Last week, Apple’s product roadmap for the second half of this year and the first half of next year was tipped. Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his weekly Power On newsletter has revealed interesting information about future Apple AirPods. The Cupertino-based tech giant is said to be working on incorporating health features in future models of its TWS earphones. Read on to know more details below. 

Future generations of Apple AirPods tipped to come with health features

By incorporating health and wellness features in future AirPods, users will be able to track vital parameters. This will also enhance the capabilities of the TWS earphones. Gurman says that Apple is working on significant innovations related to hearing health and body temperature that is planned to release in the next few years. 

The future generation of Apple AirPods is tipped to be integrated with a body temperature sensor. It is expected to accurately measure the temperature of the user’s body through the ear canal. This is said to be more effective than the Apple Watch 8 and Ultra which collect data through the wrist. 

Additionally, Apple is also planning to position the future AirPods as a viable substitute for hearing aids. This is because the FDA regulations in the USA now allow the over-the-counter purchase of hearing aids without a prescription. Future AirPods might get a hearing test feature that will enable users to detect any hearing issues. The feature will play different sounds and tones to determine a user’s hearing capacity. Currently, Apple already offers Live Listen and Conversation Boost features on AirPods.

There will be a significant leap for Apple and the TWS earphones segment, if the future generations of AirPods indeed come with a body temperature sensor and hearing test feature. We have come across multiple instances of how Apple’s smartwatches have saved users lives. However, the Cupertino-based tech giant is still a few years away from launching the next-generation AirPods. If the current product roadmap is anything to go by, we can expect them to debut in 2025. 

Aside from updates to future AirPods, Gurman also reveals that Apple might update the AirPods with a USB-C port at the fall event expected to happen in September this year. He also added that Apple might explore the possibility of reducing the price of its entry-level AirPods.

A new report has revealed an interesting functionality regarding the Apple AirPods Pro hearables. A study has found that the company’s truly wireless earbuds can serve as a cheaper alternative to hearing aids.

The new study was published in the iScience journal and basically focuses on the “Live Listen” function on the Cupertino based giant AirPods models and some of its Beats earbuds as well. For those unaware, this feature on Apple branded hearables basically lets your iPhone act as a microphone, which then relays enhanced audio the the user’s AirPods earbuds. Keep in mind that this feature isn’t made with the intention of helping people that suffer from a hearing loss issue and require a hearing aid.

Rather, it was made to filter out certain sounds in noisy situations for those with normal hearing. At the moment, hearing aids can range anywhere between 1,000 US Dollars to 10,000 US Dollars in the US alone. But researchers at Taipei Veterans General Hospital have found that Apple’s AirPods Pro model can surprisingly work well as an affordable hearing aid, in comparison to actual hearing aids. In the study, the researchers uses the 2nd Gen AirPods and first gen AirPods Pro, which was paired with the iPhone XS Max.

The hearables was pitted again both the top of the line OTICON Opn 1, which costs 10,000 US Dollars and the Bernafon’s $1,500 MD1 hearing device. The results with 21 participants with different degree of hearing loss found that the AirPods Pro ranked high in the list of hearing aids as well. Ranking between the two dedicated hearing aid devices. But while it can serve the function as a hearing aid alternative, it is only a temporary solution and not a true alternative to hearing aids.

Apple released the highly anticipated AirPods Pro 2 true wireless earbuds in the market a couple of months ago, and now it appears that the company is facing a minor issue with the production of the TWS earbuds.

In the latest development, Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that Apple has suspended Chinese supplier Goertek from manufacturing second-generation AirPods Pro because of production issues.

Kuo has also added that another Chinese supplier Luxshare has expanded its production of the AirPods Pro 2 to fill the gap, and with this, it has become the exclusive supplier of wireless earbuds for the time being.

While the specific reason behind suspending production at Goertek hasn’t been revealed, Kuo adds that it is likely because of the production issue and not a demand-related issue. It is not yet known when Goertek will resume production of the AirPods Pro.

It is also unclear if the issues affect any second-generation AirPods Pro that have already been sold. It remains to be seen if the latest development will cause any issues in terms of stock inventory for the company, especially during this holiday season.

The new Apple AirPods Pro were released in September this year, along with the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro series smartphones. The earbuds are currently in stock at Apple’s online store in the United States. Priced at $249 in the US, the new AirPods Pro features up to twice as much active noise cancellation as the original, along with charging case improvements and more.

Apple is back to creating a buzz in the market as the iPhone 14 lineup launch is getting near. Recently, a lot of speculation relating to the company’s next wireless earbuds, the AirPods Pro 2, which are expected to be launched later this year has been circulating in the tech world. Excitement is rife amongst the brand’s dedicated buyers and, the latest report has fueled the fire even further.

Apple is rumored to be upgrading AirPods with health-related features like heart rate monitoring. Taking into account Apple’s most recent patent (via Slashgear), the company also hopes that AirPods will help users avoid accidents on the road or on noisy construction sites.

Apple cites a Contextual audio system that automatically changes the volume to ensure users can hear essential sounds around them, such as emergency sirens and car horns, in a set of patents submitted with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The background sound system, in particular, can determine the user’s journey direction and speed using GPS data and other sensor parameters gathered by the user’s mobile phone or Apple Watch, altering the level of the matching left or right headphone. For example, GPS data tells that the user is near a busy crossroads, but because the user is wearing AirPods in both ears, the user may not detect the surrounding traffic when crossing the road. The AirPods will lower the level or possibly interrupt playing in this situation, alerting the user to the traffic. When the data indicates that the user is walking alongside the road, the AirPods will only lower the volume of the headphones on the side of the road. For example, if a road is on the user’s left side, the AirPods will only adjust the volume of the left earphone. AirPods ensure that users can hear emergency announcements around them by decreasing the headphone level.

Simultaneously, when AirPods and other devices detect particular data, the system may play alarm audio saved on the iPhone or Apple Watch to warn people to be alert. According to the patent, the sound of AirPods can be decreased or even paused in situations where users must concentrate, such as dangerous environments, job sites, and educational facilities.

The patent also cites a specific sensor that will work in concert with other sensors within an iPhone or Apple Watch to monitor the user’s torso position and take appropriate action. It is worth noting that the patent does not specifically indicate that it is for AirPods, but rather refers to a wearable audio device.

Apple has also submitted for a patent named “Wireless Ear Bud System With Pose Recognition,” which indicates that Apple is considering developing a body posture detection system for AirPods, which will monitor the user’s head tilt angle and limb extension in real-time.

Apple has been regularly releasing new software updates and firmware versions for its portfolio of products. The company recently concluded its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), showcasing several new and upcoming features.

Also, to install this new beta firmware for the wearable audio products, the user needs to be running the Apple iPhone with the latest iOS 16 beta operating system or a Mac device with the macOS Ventura beta along with Xcode 14 beta for the supported AirPods.

Apple claims that this new beta firmware version includes improvements to the Automatic Switching as well as some bug fixes and stability improvements. Once the testing is completed, the software will be released to all the AirPods, which could be in fall this year.

Apple has officially increased the prices of all of its AirPods models in the market. The company has hiked the prices of AirPods Pro, AirPods 3rd Gen, AirPods 2nd Gen and even the AirPods Max. The prices have gone up by a minimum of Rs. 1,200 and the change is currently effective on Apple.com.

Starting with the Apple AirPods 2nd Gen, which is the cheapest AirPods available right now, costs Rs. 14,100. This is a Rs. 1,200 increase from the old price of Rs. 12,900. The AirPods 3rd Gen now cost Rs. 20,500 as compared to the old price of Rs. 18,500.

The AirPods Pro 3rd Gen, which was priced at Rs. 24,900 previously now costs Rs. 26,300. Lastly, the AirPods Max, which was priced at Rs. 59,900 is now available for Rs. 66,100. This is an increase of Rs. 6,200.

Interestingly, the price is changed only on the Apple.com website and not on other retail sites like Flipkart and Amazon. That said, those who were looking to buy any of these audio products from Apple should immediately head to Flipkart or Amazon and purchase them at the old price.

Apple AirPods Pro are the most high-end true wireless earphones offering from the company so far and the company is gearing up to launch its successor, dubbed AirPods Pro 2 in the coming months.

The company is slowly adding some of the Pro features to the non-Pro models of AirPods but to make sure that the Pro packs unique features to set the model apart from others, Apple has some new features in the making.

The Cupertino-based tech giant has filed a new patent application for a new feature on the AirPods Pro, titled “Interrupt for noise-canceling audio devices” which is basically an automatic transparency mode.

With this feature, users will be able to determine in advance when the Active Noise Cancellation feature should get paused. For this, the user can set the feature to be interrupted by one or more pre-defined contacts that are identified by electronic devices or through verbal commands, either via sound recognition or trigger words.

This means that the Active Noise Cancellation feature will remain active for the AirPods Pro but when the user comes in contact with someone who is in the list of contacts allowed to interrupt, then the earphones will switch to Transparency Mode.

It won’t be limited to the other contacts only as the patent notes that the system can also recognize important sounds such as police or ambulance sirens, or smoke or fire alarms, and those sounds can also be set as triggers to switch the mode.

While the patent was originally filed by Apple last year in July, there’s no guarantee that the feature will make it to the AirPods Pro anytime soon. The patent is just an indication that the company is working on developing this.

As for the AirPods Pro 2, the devices are expected to go official in the fall this year, along with a bunch of other Apple products. There are rumors that the TWS earbuds could come with a revamped design as well as new health-related features.

Apple has rolled out a new firmware update for the AirPods Pro as well as the AirPods Max which brings the support for finding the products if you misplace them, using the brand’s own Find My application.

The feature was teased by Apple in June at WWDC and was set to be introduced along with the iOS 15. While the feature didn’t show up with the iOS 15, thankfully, the company didn’t take much longer after the delay.

With this new firmware update, the compatible AirPods models get functionality inside of the Find My app, including precise location, a new Nearby Finding UI, Lost Mode, and the ability to get notifications when the earbuds are left behind.

There’s also an AirTag-like Find Nearby interface but given that the products don’t come with the U1 chips installed, the feature isn’t quite as precise as with an AirTag. You won’t be getting arrows pointing towards them, but the onscreen prompts will show statuses like far, near, or “here” depending on how close you are.

Before you take advantage of the new feature, you will need to update your AirPods to the just-released firmware. This isn’t a straightforward process as you need to place the charged AirPods in the case and then place it near a connected phone.

To check the firmware version of your AirPods, go to the Settings on your iPhone/iPad and then navigate to General > About. There, choose AirPods and you will see a field labeled “firmware version.” The new firmware version with Find My support is 4A400.

The addition of AirPods Pro and AirPods Max in the Find My network means that they will now send out a continuous Bluetooth beacon message. When other Apple devices are in the area, they can detect this signal and report it to the Find My network, placing its location on the owner’s map.

It’s been some time since reports about the launch of AirPods 3 true wireless earphones started surfacing online. After several Apple events announcing new products, the AirPods 3 still remains unannounced.

In the latest development, it is claimed that the Apple AirPods 3 have already entered production and the suppliers have also started shipping the product to Apple. It adds that the initial shipments were low.

The low initial shipments of the third-generation of Apple AirPods TWS earbuds explain why the product wasn’t made official at the iPhone 13 series launch event. Given that Apple has now enough shipments, the company is now expected to officially launch the AirPods 3 earphones by the end of this year.

In that case, we expect the next-generation AirPods to get announced at the launch event next month. While Apple has not yet confirmed this, but the technology giant is speculated to host a new launch event next month which will be focusing on new Mac devices powered by the M1X chipset. We expect the second-generation of AirPods Pro to also get launched along with the third-generation of AirPods.

An image of the upcoming AirPods 3 has already leaked online, revealing the earphones’ design. The earbuds will come with a short stem and a sensor, as well as a microphone on the front. The image showcases the earbuds in the standard White color shade.

It is also expected to come powered by a new chipset and is said to support Apple Music Lossless Audio. Additionally, the earbuds are expected to come with good battery life performance compared to the AirPods 2.

OnePlus announced the OnePlus Buds Pro alongside the OnePlus Nord 2. These new pair of truly wireless earphones are the company’s first with support for ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). The product is set to go official in China on July 29. Ahead of that, Pete Lau, the brand’s CEO, compares them with the Apple AirPods Pro on Weibo.

Pete Lau has been teasing the features of the OnePlus Buds Pro on Weibo since yesterday (July 26). However, it is worth noting that this product is already official in global markets and it is scheduled to go on sale from late August. Hence, we know everything about it.

So why is he teasing the features of a product which is already official? Because the price reveal for the Chinese market will be happening on July 29. The brand is also expected to announce the sale date on the same day.

Coming to the main topic, as per Pete Lau, the OnePlus Buds Pro offers better low-frequency noise cancellation than the Apple AirPods Pro. This is a bold claim as Apple’s premium TWS has set a benchmark for truly wireless earphones since its release.

Pete says that Apple is a strong competitor since it also ‘values the experience and pursues the ultimate’. Hence, his brand has one-upped the performance of the OnePlus Buds Pro over the AirPods Pro by doing a  lot of special comparisons and optimization adjustments.

Last but not least, he believes if a OnePlus product has become better than Apple’s, then his brand’s products must have reached a higher level to a certain extent.

Last year, Apple launched the AirPods Pro true wireless earphones, bringing active noise cancellation functionality to the company’s AirPods lineup. Now, the company is expected to soon launch its successor, but with a different design.

Compared to the current-generation model, the upcoming AirPods Pro is expected to have a more rounder-shaped earphone design. It will continue to have the in-ear design, offering active noise cancellation feature support.

As for the charging case, the shape is pretty much the same as what the company currently offers. However, reports indicate that the carrying case may be a bit compact and lighter in weight compared to the current model.

Internally, the AirPods Pro second-generation model is expected to be powered by the Apple H1 chipset, the same chipset that powers most of the AirPods series devices, including the current-generation of AirPods Pro.

While the audio experience for the upcoming version is expected to be the same as what the current model offers, the AirPods Pro 2 could come with some additional features, including support for water resistance, among others.

There are also reports which indicate that the AirPods Pro could come in two different sizes — one regular and another larger. However, to know for sure what Apple has up its sleeves, we’ll have to wait for the official launch in the coming months.

TWS earbuds are the new craze this year and it looks like brands won’t be happy with just one or two earbuds models in the market this year. Realme already has three TWS earbuds to its name but it seems to be working on a new model with an Airpods Pro-like design. The brand has patented three designs: two earbuds cases and one design for earbuds at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The recently patented Realme earbuds design (first spotted by 91Mobiles) is interesting because it seems to be inspired by the Airpods Pro. So it features a similar in-ear design along with a long stem as the Apple earbuds. The other two patents are for the charging cases, one with a round design and another one with a flatter, oval design. Both the patented cases featured an LED indicator, USB-C port for charging, and a button – likely for pairing.

Realme’s current earbuds, the Realme Buds Air and Buds Air Neo feature an open design, but the Realme Buds Q that was launched last week comes with an in-ear design, similar to the Galaxy Buds. So it looks like the company wants to experiment with the in-ear design on a new model in the future.

As always, we would like to add that this is just a patent and it remains to be seen if this design would translate into a real product in the coming months.

In an interesting move, the Xiaomi Youpin platform has now started selling Apple’s true wireless earbuds — AirPods lineup in China. As said, while the move is interesting, it is not surprising given that Youpin is just another e-commerce platform. In addition to Xiaomi, Mijia, and other Xiaomi ecosystem products, Xiaomi Youpin has a lot of third party products too.

Apart from the AirPods series, the company is already selling a few other Apple products on its e-commerce platform, including Apple Watch Series 5, Apple Watch Series 4, iPad Air, and iPad Pro among others.

Coming to the AirPods, there are three models listed on the platform — Apple AirPods 2 and Apple AirPods Pro. The company is selling both the variants of the AirPods 2, with and without a wireless charging case.

Apple recently launched its new true-wireless earbuds named AirPods Pro, which comes with the much anticipated active noise cancellation feature. However, it seems that the tech giant isn’t done yet and is set to launch a new version of AirPods Pro.

Taiwan-based publication DigiTimes has shared a preview of its upcoming story to its subscribers in which it continues to claim that Apple is planning to launch a new version of the AirPods Pro.

In the story preview, the publication writes: “USI likely to enter supply chain of AirPods Pro, sources say: Taiwan-based Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), a unit of ASE Technology, is likely to obtain system-in-package (SiP) orders for the upcoming AirPods Pro, according to industry sources.”

It seems that the upcoming AirPods Pro models are the same that the publication had previously referred as AirPods Pro Lite. This means these are entry-level earbuds and will be priced lower than the current AirPods Pro available in the market.

However, there’s no information available about the specs and features of the AirPods Pro Lite. The report further claims that the production for the same is likely to begin by the end of Q2 2020 or later given the current situation in China because of coronavirus outbreak.

We are not sure if the company will call the upcoming earbuds “AirPods Pro Lite” which doesn’t make sense as it has both “Pro” and “Lite” in its name. However, the essence of the report is that an affordable variant of the Apple AirPods Pro with similar sound design, quality will launch, but without active noise cancellation.

Currently, there’s nothing much known about this upcoming product but if the report is true, we expect to know more about the device in the coming weeks.

The report notes that components sourced in China are easy to ship to Vietnam, and Vietnam’s labor costs are about one-third of China’s.

Analysts believe that the AirPods are headed towards mass-market domination, which could soon result in quarterly revenue over $4 billion during the holiday season. Industry analyst Asymco believes that Apple will witness 50% YoY growth for wearables.

According to Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi, Apple sold $6 billion worth of AirPods this year and is set to rake in $15 billion in revenue from the true wireless earbuds in 2020. It is said that Apple could sell as many as 85 million AirPods next year, making AirPods the company’s third-largest business after iPhones and iPads by 2021.

Apple has been long anticipated to launch a pair of TWS earphones which would support active noise cancellation. While they have previously been claimed to launch on numerous occasions, unfortunately, all of them have turned out false. However, last month the logo of redesigned AirPods was discovered in the source code of the latest beta version of iOS. According to a fresh report published by China Economic Daily, we won’t have to wait for long as the long-awaited “AirPods Pro” will launch before the end of October. In terms of pricing, they are reported to cost NT$ 8,000 before taxes which roughly translates to US $ 260. Their higher price tag also strengthens the assumption of them coexisting with the standards AirPods which are sold at a price of $ 199 inclusive of taxes.

Although the final design is yet to be publicised by Apple, based upon leaks and reports, several renders have been made, out of which one is shared below.

In comparison to the current variant, these feature an in-ear style design with silicon buds which would prevent them from slipping outside of the ear while working or performing other intensive physical activities. Besides, their stem has also be reworked which would allow them to fit in a smaller charging case whose image is shared above.

To wrap things, the launch of the AirPods Pro seems imminent, however, we will have to wait until the official announcement to obtain precise details including its exact price.
