Vivo S21 Pro could be compact X200 Pro Mini with affordable pricing; Display, chipset details tipped

Vivo surprised smartphone enthusiasts by announcing the Vivo X200 Pro Mini, a powerful flagship phone with a compact design, back in October 2024 in China. The device is available with a starting price of 4,699 Yuan (~$645). A new leak that surfaced on Weibo suggests that the upcoming Vivo S21 Pro could be an affordable alternative to the X200 Pro Mini, as it is also expected to sport a similar compact form factor.

Vivo S21 series key specifications leaked

Alleged Vivo S21 series leak

To recall, the company unveiled the Vivo S20, equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, and the S20 Pro, featuring the Dimensity 9300+ SoC, in December 2024 in China. It is unclear whether the successor lineup will be called the Vivo S21 or S30 series. As per a new leak, the upcoming S-series Vivo phones will have two models, which could be called the S21 and S21 Pro.

It appears that the Vivo S21 will continue to feature a 6.67-inch OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, similar to its predecessor.

The higher-end model will be equipped with the Dimensity 9300+ chipset. Surprisingly, instead of featuring the same-sized or a larger display, it is tipped to house a 6.31-inch OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if the company dubs it the Vivo S21 Pro Mini instead of the S21 Pro. Like the S20 Pro, its successor may arrive with a sub-3,500 Yuan (~$480) price tag.

The Vivo S21 series is expected to compete with the Honor 400 series and the Oppo Reno 14 series in China. These devices are expected to debut in May.

Infinix GT 30 Pro key specifications leak, revealing major upgrades and gaming trigger buttons

Infinix has just launched the Infinix Note 50 (4G) and Note 50 Pro (4G) in Indonesia. The brand is expected to introduce other Note 50 models in different markets soon. Meanwhile, it seems that Infinix is working on a gaming-focused Infinix GT 30 Pro, as the first details of the device have surfaced, suggesting its launch may not be far away.

Infinix GT 30 Pro specifications (rumored)

Infinix-GT-20-Pro-5G
Infinix GT 20 Pro

Leaked information reveals that the Infinix GT 30 Pro will feature a 6.78-inch flat AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution of 1224 x 2720 pixels and a high 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it will house the all-new Dimensity 8350-Ultimate chipset.

The GT 30 Pro will be equipped with a 5,500mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging. It will be available in three LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage configurations: 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB. The device will come preloaded with XOS 15-based Android 15.

The GT 30 Pro is expected to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor – the Infinix GT 20 Pro, which featured the Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging support.

The leak further reveals that the Infinix GT 30 Pro will sport a 13-megapixel front-facing camera. On the back, it will feature a 108-megapixel main camera with OIS support, accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Finally, the device features L1 and R1 buttons, which could serve as gaming trigger buttons and can also function as shortcut keys for applications.

Infinix is unlikely to reveal any details about the GT 30 Pro soon, as the company is currently focused on the global launch of the Note 50 series, scheduled for later this month. To recall, the GT 20 Pro was unveiled in April, so its successor may debut around the same time next year.

These are the upcoming China-exclusive smartphones

China’s smartphone market is about to get a fresh wave of exclusive releases from some of the biggest names in the industry. Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and OnePlus are all reportedly preparing new flagship and mid-cycle refreshes, most of which are unlikely to make their way to global markets. Here’s a breakdown of what’s coming.

1. Xiaomi 15S Pro

Xiaomi 15 Pro

Xiaomi’s last “S Pro” phone, the Xiaomi 12S Pro, was launched back in 2022, but the company skipped this variant for the 13 and 14 series. That’s set to change with the Xiaomi 15 lineup, as the Xiaomi 15S Pro has been spotted in various leaks.

First revealed in an IMEI listing under model number 25042PN24C and codenamed “dijun,” the Xiaomi 15S Pro was later seen on China’s 3C certification database. The listing confirmed the device will support 90W fast charging, aligning with the standard Xiaomi 15 Pro model. However, it’s unclear whether the 15S Pro will inherit the two-way satellite communication found on the 15 Pro.

Beyond its charging speed, little is known about the 15S Pro’s design and internal hardware. The model number suggests an April 2025 launch window, but Xiaomi has yet to confirm anything officially. Given the precedent set by the Xiaomi 12S Pro, it’s likely that the 15S Pro will remain a China-exclusive model.

2. Oppo Find X8S and X8S Mini

OPPO Find X8

Oppo is preparing to expand its Find X8 lineup with the Find X8S and a smaller Find X8S Mini. The Find X8S is expected to be powered by MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 Plus chip. This could give the phone a slight edge in benchmark performance, but the real-world performance will likely stay the same.

The Find X8S will reportedly feature a 6.6-inch display, keeping it in line with the Find X8, while the Find X8S Mini will opt for a more compact 6.3-inch screen.

The X8 Mini’s camera is rumored to have a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x zoom. This setup, interestingly, is the same as the Find N5.

Both the devices are expected to have an 80W wired and a 50W wireless charging. Oppo has yet to confirm if these devices will remain China-exclusive, but given its history with past models, it wouldn’t be surprising.

3. OnePlus 13 Mini

OnePlus 13 Mini

OnePlus is rumored to be working on a compact flagship called the OnePlus 13 Mini. Unlike most compact smartphones that compromise on battery life, the 13 Mini is expected to feature a massive 6,000mAh battery.

The phone will reportedly have a 6.3-inch OLED LTPO display with a 1.5K resolution and narrow bezels. The camera setup is said to include a 50MP Sony IMX906 main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

Powering the device will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and the OnePlus 13 Mini will also support wireless charging, an optical in-display fingerprint scanner, and a glass back. With an expected launch in March or April 2025, the 13 Mini will likely be positioned as a high-end compact alternative for those looking for a powerful phone in a smaller form factor.

4. Vivo X200S

Vivo launched the X200 series in late 2024, and now it’s preparing to release an incremental upgrade in the form of the X200S. The X200S will likely feature the Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset, an overclocked version of MediaTek’s D9400 chip.

The phone is expected to retain a 6.67-inch flat OLED LTPS panel with a 1.5K resolution, and it will also feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. However, aside from the new chipset, most of the hardware is expected to remain unchanged from the X200.

If Vivo follows its past strategy, the X200S is likely to remain a China-exclusive device, much like the X100S before it.

5. Vivo X200 Ultra

vivo x100 ultra

Alongside the X200S, Vivo is also preparing to introduce the X200 Ultra, its top-tier flagship for 2025. The device is expected to come with a new Action Button, which will likely serve as a camera button.

The X200 Ultra’s main highlight will be its camera system. It is expected to feature a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. The primary sensor will reportedly default to a 35mm focal length, and Vivo is also including a custom optical system and an in-house imaging chip for improved software-hardware integration.

For video recording, the X200 Ultra will support 4K 120fps video capture across all focal lengths, a move that could challenge Apple’s Pro series when it comes to seamless focal length transitions.

Other expected features include a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 2K OLED quad-curved display, and a 6,000mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

The device is expected to launch by mid-to-late April, potentially alongside the X200S and a new Vivo flagship tablet, the Vivo Pad 4 Pro. Given that its predecessor, the Vivo X100 Ultra, was a China-exclusive, the X200 Ultra may follow suit.

Vivo Y300i specifications

The phone features a 6.68-inch HD+ LCD display with a 1608 x 720-pixel resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset and houses a 6,500mAh battery. As per the 3C certification of the device, it may arrive with support for 44W fast charging. The camera setup includes a 50-megapixel rear sensor and a 5-megapixel front camera. The listing also reveals other features, such as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and NFC support.

Similarities with Vivo Y39 5G

The Vivo Y300i appears to be a rebranded version of the Vivo Y39 5G, which was recently launched in Malaysia. Both phones share identical specifications, except for the front camera, where the Y39 5G has an 8-megapixel sensor. The Y300i is expected to have additional enhancements like NFC and an IR blaster.

Galaxy S25 breaks all previous sales records in Galaxy lineup’s history

Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S25 series, has achieved a remarkable milestone—1 million unit sales in just 21 days in South Korea alone. This marks the fastest sales pace in the history of the Galaxy series, breaking the previous record held by the Galaxy S24 series, which took 28 days to reach the same figure.

The Galaxy S25 series has also surpassed the Galaxy Note 10, which held the record for 25 days, making this the fastest-selling Galaxy lineup.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra - S Pen
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra – S Pen

A record-breaking success

The Galaxy S25 series had already set the stage for success with 1.3 million pre-orders in just 11 days. Samsung attributes this achievement to the series’ improved performance (thanks to the Snapdragon flagship), slim and relatively lightweight design (S25 is just 162g), and the integration of personalized Galaxy AI features.

According to a company survey, the top reason for purchasing the Galaxy S25 series was its performance, including the latest processor and memory capabilities. It’s impressive to see the Galaxy flagships that used to struggle in sustaining heavy workloads now competing head-to-head with the performance-centric flagships.

Image: ETNews

On the surface, the Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 200MP camera and a titanium frame, which accounted for about 50% of total sales. Popular color options included Titanium Silver Blue and Titanium White Silver for the Ultra, while the Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 saw high demand in Ice Blue and Silver Shadow.

Interestingly, all models of the series retain most of the design choices and specifications of their predecessors. While the new chip is more capable and more efficient, its the same for its competitors, such as the OnePlus 13.

The Ultra model does have rounded corners, and the camera modules look bigger this time due to the external metal ring. But most of the sensors inside have been there for over two years.

While most of Samsung’s competitors on the Android side have adopted the Si/C battery tech, Samsung didn’t even upgrade the battery capacity for its newest models. That said, the few design tweaks and the new chip might not be the sole reason for this sales record.

Innovative subscription program could also be a contributing factor behind the success

Samsung’s New Galaxy AI Subscription Club also reportedly played a significant role in driving sales. This program, available for self-pay models, offers a 50% residual price guarantee after one year of use and includes Samsung Care Plus benefits. The program proved particularly popular among younger consumers, with 60% of subscribers in their 20s and 30s.

Nothing Phone (3a) series teased at MWC 2025: chipset and design confirmed hours before launch

The highly anticipated Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro are set to debut on March 4. But ahead of the launch, Nothing has given fans one last glimpse of the devices. Showcased at Qualcomm’s booth at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, the phones confirmed their design and highlighted their Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, which promises a balance of performance and efficiency.

A focus on cameras

Nothing’s co-founder, Akis Evangelidis, emphasized “big upgrades in the camera department” during the event. According to a previous teaser, the camera setup of the (3a) Pro includes a 50MP “Shake Free” main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP telephoto camera with a periscope lens, an 8MP Sony-made ultrawide lens, and a 50MP front camera.

According to a previous rumor, the periscope telephoto offers 3x optical zoom, 6x in-sensor zoom, and an impressive 60x “ultra” zoom capability. Nothing has so far offered only two back cameras – main and ultrawide – and it’s good to see the pro model include a periscope telephoto, which, paired with the 3x optical zoom, also suggests that the sensor size is reasonably large.

For the sake of comparison, Samsung is still using the age-old 1/3.52″ (10MP) sensor for the 3x telephoto in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The other models of the series pack an even smaller 1/1.3.94″ sensor for the purpose. By the way, if you’re interested in Samsung’s achievements in this aspect, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has ranked 24th in DxOMark’s camera test.

Of course, smartphone photography still heavily relies on software processing, with the latest addition being AI. In fact, phones like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra kick in AI enhancement by default as soon as you cross 20x zoom. Nothing is still a relatively new player in the smartphone industry, and it remains to be seen how it will compete with the big players.

That said, you won’t have to wait long to see the full details. The Nothing Phone (3a) series will be officially unveiled today at 10 AM GMT.

Viltrox just dropped a 25mm F1.7 lens that’s perfect for travel and street photography

Viltrox has unveiled the AF 25mm F1.7 Air, a compact, featherweight prime lens designed for APS-C cameras. Available in Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Nikon Z mounts, this lens strikes a compelling balance between portability, performance, and affordability, catering to both photography enthusiasts and content creators.

Viltrox AF 25mm F1.7 Air

Viltrox AF 25mm F1.7 Air Specifications

Viltrox is leaning hard into the concept of “lightweight without compromise.” Weighing just 170g, the AF 25mm F1.7 Air is barely heavier than a smartphone, making it an easy choice for on-the-go shooters. The design ditches unnecessary bulk while maintaining a solid metal mount, giving it a sturdy yet travel-friendly build. The absence of an aperture ring keeps the operation streamlined, with settings controlled directly via the camera body.

With an effective 38mm full-frame equivalent focal length, this lens sits in a sweet spot between standard and wide-angle views. The large F1.7 aperture provides strong low-light performance and creamy bokeh, courtesy of its nine-blade diaphragm. Internally, the lens features a 12-element, 10-group construction, including extra-low dispersion and high-refractive index elements, reducing chromatic aberrations and ensuring sharp, high-contrast images.

Viltrox AF 25mm F1.7 Air

Viltrox has equipped the AF 25mm F1.7 Air with a stepping motor (STM) that delivers smooth, silent, and accurate autofocus. It supports eye and face detection autofocus, making it particularly useful for street photography, portraits, and vlogging. The autofocus system is snappy on supported camera bodies, tracking subjects with ease in both photo and video modes.

For video shooters, minimal focus breathing is a huge plus, preventing distracting shifts in framing during focus pulls. Combined with in-body stabilization from compatible camera bodies, this lens offers smooth, handheld shooting without excessive jitter. The near-silent autofocus also ensures clean audio capture during recording.

Price and Availability

The Viltrox AF 25mm F1.7 Air is now available for purchase at an MSRP of $176 / €189 / £165.

TECNO Day 1 MWC 2025: Ultra Slim Smartphone, Tri-fold, AI, & More

Barcelona was busy today as tech enthusiasts, executives, and brands from all over the world flocked to the halls of Fira Gran Via for Mobile World Congress 2025. Me and my colleague Will went across a lot of booths to get you the best coverage from the event.

We also spent a considerable amount of time at TECNO’s booth (6B11, Hall 6) based on the “Create the AI Future” theme that promises more than just flashy tech, an AI practical for everyday users, especially in emerging markets.

Key Products from Tecno at MWC 2025

The CAMON 40 Series stole the spotlight on Day 1, showcasing some impressive camera capabilities. The “One-Tap FlashSnap” was interesting and helped capture fast-moving subjects with remarkable clarity.

TECNO’s booth also features their foldable phones—the PHANTOM V2 Flip 5G and PHANTOM V2 Fold 5G—which were launched in 2024.

What was the most interesting though was TECNO’s first-ever AI Glasses Series. These aren’t just smart glasses; they’re trying to bring smartphone-level photography capabilities to eyewear.

The Pro version takes things even further with AR display features that hint at a future where our screens might be everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

However, the brand says we’ll get more details on that tomorrow on Day 2.

The Next Generation of Work and Play

The MEGABOOK S14 laptop was another standout at the booth. It is being touted as the world’s lightest 14-inch laptop with a 2.8K OLED display, and manages to pack serious AI functionality into an ultra-portable frame. The Ella AI Voice Assistant onboard offers more than just basic commands—brings contextual understanding in conversations.

Products of the Future

Probably the most interesting part of TECNO’s display was their concept corner.

The SPARK Slim showed off an ultra-slim profile in a beautiful silver design, while there was also the tri-fold PHANTOM Ultimate 2 with a tablet-sized screen that could fit in your pocket.

The Tecno Spark Slim is extremely thin at 5.75mm but doesn’t cut down on battery life since it features a healthy 5200mAh capacity one inside. I remember the older super slim smartphones like the vivo X3 could only feature a 2000mAh battery in such a slim form factor. It didn’t make sense back then given the battery cost, but today, 10 years later, 5.75mm with a 5200mAh battery sounds like a good idea.

The tri-fold was also an important highlight of the booth, featuring a beautiful, large tablet-sized device that can be folded into your pocket.

What’s Next

We are waiting for more details on the glasses, the CAMON 40’s Tecno AI, and the MEGABOOK S14, which should likely be unveiled tomorrow.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra ranks 24th in DxOMark’s camera test

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, despite topping DxOMark’s display rankings, has secured the 24th position in the platform’s camera test with a score of 146. The Galaxy flagship falls short of leading competitors like the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra (163 points) and the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and Honor Magic 6 Pro (158 points each) in numerous aspects.

Strengths and weaknesses of the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera

DxOMark praised the Galaxy S25 Ultra for its strong zoom capabilities, where it retains reasonably good detail. The device also excels in exposure and dynamic range management in bright light conditions, which ensures well-balanced photos and videos. Skin tones appear natural in simpler scenes, and video color rendering remains authentic, with a neutral white balance in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Galaxy S25 Ultra – slightly underexposed (Image: DxOMark)

However, several aspects of the camera managed to disappoint DxOMark. This device reportedly struggled with autofocus instabilities and exposure adaptation in video mode, leading to inconsistent performance. Noise is another downside of this phone, which becomes noticeable in low-light situations, both for photos and videos.

High-contrast scenes in low-light only make the situation worse—shots sometimes exhibit white balance casts. Additionally, the bokeh mode fails to activate sometimes, which makes the camera system less reliable than many of its competitors. Check out all the pros and cons in the image below.

The brand only upgraded the ultrawide this year, while most of the smartphone makers from Chima aimed to fit the latest and best imaging hardware in their flagships. On the other side, Samsung is still using the age-old 10MP, 1/3.52″ sensor for the 3x telephoto. The relatively new 5x telephoto and the main sensor are also quite small as compared to the ones inside the flagships from China, which kinda explains the noise problem.

Samsung introduced its ALOP lens tech last year, which reportedly makes it easier to fit larger sensors inside the phone without increasing the protrusion of the camera module. It remains to be seen how soon Samsung’s smartphone decision adopts the tech for their Galaxy flagships. We hope it happens soon, as it will not only benefit the Galaxy flgships but will also increase the competition for all brands in the space.
