Pixel 9a live image confirms a different design for Google’s affordable phone

Following earlier leaks of rendered images, live photos purporting to be the Google Pixel 9a have now surfaced online on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Shared by user @feni_book, the images show both the front and back of the alleged Pixel 9a. The front reveals a familiar design with a centered punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, flat edges, and minimal bezels.

The rear design, however, seems to be a big departure from both its predecessor and the Pixel 9 series. The phone has a boxy chassis with rounded corners, a departure from the curved design of the Pixel 8a

Most notably, the rear camera module ditches the horizontal bar seen on the Pixel 9 series in favor of a smaller, left-aligned pill or oval-shaped layout housing dual camera sensors and an LED flash.

The back panel sports a unique textured design and a logo that differs from the typical Google logo. That’s because it’s not the final product — it’s an Engineering Validation Test unit often used for internal testing before mass production.

The sticker on the phone’s back reveals its IMEI number, which when checked against databases confirms it as a Google device with the model number GTF7P.

What Else Do We Know

The phone is rumored to boast a 6.3-inch display with a 60Hz-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, an upgrade from the Pixel 8a’s 6.1-inch screen. Under the hood, the Pixel 9a might be powered by the same Tensor G4 chipset found in the Pixel 9 lineup that will replace the Pixel 8a’s Tensor G3.

The phone is expected to pack a 5000mAh battery compared to the Pixel 8a’s 4492mAh cell. However, charging speeds might remain unchanged as the rumors point towards the same 18W wired and 7.5W wireless charging. Memory options are expected to mirror the Pixel 8a, with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage.

The camera department might see a downgrade compared to the Pixel 8a’s 64MP main sensor. Leaks suggest the rear will have a 48MP main sensor similar to the one found in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Finally, the Pixel 9a could boast an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, surpassing the Pixel 8a’s IP67 rating.

It’s important to note that these are just leaks, and Google has not officially confirmed any details about the Pixel 9a. With the design seemingly undergoing a shift and potential spec upgrades, it will be interesting to see if these leaks hold true when Google eventually unveils the phone.

Xiaomi 15 Pro and Vivo X200 Pro are flagship smartphones that push the boundaries of innovation. Both feature cutting-edge designs, top-tier displays, powerful performance, and advanced cameras but cater to different user preferences. Xiaomi focuses on raw power, durability, and value, while Vivo emphasizes camera versatility, extreme brightness, and premium features. This comparison explores their key differences and standout features to help you decide which device suits your needs best.

1. Design and Display

Xiaomi 15 Pro
Xiaomi 15 Pro

The Xiaomi 15 Pro and Vivo X200 Pro feature premium designs with durable materials. Xiaomi boasts shatterproof glass and an IP68 rating for water resistance, while Vivo goes further with IP68/IP69 certification, offering better protection against extreme conditions. Both have LTPO AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rates, but Vivo edges out with a larger 6.78-inch screen and a stunning 4500-nit peak brightness compared to Xiaomi’s 3200 nits.

While Xiaomi’s higher resolution (1440 x 3200) offers crisper visuals, Vivo’s 1B colors, combined with Zeiss optics and display tuning, ensure a vibrant and immersive viewing experience. Xiaomi leans toward durability, but Vivo’s display innovations make it a better choice for media enthusiasts.

2. Specifications

Vivo X200 Pro
Vivo X200 Pro

Xiaomi 15 Pro is powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite (3nm), while Vivo relies on the Dimensity 9400 (3nm). With its advanced Oryon cores, Xiaomi’s chipset provides better gaming and multitasking performance. Battery-wise, Xiaomi’s 6100mAh unit slightly outlasts Vivo’s 6000mAh, and its 50W wireless charging is faster than Vivo’s 30W.

However, Vivo offers reverse wired charging and region-specific satellite communication, making it versatile for travelers. Xiaomi is more powerful overall, but Vivo’s balanced specs cater to everyday users better.

3. Camera

Vivo X200 Pro
Vivo X200 Pro

The Vivo X200 Pro takes a bold step with a 200MP periscope telephoto lens for exceptional zoom and macro capabilities, while Xiaomi sticks to a reliable 50MP triple-camera setup with Leica lenses. Vivo offers better versatility for professionals, thanks to Zeiss T* lens coating and 3D LUTs for color grading.

Xiaomi’s camera setup excels in video recording, offering Dolby Vision HDR and 8K at multiple frame rates. If photography is your focus, Vivo stands out; for video, Xiaomi delivers.

4. Pricing

Xiaomi 15 Pro is priced around €690, while the Vivo X200 Pro costs approximately $796. Vivo’s higher price reflects its camera innovations and rugged build. Xiaomi is a better value for performance, while Vivo caters to premium buyers seeking camera prowess.

5. Conclusion

Xiaomi 15 Pro

Unique to Xiaomi is its two-way satellite communication and Snapdragon Sound. Vivo distinguishes itself with Zeiss optics, 200MP telephoto, and broader satellite support. With its raw power, Xiaomi appeals to tech enthusiasts, while Vivo targets creative professionals.

Thinnest iPhone yet? iPhone 17 Air rumored to be 2mm thinner than iPhone 16 Pro

Apple’s 2025 iPhone lineup is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet, with a particular focus on innovation and design. The most intriguing addition is the iPhone 17 Air, a remarkably thin device that pushes the boundaries of smartphone design.

Earlier reports regarding the iPhone 17 Air’s slim profile were conflicting. While some suggested it would be remarkably thin, others speculated it might not meet initial expectations due to battery constraints.

iPhone 17 Slim leak

iPhone 17 Air to Set New Standards in Design

However, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has clarified that the device will indeed be significantly thinner at around 2mm slimmer than the current iPhone 16 Pro. With the iPhone 16 Pro measuring 8.25mm thick, the iPhone 17 Air could come in at an astonishing 6.25mm, potentially dethroning the iPhone 6, which currently holds the title for Apple’s thinnest iPhone at 6.9mm.

As per reports, this dramatic reduction in thickness is made possible by Apple’s custom-designed 5G modem chip, which is smaller and more integrated than previous iterations. By refining the chip’s architecture and optimizing internal components, Apple has managed to free up valuable space inside the device.

In addition to its slim form factor, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display, perfectly bridging the gap between the iPhone 17 Pro’s 6.3-inch and the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 6.9-inch screens. This new size offers a middle ground for users seeking more screen real estate without the bulk of a Pro Max.

iPhone 17 Air is expected to deliver significant upgrades in display tech, performance, and camera. It’s likely to feature ProMotion technology with a 120Hz refresh rate, an upgraded 48MP camera sensor, and improvements in front camera resolution from 12MP to 24MP.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also expected to launch its first slim flagship smartphone featuring a sleeker design and advanced camera capabilities. The Slim model is rumored to include a 200MP Isocell HP5 primary sensor, two 50MP Isocell JN5 sensors for ultrawide and 3.5x telephoto, and Samsung’s new ALoP lens technology for a thinner camera assembly and enhanced optical performance. The Galaxy S25 series is set to launch in January 2025, with the Slim model potentially arriving later.

As more details emerge, we’ll keep you updated on both Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup and Samsung’s competitive offerings. Be sure to check out our comprehensive iPhone 17 Air roundup to know more about this radical slim iPhone.

Honor X50 unexpectedly outships iPhone 16 Pro Max in China

Canalys’ latest smartphone shipment tracker for Q3 2024 shows that the Honor X50 outsold Apple’s flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max in mainland China.

The Honor X50 secured the third spot with a 2.8% market share, edging out the iPhone 16 Pro Max which landed at number five with a 2.1% share.

The wide price gap between the two devices likely plays a key role in this outcome. As of now, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is priced roughly seven times higher than the Honor X50 in China. The Honor X50’s affordability likely plays a major role in its success.

Priced around $200 in mainland China, the X50 features a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. The front of the device features a 6.6-inch 120Hz 1.5K AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Affordable Honor Triumphs

The X50’s success wasn’t just at the expense of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It also outsold other premium competitors like the Redmi K70 Ultra (also known as the Xiaomi 14T Pro globally), which landed in seventh place with a 2.3% market share.

While Huawei has been aggressively regaining market share in China, only one of its devices made the top 10 – the Pura 70, a recent flagship, managed a sixth-place finish.

Interestingly, the top spot belonged to Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max, capturing 3% of the market. The remaining spots in the top 10 were a mix of affordability and brand loyalty.

Vivo took tenth place with the Y37, while Oppo secured fourth with the A3x, both budget-friendly options. Notably, the iPhone 15 Pro and vanilla 15 found homes in eighth and ninth place respectively, with the iPhone 16 Pro rounding out the list at fifth.

Xiaomi confirms IP69 protection for Redmi Note 14 Pro / Pro+ global version: set for launch on December 9

Xiaomi has confirmed that its upcoming Redmi Note 14 Pro and Pro Plus will launch globally with an impressive IP69 certification, making it one of the few smartphones with such a high water resistance rating. While Xiaomi had initially suggested that the global version of the device would feature an IP68 rating, the company has now clarified that the global variant will indeed carry the IP69 certification.

What does IP69 mean for users?

The IP69 rating means the Redmi Note 14 Pro series can withstand exposure to pressurized jets of water and even submersion in hot water without sustaining damage. This sets it apart from many other smartphones in the market, including Xiaomi’s own 2024 flagship model—the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro.

The global launch of the Redmi Note 14 Pro and Pro Plus is set for December 9, which was launched in China back in September this year.

Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus

Other than the industry-leading ingress protection, the Note 14 Pro Plus boasts an impressive 50MP telephoto camera and the Light Hunter 800 main sensor, alongside 20+ AI features designed to improve the user experience. The phone will also bring a design refresh over the Note 13 Pro series, with a slimmer profile and a squircle camera island placed at the center of the rear panel.

In terms of display, both the Redmi Note 14 Pro and Pro Plus feature a 6.67-inch curved AMOLED screen with a 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The display also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, ensuring an immersive viewing experience. For biometric security, the device integrates an under-display fingerprint scanner, which enhances convenience and security.

The camera system on the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus (Chinese version) includes a triple rear setup. The 50MP main sensor is complemented by a 50MP telephoto lens offering 2.5x optical zoom and a 60mm focal length, as well as an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Notably, according to a previous report, the Note 14 Pro series could be launched globally with a 200MP main camera, similar to its predecessor.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset.

Apple dominates Q3 2024 China sales; Huawei stands as the only domestic rival

In a recent report by Canalys, Apple’s dominance in China’s smartphone market has become even more pronounced. The tech giant secured half of the top 10 best-selling smartphone models in Mainland China for Q3 2024.

Apple captures half of China’s top 10 smartphone sales

The iPhone 15 Pro Max led the charge, followed closely by its sibling models, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15. This impressive performance underscores Apple’s strong brand appeal and the allure of its premium features.

While domestic brands like Honor, Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Huawei managed to secure a spot in the top 10, their market share pales in comparison to Apple’s. Huawei, once a formidable force in the Chinese market, now struggles to maintain its position, with only one model, the Huawei Pura 70, making the list.

Canalys Q3 2024 China smartphone report

Despite its struggles, Huawei maintains a stronghold in the 4,000-6,000 yuan ($550-$825) price segment, where it remains the top Chinese challenger to Apple’s dominance.

However, its position in the premium market has been severely impacted by ongoing US trade restrictions. As a result, the company has been forced to rely on less powerful, domestically produced chips, limiting its competitiveness in the high-end segment.

Despite these challenges, Huawei continues to enjoy a loyal following in China, with many consumers viewing the brand as a symbol of national pride. By purchasing Huawei devices, they believe they are supporting the development of domestic technology and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.

Last month Huawei launched its latest Mate 70 series, featuring its fully self-developed HarmonyOS Next operating system. The new OS, free from Android code, aims to rival iOS and Android in China, with the Mate 70 series starting at 5,499 yuan ($756). Huawei also unveiled the Mate X6 foldable smartphone and highlighted AI features as a competitive edge.

However, as Apple’s influence grows and Chinese consumers become increasingly discerning, Huawei’s future in the smartphone market remains uncertain. The company will need to innovate aggressively and find innovative ways to overcome the limitations imposed by the US sanctions to regain its lost ground.

Xiaomi to launch its ultra-slim 5000mAh power bank in India soon

Xiaomi‘s December 9th event in India is shaping up to be a busy one. Alongside the Redmi Note 14 series launch and new audio accessories, a reliable tipster suggests the company might also be bringing its Ultra Slim Power Bank to the Indian market.

The tip comes from Ishan Agarwal, a well-known and reliable source. While he hasn’t confirmed an exact launch date, the power bank will likely debut at the December 9th event. Xiaomi introduced the power bank globally last month, so we pretty much know its specifications. So let’s take a closer look at them.

Xiaomi Ultra Slim Power Bank 5000mAh Specifications

The Ultra-Slim Power Bank has a sleek design, measuring just 10mm thick and weighing 93g. Its compact, card-like shape and metallic finish make it a practical accessory for commuters and travelers.

Its body is treated with NCVM (Non-Conductive Vacuum Metallization) coating. Therefore, it looks like a piece of metal and even shines like one.

The power bank is equipped with a 5000mAh lithium-ion battery and supports 20W fast charging via a USB-C port. The power bank has a single USB Type-C port and ships with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable.

The device also features two-way fast charging, allowing both the power bank and connected devices to charge quickly. Xiaomi claims that it can charge a Xiaomi 14 up to 40% in just 30 minutes and a Xiaomi 14 Ultra to 37% in 30 minutes.

Xiaomi ensures safety with nine layers of circuit protection, including safeguards against overheating, overcharging, and short-circuiting. The power bank is also safe for air travel, allowing it to be carried without regulatory concerns.

Lastly, the accessory arrives with 9 layers of protection. These include temperature, short circuit, reset, input overvoltage, input over-current, output over-current, output over-voltage, battery over-charge and over-discharge, and overcurrent short circuit.

Although the power bank is listed on Xiaomi’s global site, the company hasn’t revealed its price for the global market yet. In China, though, it is priced at ¥129 (~$20), which could offer a hint at its price in India.

Xiaomi introduced the Note 14 series in China a few months ago, So naturally, the global variants are expected to mirror their Chinese counterparts. However, the company will make a few regional adjustments to suit global markets.

Additionally, Anuj Sharma, Xiaomi’s Chief Marketing Officer, recently talked on social media about the series’ evolution. According to him, the new Note series focuses more on delivering a “refined, premium, and long-lasting experience” for customers.

Here’s what to expect from the Redmi Note 14 series globally.

1. Redmi Note 14

The base model of the Redmi Note 14 will feature a flat-edge display. That’s a departure from the curved displays seen on its Pro siblings. The rear camera setup will include a 50MP primary sensor with Sony’s LYT-600 sensor and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), along with a 2MP depth sensor.

A welcome detail for audiophiles – the Redmi Note 14 will likely retain the beloved 3.5mm headphone jack. And while Indian specifications haven’t been fully revealed yet, leaks suggest the phone will sport a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The device is expected to be powered by the Dimensity 7025 Ultra chipset, coupled with a 5,110mAh battery for extended usage.

2. Redmi Note 14 Pro

The Redmi Note 14 Pro steps up with a more premium design and improved durability. It features a 3D curved AMOLED display, protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It also offers water and dust resistance, confirmed with an IP68 rating. The camera system is expected to mirror the base model, with a 50MP primary sensor and OIS, though further details remain undisclosed.

In the Chinese version, the Note 14 Pro sported a larger 6.67-inch curved AMOLED display with a sharper 1.5K resolution, while maintaining the 120Hz refresh rate.

It was powered by the Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset and featured an upgraded camera setup, including an 8MP ultrawide lens, alongside the 50MP primary and 2MP depth sensors. The battery capacity was increased to 5,500mAh from its predecessor’s 5100mAh cell.

3. Redmi Note 14 Pro+

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is set to be the flagship of the series. It will likely retain the 3D curved AMOLED display seen in the Pro variant.

Xiaomi has also teased over 20 unique AI-powered features for the phone. While not explicitly mentioning the features here, it could be some useful camera tricks like object removal or something.

The teaser image also reveals the phone’s design with a triple rear camera setup with OIS support.

Similar to the Chinese variant, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is likely to feature the same 6.67-inch curved AMOLED display as the Pro model. However, it will be powered by the more powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor.

The camera system on the back includes a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens. To top it off, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is expected to include the largest battery ever seen in a Redmi Note series, with a substantial 6,200mAh capacity for extended usage.

4. Looking Ahead

Historically, the Indian and Chinese variants of the Redmi Note series have shared similar specifications, and this trend is expected to continue. The Indian models are likely to mirror their Chinese counterparts. All three phones in the series, regardless of the variant, will offer 5G connectivity to meet the growing demand for next-generation mobile data speeds.

Pixel 6 and 7 Series Owners, Rejoice: Google Extends Updates to 5 Years!

Google is making a big change for Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series users by extending software and security updates to five years. Previously, these devices were slated for just three years of OS updates alongside five years of security patches. Now, users will enjoy extended access to new features and enhanced security, making their devices more useful for longer.

This policy update covers key Pixel models. The Pixel 6 series, originally launched in October 2021, will now receive updates through Android 17, with support ending in October 2026. Meanwhile, the Pixel 7 series and the first-generation Pixel Fold will get updates through Android 18, with support running until 2027. Even the budget-friendly Pixel 6a benefits, with updates extended until July 2027, potentially covering Android 18.

This extended support period gives Pixel users peace of mind. It not only boosts the longevity of their devices but also supports a more sustainable approach to technology, as people can comfortably hold onto their phones longer without missing out on key updates or new features.

Regular “Feature Drops” further improve this experience, bringing exciting new tools and improvements between major Android updates. Although not all Pixel devices are part of this new policy—such as the Pixel Tablet, which remains on its original update schedule—this move marks a meaningful step forward for many Pixel users. It’s a win for those who value both functionality and longevity in their tech.

Oppo to launch Oppo X8 Pad as its premium gaming tablet

Oppo’s Find X8 series, which debuted in China last month, has since expanded to global markets, including India. We are now waiting for the top-tier Find X8 Ultra to join the line, but a new leak suggests that Oppo could soon introduce a tablet in its X-line as well.

It’s a bit unusual for Oppo’s flagship phone-focused X-line to include a tablet, but the news carries some weight as it comes from the reliable tipster Digital Chat Station.

An X-series tablet from Oppo?

The tablet will reportedly be named the Oppo X8 Pad. According to the tipster, it is part of the X8 series and is specifically designed as a gaming tablet. Furthermore, the mention of an “X8 series tablet” suggests that Oppo could release multiple variants of the device.

For the Oppo X8 Pad, the tipster reveals that it will feature an 8.8-inch LCD screen with a “customized high resolution” and a “high refresh rate,” complemented by rounded corners for a sleek look.

So it’s a mini tablet with an all-metal body for a premium look and will be powered by the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, the same as the Find X8 and X8 Pro.

While we are short on other details of the tablet or a launch timeframe, Oppo last week launched Pad 3 in China. So let’s look at its specs.

Oppo Pad 3 Specifications

The Oppo Pad 3 features an 11.61-inch 2.8K LCD display with a resolution of 2800 x 2000 pixels, 144Hz variable refresh rate, 700 nits of peak brightness, a 7:5 aspect ratio, and a 480Hz touch sampling rate.

Under the hood, it is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor and pairs that with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. It runs on Android-15-based ColorOS 15.

The tablet is equipped with an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front-facing camera. Oppo equips the Pad 3 with a sizeable 9510mAh battery and supports 67W SuperVOOC fast charging.

OnePlus announces Lifetime Warranty for Display Green Line issue: all you need to know

OnePlus has recently launched a new initiative to tackle the “green line” issue that has been affecting several of its AMOLED display smartphones. This issue has garnered significant attention, especially in India, many users have recently reported experiencing a persistent green line running across their device screens.

OnePlus 8 Pro green line
OnePlus 8 Pro with green line issue

To address this problem, OnePlus has rolled out a three-step program, called the ‘OnePlus Green Line Worry-Free Solution,’ designed to both fix existing problems and prevent future occurrences.

The program focuses on three main areas: improving display structure, strengthening quality control checks, and offering an extended warranty on the display.

The first step in this solution involves the integration of an “Enhanced Edge Bonding Layer” in all future OnePlus AMOLED displays. This new layer uses PVX edge-sealing material, which acts as a barrier to slow down moisture and oxygen penetration into the display. By preventing these elements from reaching critical parts of the screen, this enhanced structure aims to significantly improve the lifespan of the display and reduce the chances of the green line issue arising.

The second step involves rigorous quality control checks, with over 180 different tests being conducted to simulate extreme real-world conditions. These tests include the “Double 85” test, which exposes the display to 85°C heat and 85% humidity for extended periods to evaluate how the screen performs under stress.

Finally, OnePlus is offering a lifetime warranty against the green line issue on all its smartphone models, regardless of whether the phone is within the warranty period. Users experiencing this problem, even if their device is out of warranty, should receive a free display replacement.

The reason why this is a major development

While OnePlus has provided solutions to the issue in the past, what makes this latest announcement noteworthy is its acknowledgment that there was room for improvement in the manufacturing process. It will also be interesting to see if other brands follow OnePlus’s lead and invest in similar efforts to address one of the most frustrating issues with smartphones.

Reasons Why Casio Watches are Better than Smartwatches

While smartwatches have become quite popular in the modern day, it’s easy to forget the reliability and timeless appeal of classic watches. A brand that perfectly encapsulates durability, style, and reliability is Casio. Their watches stand out for their simplicity as well, but they have started embracing modern technology with some of its popular lineups like G-Shock. So now, here are reasons why Casio watches are better than some smartwatches.

1. The Style and Durability

Best Casio G-Shock Watches with Smart Features
Casio G-Shock Mudmaster (GWG1000-1A1)

Casio isn’t a simple one trick pony with G-Shock. There are also Edifice, Oceanus, Pro Trek, and the basic Casio branded watches. What you need to know is that Casio isn’t built only for outdoor enthusiasts, there are options for stylish and elegant watches that carry the iconic designs. You also get watches built for sports enthusiasts as well.

One of the most compelling reasons to choose a Casio watch over a smartwatch is its durability. Casio watches, especially models like the G-Shock, are known for being nearly indestructible (slight exaggeration). These watches are shock-resistant, water-resistant, and built to withstand harsh environments. Meanwhile, smartwatches house various delicate screens and components that are prone to damage from impact or extended exposure to water.

2. Long Battery Life

Casio Watches offers better endurance as well. A Casio analog or digital watch can run for years on a single battery. There are even models with solar powered G-Shock series that can last for months without needing a recharge. There are some variants that offer smart features that require more regular charging, but these still have a higher battery life than most smartwatches. So you avoid the hassle of basically charging another device like your smartphone.

3. Reduced Distractions

One of my biggest issues with smartwatches and all of their innovative smart features is the distractions that they cause. I’m not sold on the idea of having two screens that I constantly look at. Getting the same notification on two screens is basically another smartphone strapped to your wrist. Smart health and fitness tracking features is one of the few things I like about smartwatches, and these are already available on Casio G-Shocks as well.

4. G-Shock Getting Smarter

We recently covered a list of some of the best Casio G-Shock watches that supports smart functionalities. So you’re getting the iconic and tough design with the latest health related trackers. This includes optical sensors for heart rate and blood oxygen level tracking, an accelerometer to count your steps, solar charging, Strava compatibility to track sports activities and analysis, and even GPS tracking as well. So you get the best of both worlds without another screen to distract you.

OnePlus Watch 3 bags FCC certification, confirms significantly larger battery

OnePlus is reportedly gearing up to launch its latest smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 3, which is expected to debut alongside the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R flagship smartphones globally. The OnePlus Watch 3 previously emerged on India’s BIS and China’s MIIT certification platform revealing some key information and the design. Now the wearable has emerged on the FCC certification platform revealing more details head of its launch.

Details from the FCC listing

The OnePlus Watch 3, bearing the model number OPWWE251, was spotted on the FCC website, categorizing it under “Watch.” The certification reveals the dimensions of the OnePlus Watch 3—46.6 x 47.6 x 11.75mm. For context, its predecessor, the OnePlus Watch 2, measures 47 x 46.6 x 12.1mm and features a 46mm case size and a 1.43-inch AMOLED display. So the upcoming watch will be slightly slimmer than its predecessor.

Another notable update from the FCC listing is the inclusion of a significantly larger battery. The OnePlus Watch 3 will come with a 631mAh rated battery (648mAh typical), which is a substantial upgrade over the OnePlus Watch 2’s 500mAh battery. This could potentially lead to improved battery life, which is no doubt one of the most important aspects of any mobile device.

The certification also outlines the connectivity options available on the new smartwatch, which include Bluetooth (BR+EDR+BLE), GNSS, NFC, and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz). The presence of the “EUT” (Equipment Under Testing) label indicates that this is a production-ready unit. Just like the Watch 2, there isn’t any mention of cellular connectivity this time either.

What else to expect from the OnePlus Watch 3

The smartwatch could use the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear W5 SoC, the same chipset used in its predecessor.

The OnePlus Watch 2, which launched at Rs 24,999 in India, came with a range of features including an AMOLED display with 1000nits peak brightness, military-grade durability, and 5ATM + IP68 water and dust resistance. It also supports over 100 sports modes and uses the Snapdragon W5 + BES 2700 dual processors.

4 dumbphones that keep it simple but still support WhatsApp

dumbphones with WhatsApp support

Not everyone needs a smartphone to tell them they are on the correct path or to doomscroll the entire day only to have productivity loss and an adverse impact on mental well-being. The latter is a significantly growing concern in this day and age, and as a result, parents strive to postpone their children’s inevitable entry into the world of smartphones.

Smartphones are powerful than ever. They can do a lot more things than they used to a few years back. However, not everyone needs the bundle of extra features that keep them stick to their devices for the entire day, which is why many people are now shifting to dumbphones. In the last few years, the sale of dumbphones or basic phones has gone up.

While dumbphones allow people commmunicate via SMS, there’s a scarcity of them supporting cross-platform chat apps with group messaging and multi-media support such as WhatsApp. Thankfully, a few good dumbphones can still run WhatsApp while offering a minimalist experience for a digital detox.

1. TTfone TT970

TTfone TT970

TTfone TT970 is an excellent choice for seniors and those looking for a simplified mobile experience without the complexities of a smartphone. It’s a 4G flip phone with dual screens: the outer one measures 1.8 inches, and the inner one is 2.8 inches. There’s also a large dedicated SOS button on the back that can be configured to contact any phone number in emergencies.

The phone runs the Android operating system, and thus is able to support WhatsApp. Some more preinstalled apps are there, such as Facebook Lite, YouTube, Email, and a web browser, which you may or may not like, but it ticks many boxes for anyone seeking a reliable smartphone alternative.

It has an 8MP camera on the back and a very basic, low-quality selfie camera for video calls. This phone also has a voice notes feature to help users set reminders using their voice. The battery is good enough to last for a few days.

The TT970 costs around $160. You can buy it from the official website or marketplaces such as Amazon.

2. Emporia TOUCHsmart.2

Emporia Touchsmart.2

This clamshell-style phone runs Android Go but doesn’t have a Google Play Store or any third-party app store. WhatsApp is preinstalled on this phone, but for those seeking non-Facebook options, Signal and Telegram are also available.

The TOUCHsmart.2 is a compact and lightweight phone for easy portability. While the design resembles an old-style clamshell phone, you don’t always have to use the physical keyboard if you wish to, as the small 3.25-inch screen also supports touch. You can also enable the optional on-screen keyboard when required.

The phone has an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP selfie camera, which are just okay(ish). The battery is also reasonable at 1,400mAh. But these are not the reasons you would buy the Emporia TOUCHsmart.2 for. The most important of all, it has WhatsApp with support for voice and video calls.

In short, the phone delivers on its promise by keeping you connected with minimal distractions. Emporia doesn’t officially ship this device outside of Europe, but there are ways to get it delivered outside that region, and it’ll cost you around $200.

3. Cat S22

Cat S22

The Cat S22 is the strongest flip phone on the list, with MIL-STD-810H durability. It’s also IP68-rated for protection against dust and water. It’s a rugged phone targeting users looking for a durable device for challenging environments while still offering essential smartphone capabilities.

Unlike the two dumbphones mentioned above, this one runs a full version of Android Go with Google Play support. While it opens the door to a world of apps, its tiny 2.8-inch screen might not be ideal for media-heavy apps like TikTok or YouTube. The smaller screen outside shows notifications, time, and the remaining battery.

The Snapdragon 215 chipset, paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, provides enough power to keep the apps running smoothly without significant lag. It ships with a 2,000mAh battery that lasts for a few days on normal usage and even more than on the standby mode.

The Cat S22 costs around $75 on Amazon.

4. AGM M7

AGM M7

The last one we have on the list is AGM M7. Unlike others, it’s not a flip phone but runs Android OS under the hood without the Google Play Store. So, you won’t be able to install anything on this device, but the app you need, WhatsApp, comes preinstalled, alongside some more apps such as TikTok, Skype, and Zello,

The AGM M7 is a rugged phone suitable for outdoor adventures or physically demanding jobs. It’s also IP68-rated for protection against water and dust.

This rugged phone costs $120 and is available globally.
