OnePlus One hit with criticism after asking users to smash competing cellphones

Today another yardstick was set as yet another Acer tablet was made public in an illegal way. The straight leaks related to 7.9 inch Android tablets with Intel Bay Trail processors, the details of a model MediaTek octa-core CPU are available on GFX Bench website. They call it Acer Iconia A5-810 and with the description it looks like a pretty interesting device. The tablet has a touch screen display of 7.9 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel, a MediaTek MT8392 ARM Cortex-A7 octa-core CPU, and ARM Mali-450 MP4 quad-core graphics. RAM of 2GB, 16GB storage, 5MP main camera and 2MP front facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS all are features of Acer Iconia A5-810. It runs on Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat software. Acer has not declared officially this tablet or any other similar-sized Intel models that we have seen in past. So it is more likely that someone at the company could be setting criteria on internal sample devices that were never supposed to be made public. But it is also possible that Acer plans to set in motion a series of 7.9 inch Android tablets very soon, possibly with variety of price range and to target various markets.

Smartphone Application Processor shipment declined 4 % in the first quarter of 2014 in China- Digitime reports.

Digtitime Research stated that smartphone-use application processor in dipped 4.2 % but raised to 10.8 % in first quarter of 2014, in China.

In the last quarter of 2013 the MediaTeks’s shipments begin to decline and the trend continued in the first quarter of 2014. The shipments were affected owing to the fact the company focused on mid-range to high-end models and unavailability of comprehensive portfolio of its LTE parts. Report further said.

Another company called Spredtrum Communications also witnessed dip of 16.7 percent in the first quarter of 2014 despite short lead-time orders that were received in previous quarter. It is continue to see the trend of decline as it cannot improve its portfolio currently.

Qualcomm’s QRD (Qualcomm reference design) also saw decline. Qualcomm has started providing solution to platform such as Windows Phone and Firefox OS, but it will require time to yield results. However it saw increase in LTE products which is gaining momentum due to integrated chips.

HiSilicon Technologies an Nvidia managed to keep their shipments momentum up in the first quarter but it was slightly down due to seasonal reasons. Digitime researched elaborated.

The new 2Ghz Mediatek phone from OOne is an attractive, premium 3G Android phone, which features Corning Gorilla glass, Dolby Stereo sound, a 8 mega-pixel Sony rear camera and a luxury price tag.

The OOne O1 was produced by the new phone maker in hopes of bringing Mediatek and Android fans together under one sleek phone. While it is a treat to look at, the high price may prove too high for the features offered.

Asking 3299 Yuan ($527), the O1 is more expensive than many competitors, including the Meizu MX3, Xiaomi Mi3, OnePlus One and Oppa Find7a.

Sounds are loud and clear thanks to the Dolby Stereo system, powered by 2GB Ram and a premium Octacore 2.0Ghz MT6592 chipset. OOne has decided on an enhanced security custom ROM for the O1.

Points lost on the phone come from the underpowered 8 mega-pixel rear camera from Sony, which was surprising to find on a phone at this price. The display is on a HD 1280 x 720 resolution 5-inch screen, protected by Gorilla Glass.

Yi-Duan Tech., based in Shanghai, is releasing a new smartphone modeled OONE-O1, featuring ultra-slim and lightweight design. The company says its new model is 5.67 mm thin, weighs 99 grams, and comes in blue, white, and black. It will be available for purchase on May 6th at a price of 3,299 RMB ($527).

Yi-Duan hasn’t yet released more details of OONE-O1, but according to the information Android Apps has, this new model uses 5 inch display, 720×1280 image resolution, 2.0GHz MT6592 octa core processor, and runs Android 4.2.2 OS.

Seeing the images that has been released so far, OONE-O1 borrows some design from iPhone, and according to the company, the model uses CNC technology, two-sided Kang Ning 3rd Gen. Gorilla Glass.
As for UI , OONE uses self-developed “Enjoy ROM”, featuring simplistic and linear icons, having a unique desing.

Xiaomi released Redmi 1S through the official website a moment ago, while keep the same appearance of the old model, the price will remain at $ 699/799 yuan (about US $115 and $130) for TD-SCDMA and WCDMA 2 version. Xiaomi Redmi 1S TD-SCDMA version which uses 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor, the screen is still 4.7 inches 720P, but the storage upgraded to 8GB, 1GB of memory to run the same as the old meol. In the photo, Xiaomi Redmi 1S does not change the rear camera, but front camera upgraded to 1.6 megapixels.

Chinese smartphones shipment to increase by 21.3 % in Second Quarter

Chinese smartphones vendors will increase 21.3 % in the second quarter of fiscal year 2014. The increase will include 97.4 million units. According to Digitimes Research In first quarter total shipment from Chinese vendors dropped 9 percent as compared to previous quarter.

According to the report that Xiaomi Technology led the shipment category with 10 million units. Coolpad and K-Touch also witnessed increase of 17.5 and 36.4 percent respectively. As sales of 3G Models has lost the growth and thus exporting vendors mentioned decline from 10-30 percent in the first quarter.

Chinese smartphones vendors are expecting to ship almost 28 million units in the second quarter. But brand vendors and large-sized handset will dominate the market due to high production scales and quality supply chain.

Leaks reveal HTC One Mini 2 in 3 colors

The grapevine is that HTC One Mini 2 may not retain its unofficial status for much longer. The new arrival, Compact Premium Smart phones are replacing them thanks to evleaks.

Mr Blass Twitted press photo of HTC mini 2, in three different colors. Gray, Golden, silver sync with the HTC One (M8) series. The design of the new phones are similar to their full sized counterparts.

The leaks did not include the specifications of the phones. It does show that it (the One mini 2) lacks the second camera as speculated it would have. Unfortunately, we didn’t get much information about the screen size, resolution etc. Hopefully the news will be out soon and we’ll get to know the specs.

MediaTek expects revenues to grow 12-20% in 2Q14

Mediatek Inc., a Taiwanese fabless semiconductor public company that provides system-on-chips solutions for various gadgets and electronic devices, is expecting to have this year’s second quarter consolidated revenues growth percentage to 12-20%, or NT$51.5-55.2 billion (equivalent to US$1.71-1.83 billion) in value, as stated by the company’s president, Hsieh Chingchiang.

The 2014 second quarter’s gross margin is also estimated to be reaching up to a percentage of 47.5%-49.5%, a slightly probable increase compared to the previous quarter’s posted gross margin of 48.3%, as being revealed by Hsieh at the company online investors conference lately.

Due to the emerging markets’ continuous demands for smartphones, the MediaTek’s prediction for the smartphone solution deliveries would reach up to 80-90 million units in the second quarter, a significant increase compared to last quarter’s shipment of 75-80 million units, Hsieh mentioned.

As the total number of shipments of the 8-core smartphone solutions in the first quarter exceeded the company’s expectation, which contributed to more than 10% of MediaTek’s total smartphone solution deliveries, Hsieh claimed to have a much better sales of 8-core smartphone solution this quarter compared to the previous period.

MediaTek is planning to commence its volume production of its initial 8-core LTE SoC, known as the MT6595, within this year’s third quarter, proceeded by its 64-bit quad- and 8-core LTE chips in the last quarter of 2014, according to the company’s president.

HTC introduces Extreme Power Saving Mode with HTC One (M8) with Dev addition and unlocked phones

HTC has released an update which was scheduled to be launched along with mobile HTC One (M8). The update has a feature called Extreme Power Saving. Now, the feature will be available to mass audience thanks to feature release. This will be available to the developers and unlocked HTC mobile phones.

Although the size has been increased to 117.98 MB but the Android version is the same. The Magnum Opus of the launch is the feature called “Extreme Power Saving Mode”, which keeps the mobile on the go for longer duration. There are some modification in “the camera and gallery feature” albeit not extended much.

If you have HTC, go to settings > About to check for updates or wait for the notiifcation. This may take some time and you may have to wait. Please tell your opinion after using the phone.
