Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra: Full specifications, official images leaked this week’s launch

Asus recently confirmed that the Zenfone 12 Ultra will launch globally on Feb. 6. A recent teaser offered a glimpse of its front design, revealing new AI-powered features such as real-time call translation. The teaser also confirmed the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack, a rarity in modern flagships. Speculations suggest that the device might share its core hardware with the ROG Phone 9 Pro but without gaming-centric features. Now, a fresh report from WinFuture.de has revealed the phone’s complete specifications along with official renders. Read on to find out whether it is truly a repackaged ROG gaming phone or something different.

The Zenfone 12 Ultra sports a premium build with a distinct design, setting it apart from Asus’ gaming series. While it shares a similar form factor with the ROG Phone 9 Pro, the camera module is significantly redesigned, featuring imprinted texts, such as 50MP, OIS, and gimbal stabilization.

Unlike the aggressive aesthetics of ROG devices, the Zenfone 12 Ultra opts for a more refined look. It will be available in multiple colour options, although exact details remain unknown. Additionally, the flash module placement differs from the ROG counterpart, making it visually unique. The leaked images show that the device will be available in black, green, and pink shades.

Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra (specifications)

The Zenfone 12 Ultra features a 6.78-inch Samsung LTPO OLED display with 2400 x 1080 FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, which can reach 144Hz in gaming scenarios. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 8GB or 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 4.0 storage.

In the camera department, Aus has equipped the device with a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-700 sensor featuring hardware-based gimbal stabilisation. It is accompanied by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom and OIS. The 32-megapixel front-facing camera remains unchanged from the ROG Phone 9 Pro.

A 5,500mAh battery fuels the Zenfone 12 Ultra, supporting 65W wired charging and 15W Qi wireless charging. The Zenfone 12 Ultra runs Android 15 out of the box and integrates AI features to enhance photography and video recording. Impressively, it retains a 3.5mm headphone jack despite having IP68 dust and water resistance.

How similar is it to the ROG Phone 9 Pro?

The Zenfone 12 Ultra is largely based on the ROG Phone 9 Pro, sharing the same display, chipset, RAM, storage, and front camera. However, it differentiates itself with a smaller 5,500mAh battery (compared to the ROG Phone 9 Pro’s 5,800mAh), a redesigned camera module, and the absence of gaming-specific features like AirTriggers. The focus here is on camera performance and AI-driven enhancements, making it a more mainstream alternative to ASUS’ gaming flagship.

Vivo X200 Pro Mini: Indian variants revealed well before launch

In October 2024, Vivo unveiled the Vivo X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro Mini in India. However, in November, the brand only launched the X200 and X200 Pro in India, omitting the Pro Mini model. At the time, it was speculated that the Pro Mini might never launch outside of China. However, recent developments indicate the Pro Mini may arrive a couple of weeks after the Vivo V50.

Vivo X200 Pro Mini incoming

Recently, tipster Abhishek Yadav claimed that Vivo will launch a new X-series phone in April 2025 in India. This led to rumors that the brand may launch the X200 Pro Mini or the upcoming X200 Ultra in the country.

Now, a report by SmartPrix claims that the company plans to launch the X200 Pro Mini in the second quarter of this year. The report also claims that the device will be available in two options: 12GB+256GB and 16GB+512GB.

To recall, the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro Mini were priced at 4,299 Yuan and 4,699 Yuan, respectively, in China. The X200 with the same configuration is available for Rs 65,999. Therefore, it is likely that the X200 Pro Mini could be priced at Rs 74,999 for the base model.

Vivo is unlikely to reveal any information about the X200 Pro Mini, as it is reportedly scheduled to launch the Vivo V50 on Feb. 18 in India. The official teasers of the X200 Pro Mini may likely be by the end of the first quarter.

The Vivo X200 Pro Mini has a 6.31-inch AMOLED LPTO 1.5K 120Hz screen, a Dimensity 9400 chip, LPDDR5x RAM, UFS 4.0 storage, and a 5,700mAh battery with 90W wired and 30W wireless charging support. It has a 32-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel (main) + 50-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 50-megapixel (3x periscope telephoto) triple camera setup.

Samsung’s tri-fold phone name leaks and it hints at a bold new design

Samsung teased its upcoming tri-fold smartphone at the recent Galaxy S25 Unpacked event, revealing only a silhouette of the device. It was a subtle hint, with no additional details provided.

However, tipster yeux1122 has now shared on Naver that the foldable will be called the “Galaxy G Fold.” According to the leak, the device could launch as early as Q3 2025, making it one of Samsung’s most ambitious foldable projects yet.

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design Tri-fold Display

Samsung Galaxy G Fold Specs (Expected)

The leak also says that the Galaxy G Fold is expected to feature a 9.96-inch display, which is nearly 30% larger than the 7.6-inch panel on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. When folded, the device reportedly measures 6.54 inches, making it similar in height to conventional smartphones. While it is said to have a weight comparable to Huawei’s Mate XT, it might be slightly thicker due to its inward-folding design.

Unlike previous foldables from Samsung, the Galaxy G Fold is rumored to introduce a G-shaped folding mechanism, where both sides of the screen fold inward. This design choice is expected to offer better protection by preventing the display from being exposed when closed, unlike Huawei’s Mate XT, which features an S-shaped fold that leaves part of the screen vulnerable.

Samsung is also said to be developing a new type of display and protective film specifically for this device, further enhancing durability. Given the complexities involved in manufacturing such a foldable, production volumes are expected to be limited, and the device could be positioned as an experimental, high-end offering rather than a mainstream flagship.

While some reports initially suggested a 2026 launch, display analyst Ross Young has indicated that Samsung may release the Galaxy G Fold sooner, possibly in late 2025 alongside Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.

However, pricing remains uncertain. Considering Huawei’s Mate XT launched at nearly $2,800, Samsung’s tri-fold device could also carry a premium price tag exceeding $2,000.

Would you switch to this E-Ink QWERTY smartphone for a simpler digital life?

Minimal Phone, a smartphone featuring an E-Ink display and a Blackberry-like physical QWERTY keyboard, has officially begun shipping after surpassing its crowdfunding goal. Initially introduced last year, the device raised over $600,000 through an Indiegogo campaign. Those who missed the original crowdfunding phase can still purchase it for $399, with new orders expected to ship starting in March.

Minimal Phone

Minimal Phone Specifications

This device stands out in a market dominated by large, high-refresh-rate OLED screens. Instead of catering to multimedia-heavy users, it offers a minimalistic and distraction-free experience with a 4.3-inch black-and-white E-Ink touchscreen. Unlike traditional smartphone displays, E-Ink panels consume power only when refreshing, making them an excellent choice for extended battery life.

The phone runs on a customized version of Android 14 and provides access to the Google Play Store, allowing users to install third-party applications. However, the nature of E-Ink technology means that some apps may not perform as smoothly as they would on a conventional display.

The Minimal Phone is powered by a MediaTek G99 processor and comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It also features a microSD card slot which allows for further expansion.

Minimal Phone

The phone comes with a full QWERTY keyboard that adds to its appeal for those who prefer tactile feedback while typing. The keyboard consists of 35 keys, including a customizable hotkey, and features a 0.15mm key travel for a responsive typing experience.

In terms of photography, the phone includes a 16MP rear camera with LED flash and an optional 5MP front camera. The device is equipped with a 3,000mAh battery, which, thanks to the low-power E-Ink display, can last multiple days on a single charge. It supports both 18W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging.

The Minimal Phone is available in three colors: Pebble, Onyx, and Fusion. It features a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB-C charging port. In terms of connectivity, it includes 4G LTE, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC, though 5G support is absent.

Huawei rumored to launch Band 10 and hook-style earbuds in March

Huawei could soon expand its wearables lineup as a new leak suggests that the company could launch the Band 10 fitness tracker and new ear-hook-style earbuds in March. While the Chinese tech giant has not officially confirmed the release, several sources on Weibo hint at these upcoming products.

Huawei Band 10 and Arc earbuds launch expected soon

According to tipster FixedFocusDigital, Huawei might unveil these devices next month, though there’s also speculation that the release could be pushed to April. Another source suggested that the Band 10 and ear-hook earbuds might debut alongside the Pocket 3 foldable smartphone.

The Band 10 has already surfaced on global certification databases, hinting that it could be ready for market entry soon. Certification details suggest the fitness tracker may come in two variants and feature an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

As for the ear-hook earbuds, codenamed “Arc,” they could be a new form of earbuds in Huawei’s audio lineup. Unlike the existing FreeClip’s C-shaped design, the new form factor may prioritize convenience and better fit for users. Although the official name has yet to be confirmed, the earbuds may debut as “FreeArc.”

Huawei Band 9 Specifications

While details on the Huawei Band 10 remain under wraps, let’s take a moment to revisit what the Band 9 brings to the table.

The Huawei Band 9 sports a 1.47-inch HD AMOLED display with a 2.5D curved glass design, offering a resolution of 194 × 368 pixels and a crisp 282ppi pixel density. It also supports an always-on mode for at-a-glance convenience.

Huawei-Band-9-Launch

On the hardware front, the Band 9 is packed with a 9-axis IMU sensor, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer, alongside an optical heart rate sensor and an ambient light sensor.

For health tracking, Huawei’s TruSeen 5.5 delivers heart rate monitoring, while TruSleep 4.0 provides advanced sleep tracking. The Band 9 also includes stress management through TruRelax and menstrual cycle tracking for women. Fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of 100 workout modes, with automatic detection for four common exercises.

Connectivity is handled via Bluetooth 5.0, ensuring compatibility with Android 8.0 and above, as well as iOS 13.0 and later. The device is rated 5ATM for water resistance, making it suitable for swimming and underwater use up to 50 meters.

One UI 7.0 is here! Prepare your Samsung Galaxy for a smooth upgrade

Samsung One UI 7.0 update

One UI 7.0 is the biggest upgrade for Samsung devices in over half a decade, and that’s why the development stretched more than usual. It was released alongside the Galaxy S25 series at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 last month. This also means we had no major One UI releases in 2024.

Samsung announced the One UI 7.0 beta program in early December 2024, which has surprisingly remained exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series, so far. The stable build, however, will start rolling out to Galaxy devices in the next few days. As always, flagship devices will be the first in line to get the One UI 7.0 treat, followed by mid-range and cheaper models. However, no matter how cheap or expensive your Samsung Galaxy is, you must follow these steps for a smooth upgrade.

Check your device’s update policy

While Samsung offers the best software support among Android brands, every Galaxy device obviously will not be upgraded to One UI 7.0 (based on Android 15). Every device gets a certain number of One UI and OS upgrades. Therefore, you must check the software update policy to see if your device is eligible for the next major upgrade.

We’ve prepared a list of One UI 7 eligible devices in this post

Backup your data

Whenever a major One UI upgrade arrives on my Samsung Galaxy, I don’t rush to hit the download and install button. Instead, I take a complete backup of my data to ensure it remains protected, and I would urge you to do the same.

Although we don’t hear much about instances of an update bricking a device or resulting in data loss, you wouldn’t risk your important data. So, it’s wise to be cautious.

There are multiple ways to backup your data, the easiest being the Temporary cloud backup feature. It uses your internet connection to back up the data on Samsung cloud. The best part is that it’s completely free, and there’s no limit on backup size, although you’ve to ensure no individual files are larger than 100GB. So, you don’t have to be selective about what to back up and what to leave.

There’s one critical thing to remember, though. The backup is stored on the cloud for 30 days, so remember to restore your data before it’s gone.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Open Settings and go to Device care.
  2. Tap Maintenance mode and choose Temporary cloud backup.
  3. Click Back up data.

If your backup size is too large, you’d require plenty of internet data, so be prepared for that. Alternatively, you can also backup your data to another smartphone or computer using Smart Switch or transfer your files to a PC via a USB cable.

Update all apps and software

Samsung updates its apps to include One UI 7 compatibility. Most of them are released even before the One UI 7 update hits your device. Installing those updates is recommended to ensure they will work smoothly after upgrading to One UI 7.

Remember to check for updates after installing the One UI 7 update, as some may arrive after the upgrade. Most Samsung apps can be updated via the Galaxy Store, and some via the Google Play Store.

Also, make sure that your Samsung Galaxy doesn’t have pending updates. To check for updates, go to Settings > Software updates and tap Download and install.

Free up storage space

Major updates like One UI 7.0 can be quite large, a few gigabytes in size. If your device doesn’t have sufficient storage, the download might fail, and sometimes, the installation, too.

It’s recommended that you should have at least 5-10GB of free internal storage. It also benefits the overall performance of the device.

The battery should be above 30%

Major One UI upgrades might take longer to finish the installation. Charging to 30% (at least) will ensure that it won’t run out of juice during the installation, which can potentially lead to issues like a corrupted installation, missing files, or unstable software.

Playing too safe? Check others’ experience first

Stable builds aren’t guaranteed to offer an utterly bug-free software experience. There can still be some bugs, sometimes severe bugs as well, which can break apps or functionalities.

If you aren’t in a hurry and want to see if the update has any critical bugs, don’t hit the download button. Instead, explore the Samsung Community and Samsung’s subreddits on Reddit to read others’ reviews for the same device and build. You can then decide whether to install the update or wait for a more stable build.

One UI 7.0 is a pretty significant upgrade that brings a host of awesome features and improvements. We’ve detailed its top features in this article.

Apple is nearing decision on foldable display partner, report suggests

Apple‘s long-rumored entry into the foldable phone market may be drawing closer.  A recent report suggests the company is in the final stages of selecting a display supplier for its anticipated foldable iPhone.

While Samsung and Google have already released multiple foldable phones, the Cupertino giant has remained characteristically patient with its foldable iPhone. However, behind-the-scenes work appears to be steadily ongoing.

Apple could soon finalize its foldable display partner

According to a new report from Naver’s “yuex1122,” the tech giant is in the final stages of selecting a display supplier for its foldable iPhone. The company will reportedly decide by late February to early April.

The company reportedly has stringent technical requirements for suppliers, including improvements in durability and crease prevention—issues that continue to plague current foldable models. Apple is said to be evaluating domestic manufacturers who have made significant progress in meeting these demands.

Foldable-iPhone-Concept

There are indications that Apple might follow Samsung’s strategy by offering two types of foldable iPhones: a clamshell-style model akin to the Galaxy Z Flip and a larger tablet-like version similar to the Galaxy Z Fold.

However, the exact timeline for the launch remains uncertain. A well-known industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously noted that Apple’s foldable iPhone is still in the planning phase and could launch between 2025 and 2027.

Likewise, recent rumors from The Information suggest that Apple could debut a clamshell foldable iPhone in 2025. Beyond smartphones, the company is reportedly exploring foldable displays for MacBooks. A previous report suggests that the laptops could feature a display size of around 19.5 inches, although specific details remain scarce.

Apple’s late entry into the foldable market contrasts with Samsung’s dominance and Google’s recent launch of the Pixel Fold. As both companies push forward with distinct designs and technological improvements, Apple’s ability to address durability concerns and minimize display creases will likely be pivotal. How the company differentiates itself in this evolving sector remains to be seen.

4 smartphone brands with the longest software support

Historically, Android hasn’t had a stellar reputation for software updates. Thankfully, this situation has improved significantly over the last five years or so. In 2025, it’s relatively common for Android flagships to receive at least a few years of OS updates and security patches. Even many budget phones now receive at least one OS upgrade.

With consumers holding onto their devices longer, timely operating system (OS) updates and security patches have become a key consideration when purchasing a smartphone.

While not all brands are equal in their commitment, several have stepped up their game, matching or even exceeding Apple’s historically strong update policies. Let’s break down which brands offer the best software support in 2025.

1. Google

Google Pixel 9 Series

The Pixel series leads Android in software longevity. With the Pixel 8 series, Google promises seven years of Android OS updates, security patches, and feature drops—a level of support unmatched even by Apple.

What makes Google’s approach particularly impressive is its retroactive support for older models like the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7, which have also been granted an additional two years of Android updates. With timely and consistent rollouts, Pixel phones remain one of the best choices for users seeking long-term software support.

2. Apple

iPhone-16-Series

Apple has long been the benchmark for consistent software updates. Even during Android’s early years of fragmented support, Apple regularly provided at least three major OS updates for its devices. By the time the iPhone 6 launched, five years of updates had become standard.

However, Apple has never explicitly guaranteed update timelines for its smartphone. Some might receive longer updates than we expect them to. For instance, the iPhone 6S launched with iOS 9 and continued receiving updates until iOS 15, far surpassing expectations.

However, following regulatory pressure in the UK, Apple for the first time confirmed that the iPhone 15 Pro will receive at least five years of updates. That’s the bare minimum though. Apple often exceeds this commitment, supporting older models as long as hardware limitations do not hinder performance.

3. Samsung

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra - S Pen
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra – S Pen

Samsung and Google are on a level playing field when it comes to update commitments for flagships. Samsung also promises seven years of OS upgrades and security patches for the Galaxy S24 series and newer devices, including the Flip, Fold, and Galaxy Tab S10 models.

While its flagship lineup benefits from this long-term support, some Galaxy A-series budget models are also guaranteed to receive six years of updates—better than the flagship update policies of many rival brands.

More importantly, Samsung rolls out updates timely manner, whether for its flagships or budget models, making it a better Android brand if you care about software updates.

4. Fairphone

Fairphone 5

Fairphone has built its brand around sustainability and long-term software support. The Fairphone 2, released in 2015, received updates for over seven years—a rare feat in the Android world.

The newer Fairphone 5 offers five years of OS updates and eight years of security patches. The company even claims it will try to extend security patch updates to 10 years if things work in their favor.

However, Fairphone’s update schedule isn’t as predictable as other brands, with inconsistent OS releases and patch updates despite the long support window.

5. The Industry Still Has Room to Improve

Despite the advancements by Google, Samsung, and Apple, other brands have room for growth. Xiaomi, OnePlus, and OPPO are yet to make enough progress, while companies like Motorola still struggle to deliver consistent updates to even its flagship phones.

All in all, Google and Samsung currently lead with its seven-year update commitment, making it the best choice for users prioritizing long-term software support. Apple remains a reliable and consistent option, particularly for those already invested in the iOS ecosystem.

Galaxy A56 may bring “Awesome Intelligence”, but will be harder to repair

Samsung’s Galaxy A56 is on the horizon. Samsung recently trademarked the term “Awesome Intelligence” in Europe, the US, and South Korea. It hints at some new AI features coming to the Galaxy A series, with the A56 being the first to benefit.

The Exynos 1580 chipset (which will power the device) is also reportedly more than capable to handle at least the basic ai functions such as on-device text summarization and basic photo editing like object eraser.

Samsung Galaxy A55
Samsung Galaxy A55

According to GalaxyClub, Samsung will be offering six years of Android updates for the A56, making it the most sustainable Galaxy A phone yet. It’s a big deal for anyone who likes to hold onto their phone for a while.

The upcoming A series devices are expected to launch around mid-March 2025. As for pricing, it’ll probably stay in the same ballpark as previous models. So expect something between €450 and €500 for the base version.

While it’s shaping up to be a solid mid-range phone, there’s one little catch: it’s slightly harder to repair than its predecessor, the Galaxy A55. According to France’s repairability scoring system (yes, they have one of those), the A56 scores 8.4 out of 10, compared to the Galaxy A55’s 8.5. It’s a tiny difference, but it’s there for sure.

What makes it harder to repair?

The score breaks down into different categories. The A56 lost points in the “ease of disassembly” section, scoring 5.0 compared to the A55’s 5.8. This little drop brings the A56 back to the same level as the Galaxy A54, which also scored 8.4 in the test.

Fun fact: the Galaxy A36, which is launching around the same time as the A56, also scores an 8.4. So the internal structure could be very similar if not identical between the two devices. Last year’s models also look almost identical to each other.

Galaxy Z Flip7 and Fold7 will indeed come with Exynos 2500, hints Samsung

The Galaxy Z Fold7 was recently tipped to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. But the tipster didn’t reveal the chipset of the upcoming flip phone. Thankfully, Samsung‘s System LSI division itself has now taken the initiative, stating in its earnings call that it is optimizing the Exynos 2500 chip and “aiming to secure design wins for mobile models scheduled for release in 2H.”

Upcoming foldables may indeed use Exynos 2500

This is the release timeline of Samsung’s Z series devices. So, definitely, the Exynos 2500 will power one of the upcoming foldables. Given the recent rumor of Galaxy Z Fold7 getting the Snapdragon 8 Elite, it seems that the flip phone will be the one to showcase Samsung’s achievements with its latest in-house AP this year.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6

And yes, the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Z Fold7 is still a rumor. So it’s still possible that both the high-end fold and flip phones will equip the company’s in-house chip.

For those wondering, there’s indeed another device rumored to be in the pipeline this year: the Galaxy Z Flip FE. According to previous rumors, this one is expected to be powered by the Exynos 2400e chip, which powers the Galaxy S24 FE. This chip is essentially a 100MHz underclocked (performance core) version of the Exynos 2400, and based on what we have seen so far, it performs almost on par with the flagship Exynos 2400. So the difference in raw performance between the Z Flip7 and Z Flip FE will basically be the improvements Samsung has managed to make with the 3nm process node.

Pre-order Samsung Galaxy phones now & get up to $1,250 off + a chance to win $5,000 credit (US only) – https://howl.link/erlejlgnge89i

That said, there’s not much information available on how much improvement Samsung Foundry or System LSI has managed to achieve with the new chip. We just hope Samsung continues the trend of the last two years and once again offers something that doesn’t lag too far behind the Snapdragon chip in performance.

Google Pixel 9a spotted on EMVCo Website ahead of rumored March launch date

The Google Pixel 9a’s release appears imminent following an EMVCo certification. The listing confirms the device’s model number as GTF7P (codename TG4). Unsurprisingly, the Pixel 9a will ship with Android 15 pre-installed, following the Android 14 debut on the Pixel 9 series last August.

Recent leaks suggest an earlier-than-expected launch, potentially in March, with availability by month’s end. The anticipated starting price is $499 for the 128GB storage variant, mirroring its predecessor.

Rumored specifications include a 6.285-inch FHD+ OLED display with up to 2,700 nits peak brightness. The camera setup is expected to feature a 48-megapixel primary lens with OIS and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens. A 13-megapixel Sony IMX712 front-facing camera is also anticipated for selfies.

The Pixel 9a is also rumored to utilize the Tensor G4 chip, LPDDR5x RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. A 5,100mAh battery with 23W wired and 7.5W wireless charging is expected. Other potential features include a Titan M2 security chip, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

In other news, the next-gen Pixel 10a might see a significant chipset downgrade. While the Pixel 10 series is expected to feature the TSMC-made Tensor G5, Google is reportedly considering using either a custom version of the G5 or the older Tensor G4 for the Pixel 10a. If the G4 is chosen, the Pixel 10a would be the first A-series phone with a year-old chipset, potentially limiting AI and camera features tied to the G5.

Vivo X200 Pro Mini Rumored for India Launch in April 2025

Vivo appears to be performing well in India, with a recent report indicating that it surpassed Samsung and Xiaomi to become the top smartphone brand in the country (by sale volume) during Q4 2024. The company currently offers two flagship models in the region, the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro. Meanwhile, according to Abhishek Yadav, Vivo is preparing to introduce another device in its “X” series in April.

While the exact model remains undisclosed, speculation points towards the X200 Pro Mini. This device was initially launched in China alongside the X200 and X200 Pro but was not released in global markets, including India.

Another possibility is the upcoming X200 Ultra, though its chances of launching in India seem low, as past Ultra variants in the X series have typically remained exclusive to China. The upcoming X200S is also in the same boat. Given this trend, the X200 Pro Mini appears to be the most likely option for an Indian release.

Vivo X200 Pro mini launch specifications price

The device has yet to appear on the BIS certification database, however, with the rumored April launch approaching, its certification listing is anticipated soon. As for specifications, we expect the alleged X200 Pro Mini Indian model to be similar to the Chinese model, of which you can check out the specs below.

Vivo X200 Pro Mini features (Chinese model)

The X200 Pro Mini features a compact 6.31-inch flat display with an LTPO 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor, developed in collaboration with Vivo. The device is equipped with a 5,700mAh battery, supporting 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging.

Its camera system includes a triple rear setup with Zeiss optics and Vivo’s V3+ imaging chip, the same one used in the X100 Ultra. The main camera features a 1/1.28-inch Sony LYT-818 sensor with a custom f/1.57 lens. While smaller than the 1-inch sensor in the X100 Pro series. A key highlight is the 200MP Zeiss APO telephoto camera from the X100 Ultra, offering 3.7x optical zoom with an f/2.67 lens. The setup is completed by a 50MP ultrawide sensor and a 32MP selfie camera with autofocus.

UC Berkeley researchers managed to replicate DeepSeek AI for only $30

AI research is usually a game for big tech companies with deep pockets. However, a team at UC Berkeley just flipped the script. They have replicated the core abilities of DeepSeek R1-Zero for just $30 (not a typo). Their project, called TinyZero, proves that advanced AI reasoning models don’t have to cost a fortune. Not to mention, AI research is becoming more accessible than ever.

Led by Jiayi Pan, the researchers aimed at recreating DeepSeek’s reasoning model using reinforcement learning (RL). Instead of relying on expensive cloud services or massive compute power, they trained TinyZero with a basic language model, a simple prompt, and a reward system.

DeepSeek

Pan shared his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “You can experience the ‘Aha’ moment yourself for < $30.” He also described TinyZero as the first open reproduction of reasoning models, highlighting how it learned to verify and refine its own answers.

How TinyZero was developed

To test the model, the researchers used a game called Countdown, where players have to reach a target number using basic math operations. While at first, TinyZero guessed randomly, over time, it learned to verify its answers, search for better ones, and adjust accordingly.

They experimented with different model sizes, from 500 million parameters to 7 billion parameters. The results? Smaller models (0.5B parameters) just guessed answers and stopped. Larger models (1.5B+ parameters) learned to self-verify, refine solutions, and significantly improve accuracy.

What makes TinyZero truly impressive is how cheap it is compared to traditional AI models. Just look at these costs:

  • OpenAI’s API: $15 per million tokens
  • DeepSeek-R1: $0.55 per million tokens
  • TinyZero’s total cost: $30—one-time training cost

This means anyone—not just big tech—can experiment with AI reasoning models without breaking the bank.

Availability

TinyZero is open-source and available on GitHub, so anyone can tinker with it. While it’s currently tested only in the Countdown game, Pan hopes this project will make reinforcement learning research more accessible.

Of course, it’s still early days. “One caveat, of course, is that it’s validated only in the Countdown task but not the general reasoning domain,” Pan admitted. But even with that limitation, the impact is clear: AI development doesn’t have to be expensive. With projects like TinyZero, affordable, open-source AI could be the future.

Vivo V50 Rumored to Cost More Than Predecessor, Key Specs Surface

As per recent reports, Vivo will launch the V50 smartphone in India in February 2025, just five months after the V40’s release. Ahead of the launch, leaked information has revealed the pricing details of the Vivo V50. Tipster Abhishek Yadav suggests that the Vivo V50 will come with a starting price of Rs 37,999, though he expresses some uncertainty, stating it will likely remain under Rs 40,000. This represents a potential Rs 3,000 increase over the V40’s launch price of Rs 34,999.

The tipster also revealed specifications of the V50, which appears to be largely similar to the V40. The device is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor. The dual rear camera setup, featuring two 50-megapixel sensors, is also rumored to be carried over. Similarly, the 50-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies is expected to remain unchanged. The overall design language is also predicted to be consistent with the V40 series.

However, the V50 is tipped to offer improvements in battery capacity and charging speed. A larger 6,000mAh battery is rumored, compared to the V40’s 5,500mAh unit. Charging speed is also expected to be upgraded to 90W, up from 80W. A surprising addition, according to leaks, could be IP68 and IP69 ratings for enhanced water and dust resistance. These ratings, typically found in flagship devices, would offer increased protection against submersion. While these specifications and price points have surfaced online, Vivo has yet to officially confirm any details. Consumers are advised to treat these leaks with caution until the official announcement.

Most Galaxy AI features could remain free forever—with a catch

Most of what’s new in the Galaxy S25 series is Galaxy AI. And it was rumored that Samsung will charge for Galaxy AI starting in 2026. Now tipster PandaFlash X claims that most of the Galaxy AI features such as the Photo Assist, AI Instant Slow-mo, and Writing Tools will remain free.

Although it was previously written as “free until 2025”, the latest rumor does not mention any specific time, suggesting the features will remain free forever. And it makes sense if you consider the upgrades: Galaxy AI and only a handful of changes in the hardware.

While we are not sure how much Samsung is going to charge for its Galaxy AI, or just how the plans are going to be positioned, we know that the Gemini Advanced subscription (that’s free for the first 6 months for Galaxy S25 series users) is priced at $20/month. The tipster also mentions that Gemini Advanced features are going to be paid.

There’s no word on which specific features depend on Gemini Advanced

So what are you going to pay for or lose after the 6-month free period? Well, Samsung was about as clear on this as it was about the Galaxy S25 Edge. They only showcased the AI capabilities and the quality of life improvements the S25 series will bring to your life, but they didn’t reveal what exact functions require the Gemini Advanced subscription.

“Gemini Advanced comes with our most capable AI models and priority access to the newest features. It will also include ‘Screen Sharing’ and ‘live video viewing’ in the future,” said the VP at ‘Google Gemini Experiences’ at the Galaxy Unpacked event:

That said, it seems like most of the AI features (such as summarization) actually take advantage of the newest model available. Even though you don’t pay for the subscription, the features will continue to function with relatively inferior output.

According to Google Store, Gemini Advanced excels at tackling complex problems with its enhanced reasoning abilities. Some of the more complex queries may not work as well as they will in the first six months, or they may stop functioning altogether. It’s a shame that Samsung left all these questions unanswered on the internet for speculation and analysis instead of addressing them clearly at launch.

Samsung lost its leading position to Vivo in India in Q4 2024; reveals Counterpoint

The Indian smartphone market saw a major shift in 2024, with Samsung losing its leading position to vivo, according to the latest report from Counterpoint Research. Vivo captured 19% of total shipments, while Xiaomi followed closely with 17%, pushing Samsung to third place.

Reason behind this shift

According to Research Analyst Shubham Singh, Vivo’s rise to the top can be attributed to its strong offline retail network and the success of its sub-brand, iQOO. Meanwhile, Samsung’s focus on its premium Galaxy S series led to a decline in the sales volume of its more affordable devices. On the other hand brands like Xiaomi and Vivo kept focusing on offering better value to all price segments, which allowed them to overtake Samsung in Q4 in terms of volume share.

A significant 78% of smartphones shipped were 5G-compatible. It highlights the rapid adoption of next-gen connectivity in India. Not to mention, Chinese smartphone makers like Vivo and Xiaomi have also made significant contributions to this.

Apple remains the market value leader

When it comes to market value, Apple continued to dominate. In fact, 2023’s iPhone 15 is the most shipped device in Q4 2024. Samsung and vivo followed, securing the second and third spots, respectively.

Nothing emerged as the fastest-growing brand. It achieved an impressive 577% growth, which was driven by the success of its Phone (2a) and the launch of the CMF sub-brand. Although it didn’t make it to the 2024 charts, the upcoming Phone (3a) series could further boost its presence in 2025. Here’s why you should wait for the Nothing Phone (3a) series.

On the chipset front, MediaTek outperformed Qualcomm, capturing a record 52% market share compared to Qualcomm’s 25%. This marks a significant milestone for the Taiwanese chipmaker.

For now, Vivo’s leadership underscores the importance of a strong offline presence and a diverse product portfolio in capturing the Indian market.
