Xiaomi has launched a few powerbank models, ensuring that your phone remains charged even when you are traveling and have no access to power. Now, the company has today officially launched a new model in China — 20000mAh ZMI Aura 27W.
The company has launched the 20000mAh ZMI Aura 27W two-way fast charging model, which will be available for purchase in China from tomorrow, i.e. 5th December. It is priced at 199 yuan, which roughly converts to $29. It will be available for purchase through the company’s official store and ZMI Tmall official store.
One of the major updates on this new model of powerbank is that it comes with an increased charging power of 27W instead of the 18W in the previous model and support two-way fast charging. Further, it also comes with an improved charging efficiency. Every other aspect of the powerbank remains the same as its previous model.
As for the build, the product’s shell is made from PC+ABS plastic, which is an environmentally-friendly material, and the surface is treated by a matte process. As the name itself suggests, the device comes with a 20,000mAh battery capacity.
There’s an LED power indicator, which blends well with the surface and is not clearly visible when the LEDs are not glowing. There are two output ports so that you can charge two devices simultaneously. For charging, the device supports both micro-USB and USB Type-C, enabling you to use either one to charge the powerbank.
A lot of smartphone manufacturers are getting ready to announce new devices this month. Meizu will be debuting the Meizu 16th smartphone on Dec. 5. Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy A8s on Dec, ASUS will be debuting the ZenFone Max Pro M2 on Dec. 11. The Vivo NEX 2 is also speculated to launch on the same date. The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition will be announced in China on Dec. Some of the other phones that are rumored to debut this month are Nokia 8.1 and Vivo Y81i. Today, Lenovo has confirmed that it will be holding a launch event on Dec. 6 to unleash the Lenovo Z5s.
Recent reports have revealed that the Lenovo Z5s will be equipped with in-screen camera. However, unlike the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A8s and Huawei Nova 4 that have the camera hole placed on the top-left corner, the Lenovo Z5s will have it towards the corner where the notification bar is.
The backside of the phone features a vertically arranged triple camera module. The smartphone has already received 3C and MIIT certifications in China. Only few details of the smartphone have appeared on TENAA. The handset has a model number of L78071 and it features a 6.3-inch display. It measures 156.7 x 74.5 x 7.8mm and it is packed with a 3,210mAh battery. The other specifications of the Lenovo Z5s are still under the wraps.
In related news, Lenovo is working on another smartphone called Lenovo K5X that has a model number of L38041. The smartphone features Snapdragon 636 chipset and up to 6 GB of RAM. It will be available in 64 GB and 128 GB storage choices. It houses a 6.18-inchFull HD+ display that supports 2160 x 1080 pixels which indicates that it will be a notch-less screen that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is likely to be available with up to 128 GB of storage. The handset may receive power from 3,930mAh battery. Other features of the smartphone include 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup and 8-megapixel frontal shooter. There is a possibility that the Chinese manufacturer may announce the Lenovo K5X alongside the Lenovo Z5s.
Qualcomm is all set to announce its next-generation flagship mobile chipset — Snapdragon 855, which is codenamed Snapdragon 8155. Ahead of the official launch event, TechCrunch accidentally published an article, revealing key features of Snapdragon 855.
Soon after realizing the mistake, TechCrunch has taken down the article. However, it confirms that the commercial name of the chipset is Snapdragon 855 and the Snapdragon 8155 was just a codename. In the article announcing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, it said that the Snapdragon 855 mobile platform is the “world’s first commercial mobile platform with support for multi-gigabit 5G”.
Further, the chipset is manufactured using the 7nm process by TSMC and comes with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which is claimed to provide three times better performance compared to the previous solutions. The company also said that it is the first time that an NPU is integrated into the SoC package.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 will have three CPU clusters, including four power-saving cores clocked at 1.78GHz, three high-end cores clocked at 2.42GHz, and one top-performance “gold” core clocked at 2.84GHz. It will be coupled with Adreno 640 graphics processor, which will bring performance improvement.
In addition to the integrated Snapdragon X24 LTE modem, it has Snapdragon X50 5G modem that will provide 5G connectivity. Further, the chipset is optimized for gaming and comes with a new feature called “Snapdragon Elite Gaming”. We’ll know more about this gaming-related feature during the official announcement.
The chipset’s graphics engine has also been optimized for augmented reality (AR) applications, and there’s a specialized computational vision engine that processes “computational photography” data to help deliver better images and videos, similar to Google Pixel 3’s Night Light feature.
It also has a 3D sonic sensor, which is an enhanced ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Thanks to this new sensor, the fingerprint scanner has an enhanced sensitivity, meaning that it’ll work even when there’s a screen protector on top.
High-end devices powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset from manufacturers such as Samsung, Xiaomi, LG, HTC, Motorola, Google, Sony, OnePlus, Oppo, and Vivo will be available from early next year.

Big data has become the new oil of big tech companies across the globe as these giant corporations try to better understand the customer. However, recent big controversial incidents of data theft privacy breach with some high-profile companies have also opened the eyes of users. This is more so the case in China where consumers are becoming wary of the loose rules and guidelines that protect their private data. A new study conducted by the China Consumers Association revealed today that many popular Chinese apps collect an alarming amount of personal data.
According to the study, 100 apps were reviewed out of which 91 apps were found to be involved in the practice. The personal data that these applications collected included user location, contact lists and even mobile numbers on the user’s smartphone. Amongst the most notable apps that were reviewed from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store included Alipay from Ant Financial Services, popular photo-editing app Meitu, bike-sharing platform Ofo and even messaging apps like QQ and WeChat from Tencent Holdings.
The matter is even more serious for other small-scale apps revealed the study. “The problem [of excessive data harvesting] is especially severe among smaller app providers, which have no privacy clauses or provide unreasonable terms.” said the report.
The report comes as tech companies are scaling up their efforts to harvest data which will be used for Artificial Intelligence initiatives in 2019. However, the general populace has become quite aware due to high-profile cases that came into public view this year. In early 2018, China’s three big tech giants – Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent were questioned over their data harvesting practices in Mainland.

If you think the first generation Honor Magic was a good smartphone, then the newly released Honor Magic 2 would definitely leave you in awe. The device could be described in no less a term than a premium flagship phone. That is due to the sleek glass back with a gradient finish, slider design, six cameras, Kirin 980 and lots more. The beautiful device has now been reviewed on our YouTube channel by one of Gizmochina’s tech editor, Adam.
The review is definitely a complete expository of the entire device as the reviewer takes us through the features you’ll find on the device. Some of the innovative features include the screen fingerprint sensor, the triple front and triple rear cameras. Yet another spectacular feature is the slider design which is pretty impressive. The slider design ensures the device comes without a notch on top of the display. The design of the slider is also noticeably different from those of Xiaomi or any other OEM with one of such designs. The slider slides against the rear of the phone which ensures it has some rigidity.
Adam describes the Honor Magic 2 as one fine beast for gaming. That is because it features a powerful Kirin 980 chipset which ensures the phone doesn’t stutter or lag even during heavy gaming. The phone also comes with a decent battery which charges very fast as a result of the phone’s 40W battery. We’ll leave you to judge if the Honor Maic 2 is a hit or miss after watching the video from above. Do remember to subscribe to Gizmochina’s YouTube channel.

Design
If you are looking for the most impressive design, you should grab either a unit of the Huawei Nova 3 or Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro. Indeed, the former carries the highest screen-to-body ratio thanks to its very narrow chin, and it comes with a stunning glass back available in gradient color variants. The latter has an in-display fingerprint reader, so it sports a totally clean back, except for the vertical dual camera setup on the top left corner.
Display
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro has the most stunning display because it is able to provide a better color accuracy. Indeed, it has DCI-P3 coverage and it is HDR10-compliant, and it also has a Super AMOLED panel. Huawei Nova 3 has the most disappointing display, a classic IPS with an average quality, while Meizu 16 sits in the middle.
Specs & Software
If you want the fastest and smoothest device, we recommend you the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro for both its hardware components and its huge software optimization. It is equipped with the octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset by Qualcomm, up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. I also like the software of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro more because it is customized by MIUI. Meizu 16 is almost at the same level and it features exactly the same hardware side, but its custom UI is Flyme OS. Huawei Nova 3 is a step back with a less powerful Kirin 970.
Camera
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro has the best hardware performance as well as the best camera department, with two 12 MP rear cameras, 2x optical zoom, and OIS. It captures a stunning detail even in low-light conditions and it can even record 4K videos at 60 fps. The second place goes to Huawei Nova 3 with an above average rear camera and a dual front camera.
Battery
Meizu 16 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro did not satisfy us so much when it came to battery life. They have below-average batteries compared with today’s standards. But Huawei Nova 3 is convincing thanks to its bigger 3750 mAh battery which can last for one day even with a pretty intensive use.
Price
These devices’ prices range from about €400 to about €500. Meizu 16 and Huawei Nova 3 are currently available on the €400/$453 price range and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro costs about €500/$567 but you can also find it at €450/$510 thanks to online street prices. The device I like more is definitely the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, but not for its battery life. If you want a long lasting phone, then choose Huawei Nova 3.
During the festive season sale in the previous month in India, the Xiaomi Poco F1 was available with attractive discounts on Flipkart. Through Twitter, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed that the Poco F1 will be again available with discounted pricing between Dec. 6 and Dec. 8. through Mi.com and Flipkart.
The company has not revealed more details on the discount. Probably, the Poco F1 will be available through a flash sale. Currently, the 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage are respectively priced at Rs. 20,999, Rs. 23,999 and Rs. 28,999.
POCO fans! As promised yesterday, here comes first of the #3Masterstrokes.
Poco F1 is fitted with a 6.18-inch IPS LCD display that carries support for Full HD+ resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels. The screen is protected with a Gorilla Glass 3 layer. The Snapdragon 845 chipset powers the smartphone. It features up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage.
A dual camera setup equipped with a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 primary sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor is present on the backside of the Poco F1. It has a selfie shooter of 20-megapixel. For face recognition, the handset is equipped with an infrared sensor. The smartphone is packed with a 4,000mAh battery that is enabled with support for Quick Charge 4.0. The Poco F1 handset users have already been treated with MIUI 10. It will be one of the first smartphones to receive Android 9 Pie OS.
In related news, a recent report had revealed that Armored Edition of the 64 GB and 128 GB storage editions of the Poco F1 will be soon available in the near future. At present, only the 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage model of the Poco F1 is available in Armored Edition. It is available in color choices such as Graphite Black, Rosso Red and Steel Blue.
Less than a month following the update that brought Magic UI 2.0, the Honor Magic 2 is getting another update. The update doesn’t bring much save for a nifty new feature to HiVision (Honor’s take on Google lens) and a fingerprint scanner optimization.
The new update is 591MB in size and brings your phone’s version number to version 9.0.0.131 (C00E131R1P19). The changelog says owners can now use HiVision to calculate food weight and calories. All you have to do is point your camera at a food and the phone will attempt to tell you the number of calories it has.
According to XDA Developers, the feature isn’t perfect as it incorrectly identifies some food. For example, it wrongly identifies an onion as a steamed dumpling. However, future updates may improve the feature.
The update also optimizes the fingerprint reader and should result in faster unlocking. The phone has an optical in-display fingerprint scanner.

Samsung is presently the top phone manufacturer globally in terms of market share but the company’s fiercest rival is Apple which sits at the second spot but earns more revenue from its phones than Samsung. This rivalry has seen Samsung pitch various ads that try to persuade Apple fans to try out its Android phones. The company has also employed the services of several brand ambassadors in its major markets cutting across several regions. The ambassadors are usually under contracts with a clause that prevents them from being seen in public using the phones of its rivals such as an iPhone.
Who would thought Samsung will be the one that’ll promote Apple products itself? That is what Samsung’s Nigerian Twitter handled just did when a promotional message for the Galaxy Note 9 was posted from an iPhone. Apparently, the persons responsible for managing the official Samsung Nigeria Twitter account didn’t even own the latest Samsung model. The gaffe was soon removed and the account even deleted but not before it was spotted by tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee who got a screenshot.
Samsung must have realised by now that its fans and even its staff lack the brand loyalty possessed by Apple fans. Earlier last month, the same error was made by Samsung’s Saudi Arabian Twitter feed also posted a similar promotional message last month for the Galaxy Note 9, which also was tweeted using the Twitter for iPhone app. At several times, Samsung’s brand ambassadors have been caught using an Apple iPhone in public. What we can take from all these reports is that the iPhone is usually the preferred brand which explains why the brand still remains the most profitable despite Samsung selling more units annually each year.
