Honor not only announced new phones today but also announced a new computer. The new PC is the Honor MagicBook Pro Ryzen Edition.
The Honor MagicBook Pro was first announced back in July with Intel’s 8th Gen processor on board. Honor has now announced a Ryzen Edition powered by the Ryzen 5 3550H and Ryzen 7 3750H processors.
Honor’s MagicBook Pro Ryzen Edition has the same design as the Intel version, so you still get a 16.1-inch FHD display with slim bezels, Magic Link 2.0, PCIe SSD, DDR4 RAM, Bluetooth 5.0, Fingerprint scanner, and dual-antenna Gigabit WLAN, etc.
The MagicBook Pro Ryzen Edition is available in four variants:
Ryzen 5 + 8GB RAM + 512GB SSD
Ryzen 5 + 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD
Ryzen 7 + 8GB RAM + 512GB SSD
Ryzen 5 + 8GB RAM + 512GB + Linux
The base model (Ryzen 5) is priced at ¥4699 (~$657) and is available in Glacier Silver. If you want more RAM, you can pick up the 16GB RAM version for ¥5199 (~$727). The Ryzen 7 Edition with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is also priced at ¥5199 (~$727). All three will only come in Glacier Silver and will be available for purchase starting September 23. The Linux version (Ryzen 5 + 8GB RAM + 512GB SSD) sells for ¥4399 (~$615) and will be available for purchase on September 30.
Huawei today unveiled the much-anticipated Kirin 810-powered Honor 20s in China and alongside the premium device came another amazing model – the Honor Play 3. The device is basically a budget model, looking at the 999 yuan (~$139) starting price. However, the phone has a solid build and decent specs lineup.
The Honor Play 3 packs a glamorous 6.39-inch full-screen display with a punch-hole at the top left corner which houses the selfie camera. The use of a punch-hole design ensures the bezels are trimmed to the barest minimum with the device getting up to 90% screen ratio. The rear panel uses a unique starlight rhythmic texture, such as the streamer that the meteor draws in the night sky.
The phone is powered by an Hisilicon Kirin 710F chipset paired up with 4GB/6GB of RAM. The phone comes with 64GB and 128GB storage options. There is also a 4000mAh battery on board with support for 10W fast charger. For photography, the Honor Play 3 packs a 48MP main camera teaming up with an 8MP wide-angle sensor and a 2MP depth of field sensor.
The phone runs EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9.0 Oreo and has dual SIM slots. The device prides itself as the first budget Huawei model to pack its GPU Turbo 2.0 “full scene acceleration engine”. The Play 3 is also the first model in the thousand yuan category that supports Ark compiler, EROFS super file system, Link Turbo, AI smart communication and many other self-developed flagship technologies.
In terms of price, the 4GB+64GB version is priced at 999 yuan ($139), the 4GB+128GB version is priced at 1299 yuan ($181), and the 6GB+64GB version is also priced at 1299 yuan ($181). The device comes in Aurora Blue, Flame Red, and Black and is expected to go on sale on September 10 at 10 AM.
Unlike traditional webcams, an Internet Protocol (IP) camera uses the network or the internet to transmit and receive data.
The images captured by this standalone camera can be viewed regardless of your location as long as you are connected to the internet. Moreover, it gives you access to video footages and audio streaming and can be easily controlled remotely.
On the downside, setting up this versatile security solution isn’t necessarily easy on the pocketbook. While the market is teeming with high-end IP cameras for indoor, as well as outdoor use, they don’t come cheap.
Much to the relief of those on a tight budget, Banggood is offering the Xiaomi Mijia Smart IP Camera for a lowered price. While the feature-rich IP camera from Xiaomi would normally set you back $54.59 on the Chinese online store, you can buy it for just $27.99 by applying coupon code BG27Camera at the time of checking out.
In other words, you can save $26.6 simply by applying the aforesaid coupon before placing your order. On top of that, you can get free shipping if your cart value exceeds $19.99.
An absolute bargain at this price, the Mijia H.265 1080P 360° Night Version Smart AI IP Camera allows you to view real-time video from anywhere and even comes in handy for making two-way voice calls.
Once you activate the watching home mode, the IP camera track abnormal activities record the alarm video and send it your mobile phone. The algorithm, backed by AI technology minimizes invalid alarm and ensures you only get accurate notifications.
Equipped with dual motor drive, the control unit 360-degree horizontal rotation adjusts the angle of view for capturing high-definition images. It offers infrared night vision for crystal clear pictures even in dark situations.
Moreover, it adopts the H.265 video coding technology for seamless viewing under the same network conditions and for using less space for video storage. You can use Mijia APP to connect the camera to other Mijia smart products and customize the recording.
You can follow this link to check out more details about the Mijia Smart IP camera and take full advantage of the coupon before it expires.
Ulefone launched its latest flagship -T2- a while back and while many were attracted by its Helio P70 SoC, 6GB/128GB memory, and dual rear 16MP/8MP camera, it is more than that. Along with the powerful specs, it also comes with a superior 6.7″ display from Sharp with 19:9 aspect ratio. The company believes that bigger is better and to prove that, they uploaded a comparison video of Ulefone T2 vs iPhone XR display.
The 6.1″ display of the XR seems too small as the 6.7″ display of the Ulefone T2 provides a larger field of view and allows you to see content more clearly and comfortably while browsing, playing games or watching videos without tiring your eyes. Moreover, the T2 supports split-screen function that enables you to work on a number of different tasks at the same time. Convenient both for work and entertainment.
Also, bear in mind that Ulefone T2 packs 4200mAh battery with 9V2A fast charge, 8MP selfie camera, face & fingerprint unlock, NFC with Google Pay, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou navigation system, global frequency bands, and runs latest Android 9 Pie. All that can become yours for just $269.99 since the device is currently on sale that will also get you a phone case and protective film for free. For more details, you can visit the official company website.
Since camera performance has become very important nowadays, Cubot has been working hard since the beginning of this year to improve the camera performance for its upcoming models. To achieve that, the company has set up a new algorithms team and has deep cooperation with the world-renowned technology 360 company. The result of this effort is the three new devices that will soon hit the market: Cubot X20, X20 Pro and P30, which will be equipped with the same AI Triple-Camera combination.
The sensor combination on all three will be the same meaning a Sony IMX486 12MP main sensor, a Sony IMX350 20MP depth sensor, and a 125° ultra-wide camera with 8MP sensor. Also, thanks to the AI scene recognition. they will be able to choose a shooting mode automatically among 16 scenes. It is worth mentioning that real-time beautification is also supported. The 16 AI scenes include Food, Pet, Beach, Building, Person, Flowers, Sky, Plant, Sunset, Night view, Backlit, Car, Text, Fruit, Autumn, and Snow.
What’s more, low-light performance is also improved. Using the latest Cubot camera algorithm, it can combine many photos into a high-quality photo with multi-frame noise reduction. From the picture below, you can see the camera strength of the CUBOT X20 Pro. Although this is just a time to shoot, it shows the details of the picture very well, and the color in the picture is also very well restored.
20MP depth camera, leading the industry
Cubot is probably the first company to use 20MP as a depth camera. Compared to other brands that only use 2MP or 8MP for depth cameras, Cubot’s choice demonstrates the work they’ve done. The results are immediately visible when you shoot a portrait or you want to blur the background in a photo to emphasize the foreground object.
125° Ultra-wide-angle
Following the paradigm of other manufacturers, Cubot jumps on-board the wide-angle lens by adopting a 125° lens on its new devices, allowing the camera to break through the narrow field of view. Whether it’s a landscape architecture or a multi-person outing, all the beautiful pictures and all the fine details can be seen without losing every inch of beauty. At the same time, the new algorithm has intelligent auxiliary composition function, so that users without photography knowledge can also make stunning visual blockbusters.
The main parameters of the new phones are as follows:
Besides the hardware and the upgraded camera performance, all three phones definitely look beautiful but that’s a bit subjective so we leave it up to you to decide. All of them will be released simultaneously in September and based on past experience, their starting price should be very competitive.
Honor has announced a new member for the Honor 20 series. The new Honor 20S joins the already announced Honor 20i, Honor 20, and Honor 20 Pro. Unlike its siblings (the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro), it is not a flagship phone.
The Honor 20S may not be a flagship device, but it shares some features with the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro. For example, it uses the same 6.26-inch punch-hole LCD display panel and also has a 32MP selfie camera. While the rear design is different, inspired by Butterfly Wings according to Honor, it is equally stunning. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner
The Honor 20S’s 6.26” punch-hole display has TÜV Rheinland’ Certified Eye Comfort Mode and has a screen-to-body ratio of 91.7%. There is a 7nm Kirin 810 processor powering the device with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The phone’s 32MP 1.6µm selfie camera boasts features such as AIS, AI HDR+, and a super night mode for portrait photos.
There are three cameras on the back. The first sensor is an 8MP f/2.4 ultrawide angle camera and it is followed by the 48Mp f/1.8 primary camera and then a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera. All three sensors and LED flash are housed together. The camera housing even has a slight bump.
The Honor 20S runs Magic UI 2.1.1 and not EMUI 9.1. It is still based on Android 9 Pie and includes features like GPU Turbo 3.0, Calorie Identifier (in-camera feature), and the YOYO AI Assistant. It also features the Huawei ARK compiler for better system performance. The Honor 20S supports dual VoLTE dual-connection, allowing you to connect to two 4G networks at the same time. You will be able to set one 4G network to data only while the other can be set to calls only; this is to prevent interruptions when playing online games.
The Honor 20S packs a 3750mAh battery with support for 20W fast charging. The phone is priced at ¥1899 (~$265) for the 6GB RAM version and ¥2199 (~$307) for the 8GB RAM version. It comes in Butterfly Black, Butterfly Blue, and Butterfly White and will be available for purchase starting today at 9 PM local China time on Tmall, Vmall, Suning, and JD.com.

AnTuTu’s Android Performance list is a good indicator of the top smartphones of the month in terms of sheer power. Today the benchmarking app has released the Top 10 Android Performance Phones for August 2019 and there are no real surprises in the list. The recently announced Snapdragon 855 Plus smartphones top the list. However, there are slight variations in the placement of the flagships, all thanks to the changes made in the new AnTuTu v8.0.
So before we actually take a look at the phones in the list, let’s see what these changes are. First, AnTuTu v8.0 considers the storage variant of each device while ranking the phones in the list. Larger the storage, better the ranking. Simply put, scores will differ among the different variants of the same device. The new version also takes the screen refresh rates into account. So it’s no surprise that OnePlus 7 Pro jumps up a few places (vs June’s ranking) in August’s ranking due to its 90Hz screen.
Now coming to the AnTuTu Android Performance list for August 2019, Black Shark 2 Pro12GB+256GB variant takes the lead with 469,708 points. This isn’t surprising given that it features the new Snapdragon 855+ processor with UFS 3.0. In the second place is the 8GB+128GB version of the ROG Phone 2.
The new ROG phone also features the latest SD855+ chipset, so it’s not surprising to see it placed on top. However, note that there’s a 12GB RAM version of this phone and given that there’s hardly any difference in its score vs Black Shark 2 Pro, it’s likely that the ROG Phone 2 12GB RAM model will top this list. In case you are wondering why we haven’t seen the higher-end model of the ROG Phone 2, note that AnTuTu considers a sample size of at least 1000 scores for this list.
What’s really interesting is that the ZTE Axon 10 Pro also makes it in this list but it’s the only phone with 6GB RAM. All the rest have at least 8GB RAM onboard. Meizu 16S8GB + 128GB and Redmi K20 Pro8GB + 256GB complete the list.
Portable audio players have been extremely popular in the past, especially after Apple released the iPod that disrupted the music industry and led to its digital transformation. The next step was once again made by Apple that together with the iPhone, introduced the iPod Touch, a smart audio player that was exactly the same as iPhone minus the phone calls. The smartphone industry as we know it today practically diminished the role of standalone audio players as phones started doing that job.
Nevertheless, there are still people that prefer a standalone audio player as they usually come with better audio quality and much longer battery life. Shanling M6 is one of those audio players and it was announced on September 2nd bringing high-end audio quality and Android OS allowing for more functions. Based on the success of Shanling M5s, Shanling M6 features a 4.7″ Sharp IPS HD screen and it is powered by the Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC backed by 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Also, you can expand its memory up to 2TB more via the microSD slot. The audio quality is taken care of by the Dual AK4495SEQ chip with both DACs working even in single-ended mode. Lastly, Shanling developed an all-new Music app as the stock music player.
The OS running on the M5 is based on open Android OS and allows for installation of third-party apps just like on any Android device. Also, having the SD430 means it supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge™ 3.0 protocol and can be fully recharged in 2 hours. What’s more, it supports 2-way Bluetooth connection meaning that you can connect it to your wireless speaker/headphones or pair it with another phone or tablet to enjoy music, movies, Spotify, Tidal or even Youtube with top-quality sound (SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs support).
Shanling M6 key specs
Full open Android OS, allowing installation of any third-party app
Customized Android, avoiding any problems and sound degradation caused by Android’s SRC
Newly developed Shanling Music app as a stock music player

It looks like Apple is playing with the idea of making the Apple Watch’s band a bit smarter. As spotted by PatentlyApple, the company was granted a handful of patents this morning, all focused on bringing new tricks to the Watch by way of the band.
One of the patents is for a biometric sensor integrated into a band that could give you a new way to unlock your Watch or paired iPhone instead of using a passcode or Face ID. The patent covers a thermal sensor that could use skin texture and wrist hair patterns to authenticate your identity.
The second granted patent describes a Watch band that can adjust itself on the fly — think Nike’s self-tightening shoes, but on your wrist. If the Apple Watch detects that it’s sliding while you’re running (or if the aforementioned thermal sensors need a closer look at your wrist skin) tensioners in the device could tighten or loosen the band on command.
The third and final patent relates to indicators built into a band. They could display details from the Activity app, such as a step counter or heart rate monitor. The band could also highlight the type of activity your Watch is tracking, such as running or swimming, which would be a handy way to check your device is recording the correct data.
Apple regularly files patents but doesn’t always turn them into real products. Apple has kept its bands relatively simple so far for the sake of keeping them swappable; they come in all sorts of materials and colors, but the electronic bits are contained within the Watch itself. So, whether any of these bands come to fruition remains to be seen.
Paul Jowett, who had been working for Apple since the year 2011, has now been appointed by Huawei Australia as a Director of Marketing. At Huawei, he will be leading the company’s efforts “help bring the company’s world-class line-up of smartphones, PCs, and wearables to more users”.
Commenting on his appointment, Paul Jowett said: “Huawei is constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible with technology, and sets the benchmark for smartphone innovation. I am thrilled to join the Australian team and look forward to delivering exciting campaigns for the business.”
Prior to working for Apple, he had held the position of Head of Channel Marketing at Samsung. He has also worked as Marketing Manager for Vodafone, Brand Marketing Manager for InsuranceLine, and Advertising Manager for 3 Mobile. As for his education, Jowett holds a Masters Degree in Marketing from University of Ulster, obtained in 2000.
Larking Huang, the Managing Director of Huawei Consumer Business Group in Australia, said: “Paul has unrivalled knowledge of the Australian technology landscape and will be vital to fuelling further growth in our consumer business. 2019 has been a record-breaking year for us, having sold more than 100m devices globally, making it our most successful to date. With Paul at the helm of our marketing division, Huawei CBG is well-poised to continue providing Australian consumers with cutting-edge devices.”
Meanwhile, Huawei is all set to launch new color options of the Huawei P30 series smartphones at the IFA 2019 in Berline later this week. After that, later this month, on 19th September, the company will be launching its next-gen Mate series flagship smartphones — Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.
The Huawei P30 Pro already comes in five color variants but Huawei is set to announce two more. The two new colors are Misty Lavender and Mystic Blue and should appeal to the younger generation and fashionistas. A render of the new color variants has surfaced, giving us a good look at the design.
Huawei is going for a two-tone finish similar to that of the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019). The upper part is glossy while the lower part has a matte finish. If you look closely, you can see the power button of the Mystic Blue variant has a touch of red.
The two new color variants will be available for purchase in Europe and will come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage reports Winfuture.de. They will also keep the price tag of the other color variants.
The Huawei P30 Pro was announced in March. It has a 6.47-inch display with a dewdrop notch and a 1080 x 2340 resolution. There is a Kirin 980 processor under the hood which is paired with 6GB of RAM in some markets and also comes in 256GB and 512GB variants.
The phone has a quad-rear camera system that includes a 40MP f/1.6 primary sensor, an 8MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, a 20MP ultrawide angle camera, and a ToF 3D camera. It also has a 32MP selfie camera and a fingerprint scanner under the OLED display. The phone has an IP68 rating, a 4200mAh battery with support for 40W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. The P30 Pro also supports reverse wireless charging, allowing you to charge other phones or accessories that support wireless charging just by placing it on its back.
Samsung and Huawei are currently the two smartphone manufacturers who have announced their foldable smartphones and are set to launch them in the coming weeks. Now, another company seems ready to jump on the foldable smartphone bandwagon — LG.
A foldable smartphone patent from LG has surfaced online, which showcases a double-folding device equipped with a stylus. The patent, registered with the Korean patent office and was granted a coupled of months ago, shows a device that can be folded twice. It looks similar to the foldable prototype that Xiaomi teased earlier this year.
In the unfolded state, the smartphone looks like a table with 16:10 aspect ratio. It features thinner bezels on three sides but has a wider “handle” that houses the triple-camera setup. The design is quite clever and the accompanied stylus that can be stowed away in one of the two hinges of the phone.
In the folded state, the smartphone seems to have an aspect ratio of the modern smartphone and has thin bezels at the top as well as bottom. In the patent document, the device described looks thin but the real-world product could be different.
Do note that this is just a patent application and it does not guarantee that LG will be launching a smartphone with this design in the market but it does indicate that the company is exploring the idea.
While Samsung and Huawei are ready with their foldable smartphone, most of the other major smartphone companies, including LG, Xiaomi, and Oppo among others are yet to announce their foldable smartphone but has indicated that they are working on it.
Meanwhile, LG is gearing up for IFA 2019 in Berlin, Germany this week and the company is likely to announce the LG G8X smartphone, potentially coupled with a secondary display. At the same trade show, Samsung could re-launch its Galaxy Fold smartphone.
Last month, we reported a Sharp smartphone was certified by Taiwan’s NCC agency. It also appeared on Geekbench and received its Bluetooth certification. Renders and specs of the phone which will launch as the Sharp Aquos V have been leaked on the web.
The Aquos V is said to be a budget smartphone set to launch in Taiwan and Europe but unlike most budget smartphones, it will come with a flagship processor albeit an old one – the Snapdragon 835 processor.
The leaked spec sheet says the phone will have a 5.93-inch 2160 x 1080 LCD display. The attached renders show the screen has moderately-sized bezels at the top and bottom. The Aquos V will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage which can be expanded up to an additional 256GB via a MicroSD card slot.
The phone will have an 8MP CMOS seflie camera that can record in FHD. On the back are dual 13MP cameras which can record in 4K. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the back and support for Face ID.
The Aquos V will have dual-SIM support, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and an audio jack. It will pack a 3126mAh battery under its hood that charges via a USB Type-C port. There is no mention of fast charging but we expect it to at least support 18W fast charging.
The phone will run Android 9 Pie out of the box. It will weigh 165 grams and measure 157 x 76 x 9 millimeters. The leaked press renders show an uninteresting gray variant. We hope it looks better in real life as that is the only color available.
The Aquos V is reported to be scheduled for announcement tomorrow at IFA 2019. We should know about availability and price for both markets after the unveiling. The Aquos R3 with its dual-notch design is also reported to get a global launch tomorrow, nearly four months after launching in Japan.

Sony will be attending IFA 2019, which kicks off this week, and the Japanese smartphone maker will be unveiling new products. The Xperia 2 which leaked recently is among the devices expected to be unveiled at the September 5 event.
Today, Sony shared a teaser on its Instagram page teasing that it will launch an Xperia Smartphone that “fits in the palm of your hand”. The teaser doesn’t reveal anything about the phone other than the hint that it will be able to fit in your palm.
Some say the phone being teased is the Xperia 2 which will come with a 6.1-inch screen that is smaller than the Xperia 1’s 6.5-inch display. While the screen size is smaller, it doesn’t really fit into the palm of your hand like the Xperia XZ2 Compact which has a 5” screen and even thick bezels.
The Xperia 2 will come with triple rear cameras, a display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It will also have NFC and a dedicated camera button.
Huawei will be replacing the Enjoy 9 Plus tomorrow by announcing the Enjoy 10 Plus. Ahead of the official renders of the phone have surfaced on a Chinese retailer site that it will be releasing in four color editions in China. Also, through a China Telecom listing, the pricing of its four variants have been revealed.
It has been found that the Huawei Enjoy 10 Plus will be hitting Chinese markets in color options like Magic Night Black, Realm of Sky (Blue), Red Teal Orange and Emerald Green. The China Telecom listing of the smartphone (model number STK-AL00) has revealed that the phone will be releasing in four editions such as 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, 4 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. These variants are mentioned with respective price tags of 1,299 Yuan (~$181), 1,599 Yuan (~$223), 1,999 Yuan (~$279) and 2,199 Yuan (~$307). It is advisable to digest the pricing information with a grain of salt since price information on China Telecom for some unreleased phones were found to be incorrect in the past.
The Enjoy 10 Plus features a 6.59-inch IPS LCD display with notch-less appeal. It supports 1080 x 2340 pixels full HD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The Kirin 710F that includes an octa-core processor that works at 2.2GHz is present under the hood of the device. The handset includes a larger battery of 4,000mAh, but there is no support for fast charging. The EMUI 9.1 based Android 9 Pie OS runs on the device.
