chips have always been named after cities. We also already know the chipset will be built with TSMC’s 5nm process for better power efficiency and more stable performance. The bigger change comes with the CPU cores however.

The Kirin 1020 will also use the new Cortex-A78 cores skipping the A77 cores that you can find in other flagship SoCs like the MediaTek 1000 Dimensity. When compared to the Cortex-A76 on the Kirin 990, the the new core architecture will allow the Kirin 1020 to easily gain a 50% performance improvement over its predecessor.

That’s a huge upgrade to what was already a fairly speedy SoC. On top of that, it gives Huawei the upper hand against other competitors like the aforementioned MediaTek, who are still relying on Cortex-A77 cores for performance. Nothing has been leaked regarding the GPU, but we’re hoping we can expect similarly big upgrade.

Samsung to further invest $8 Billion in Chinese Chip Plant

Samsung Electronics is one of the largest known brands for consumer-grade products. However, most are unaware of the South Korean tech giant’s actual size and scale of operations which also includes chip manufacturing processes for other smartphone OEMs. Now, the company is expected to further invest an extra $8 billion in its chipmaking factory in Xi’an, China.

According to a new report, Samsung will increase the investment in the Chinese chip factory to boost the production of NAND flash memory chips. It is speculated that the large investment follows after the company predicts a surge in demand for memory to rebound next year due to limited supplies alongside rising demands for fifth-generation networks and devices.

Currently, Samsung is the world’s largest producer of NAND flash memory chips which are capable of holding data indefinitely and are found in smartphones, USB pen drives, and various types of memory cards. Back in 2017, the company was to invest $7 billion over the course of three years in its Xi’an plant that produces such NAND flash memory chips. This investment followed a $10.8 billion which Samsung had already invested earlier for a testing and packaging plant in Xi’an.

Samsung’s dominance in the NAND flash memory market is evident with many competitors still seeking to rival the South Korean giant. However, none have been as successful in the overseas market as Samsung has. Known competitors include South Korea’s SK Hynix, US-based Micron Technology Inc, and Toshiba Corp group.

The new investment raise from Samsung indicates of the ever-growing smartphone industry. Furthermore, new generation devices with faster memory and processing are expected to make a breakthrough in the market in the near future as well. Thus, Samsung has already started preparing with a large extra investment. Notably, examples of other areas that are expected to be hit with high demand in 2020 include the camera lens module of smartphones.

We are all set to meet the first-ever TWS earbuds from realme, the Buds Air on December 17, alongside the Realme X2 model. Now, less than a week before its official release, we have got the complete specs and price leak of the upcoming earbuds. Realme TWS_Comparison LeakAccording to our source, the realme Buds Air will come with 17 hours of battery life. This should be the total battery life of the earbuds when charged with its companion case. It will come with 12mm DBB (Dynamic Bass Boost), which is larger than 11.2mm DBB drivers found on the realme Buds Wireless neckband headphones. We can also confirm that the Buds Air will support AAC codec.

The realme Buds Air comes with wear detection, so it will know when you are wearing it in your ears. The TWS earbuds will feature Bluetooth 5.0 and will come with touch controls, low latency gaming mode, as well as wireless charging. Our source also revealed that the case will come with USB-Type C port and not microUSB.

The realme Buds Air will also feature Dual Mic ENC for calling, however, don’t confuse this with active noise cancellation tech like the ones found in the AirPods Pro. It’s likely to ensure that your audio quality is better during calls.

Finally, our source confirms that the reame Buds Air will indeed be priced at Rs. 4999 (~$71), which is the same figure revealed by a leaked Flipkart listing earlier this week. The earbuds will go on sale immediately after the December 17 launch event in India.

So what do you think? With a 17-hour battery life, wireless charging case, and a decent pair of drivers, the realme Buds Air could be a really competitive TWS option in India.

Realme X50 5G smartphone likely to go official before Spring Festival

After launching the Realme X2 Pro premium flagship smartphone in China and India, the company is now gearing up to launch its first 5G phone in the market. It has already confirmed that the Realme X50 will be the brand’s first 5G smartphone.

While the company has revealed some features of the upcoming Realme X50 5G smartphone, it has not yet confirmed the launch date. Now, it seems almost confirmed that the phone will go official before the Spring Festival in China.

Realme X50 5G render

A few days ago, a user on Weibo asked Realme’s product director if he can show off Realme 5G smartphone to his friends before the Spring Festival and General Manager Wang replied positively.

In addition to that, some users also inquired about the 120Hz refresh rate of the upcoming smartphone, to which Wang replied, “If so, would you buy it?”. This strongly suggests that the company could offer 120Hz refresh rate on the Realme X50 5G.

So far, it has been confirmed that the smartphone will come powered by the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset which has support for dual-mode SA/NSA 5G connectivity. This is the same chipset that is powering the Redmi K30 smartphone.

Rumors indicate that the phone will be equipped with a 6.44-inch AMOLED display. It could be coming with Sony IMX686 60-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad rear cameras and 32-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual front cameras.

The device could be backed by a 4,500mAh battery with VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge technology. The handset may come with up of 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. We expect Android 10-based custom ColorOS 7 running the smartphone.

Since it is driven by a mid-range processor that it is integrated with a 5G modem, the handset is expected to arrive in China with an attractive price tag. The company is also set to launch the Realme X50 Lite (Youth Edition) along with the standard model.

Tim Cook strikes back at critics who say smartphone innovation has peaked

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, the world’s one of the largest technology company, isn’t of the opinion that the smartphone industry has reached its peak. He even doesn’t think it is anywhere near reaching its peak.

During an interview, he said “I know of no one who would call a 12-year-old mature,” where he is referencing the 12 years since the first iPhone debuted. He added, “sometimes these steps are humongous, sometimes these steps are smaller. But the key is to always make things better, not just change for change’s sake.”

Tim Cook, CEO, Apple

His comments come at a time when the sales of iPhone have declined in recent quarters and the overall smartphone shipments across the industry have slowed over the past several quarters.

The industry-wide slump has been attributed to the notion that many new flagship smartphones only offer minor upgrades over their predecessors. This makes it more difficult for companies to convince consumers to upgrade every year or two. This has contributed to the notion that smartphone innovation has peaked.

While analysts predicted that the iPhone 11 series would offer incremental upgrades over its predecessors, it is being believed that the upcoming iPhone models will come with 5G support as well as a new design and technology. It seems that the company is hoping to bring back the iPhone sales growth with major changes to the lineup.
