Earlier this month, OnePlus and Oppo announced their ColorOS 17 rollout schedule, with the initial devices planned to receive the update on October 29th. However, users have already started to receive the Android 17-based major upgrade with tons of upgrades and new features.

OnePlus 15 gets stable ColorOS 17 update ahead of the schedule

OnePlus has officially confirmed the ColorOS 17 release for the OnePlus 15 via a post on the community forum. The rollout is currently limited to India, which comes with the firmware version CPH2745_17.0.0.102(EX01). For the beta users, the update package is a smaller one — about 540MB, while other users will receive a massive package with over 3.5GB in download size.

If you have a OnePlus 15, navigate to Settings > System & Updates > Software update to manually check for updates if you have yet to receive an update notification.

If you don’t see an update there, try the Release Candidate Program by going to Settings > System & Updates > Software update > Beta Program and tapping the “update now”.

Oppo Find X9 series is also early to the ColorOS 17 party

Alongside the OnePlus 15, Oppo Find X9 series and a couple of other Oppo phones have started to receive the ColorOS 17 update ahead of the scheduled rollout later this month.

Through multiple posts on the official community forum, Oppo has confirmed the ColorOS 17 rollout for these devices:

• Oppo Find X9
• Oppo Find X9 Pro
• Oppo Find X9 Ultra
• Oppo Find X9s
• Oppo Find N6

Initially, the update will be available in limited regions, and will gradually expand to other regions. As for the Oppo Find N6, the ColorOS 17 update is currently available in Thailand, and for the remaining devices, the update is rolling out in India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Oppo is sending updates to both beta and non-beta users. Those who have already installed ColorOS 17 beta should receive a smaller update with a download size just around 500MB, while other users will receive a hefty update, about 3.5GB.

Now, Realme is left to push the ColorOS 17 rollout, which could happen anytime now. We’ll continue to track rollouts and update you on this website.

Samsung has officially named the Galaxy phones and tablets lined up for its Android 17-based One UI 9 update. It gives owners of older flagships and mid-range models a clear idea of what lies ahead. It also hints at how long the wider rollout could take across different markets.

Samsung One UI 9 eligible devices

The confirmed roster comes from Samsung Japan, which says the update will reach devices in that country through October and November 2026. One UI 9 first arrived with the Galaxy S26 series in September and has since landed on several older flagships. While the timeline applies to Japan, the device list itself should hold true for most regions.

Here are the Galaxy smartphones on Samsung’s list:

• Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra
• Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra
• Galaxy S24 and S24 Ultra
• Galaxy S24 FE
• Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra
• Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7
• Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6
• Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5
• Galaxy A57, A55, A54, A36 and A25

The tablets confirmed for One UI 9 include:

• Galaxy Tab S11 and S11 Ultra
• Galaxy Tab S10, S10+ and S10 Ultra
• Galaxy Tab S10 FE and S10 FE+
• Galaxy Tab S10 Lite
• Galaxy Tab S9, S9+ and S9 Ultra
• Galaxy Tab S9 FE and S9 FE+
• Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024)
• Galaxy Tab A11, Tab A11+ and Tab A11 5G
• Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro

The list is not complete, though. Plus variants of the S25 and S24 are missing, as are many Galaxy A phones and regional models, so more names should surface as the rollout continues. Budget devices and units sold outside Japan are expected to get One UI 9 between December 2026 and January 2027.

Hardware failures are no longer a primary reason why most people discard their smartphones. It’s more often the lack of software support that forces users to buy a new one, and the cycle repeats.

After a few years, smartphone brands stop sending major OS upgrades that bring new features and upgrades across the system. Newly discovered security vulnerabilities remain unpatched, putting your data at risk. And modern apps are optimized to work best on newer versions of the operating system.

Even though the official software support ends, modern devices are still very much capable of delivering smooth everyday operations. That’s when custom ROMs play an important role. These are built by third-party developers to extend the lifespan of smartphones by providing regular security patches and new OS releases.

Which are the safest custom ROMs for your phone?

Since these alternative operating systems are built by third-party developers, you can’t just pick any that’s built for your phone. There are dozens of them on the internet, but the two we (and the entire custom ROM community) trust the most are GrapheneOS and LineageOS.

GrapheneOS is an open-source, safe, and highly hardened option available, but it’s exclusively available for Google Pixels due to their strict hardware security standards. LineageOS supports over 170 smartphones across various brands. It’s also a safe, open-source custom ROM with thousands of active developers and millions of users worldwide.

LineageOS 24: Android 17 with optional Google services

LineageOS 24 is the latest version of the popular custom skin built on top of Android 17. It is developed and maintained by an international community with a primary goal to keep smartphones up-to-date longer and give users more controls over their devices.

It’s a clean, lightweight custom ROM that comes without any additional apps, advertisements, and unnecessary services. It generally feels snappier and more responsive than most of the OEM custom skins. Older devices may also benefit from a positive impact on the energy efficiency — especially those who have become increasingly bloated over the years.

LineageOS is great for those who wish to share as little data as possible with Google by not opting to install Google apps and services. But those who need it can install a suitable package.

Not every smartphone is supported

LineageOS doesn’t support every phone and tablet that have stopped receiving official software support. However, it actively maintains builds for most of the popular devices.

The list of eligible devices is quite large, so there’s a chance yours may be included. You can find all supported devices on the LineageOS Wiki. Every device page includes download links, installation guides, and device-specific notes.

Take an extra minute to ensure that the device name and codename exactly match yours. For example, a Galaxy Tab S7 has multiple LineageOS builds based on which variant you carry. Brands often sell multiple versions of a device with different processors.

Important steps before installation

Unlike regular updates, installing a custom ROM requires a little extra care of your data and installation steps as it replaces the entire system software installed on your smartphone.

First things first: perform a complete data backup, including your photos, videos, documents, contacts, and other important data you don’t want to lose. You shouldn’t ignore this, as unlocking the bootloader completely wipes the internal storage.

You may also want to back up your data from apps you’re not signed into. Also back up your 2FA codes from authenticator apps or transfer your accounts to other devices.

Installing LineageOS or any other custom ROM requires an unlocked bootloader. There’s no universal guide on how to do this as the steps vary depending on the device model. Fortunately, the installation guide from LineageOS also includes the required bootloader unlocking steps for the specific device.

Unlocking the bootloader may void your phone’s warranty, and some security features and banking apps may not work. While the warranty issue shouldn’t be a concern on older devices, others are worth finding out in advance.

Installing LineageOS has become a lot easier

Installing a custom ROM used to be a bit complicated, but thanks to the new browser-based Lineage Flash Tools, the process has gotten significantly easier. The new tool handles the execution of commands, which can be intimidating.

Earlier, users had to set up environment paths and download individual platform-specific tools like ADB or Fastboot executables on the PC to run commands. Now, all of them are handled by the Lineage Flash Tools inside a Chromium-based browser like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

Lineage Flash Tools lowers the barrier for beginners. However, it doesn’t handle each and every step. Users still are required to manually download the correct operating system image and unlock the bootloader.

On a compatible browser, open the tool’s web interface and connect your phone over a USB cable. You can also upload the installation files directly to your phone via the browser window.

LineageOS supports a vast number of devices from dozens of manufacturers, and not all of them follow the same installation process. Some devices may require additional steps or packages. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to follow the official installation guide. It tells you about the required files for your device along with download links, unlocking the bootloader, using the correct recovery environment, and additional instructions (if required).

If you carefully follow all the steps, your device should boot LineageOS without any issues. If you ever run into problems during or after installation, ask the official support channels on Reddit, Discord, or the IRC channel (#LineageOS on Libera.Chat).

Need Google services? Follow these steps

LineageOS doesn’t include Google services by default. If you wish to use Google Play Store, Google Maps, or Gmail, you need to install additional Google packages.

One of the most popular and commonly used solutions is MindTheGapps, which has been specially adapted for LineageOS. Download the required package and flash it onto your device.

Alternatively, users can opt for MicroG as a more privacy-friendly option, but mind the tradeoffs.

GrapheneOS: Exclusively for Google Pixels

Another popular name in the Android custom ROM space is GrapheneOS. However, unlike LineageOS, it’s exclusively built for Google Pixel smartphones due to its unique set of hardware-level security features.

GrapheneOS is aimed at users with high data privacy requirements. In fact, it’s considered significantly more secure and private than the stock Pixel ROM.

What makes GrapheneOS different:

• It uses a custom memory allocator (hardened_malloc) that randomizes memory locations and isolating tasks.
• It activates MTE by default for the base OS and allows you to force it on for all user-installed apps.
• It modifies the underlying Linux kernel to block app access to dangerous system calls.
• It allows users to set an alternate PIN or password that, when entered, completely triggers a factory wipe of the phone.
• It allows users to completely disable the data pins on your USB-C port whenever the device is locked to stop physical hacking tools from stealing your data.
• It features a customizable Auto-Reboot timer (ranging down to 10 minutes). If the phone remains locked and untouched for that period, it automatically reboots, wiping the active encryption keys from memory and placing the device in its most secure “Before First Unlock” state.

On a stock Pixel phone, Google Play services run with deeply integrated privileges, which could be a big concern for users’ high privacy requirements. GrapheneOS solves that by making it optional, but still can be used via an isolated environment (sandboxed Google Play).

For installing GrapheneOS, you can either use the WebUSB-based installer (easiest) or the command-line method, which is a little technical. The official guide has all the details you need to know. Follow the steps as per the guide and you should be running GrapheneOS on your Pixel soon.

If you run into any problems, get help from official support channels on Reddit, Discord, or the community forum.

The conclusion is that the end of official software support for a smartphone doesn’t necessarily mean the end of its life. There are great communities on the internet that are actively developing custom ROMs to make such devices last longer with regular security patches and major OS upgrades.

GrapheneOS is the best alternate operating system for Google Pixels, while LineageOS is available for a wider range of smartphones. The new web installer makes the installation easier than ever before.

Soon, the Honor 600 Pro and other number series models will start to receive the update alongside Honor tablets, while the Honor X series models are likely to join the party towards the end of the year, or early 2027.

Sony is into news regarding its Android 17 rollout, but not for good reasons. The company has completely cancelled an Android 17 upgrade for one of its Xperia phones, despite a commitment at the launch. This happens rarely in the smartphone industry.

The unlucky device is the Sony Xperia 10 VI, which was originally promised “three Android OS upgrades.” It’s a mid-range phone launched in 2024 with Android 14, and was supposed to receive Android 17 as the phone’s last major upgrade, but the company has released an apology notice instead of a software update.

Sony says the Xperia 10 VI “does not support an Android 17 upgrade experience that we consider adequate” because of some “limitations related to the device’s storage configuration.” The reason isn’t entirely clear, but the company says other Xperia devices due to receive Android 17 are not affected and security updates will continue on as promised.

Here’s the official statement:

“We announced at launch that the Xperia 10 VI would receive three Android OS upgrades. However, after a detailed technical assessment, we determined that due to limitations related to the device’s storage configuration, the Xperia 10 VI does not support an Android 17 upgrade experience that we consider adequate. Accordingly, we have decided not to make this upgrade available. We recognise that this falls short of our original announcement, and we wish to apologise for this change.

On the other hand, our security update commitment remains unchanged. Sony will continue to provide security updates for four years from the product’s launch date, as previously communicated.

This issue is specific to Xperia 10 VI’s technical specifications and will not impact other Xperia models.”

The Xperia 10 VI was one of the six Sony smartphones that were previously guaranteed to get Android 17. The list has now shrunk to five devices, and all of them have started receiving the update.

We often see smartphone brands delaying update rollouts but cancelling a promised Android OS upgrade for a device is very rare.

After a delayed start to the Android 17 rollout, Samsung has done a pretty good job expanding it to other Galaxy devices at a faster pace. The update is now available for the oldest eligible Galaxy flagships, along with a couple of mid-range and cheaper Galaxy phones.

Currently, these Galaxy devices are getting the Android 17 update:

Galaxy S series

• Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Ultra, S26 FE
• Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 FE, S25 Edge
• Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, S24 FE
• Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra

Galaxy Z series

• Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7
• Galaxy Z TriFold
• Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6
• Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5

Galaxy A series

• Galaxy A57, A56, A55
• Galaxy A37, A36, A35
• Galaxy A27, A26
• Galaxy A17 5G, A16 5G, A16
• Galaxy A07

Galaxy M series

• Galaxy M47
• Galaxy M36
• Galaxy M16

We’ll update the list as Samsung rolls out the update to more Galaxy devices.

The rollout already covers all eligible high-end smartphones, and so the focus is now shifting towards bringing the update to mid-range and budget devices. Interestingly, Samsung hasn’t yet begun the rollout to any Galaxy tablets, which usually doesn’t take that long. Hopefully, users won’t have to wait much longer.

Remember that the rollout happens in batches, and so the update may take some time to reach all the users. If you haven’t received it but the model is on the above list, you should be enjoying the new software soon. To check for updates manually, go to Settings > Software updates and tap Download and install.

If you’re unsure whether your Samsung Galaxy device is eligible for Android 17, check the list of eligible devices on this page. And keep visiting the News section for fresh information. For real-time updates, you can join our Telegram channel.

Nothing OS 5.0 is a pretty significant upgrade for Nothing smartphones in recent years. Besides Android 17’s core features, this major upgrade packs a bunch of really useful features, new widgets, and a redesigned Control Center. It brings a more capable AI experience that also allows users to build custom apps and a dedicated Glyph app for easier customization.

The brand has already announced which devices will be upgraded to Nothing OS 5.0, and when. However, that’s a vague timeline without exact rollout dates. So, we’ve created a dedicated section on this page that tracks the rollout progress. If you have yet to receive the update on your Nothing phone, this tracker is only what you need.

Nothing OS 5.0 eligible devices and rollout schedule

Three phones are not eligible for the update: Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1. They have already received the number of OS upgrades promised by the brand, and so won’t receive Android 17 and future upgrades.

As planned, the Nothing Phone (3) received the Nothing OS 5.0 Open Beta in August, followed by other eligible devices. As of writing this post, most devices have received the open beta builds.

The brand has also started rolling out the stable update, with the Nothing Phone (3) being the first recipient. It should gradually expand to the rest of the eligible devices as per the schedule. Review the progress tracker below to learn more about the rollout.

Motorola’s Android 17 rollout has started to look more promising. The company has brought the update to four devices in the US in just a couple of days, including the Razr Ultra (2026).

The Android 17 update for the Razr Ultra (2026) arrives over-the-air with a hefty download size of 4.17GB, so make sure you’re connected to a high-speed Wi-Fi before hitting download. Once updated, your device will run the firmware version A171WLH.38–19–5. The security patch level is stuck at September 2026.

The original Motorola Signature is also among the initial recipients of the Android 17 in the US. The device is receiving the update in India, too.

Some mid-range phones got lucky, too

Some mid-range phones, including the Edge 60 Pro and Edge 60 Fusion, have got lucky to receive the update alongside premium models. In fact, they started picking up the update a few days earlier.

The update is rolling out in batches, and so, it may take a while to reach all the users. If you own any of these Motorola phones, you’ll soon be enjoying Android 17. To check for updates manually, go to Settings and tap System update.

The changelog for all the aforementioned devices are unfortunately very thin, as you saw in the screenshot above. However, there’s an official page that breaks down all the changes to Motorola’s Android 17 update. We’ve covered them in detail on this page.

Motorola looks more promising with the Android 17 rollout, but still, there’s no rollout schedule published yet. So, there’s hardly a way to predict when the update will reach your phone. There’s an official eligible devices list though you can have a look in case you aren’t sure about your device.

We’ll keep updating you when Motorola pushes the update to more devices. You can check the News section from time to time to get regular updates. Or, simply join our Telegram channel for instant alerts.

The OriginOS 7 skin, based on Android 17, has finally gone official in India, detailing which Vivo phones will receive the update and when. Unlike custom interfaces from other Android brands, this one brings substantial upgrades across key areas and essential AI features. So, if you own a Vivo phone, you should really care about this upgrade.

Vivo has confirmed that it will start rolling out OriginOS 7 in India towards the end of October. And like most of the time, newer premium models will get priority access, which includes the Vivo X300 series and Vivo X Fold 5. The Vivo X200 series will follow in November, while V-series handsets are slated to receive the update in mid-December. The rollout will subsequently expand to other lineups, such as the Vivo T and Y series.

Take a look at the complete rollout timeline below to find out when it’s your turn.

Vivo OriginOS 7 update rollout timeline

Vivo hasn’t provided exact rollout dates, so you’ll want to watch for the update to arrive on your device. You should receive an update notification on your phone once it’s available. However, it’s best to check for updates manually from time to time to ensure you’re not missing out if notification arrives with some delay, which usually is the case.

OriginOS 7 is a fairly substantial upgrade clocking in at several gigabytes, depending on the model. So, it’s best that you keep at least 10GB of free storage space for a smoother upgrade. Also, ensure that there are no older pending updates left for installation.

We will provide further updates as the OriginOS 7 rollout commences in India. In the meantime, visit our News section or, join our Telegram channel for instant alerts on new stories.

Samsung’s One UI 9 rollout has finally picked up some good pace after a series of unfortunate events. The stable update initially landed on the Galaxy S26 series, but it remained limited to Korea for longer than expected. The update is now available in more regions, and Samsung has also begun rolling out the update to more Galaxy devices – at a better pace.

Quickly after the Galaxy S26 picked up One UI 9 globally, the rollout also went live for the Galaxy S25 series and recent foldable phones. Here’s a list of Galaxy devices that have received the One UI 9 update.

Samsung devices getting the stable One UI 9 update

Galaxy S series

• Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Ultra
• Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, S25 FE

Galaxy Z series

• Galaxy Z TriFold
• Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7

The list should grow as more Galaxy devices receive the One UI 9 update in the coming days and weeks. We’ll update it regularly to keep it fresh and up-to-date.

If your Galaxy device is on the list, navigate to Settings > Software updates, then tap Download and install to check for the latest update, if you have not yet received an update notification. Keep in mind that the update rolls out in batches and may take a while to reach your device.

We’ll keep tracking the latest developments around One UI and post them in our Samsung section. You can visit the page regularly for the latest details.

The post One UI 9 update is now rolling out to these Galaxy devices appeared first on Gizmochina.

Origin story as follows:

It took Samsung four months of testing and seven beta iterations to finally begin rolling out the stable One UI 9 to the Galaxy S26 series. The rollout went live on September 16, and as expected, it was initially limited to Samsung’s home market, South Korea. But the company is struggling with a wider rollout.

Usually, Samsung expands the update to other regions within hours of the Korean release, but it’s been nearly a week, and the One UI 9 update hasn’t been released for a single device outside Korea.

Samsung’s Thailand newsroom portal promised to release the update to the Galaxy S26 phones on September 21st, but it hasn’t arrived yet. What we now have is a new date – September 28th.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Samsung isn’t confident with a specific release date. The company soon updated the newsroom post to include that the Galaxy S26 series will receive the update in September, with no specific date mentioned.

Previously, Samsung’s Thailand newsroom post promised to bring One UI 9 to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 on September 28th. The revised page says the update will be released to these Galaxy devices in September, while the Galaxy S23 FE’s update timeline has been postponed from “October” to “later this year.”

The One UI 9 rollout dates weren’t looking promising from the beginning, as we hinted in a previous post. Samsung published these One UI 9 rollout dates only on its Thailand portal, while other newsroom posts were completely silent about them. And now we’re seeing the dates being pushed further. Still, other newsroom portals haven’t published anything about the update rollout, which could mean further changes in plans are still possible.

These last-minute changes are making users furious, given that the Galaxy S26 series has already undergone a lengthy four-month beta testing period, which is more than enough time to find and fix bugs. What’s worse? Samsung isn’t communicating clearly on the matter, which is making some people on Reddit more disappointed than the actual rollout delays.

Anyways, we’ll continue to track the latest developments on the topic and post them in our Samsung section. You can visit the page regularly for the latest details.

The Nothing OS 5.0 Open Beta rollout went live last month, starting with the flagship Phone (3), and is now expanding to Phone (4a) Pro users. The Android 17-based update brings tons of changes across the software, including a redesigned control center, Lucent themes, expanded lock screen customizations, and new AI features.

The Nothing OS 5.0 beta update for the Phone (4a) Pro has been released a week later than the brand promised earlier. It comes with a total download size of 2.73GB. To get the beta update on your phone, you must first sign up for the beta program. We have a step-by-step guide for this you can find on this page.

What upgrades does Nothing OS 5.0 beta offer to Phone (4a) Pro?

Nothing OS 5.0 is one of the biggest upgrades for Nothing phones in recent years. From new icons to building apps with AI, there are plenty of exciting changes packed into this major upgrade. As for the visual changes, there’s a redesigned Control Center with an iOS flavor, a brand-new theme, a separate notification panel, and upgraded status bar icons and animations.

The lock screen and home screen also receive notable upgrades, including wallpaper-adaptive colors for app icons and quick settings tiles, the Away Time and Collector widgets, Glyph Timer, and improved depth effects.

Nothing OS 5.0 strongly focuses on upgrading the AI capabilities on Nothing phones. It brings an upgraded on-voice engine and enables MCP support. There’s a new Smart Selection feature inside Essential Space that automatically groups, sorts, and organizes your scattered photos and screen captures. Plus, an Essential Apps Builder to allow users to build custom apps using text prompts.

Nothing phones finally receive a dedicated Glyph app, allowing users to control custom lighting animations, ringtone schedules, and sounds. The update package also includes several Android 17 core features, including expanded Dark Mode, cross-platform Quick Share, a floating screen recorder, improved privacy indicator, and isolated audio controls.

Two missing upgrades are coming with a stable release

Nothing OS 5.0 introduces two new clock faces: Gooey and Micrographics. “Gooey” features a bold, playful design and is being rolled out to beta devices, but “Micrographics”, which is inspired by mechanical typography, is still undergoing final development, and so it isn’t available to Phone (4a) Pro just yet.

Nothing has confirmed that the refreshed home screen is also under development.

These two unfinished upgrades will ship with the general release starting in October.

We’ll keep you posted with the latest updates on Nothing OS in our Nothing section. You can also join our Telegram channel to receive instant alerts.

While it’s an unofficial list, it should closely resemble the official one when it’s announced, as it’s been prepared in accordance with the official update policy.

It won’t take long to notice that there are no Oppo A-series phones on the list. The reason is that most A-series phones do not have an official update policy. So, we decided to exclude that for now to keep the list accurate.

We’ll update the list when Oppo announces ColorOS 17, which is scheduled for September 17.

When will Oppo roll out the ColorOS 17 update?

Oppo hasn’t announced the ColorOS 17 rollout schedule yet, but it appears the rollout could begin earlier than last year’s ColorOS 16. The company announced ColorOS 16 in China in mid-October, while the ColorOS 17 launch is happening a month earlier, on September 16.

As always, the rollout will begin in China first, likely starting early October, while the global rollout could begin later that month. We’ll have more clarity on this when Oppo reveals the timeline at the ColorOS 17 launch event on September 17.

The brand hasn’t announced a global launch date yet. We’ll likely hear about it soon after ColorOS 17 launches in China.

Oppo ColorOS 17 update: Here’s what to expect

Beta testers and leaks have revealed almost all the major visual changes coming to ColorOS 17. The new software brings a stronger translucent frosted-glass appearance across the UI. It features an updated Control Center with fully circular controls and redesigned settings and edit buttons.

The updated Quick Settings panel uses a translucent frosted-glass appearance with contour glow, and swiping between the Control Panel and Notification Center produces a bouncy animation with visible layer separation. It features expanded volume and brightness sliders for finer controls.

The volume slider now features a quick mute button at the bottom and a percentage display at the top. When earbuds are connected, the volume slider shows an earbud icon.

ColorOS 17 replaces the traditional navigation bar with a transparent capsule-style navigation bar that works across most system apps, including Phone, Notes, and Recorder. Users can swipe left or right to switch sections.

The Flux Themes get new interactive effects and smoother animations. The vertical clock on the lock screen now offers three font styles and uses a frosted-glass treatment with a contour glow. Oppo brings iOS 26-inspired flashlight interface, allowing brightness adjustments by swiping up or down on the screen.

The Phone app now features a redesigned call interface with a larger end call button and more customization options. The Media Player has also been updated to feature a stronger frosted-glass effect, a comet-like animated seek bar, and a light-field aesthetic for added depth. The new software also adds a new “Live Alert” charging animation with a glow effect, paired with a more spacious charging tone.

Besides visual upgrades, ColorOS 17 is reported to have better RAM management and thermal efficiency. The Photos app is expected to bring new AI-assisted editing tools.

I’m sure ColorOS 17 brings more exciting new features and upgrades that the company will highlight at the upcoming event.

The post Oppo ColorOS 17 (Android 17) update: Supported devices, release date, and major upgrades appeared first on Gizmochina.

Nothing has recently published the rollout timeline for Nothing OS 5.0, and three phones were missing from the list: the original Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1. The Phone (1) is too old to receive an OS upgrade, but many Phone (2) users were expecting to receive Android 17.

During a recent “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, many users expressed their disappointment over the Phone (2) not getting the Android 17-based Nothing OS 5.0 update. Responding to the query, Nothing’s CEO, Carl Pei, said the kernel is unfortunately too old, and that Android 17 won’t be supported by the chip vendor.

Carl incorrectly claimed that the Phone (2) received four major upgrades, but in reality, it received three. Later, he edited the message to include the correct details.

Even though the Phone (2) isn’t getting the Android 17 update, Nothing stood by its promise. At the launch, the brand committed to offering three major OS releases to the device, and it did. The last major OS upgrade was Android 16, and that will be it for the rest for the lives for Phone (2) users.

The Nothing Phone (2) will continue to receive security updates until July 2027, per the official update policy.

From the users’ point of view, it’s fair to ask for more OS updates, especially when brands like Samsung offer their mid-range phones up to six major Android updates. Many budget Galaxy phones also carry the same update policy, while Nothing is stuck with three for most of its phones.

Only the flagship Nothing Phone (3) is eligible for five major OS updates. Even that can’t match what Samsung and Google promise to their high-end phones.

In 2026, three OS updates for mid-range phones sound like an outdated update policy. Nothing needs to rework on its update policy and offer longer OS support to its devices.

We’ll keep updating you with the latest Nothing OS details in our Nothing section. You can visit the page regularly or join our Telegram channel to stay updated.

Sony has quietly begun rolling out the Android 17 update, starting with the Xperia 1 VIII. The company has also published a post detailing the changes and new features in Android 17, along with the complete list of eligible devices.

The Android 17 update for the Xperia 1 VIII is tagged with the firmware version 73.1.A.2.61 and has a download size of about 1.2GB. The initial rollout is limited to Europe, but it shouldn’t be long before it expands to more regions.

Users can head to the Settings app and open the Software Update section to manually check for available updates. Note that rollout happens in batches, and so the availability may depend on your region.

What’s new in Android 17 for Sony phones?

The Android 17 update introduces a new Desktop mode on Sony phones and an updated Quick Settings panel that lets you resize and rearrange tiles. Larger tiles can now feature short descriptions.

Sony has updated the “Wallpapers & style” feature with new wallpapers and new clock designs. You can now customize the shape and size of icons for a more personalized experience. Nothing OS 5.0 update: New features and major upgrade

One UI 9.0 is Samsung’s latest custom skin built on top of Android 17. As always, the new software undergoes extensive beta testing before it’s released publicly, which also allows select users to get an early taste of the software.

HyperOS 4 will be a substantial upgrade for Xiaomi devices, offering a major visual upgrade, performance boost, and intelligent AI features. The beta program has been live for over a dozen phones in China, and the stable release should go live soon. Unfortunately, the list of eligible Xiaomi models may be smaller than we expected, as the company may skip the HyperOS 4 rollout to Android 16 devices.

Folks at Ximitime have found that, of the 112 devices expected to receive Android 17, 108 have entered HyperOS 4’s internal testing phases. Surprisingly, there’s not even a single Android 16 device on the list, which indicates Xiaomi isn’t preparing a HyperOS 4 build for an older OS.

Historically, Xiaomi has offered its latest HyperOS skin to a handful of devices stuck on an older OS. The last major upgrade, HyperOS 3, was also released to many Xiaomi devices running Android 15, although with a limited set of upgrades. That’s been true with most of the recent major HyperOS releases, and so, HyperOS 4 was also expected to follow the same pattern, but Xiaomi may have different plans.

Xiaomi may be rethinking its software rollout strategy

Unlike other brands, Xiaomi has long offered the latest HyperOS software to its devices running older Android OS versions. But things appear to be changing now. The latest information suggests that the brand will ship HyperOS 4 with Android 17 only, and that this trend may continue going further.

While there’s no official confirmation on this, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, considering recent efforts by other Chinese brands to reduce R&D costs. Xiaomi may also be looking to reduce costs and time, so this move makes sense for the brand.

We’ll keep updating you with the latest details in our HyperOS 4 section. You can visit the page regularly or join our Telegram channel to stay updated.

Samsung’s One UI 9 beta program has been up and running since May, but it has remained limited to the Galaxy S26 series. Well, that’s changing soon as the brand is almost prepared to bring the beta program to more devices, including some mid-range phones.

The Galaxy S26 series has already received seven beta updates and might be nearing the end of the the end of beta program. That could mean the One UI 9 beta may start expanding to more Galaxy devices anytime soon.

In the last few days, over a dozen Galaxy devices have been spotted on the test servers with beta builds. Earlier, we reported on internal testing of the new software for dozens of Galaxy devices, but recent test builds specifically target the beta software for the following devices, which could soon join the public beta program.

Samsung could release One UI 9 beta to these devices

Galaxy S series

• Galaxy S25
• Galaxy S25+
• Galaxy S25 Ultra
• Galaxy S25 FE
• Galaxy S24
• Galaxy S24+
• Galaxy S24 Ultra
• Galaxy S23
• Galaxy S23+
• Galaxy S23 Ultra

Galaxy Z series

• Galaxy Z Fold 7
• Galaxy Z Flip 7

Galaxy A series

• Galaxy A57
• Galaxy A56
• Galaxy A55
• Galaxy A54
• Galaxy A36
• Galaxy A35

The beta rollout plans could be affected by a variety of reasons, and so the list above shouldn’t be treated as the final list.

The good news is that the One UI 9 beta expansion won’t take long, as Samsung has already created beta program sections for many devices on its Community forum, including the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7. These devices will likely receive the beta update in the coming days.

We’ll keep you updated with the latest rollout details in our Samsung section. You can also follow our Telegram channel to receive instant alerts.

Nothing has officially unveiled the next iteration of its custom skin, Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17. It’s a pretty substantial upgrade with major visual overhauls, performance improvements, and deeper AI integration. The brand has also announced rollout plans for open beta and general release, with the open beta kicking off on August 26.

The brand has confirmed that Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 are not eligible for the Nothing OS 5.0 update, as we reported previously. As for the open beta, it won’t be released for Phone (3a) Lite and CMF Phone 2 Pro.

Check the official rollout schedule below to know when the Nothing OS 5.0 update will be available for your phone.

Nothing OS 5.0 rollout schedule

The Open Beta program starts August 26 for the Phone (3), and will continue to expand to more phones until mid-December. The stable rollout is scheduled to begin mid-October for the Phone (3), and should reach all other devices by January 2027.

Note that the rollout happens in batches, and so one region may receive updates earlier than others. However, the expansion doesn’t normally take more than a few days.

How to get Nothing OS 5.0 Beta on your phone?

Once the beta program goes live for your Nothing device, you can register for it by following these steps:

1. Make sure your phone is updated to the latest available build.
2. Download and install the latest Nothing Beta Hub V2.0 APK.
3. Go to Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub.
4. Tap Check Version.
5. Click Join Beta to register.
6. Tap Go to Update to download the beta update.

If you don’t see the Go to Update button, navigate to Settings > System > System updates to manually check for updates.

Android 17 is proof that Motorola is taking serious steps towards improving its software rollout. It was the first third-party brand to announce the Android 17 beta program in February, and later became the first non-Google brand to kick off stable Android 17 rollout.

The Motorola Edge (2025) and Motorola Signature were the company’s first phones to be blessed with a stable Android 17 release. The rollout then expanded to more phones. If you’ve been waiting for the update on your Motorola phone or wondering whether it’s eligible, we’ve got you covered. This post has everything you may need to know about Android 17 for Motorola phones.

While it’s an official list published in an official blog post (in Spanish), it may not be complete. Some phones are missing from the list, including the Edge 50 Neo and Edge 60 Neo. Both devices have been guaranteed five major Android upgrades, and that makes them eligible for Android 17.

There are a few more devices that should be on the list as per the existing update policy. We believe Motorola will still release the update to those missing devices from the list, without a prior announcement.

When will your Motorola phone receive Android 17?

Unlike other brands, Motorola doesn’t really publish a release schedule. So, there’s no way you can predict when your phone is going to get the next software upgrade, Android 17. Motorola, if you’re reading this, that’s not encouraging at all. You should provide users with a detailed rollout schedule, so they stop checking for updates without a clue.

Motorola devices with beta releases already out typically receive a stable update in the next few weeks. Remaining users can regularly check for updates via Settings or visit our Motorola section to know when the update arrives.

Motorola Android 17 update: Major changes and new features

The Android 17 update for Motorola phones brings visual and functional upgrades to Live Updates. The UI element is now integrated into the camera cutout in the middle (previously on the left side of the status bar), similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island. Motorola has also expanded its compatibility to work with most of your day-to-day apps.

Motorola has updated the Settings page UI, which now looks more like Pixel UI. There are new status bar icons, a new volume interface, and new icons for Wi-Fi, cell tower, and battery. There’s also a new Classic Control Center. The HelloUI app drawer now features improved background blur, a create folder button, and removed app titles. The apps now appear in a 3×3 grid instead of 2×2, and they appear tinted.

Android 17 also introduces new clock faces, typography, and style options for a more personalized lock screen experience. However, there’s still no depth effect feature. Motorola has made it easier to take screenshots (now a three-finger swipe-down gesture) or enable split-screen (now a three-finger swipe-up gesture). Among the new Android 17 features are a Landscape Stereo, Qira AI assistant, Enhanced HDR Brightness, and Battery health. You can read more about the upcoming changes in detail on this page.

Nothing is preparing to release the Nothing OS 5.0 update, which is based on Android 17. The beta program is already live on select devices, and the stable rollout should be here in a few weeks.

Most Nothing phones are eligible for the Nothing OS 5.0 upgrade, except for three. The brand has already fulfilled the major OS updates promised to these three devices at launch, so they are no longer eligible for OS updates.

These Nothing phones won’t get the Nothing OS 5.0 update

• Nothing Phone 1 (Last OS: Android 15)
• Nothing Phone 2 (Last OS: Android 16)
• CMF Phone 1 (Last OS: Android 16)

While these three Nothing phones aren’t eligible for Android 17, the Nothing Phone 2 and CMF Phone 1 will continue to receive security patches until mid-2027. The first-gen Nothing Phone 1, however, has already reached the end of its life.

If you’re still using the Nothing Phone 1, it’s advised to upgrade to a newer model. Not only are you missing the latest features, but also the latest security patches that protect your device from various security threats.

Nothing Phone 2 and CMF Phone 1 users should also consider upgrading the hardware to ensure they continue to receive Nothing OS updates, which usually bring exciting visual upgrades and new features.

After a long four-month wait since the Android 17 beta registration went live for the Edge 50 Ultra, Motorola is finally pushing the beta build to users. That update package has a massive download size of 5.24 GB, and that means users can expect to see some major upgrades.

A Motorola Edge 50 Ultra user on Reddit confirmed the rollout. The update comes with the firmware version A171UVH.42, which also includes the August 2026 security patch, besides core Android 17 features and upgrades.

The update is rolling out to Edge 50 Ultra users who previously signed up for the Android 17 beta program. If you’re among them, the update should arrive on your device at any moment. You can manually check for updates from the System update section in the Settings app.

What’s new in Android 17 beta for Motorola devices?

The changelog is unfortunately thin on details, as you can see in the screenshot above. However, we already know pretty much everything that Android 17 beta offers on Motorola devices. The update introduces new icons for the status bar, a new Classic Control Center, Landscape Stereo, Enhanced HDR Brightness, and Battery health. The Live Updates feature is now integrated into the camera cutout in the middle (previously, it appeared on the left side), similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island.

The lock screen receives new clocks with expanded typography and style options, but without the depth effect feature. Motorola has made it a lot easier to take screenshots (now a three-finger swipe-down gesture) and enable split-screen (now a three-finger swipe-down gesture).

The Android 17 beta brings many more useful changes, including fixing the overlapping network icons, a new volume interface, stronger haptics, a new Moto assistant, and new customization options. The update brings many more changes, which you can read on this page.

The post Android 17 beta finally rolls out to Motorola Edge 50 Ultra appeared first on Gizmochina.

The Motorola Edge 70 Max is the latest smartphone to join the company’s ongoing Android 17 beta program. Ideally, the device should have launched with the newest Android OS since it was launched in July 2026, but anyway, it’s good to see Motorola acting quickly to bring the update.

According to the official community post, the Android 17 beta program for the Edge 70 Max is live in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) and India. This doesn’t just mean the beta build is rolling out; it means the company is now allowing people to register for the beta testing opportunity.

As always, the number of testers should be limited, and you must therefore submit your participation as early as possible to stand a chance. Unlike beta applications from other brands, Motorola’s require a few extra steps. We have a detailed step-by-step guide on how you can register for Motorola’s Android 17 beta program that you can refer to.

Once you’ve upgraded to Android 17 beta, you’ll have many new features and plenty of upgrades to explore. For instance, there’s a new Classic Control Center, new status bar icons, and updated home screen icons. Motorola has also improved haptics that now feel different when you swipe a notification.

Motorola has integrated Live Updates into the camera cutout in the middle, similar to Apple’s implementation. Previously, it would appear on the left side of the Status bar. The update also adds support for most day-to-day apps.

The lock screen gets new clock faces and new font styles. Motorola has made it a lot easier to take screenshots and open split-screen. Now, you can swipe down three fingers to take a screenshot. To open a split-screen, simply swipe up three fingers. The update also brings some new features, including Landscape Stereo, Enhanced HDR Brightness, and Battery health.

Samsung has yet to publish an official list. The one above is based on the company’s existing software update policy; therefore, you can count on it.

If your Galaxy device is on the list, it’s almost guaranteed to receive the One UI 9.0 update. But when can you expect the update? Read the following section to find out.

When will your Samsung Galaxy receive the One UI 9.0 update?

Samsung is closely following last year’s One UI 8.0 timeline for the One UI 9.0 release. The beta program was announced in May, followed by the debut of the stable version on the latest foldable phones in July. In fact, the One UI 9.0 beta expansion is following a similar pattern as well.

The brand is most likely to follow a similar rollout schedule going forward. So, we can expect the stable rollout to begin sometime in September. Initially, it will be released for high-end models like the Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Once the rollout begins, Samsung doesn’t spend much time to expand the update to mid-range and affordable devices. If things continue to move smoothly, all eligible devices should receive the update by the end of this year.

One UI 9.0 update: New features and major upgrades

One UI 8.5 has already brought major design upgrades, and therefore, One UI 9.0 looks too familiar. Instead, the latest build focuses heavily on advanced Galaxy AI integration, a redesigned Quick Panel, and a more productive experience for foldable users.

Galaxy AI Gets Smarter and More Capable

• Now Nudge: A contextual assistant that monitors on-screen actions and gives you helpful prompts at the right moment.
• My FanCam: It’s a new AI feature that lets users turn a wide shot into a subject-tracking clip right in the Gallery. It supports cropping and reframing to any aspect ratio.
• Voice Photo Assist: It lets users describe image edits aloud, and the AI handles the rest. Users see a side-by-side view to compare the original and edited images.
• Samsung Internet: The browser now features an integrated “Ask AI” side panel powered by Perplexity AI for rapid search and summaries.
• Now Brief: It gets more personal and helpful. With the latest upgrades, you can now build briefing cards tailored specifically to your personal interests. Cards now feature integrated action buttons to help you jump right into an active task without opening the respective app manually.

Visual and Interface Changes

• Revamped Quick Panel: Now features independent, ticker slides for brightness and volume, plus a resizable media player.
• Optimized Wallpaper Layouts: Automatically repositions lock screen wallpaper subjects so they do not overlap with widgets, and uses generative AI to fill empty spaces naturally.
• Condensed Navigation: Replaces text descriptions with clean titles and swaps the bottom bars for floating pill-shaped bars to maximize viewable screen space.

Enhanced Productivity

• Three-App Split Screen: One UI 9.0 expands multi-window capabilities to support running three apps side by side seamlessly.
• Samsung Notes: Adds a decorative tape tool to conceal text or straighten crooked handwritten lines, alongside new pen styles.
• Overlay Game Booster: Allows users to tweak hardware settings on the fly without minimizing the game.

Security and Privacy

• AI Assistant Activity: Offers a clear view of every app action your AI assistants have taken on your behalf, so you can keep an eye on what app actions were performed and exactly when they happened.
• Browser Protection: When you accidentally access a malicious website through Samsung Browser, it will alert you just in time.
• Advanced Auto Blocker: It blocks high-risk apps and lets users review extensive data regarding blocked background installations.

Even though it’s a long list of eligible devices, there are still a couple of Motorola phones that are missing from the list shared by Lenovo. For instance, the Edge 50 Neo and Edge 60 Neo should have been on the list. Both phones have been promised 5 years of major OS updates. The other Edge 50 series models should also be eligible for the Android 17 upgrade.

Many Motorola fans on online forums like Reddit have expressed concerns regarding the incomplete Android 17 eligible devices list shared by the brand. We hope the company will publish an updated list soon. We’ll let you know when that happens.

When it comes to timely software releases, Motorola doesn’t have a strong reputation. However, it has made significant improvements in recent years. Take Android 16, for example: the rollout was quicker than previous years, and the company is looking to speed things up this year.

The company began accepting beta applications for Android 17 just days after Google released Android 17 Beta 1. Surprisingly, the beta program wasn’t limited to a few models like many brands do. Motorola kept expanding its reach and even added many budget Moto G-series models.

To everyone’s surprise, Motorola has already begun sending out the stable Android 17 update. It’s the Motorola Edge 2025 getting the first bite, and the rollout should continue to expand to more devices in the coming weeks.

One UI 9.0, based on Android 17, has already debuted on the latest Galaxy foldables, and it will soon start rolling out to older devices. There’s a long list of devices in line to receive this major Android OS upgrade, but for 19 of them, this will be the end of the road for OS updates.

Samsung is the best in the business at offering longer update cycles, but even that has to come to an end at some point. Soon, over a dozen Galaxy devices, including many high-end phones and tablets, will stop receiving OS updates after upgrading to Android 17.

Review the list of such devices below to find out if you will need a hardware upgrade soon.

These Galaxy devices won’t receive OS updates beyond Android 17

Galaxy S series

• Galaxy S23
• Galaxy S23+
• Galaxy S23 Ultra
• Galaxy S23 FE
• Galaxy Z Fold 5
• Galaxy Z Flip 5

Galaxy A, M, F series

• Galaxy A34 5G
• Galaxy A24 4G
• Galaxy M54 5G
• Galaxy M34 5G
• Galaxy F54 5G
• Galaxy F34 5G

Galaxy Tab series

• Galaxy Tab S9
• Galaxy Tab S9+
• Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
• Galaxy Tab S9 FE
• Galaxy Tab S9 FE+
• Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024)

The list has been prepared after carefully reviewing the software update policy for every Galaxy device, and so it must be accurate.

All the Galaxy devices on the list are guaranteed to receive the upcoming One UI 9.0 update, based on Android 17. However, this won’t just be the end of software updates for them.

The devices will still continue to receive security updates for at least a year. Many of them are likely to receive the One UI 9.5 update sometime next year, since it will also be based on Android 17. After that, Samsung won’t release any new feature upgrades for these devices.

If your Samsung device is on the list above, there’s still time to plan your next hardware upgrade. Meanwhile, you can review the list of Galaxy devices that offer 7 major Android OS upgrades to find your potential upgrade options.

We’ll keep you posted as we receive more details. You can check back our Samsung section in a while, or simply join our Telegram channel to receive instant alerts.

Motorola has started sending Android 17 beta updates to users who previously signed up for beta testing. The high-end Motorola Signature was among the first recipients, but the brand didn’t waste any time expanding availability to mid-range phones, including the Edge 70 Pro, Edge 70 Fusion, and Edge 60 Pro.

The Android 17 beta update for Motorola devices comes with a massive download size of around 5GB. But the changelog is unfortunately thin on details, as you can see in the screenshot below.

Luckily, some Motorola enthusiasts have shared on their social accounts about the new features and changes they’ve spotted after upgrading to Android 17 beta.

Here’s a quick list of changes shared by a Moto Edge 60 Pro user on Reddit:

• New Dynamic Island
• New quick tiles with the ability to change size
• New icons for Wi-Fi, cell tower, and battery
• New volume interface
• New customization options
• New settings menu
• Improved and stronger Haptics
• Phone feels warmer than usual
• Brand new Moto AI assistant named Qira
• Cloud connection via Smart Connect
• New notification management system

While this list is a good starting point, it doesn’t go very much into detail. Fortunately, a Motorola user on X (Fanboy_Moto) has shared better details along with screenshots and screen recordings, offering us a closer look at the new software.

Fanboy_Moto says the Android 17 beta update brings major improvements to the phone’s haptics, and the haptics feel very different when you swipe a notification. The status bar gets new icons, and home screen icons are tinted now. There’s also a new Classic Control Center, likely referring to the combined Notification panel with Quick Settings shortcuts.

Motorola has also brought visual and functional upgrades to Live Updates. Previously, Live Updates would appear on the left side of the status bar. Now, it has been integrated into the camera cutout in the middle, similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island. Plus, it now supports most of your day-to-day apps. See the upgraded Live Updates in action here.

Changes have also been made to the Motorola HelloUI App Drawer, as shared by Fanboy_Moto:

• No MotoAI in the search bar
• Better background blur
• Folders now have a 3×3 grid instead of 2×2
• Create folder button
• Removed app titles
• All apps are now tinted

The lock screen receives new clock faces with expanded typography and style options. Unfortunately, there’s no depth effect feature. Fanboy_Moto has posted a video on X detailing all the lock screen changes. You can watch it here.

There are quite a few smaller but meaningful changes that are worth paying attention to. It includes a faster, easier way to take screenshots and split-screen. Previously, you had to hold down three fingers on the screen to take a screenshot, which was pretty annoying. Now, it’s a three-finger swipe down gesture. You can watch the new gesture in action here.

Split screen is now a three-finger swipe-up gesture. Previously, it required swiping back and forth, which users weren’t happy about. Motorola has also fixed the issue (to some extent) where network icons would overlap. But it still needs work.

Motorola has also updated the Settings page UI, which now looks more like Pixel UI.

Fanboy_Moto has also spotted a few more features in Motorola’s Android 17 beta, including Landscape Stereo, Qira AI assistant, Enhanced HDR Brightness, and Battery health.

The Android 17 beta update is currently rolling out on a few Motorola devices, and we expect more devices to join the party as testing expands. Hopefully, the stable release won’t take much longer, as beta users are reporting that the new build is working fine without any critical issues.

The post Motorola Android 17 beta update: Here are the new features and major changes appeared first on Gizmochina.

In the last three months, Samsung has released four One UI 9.0 beta updates, but all of them were targeted at the Galaxy S26 series. The company has not opened the beta program for any other Galaxy device. Well, that could change soon as the brand is almost ready to release the beta update for the Galaxy S25 series.

Samsung has listed Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra in the One UI Beta Program section on the Samsung Members forum, as spotted by Tarun Vats. While the listing doesn’t reveal anything about the program, it strongly suggests Samsung is preparing to launch the beta program for the Galaxy S25 series.

If past One UI beta releases are anything to go by, Samsung may release One UI 9.0 beta for the Galaxy S25 series by next week, with more Galaxy devices expected to join the beta program in the coming weeks.

Samsung has always kept the beta program restricted to limited regions. For the Galaxy S26 series, the One UI 9.0 beta is available in South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, and Poland. It’s likely going to be limited to these regions for other devices as well, including the Galaxy S25 series.

Once the One UI 9.0 beta program goes live in your region, you can be part of it by tapping on the beta banner in Samsung Members and filling in the required details. You can then head over to Settings > Software updates to download the beta build.

As for the stable version, it has already debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in July, while the rollout to older devices is expected to begin in September 2026.

OnePlus has confirmed that the next major OS upgrade for its devices will come with the ColorOS 17 skin instead of OxygenOS 17. The rollout is expected to begin in the coming weeks, but unfortunately, the update won’t reach many OnePlus devices.

The OxygenOS 16 update, based on Android 16, was the last major upgrade for many OnePlus devices, and therefore, they aren’t eligible for future major upgrades, including ColorOS 17. The list includes flagship phones such as the OnePlus 11R, 10R, and 10 Pro, as well as a couple of Nord series phones.

Take a look at the list below to find out if you will need a hardware upgrade soon.

List of OnePlus devices that are not eligible for the ColorOS 17 update

This list has been prepared after carefully reviewing the software update policy for every OnePlus device, and so it must be accurate.

OnePlus flagship phones

• OnePlus 11R
• OnePlus 10R
• OnePlus 10T
• OnePlus 10 Pro

OnePlus Nord series

• OnePlus Nord 3
• OnePlus Nord CE 4
• OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite

OnePlus Pad series

• OnePlus Pad
• OnePlus Pad Go

To keep the list short and relevant, we’ve only included OnePlus devices that received the OxygenOS 16 update but are not eligible for ColorOS 17.

If your OnePlus device is on the list above, it may be time to start thinking about an upgrade. The device should still receive security patches for a while, but it won’t have access to the newest features, visual upgrades, and AI capabilities that come with major upgrades.

There are some excellent OnePlus phones in the market, promising up to four major OS upgrades. Most recent flagship phones are covered by that promise, and it also extends to some Nord phones. That means you don’t need to spend a premium just to get long-term software support. Click here to check the full list of OnePlus phones that promise four major Android upgrades.

Over a dozen Motorola devices have already been a part of the Android 17 beta program, and now the list has just gotten bigger. The company has opened the beta registration for more devices, including popular Edge 70 series models, Razr models, and some affordable Moto G-series phones.

The announcement was made via multiple posts on the official community forum, along with details of the registration process and requirements. As always, Motorola accepts a limited number of users for the beta program, so you must submit your participation as soon as possible.

If you want to be a part of the beta program, you must opt in for MFN/beta testing for your Motorola device and then apply for an available testing opportunity. We have a detailed step-by-step guide you can follow.

It’s worth noting that beta builds are prone to having bugs and instability. If you still want to proceed, at least have a complete backup of your important data. Also, charge your device to at least 50% before hitting the install button.

After upgrading to Android 17 beta, you’ll have an updated notification panel and control center, new lock screen clock faces, and an updated Settings page. The update also introduces a new volume mixer and upgraded Live Activities that now also work with calls, music, and torch. We’ll know about all the new features and changes once Motorola publishes the complete changelog.

While the public One UI 9.0 beta program is limited to the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung is aggressively testing the upcoming build on dozens of devices. The list has a total of 49 devices, including many budget smartphones and tablets.

It doesn’t necessarily mean these Galaxy devices will receive One UI 9.0 beta or that they will receive the stable update faster. If your Galaxy device is under testing for One UI 9.0, it’s much more likely to receive the update on time, or you may be lucky to receive it alongside premium models. Review the list to see if yours is there.

Motorola has quietly begun rolling out the Android 17 beta update to the Moto Edge 60 Pro users. It’s one of the very first Motorola phones to receive this major beta update, which has recently been released for Motorola Signature, Moto Edge 70, and Moto G57 Power.

The Android 17 beta update for the Edge 60 Pro is reportedly rolling out in India with the firmware version A171VVH.16. It should soon begin to expand to other regions. This major upgrade has a download size of 5GB, which is larger than any major OS upgrade released in the past for the Edge 60 Pro. However, the changelog doesn’t reveal anything except for the July 2026 security patch and stability improvements.

If you have a Motorola Edge 60 Pro and you’ve already participated in the Android 17 beta program, the update may arrive anytime soon. To manually check for available updates, go to Settings > System updates, then tap Check for updates.

Please note that Motorola usually rolls out updates in batches, and so it can take a couple of days for them to reach all the users. The availability depends on your region.

Once you’ve upgraded to Android 17 beta, you’ll start to notice changes immediately. There’s an updated notification panel and control center, new clock faces for the lock screen, and an updated Settings page. The update also introduces a new volume mixer and upgraded Live Activities that now also work with calls, music, and torch.

We’ll learn more about the new features and changes once we have the complete changelog.

The company has announced that eligible older Realme devices will be upgraded to the ColorOS skin. Well, ColorOS 17, to be precise. However, they didn’t publish a list of those eligible devices. So, we’ve created one based on the current software update policy.

For those wondering what the shift will look like: we highly doubt much will change as Realme UI and ColorOS look similar. In fact, both custom skins have been sharing the same codebase for years.
