Redmi K20 stuns in official render, confirms triple camera setup

The Redmi K20 series will launch on May 28. The two phones – the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro – have been in the news a lot in the past couple of weeks. Redmi has confirmed some key specs and features but today it has shared an official render of the Redmi K20.

Redmi seems to be taking the design of the Mi 9 series up a notch with the Redmi K20. It is hard to describe the finish but we are sure the phone maker will spend a significant part of the launch explaining how they achieved this mesmerizing design.

Redmi K20 press render

The phone is mainly red but there are streaks of blue too which we believe will change depending on the angle light rays reflect off it.

The Redmi K20 will have three rear cameras that are arranged in the middle of the phone. The first camera sits separately from the other two and has a gold ring around it. The other two cameras are together in a black housing while a pill-shaped LED sits horizontally below the setup.

Redmi shared a picture of an official case last week, and a few days ago, it confirmed the phone will come with a 48MP Sony IMX586 camera and have support for 960fps super-slow motion recording.

Further down is the Redmi branding and the words “Designed by Redmi”. There is a power button on the right of the phone alongside the volume control buttons. Unfortunately, we can’t make out the ports on the device.

Huawei Nova 5 3C certification shows it is slapped with a super fast 40W charger

Huawei‘s latest flagship P30 Pro came with a 40W fast-charging solution developed by the company. The 40W fast charge may find its way into the mid-range Nova 5 series when they are launched. A pair of Huawei models believed to be the Nova 5 models have received 3C certification in China. The models are listed with model numbers SEA-TL10 and SEA-AL10.Huawei Nova 5 3C certified

China’s 3C listing doesn’t usually reveal much but the most important thing we can grab from the listing is the presence of a 40W charger inside the retail box. The charger has the same serial number as the one spotted on the Huawei P30 Pro’s charging block.

While the model numbers don’t categorically confirm the Nova 5 moniker, the appearance of a Huawei model on the Eurasian Economic Commission’s website bearing a similar model number SEA-LX1 and listed as “Huawei nova 5” lends credence to speculations that this is the Nova 5 models. Besides, the Nova series is yet to get updated this year and we expect a fresh launch to happen soon.

A couple of protective cases and renders of the Nova 5 had recently leaked online giving us an idea of the design. The Nova 5 hit EEC with the Nova 5i which had the codename SEA-LX1U. The device will have a design similar to the Honor 20 Lite but there won’t be a rear fingerprint sensor. Instead, it will pack an under-display fingerprint sensor.

Ymobile postpones Huawei P30 Lite launch in Japan

Since the imposition of trade restrictions by the US, Huawei is struggling to secure enough sales. The uncertainty among Huawei users over future updates and after-sales service is further deflecting the company’s reputation. Unfortunately, Huawei has hit another hurdle in Japan. Ymobile – SoftBank Corp’s low-cost mobile carrier has delayed the launch of Huawei P30 Lite, amid the US trade restrictions. To safeguard itself from any loss, the company needs time to assess the impact of the US trade ban. Hiroyuki Mizukami, Ymobile spokesperson said, “we are currently trying to confirm if our customers will be able to use the equipment with a sense of safety.”

Ymobile is unsure about the launch of Huawei P30 Pro. Similarly, another Japanese carrier – KDDI has held the handset sale since Wednesday. The spokeswoman of KDDI, Reiko Nakamura said: “We’re checking the facts on how (the US decision) was made and its impact.”

Whereas, Japan’s largest telecom operator, NTT Docomo is currently evaluating the situation and is supposed to hold reservations for the Huawei P30 Pro smartphone. The company cites they are “studying possibility of stopping the receiving of sales orders of HUAWEI P30 Pro that we are planning to release this summer.”

Last week the US president – Donald Trump blacklisted Huawei and terms it as posing “an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States”. It barred all the US companies from supplying equipment and other services to Huawei. Google particularly banned Android support for Huawei devices, however, later it was delayed for 90 days. Various companies including ARM (Arm Holdings), Qualcomm and Intel terminated ties with Huawei.

HTC 2Q7A100 with dual selfie cameras could be arriving soon; Could it be HTC U11 Eyes’ successor?

Recent reports have revealed that HTC 2Q7A100 could be an upcoming high-end smartphone from the company. The smartphone has bagged approval from the National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan. The NCC certification of the phone has reveled its front design through a schematic. The image has revealed that the smartphone will be arriving with dual front-facing cameras. Last year, HTC had launched the Snapdragon 652 powered HTC U11 Eyes smartphone with dual 5-megapixel selfie cameras. Probably, the newly spotted HTC 2Q7A100 phone could be the successor of the HTC U11 Eyes.

The schematic of the HTC 2Q7A100 has revealed that the smartphone is equipped with thick-sized upper and lower bezels. Last month, the smartphone had appeared on AnTuTu benchmarks through which it was revealed its display will offer full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9.

The upper bezel of the phone has dual front-facing cameras. Its right edge is fitted with buttons for volume and power. The NCC listing has revealed that the phone will be available in Grey color. There is a possibility that it could be also available in other color options.

The AnTuTu and Geekbench appearance of the HTC 2Q7A100 have revealed that it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 710 chipset and 6 GB of RAM. The handset will be arriving with an internal storage of 128 GB. The Android 9 Pie OS will come preloaded on the device.

The Taiwanese company is also working on another mid-range phone that has a model number of 2Q741. It was recently spotted on Geekbench with MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, 6 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie OS. As of this writing, HTC is yet to officially confirm on the existence of these devices.

Things get worse as ARM (Arm Holdings) suspends business with Huawei

You might be wondering what is happening since ARM, the semiconductor giant isn’t a US company. It is actually a British company with its headquarters in Cambridge, England but which is now owned by Japan’s SoftBank. So, why is it announcing that it is suspending business with Huawei following the recent trade ban by the US?

ARM Holdings

In the memo which ARM sent to its employees, it instructed them to stop all “active contracts, support entitlements, and any pending engagements” with Huawei and its subsidiaries. The reason it gave for this is that its chip designs which Huawei uses for its Kirin processors contain “US-origin technology”! Hence, the US trade ban covers them.

This is a big blow for Huawei as that means it can’t develop new processors (the Kirin 985 is reportedly not affected and maybe the next gen Kirin 700 SoC which may already be in development).

It has been reported that the memo was sent out to workers on May 16 last week, and even with the 90-day temporary reprieve granted by the US, ARM employees have not been told they can resume work with Huawei.

Huawei Kirin

The memo informed its members of staff to send a message to Huawei’s own employees informing them that they will not be able to “provide support, deliver technology (whether software, code or other updates), engage in technical discussions, or otherwise discuss technical matters with Huawei, HiSilicon, or any of the other named entities”. ARM staff have also been instructed to “politely decline” and end conversations related to business with Huawei employees at industry events.

The ban is said to also affect ARM China, a company in China which ARM Holdings owns a 49% stake in. The company was established last year between ARM and a Chinese investment group to help ARM develop and offer products and support in China.

Huawei phones use chipsets from Qualcomm, MediaTek, and its own in-house developed Kirin SoCs. It is not yet clear if ARM Holdings is misinterpreting the US ban but if it isn’t, it means Huawei won’t be able to use MediaTek processors to which are built on ARM technologies.

Purported Redmi K20 hands-on images appear to reveal front design

The Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro smartphones are scheduled to go official on May 28. Redmi has already revealed that the Redmi K20 will be sporting a notch-less display. Earlier today, the Chinese firm confirmed that it will be featuring a AMOLED screen that will be integrated with a 7th generation in-display fingerprint reader. Hands-on images of the purported Redmi K20 smartphone have been leaked to reveal its front design.

The new images of the alleged Redmi K20 show that it will be arriving with a large notch-less screen surrounded by thin bezels. The thickness of the chin of the device appears similar to its top bezel. The right side of the smartphone seems to be equipped with a volume rocker and below it is a power key. A dedicated key for accessing the Xiao AI assistant seems to be present on the left side of the phone. Unfortunately, there are no images showing the rear design of the phone.

Previous reports have revealed that the Redmi K20 will be featuring a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that will carry support for full HD+ resolution. The smartphone is expected to arrive with a 20-megapixel motorized pop-up selfie snapper. The Redmi K20’s rear camera setup will include Sony IMX586 48-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The handset will also carry support for 960fps slow-motion video shooting.

The Redmi K20 and K20 Pro have reportedly received approvals from 3C authority of China. It appears that the Redmi K20 may arrive with 18W rapid charging support, whereas the Pro edition may offer 27W fast charging. It is speculated that Redmi K20 could be fueled by Snapdragon 730 mobile platform and it may release in markets outside of China as Xiaomi Mi 9T.v The Redmi K20 Pro could be driven by the Snapdragon 855 mobile platform. Probably, the K20 Pro will release in markets outside of China as Poco F2.

Redmi K20 with in-display fingerprint reader

The Redmi K20 duo are expected to arrive with up to 8 GB of RAM and an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. There is no information on the price tags of these smartphones. They are expected to release in color variants like Carbon Fiber, Blue and Red.

There is no concrete proof to confirm that the above images really belong to the Redmi K20. Hence, its advisable to wait for further leaks to know the appearance of the phone. What’s your opinion on the above images? Fake or real? Share us your views by posting your comments below.

MediaTek confirms to launch 5G AI-powered chipset this month

Many smartphone manufacturers have already launched 5G enabled smartphones in the market. All the 5G enabled smartphones other than the Samsung and Huawei depends on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and X50 modem. MediaTek is now coming soon with its “smart meet fast” 5G AI product. It is said to be fast and smart AI-powered chipset with 5G connectivity.

mediatek 5g

MediaTek is teasing the new 5G chipset featuring AI capabilities in an image via Weibo. It is expected to feature improved AI processor APU 2.0 as like on the Helio P90 SoC. However, the company didn’t reveal any other detail about the new chipset.

The upcoming MediaTek 5G chipset is reportedly built on a 7nm process and will fare better than the present Helio P90 SoC. Recently announced Helio M70 baseband chip is supposedly taking place on the MediaTek 5G chipset with sub-6GHz band support for better 5G connectivity.

We expect more details, including its launch date and other features to leak before the official launch by the end of this month.

MediaTek is already running late in bringing support for 5G connectivity. Whereas, Qualcomm is quite ahead with multiple 5G modems – X50 and X55.

More bad news for Huawei: Europe may bar Huawei equipment

Things were looking up for Huawei, but now they maybe be going straight back into the ground. Fresh off the US ban on Huawei, the US is now claiming that Europe may be coming around to the alleged threat presented by Huawei‘s equipment. While Europe nations won’t ban Huawei, they may be planning to bar Huawei’s equipment from their next-generation telecom networks.

This is crushing news for Huawei, and presents another blow to the progression of 5G technology. It also represents a win for the Trump administration whom have been warning others against using Huawei equipment in their 5G systems. No European countries that are supporting the bar have been officially named, so nothing’s really set in stone yet.

While Huawei may have a ton of backup plans regarding the US market, we wonder how they’ll deal with this bit of Europe news. It’s a shame that this is happening at all, though there’s not really all that much that can be done. As of right now, Huawei’s US ban has been delayed for 90 days to allow the company to recoup.

If Huawei finds a way to turn all this bad news around, it’ll be incredible to watch. So far they’ve been doing decently with covering the grounds of most of their products. Europe’s is a completely different type of problem, and we want to know how all this turns out. Truly, this has been one of the most intriguing car crashes in the tech world as of late.

Xiaomi now plans to optimize advertisements in MIUI

Xiaomi’s custom user interface — MIUI, which had earlier received a lot of praise from the users, has been a major source of criticism for the company since past several months. The major reason behind that is the company’s strategy to put advertisements in MIUI.

Many users have complained about the annoyance of advertisements in MIUI and how it interferes with the usage of the smartphone. However, the company’s response made it clear that ads in MIUI are here to stay but the company could optimize how it works.

Well, that’s what the company is saying now. Xiaomi’s CEO and co-founder said that the company will remove the inappropriate ads and the advertisements that ruin the user experience. Now, General Manager for the Internet Services for Xiaomi says that the company plans to reduce the number of advertisements in MIUI.

The China-based company is planning to do so using algorithms which can improve the advertisement reach rate and also make sure that the ad that users see are relevant to their interests. It now aims to reduce and optimize advertisements on the platform and improve user experience.

This news comes just after the China-based technology company revealed its financial data for the first quarter of 2019. It reported adjusted net profit growth by 22.4 percent year-over-year compared to 2.1 billion yuan (approximately $300 million). It also stated that its total revenue climbed 27.2 percent to 43.8 billion yuan (approximately $6.33 billion). The biggest source of revenue for the company continues to be the smartphone business.

Huawei works with Aptoide to replace Play Store

Google cutting off its Android relationship with Huawei in response to a US government ban on the Chinese giant is still the hottest news on the tech market. It’s a huge shame that Huawei‘s taken this hit, but it seems like the company already has multiple backup plans in store. This time, we’re hearing that Huawei is working with Aptoide to replace the Google Play Store on their devices.

This news was basically confirmed by the CEO of Aptoide, Paulo Trezentos, though he also claims nothing is set in stone. We see no reason to doubt this though, especially seeing how Huawei’s already got an alternative OS in the works. Aptoide already works with Oppo, so there’s no reason for them to not work with Huawei. Aptoide is also a Portugese company, which means the US ban doesn’t affect them.

What we’re interested to see it whether or not Huawei replaces their pre-existing App Gallery app with Aptoide. The App Gallery is Huawei’s own app store that already comes with most of their devices. It’s relatively small compared to Aptoide which has over 900000 applications. We believe we could see Huawei merge Aptoide content into the App Gallery, but that remains to be seen.

Huawei is going hard, and it seems like they may have grand plans to make their own ecosystem here. Aptoide seems like a really logical solution to their problem, and we hope both companies come to an agreement. It’s made for some of the most interesting and exciting times for this Android fan, and we’re eager to see what’s going to happen next. Could Huawei’s popularity finally bring a valid Android competitor?

Sony Mobile has now officially left most of the global market

Sony has been struggling in the smartphone market since the past few years and has been posting losses for several quarters. In April last year, Kenichiro Yoshida took over as the chief executive officer of Sony and unveiled a three-year plan for the company which indicated that the company is moving away from manufacturing gadgets.

Now, in a move which seems to be in line with that strategy, Sony’s mobile division has withdrawn from most of the smartphone market worldwide. The primary reason for this is believed to be the company’s focus on brand building and profitability.

The move, which is reportedly stemmed after the Corporate Strategy Meeting FY2019, is believed to be the part of a relatively short-term plan through March 31, 2019, and is intended to help the company cut operating costs in order to regain profitability.

As per the report, the Japanese company is aiming to cut its operating costs by at least half as compared to 2017. As a result of that drastic reduction, the company’s sole remaining ‘focus regions’ will now be Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong in Asia as well as Europe. The US and the northern segment of the Asian continent are now partially.

Earlier this year, in March, Sony was reportedly planning to merge the mobile division with the other divisions which include the camera, TV, and audio, in order to keep recording millions in profits. The new division will be called Electronics Products and Solutions and should result in technologies being exchanged between future products.
