Apple’s foldable MacBooks & iPhone rumored to launch in the next 2 years

While foldable phones have been around for a while now, Apple is the only major smartphone brand that has yet to unveil its own flexible devices. But a new report has suggested that this might be changing as early as next year.

Apple foldable iPhones & MacBooks are nearly here

According to International Securities analyst Jeff Pu (Via 9to5Mac), Apple is working on two foldable devices. The iPhone 17 Slim was hinted at in one of our earlier reports, and now, the foldable iPhone and a hybrid foldable Mac are also in the works. The analyst claimed that the foldable 20.3-inch device, which could be a MacBook, will enter mass production in late 2025.

Apple Foldable iPhone

Meanwhile, the first ever folding iPhone is rumored to reach the mass production stage in late 2026. This means that the 20-inch device could be launching sometime in either 2026 or 2027. On the other hand, the foldable iPhone may arrive in 2027 or later. The timeline for the announcement is also in line with our previous report.

Apple is apparently to be working on dual display screens and foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid. So the 20.3-inch gadget is likely the foldable Mac/iPad model. But if this report is true, then it appears that Apple is gearing up to unveil a new lineup of products that will target the ultra-high-end segment within just a couple of years.

The back has a 12-megapixel + 13-megapixel dual camera setup, while the front offers a 32-megapixel shooter. Powering the device is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and a 3,800mAh battery that supports 30W wired charging.

Motorola launched the Razr 40 Ultra in June last year, so there’s a chance that its successor could be unveiled next month, in June. However, that is just a speculation on our part. Rest assured, we’ll keep you informed about any new developments regarding the device.

Realme silently launches Buds Air 6 and Air 6 Pro with 50dB ANC, 40 hours of playback, and more

Today, Realme quietly put up the GT Neo 6 for reservations in China without making any formal announcement. Similarly, the company has also revealed the full specifications of its latest earbuds, the Realme Buds Air 6 and Air 6 Pro, on its website.

Realme Buds Air 6 and Air 6 Pro Launch Specs Price

Both models sport a similar design and offer a comparable set of features. Let’s delve into the specifics in this article

Realme Buds Air 6

The Buds Air 6 is fitted with a 12.4mm dynamic driver which Realme claims delivers “shocking bass and clear and bright mids and highs.” The buds also have an “independent bionic back cavity design” for improved mid and low-frequency performance.

The TWS has Hi-Res certification alongside LHDC 5.0 for high-fidelity audio. You also get active noise cancellation (ANC) that can filter noise up to 50 dB.

Realme Buds Air 6

Additionally, the buds offer 4000Hz ultra-wideband noise reduction and “adaptive scene-based noise reduction,” automatically adjusting noise cancellation based on your surroundings.

They come equipped with six built-in microphones featuring AI noise reduction for clearer conversations.

Battery-wise, they offer up to 40 hours of playback with the charging case, while the buds alone can last up to 6 hours on a single charge in ANC mode. The case supports fast charging, providing 7 hours of playback with just a 10-minute charge.

Not to forget, the Buds Air 6 also has a low-latency mode of 55ms for gaming and comes in Serenity Green, Titanium Sky Orange, and Purple colors.

Realme Buds Air 6 Pro

The step-up Buds Air 6 Pro features a coaxial dual-unit design with an 11mm woofer and a 6mm micro-planar tweeter. The Pro model also boasts Hi-Res certification but swaps out LHDC on the base model for LDAC codec.

Other specifics of the Buds Air 6 Pro closely mirror the Air 6. Both offer 50dB ANC, 4000Hz ultra-wideband noise reduction, and adaptive scene-based noise cancellation. They also share the same six-microphone setup with AI noise reduction for calls and a low-latency mode of 55ms.

Realme Buds Air 6 Pro

The Pro model, however, has a slightly higher battery rating of 7.5 hours on a single charge for the buds in ANC mode. The charging case provides a similar 40 hours of playback time and can quickly charge the buds for 7 hours of playback with just a 10-minute charge.

Exclusive to the Pro model is a feature called “3D spatial sound effects,” which improves the users listening experience by creating a more immersive audio environment. The Realme Buds Air 6 Pro comes in Galaxy Titanium and Glacier Silver color.

Pricing and Availability

Although Realme has revealed the specifications of both the Buds Air 6 and Air 6 Pro, the company hasn’t provided any details regarding pricing or availability. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on this.

iPhone going slim? Apple iPhone 17 Slim rumored to replace the Plus

Apple has stuck to a tried and true design philosophy in its recent iPhone generations. The iPhone 15 Pro models brought in premium materials like Titanium, but the overall look remained the same. This trend is expected to continue with future generations as well, but a fresh leak suggests that one of the iPhone 17 models is getting a Slim makeover.

Apple iPhone 17 Slim: Big screen in a sleek body

The news arrives from known analyst Jess Pu (via 9to5Mac), who claimed that the lineup is getting a new family member. Apple is reportedly working on a new iPhone 17 Slim model. This new variant will be replacing the Plus model and taking its place right above the base iPhone 17. Pu claims that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Sim, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature titanium.

The top end iPhone 17 Pro Max will come with a new “metalens” technology for proximity sensors. This would allow Apple to make Dynamic Island smaller in the next gen device without compromising on Face ID. The iPhone 17 Slim will replace the Plus but still offer a larger display than the base model. However, this taller screen will be packed in a thinner and sleeker body. Pu further added that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim may offer 8GB of RAM and either the A18 or A19 chipset.

On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will offer 12GB of RAM and an A19 Pro processor. All four models are expected to offer a 24-megapixel selfie camera as well as an anti-reflective scratch resistance display as well. Keep in mind that this is an unconfirmed report at the moment, so take this news with a pinch of salt.

Watch Tesla’s Humanoid Second-gen Optimus Robot Work with Batteries in the Factory

Tesla‘s Optimus humanoid robot is back in action, and this time it’s tackling a real-world task: precisely inserting battery cells into a tray. The latest video, shared by Tesla on May 5th, showcases the robot’s progress with a neural network trained to interpret 2D camera footage and onboard sensor data. This allows Optimus to directly generate the necessary joint movements for the task.

Tesla also reported that multiple Optimus robots are now being deployed in factories

This isn’t just a one-off demo – Tesla officials report that several Optimus robots are now deployed in their factories, undergoing daily testing and refinement on actual workstations. They’ve even mastered navigating the office environment for extended periods without incident, though achieving higher speeds remains a work in progress.

Tesla Robot

These developments align with Tesla CEO Elon Musk‘s earlier statements. During the first-quarter earnings call, Musk projected Optimus to be capable of completing “useful” factory tasks by year’s end. The company aims to utilize Optimus in their own production facilities before the year is out, with potential sales to external customers by the end of 2025.

Google Maps Prepares for a Redesigned Interface as Testing Begins on Android

Google Maps on Android is prepping for a potential full rollout of a redesigned interface with some key refinements based on user feedback. The revamped design offers a smoother navigation experience by placing the map at the forefront. Many of the formerly fullscreen information panels have been replaced with smaller, translucent windows. This allows users to see a portion of the map in the background while browsing details, providing crucial context. The corners of these info windows now sport a more rounded look, and closing or sharing information is simplified with readily accessible buttons.

The origin and the destination fields now float to the top of the map itself

Another notable change is the way directions are handled. The origin and destination fields now gracefully float on top of the map itself, while transportation mode options have been relocated to the bottom of the screen. This translates to a more map-centric experience.

Google Maps

Google hasn’t officially announced the launch, but the design’s extended testing period suggests a wider rollout is imminent. The update is delivered server-side, so updating the app itself won’t necessarily trigger the new look. Given the months spent in testing, it’s likely that everyone will be navigating with the revamped Google Maps soon. We can also expect a similar visual refresh for Google Maps on iOS in the future.

Samsung dethrones Apple to re-emerge as the global smartphone leader

Counterpoint Market Monitor service quarterly updates the global smartphone market and its latest research is quite illuminating. The 6% growth in shipments is attributable to a strong performance in key regions like Europe, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. Many of the emerging markets sustained their strong momentum to finish the quarter strongly. The region that recorded the most growth was Europe (especially Central and Eastern Europe). Consumer demand overall has been growing gradually and inventory levels continue to improve across the markets.

The smartphone market numbers for Q1 2024 show some emerging trends. The increasing quantum of revenue from premium offerings is growing faster than shipments. This trend should persist with the rise of newer form factors such as foldables and capabilities. Samsung upended Apple to be the leading smartphone shipments (20%) globally. On the other hand, Apple’s shipments declined by 13% YoY due mainly to high inventory buildup in Q4 2023. In the top five, Chinese brand Xiaomi recorded the fastest growth with a 34% increase in shipments YoY.

The performance of some of the brands was stronger in some regions and poor in others. For example, the Transsion brand (Tecno, Itel, and Infinix) performed strongly in Eastern Europe, India, APAC, and MEA while OPPO recorded declines, indicating stiffer competition in several of its markets. Xiaomi however recorded growths in almost all of its key markets. The outlook for the next quarter remains bright and the trend is expected to persist beyond Q2 of 2024.
