Back in April, Samsung unveiled the industry’s fastest LPDDR5X RAM with data transfer speeds reaching 10.7Gbps. Now, the chip giant has completed verification of this new memory in collaboration with MediaTek.
Samsung paired MediaTek’s upcoming flagship Dimensity 9400 processor with 16GB of the new LPDDR5X RAM to test the memory speed. According to Samsung, the test process took three months, so quite a long time.
MediaTek is yet to share any details regarding the test or about Dimensity 9400 in its entirety, but it’s now safe to assume that the Dimensity 9400 will be the first chip to support this cutting-edge RAM technology. MediaTek has only confirmed a second-half 2024 release window of the SoC.
Samsung’s new LPDDR5X promises a 25% improvement in both power efficiency and performance compared to the previous generation. The new memory is also touted for improved on-device AI performance for tasks such as voice-to-text generation.
The reach of LPDDR5X might extend beyond smartphones since these chips are finding applications in the automotive industry, particularly for AI-powered features like self-driving cars.
Commenting on the development, JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek, stated, “This collaboration with Samsung Electronics has positioned MediaTek’s next-generation Dimensity chipset as the world’s first to be validated for LPDDR5X speeds. This translates to unprecedented levels of AI functionality and mobile performance. The updated architecture empowers developers and users to leverage advanced AI capabilities and enjoy a wider range of features with minimal impact on battery life.”
It remains to be seen how this new hardware combination translates to real-world performance. As the details on the Dimensity 9400 itself are still under wraps, we will have to wait for the official launch to get a clearer picture of the chipset’s capabilities.

Real-life images of Google‘s entire Pixel 9 series have been revealed. We even got the internal shots of the phones. Google is set to introduce the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold very soon.
Previously, hands-on image of pink Pixel 9 had already leaked. Now, Android Authority team has also managed to uncover photos of Pixel 9 Pro Fold too. Let’s take a first look at the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Pixel 9 Pro Fold features a square camera array. Internal images reveal that it comes with a triple camera setup. Additionally, the outer display’s selfie camera is centered, while the inner display’s selfie camera is positioned at the top right corner.
As we mentioned earlier, Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro had already been spotted on the earlier leaks. However, the new NCC photos provide a comprehensive look at all the phones from every angle. Unlike the glossy finish we’ve seen on previous Pixel models, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a matte finish on the back, similar to Apple’s iPhone Pro lineup. The boxy design of these phones also gives them an iPhone-like appearance. It seems phone manufacturers are gradually shifting away from rounded design language.
Another thing we’ve learned is that there might be an increase in charging speed. Pixel 9 Pro XL could come with 35W charging. While this is not any exciting compared to phones made by Chinese manufacturers, it’s a small improvement over the Pixel 8 Pro with 30Wcharging. We’ve also got some info on the battery capacities. But before diving into that, let’s take a look at the rest of the Pixel 9 series.

Battery capacities
The battery capacities of the Pixel 9 series seem pretty similar to the previous series. In our previously shared article, we mentioned that the regular Pixel 9 is a bit bigger than Pixel 8. Pixel 9 comes with a 4558 mAh battery, while Pixel 8 has a 4485 mAh battery. It’s not a huge difference, but this reveals the slight increase in size is because of the bigger battery. Note that the typical capacity is not what’s used on marketing materials, you can check the battery capacity and compare it with other devices’ battery.

The iPhone 17 series has already entered the conversation before the launch of the iPhone 16 series. The iPhone 17 series was previously expected to come with a 2nm chipset fabricated by TSMC. While this could be great news for the iPhone 17 series this is reportedly not possible due to technological limitations.
The 2nm chips won’t be ready for mass production till the end of 2025
The news comes from Weibo tipster “Mobile chip expert” (translated), who claims that the 2nm chips won’t be ready for mass production till the end of 2025. The tipster further mentioned that the 2nm chips won’t be available until the iPhone 18 series. So it means that the iPhone 17 series will continue to use TSMC’s 3nm process node.
TSMC plans to start mass production of 2-nanometer chips next year, but multiple Taiwanese media reported that the company is accelerating the process to ensure stable output for mass production. Not to mention, Apple is a major customer of the contract manufacturer. The company occupies a significant production capacity of TSMC’s latest process nodes for Apple Silicon and smartphone chips. For example, in 2023, Apple received all of TSMC’s 3-nanometer chips for the production of iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
TSMC’s 2nm process node is expected to provide a 10% to 15% speed increase at the same power consumption, or a 25% to 30% reduction in power consumption at the same speed as compared to the chips fabricated in the company’s 3nm process.
The current A17 Pro chip (that powers the iPhone 15 Pro models) is fabricated on the company’s first generation 3nm process. In contrast, the more recent M4 chip (that powers the 2024 iPad Pro) is built using a second-generation 3-nanometer process node.
Speaking of the iPhone 16 series, code in iOS 18 has confirmed that all four models will use the next-generation A18 chip based on the second-generation 3-nanometer process. This is a shift from the past few generations, where Apple used the last generation’s chip in the non-Pro models of the successor.

Huawei‘s HarmonyOS is expected to expand to PCs later this year, and a recent update on the Huawei Developer website may have offered a glimpse of the software’s user interface (UI) design.
The leak reportedly appears in the Design Guide section of the developer website, showcasing the overall UI and app adaptation for PCs.
The UI design leans towards a clean and minimalistic aesthetic. The status bar, located in the top right corner, displays essential information like time, battery level, network connection, volume, and input method. Notably, the icons are spaced out for better readability.
The Dock bar resides at the bottom of the screen, housing frequently used applications and key functionalities. This layout suggests a potentially simpler and more accessible user experience compared to Windows.
App adaptation is another key aspect of the leaked UI design. The guide reportedly covers various app categories including audio, video, social media, photography, reading, shopping, finance, and more. Applications like Maps and Music appear to benefit from a clearer layout for controls and functions.
The Huawei Developer Design Guide reportedly emphasizes the efficient and immersive experience these apps offer across different devices. The apps are designed to adapt seamlessly to various screen sizes without compromising usability. Examples include Weather, File Explorer, and others.
A noteworthy aspect is the alleged compatibility of the HarmonyOS PC UI with both smartphones and tablets. Additionally, the design bears a resemblance to Apple’s macOS user interface. Overall, the UI seems to prioritize efficient use of space and clear information presentation.
The updated Design Guide also reportedly details how new apps and features can be developed to function effectively in a multi-device environment. It emphasizes responsive layout design for smooth navigation and user-friendly features.
While Huawei hasn’t officially confirmed the launch of HarmonyOS for PCs, leaks suggest a potential release alongside the Mate 70 series in Q4 2024. We can expect further details about the software to emerge in the coming months.
