Today, at a press event, Huawei has announced the launch of its Mate 10 smartphone series in China. The company has launched three smartphones — Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Edition.

The Mate 10 series phones come in a metal body with thin bezels. The Mate 10 comes with a 5.9-inch display with screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, with a 16:9 aspect ratio, while the Mate 10 Pro features a 6-inch FHD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Interestingly, in China, Mate 10 comes in two variants — 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM and 128GB. Earlier, the company had announced just one model, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. This could mean that the 6GB RAM variant of Mate 10 is China-exclusive but there is no confirmation yet regarding this.

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro comes with 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM and 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variants. While the Mate 10 has a fingerprint sensor on the front, incorporated in the home button, Mate 10 Pro features fingerprint sensor at the back.

Both the smartphones are powered by the company’s own Kirin 970 processor and a 4,000mAh battery which also supports SuperCharge fast charging. The devices run on Android Oreo-based EMUI 8.0.

Huawei has partnered with Leica for the cameras. The smartphones come with 12MP RGB + 20MP monochrome sensors at the back. It has 4-in-1 hybrid focus, hybrid zoom, and OIS. There is also an 8MP F/2.2 front-facing camera sensor.

Interestingly, the pricing for the Mate 10 series is cheaper than its pricing in the European market. In China, the Huawei Mate 10 is priced at 3,899 Yuan for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version while the 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage model costs 4,499 Yuan. It will be available in four color options — Black, Brown, Gold and Pink.

On the other hand, the Pro edition with 6GB RAM + 64GB internal storage is priced at 4,899 Yuan and the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant costs 5,399 Yuan. It will be available in Blue, Brown and Grey colors.

The Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Edition, which comes with 6GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, is priced at 8,999 Yuan and will be available in Black color.

While the Mate 10 will go on sale from today, the other two models will go on sale from 15th November. The smartphones will be available for purchase from the official Huawei store and other authorised resellers.

Huawei is expected to officially launch the Mate 10 alongside the Mate 10 Pro and perhaps Mate 10 Porsche Edition later today while it will debut in China on October 20. The Mate 10 series have had quite a lot of hype surrounding its launch. The is mainly as a result of the AI-capable Kirin 970 chip which would fire up the device. Sure, we’d love to see how the AI works since Huawei touts it to be more than a voice assistant. Ahead of the launch, the real shots of the Huawei Mate 10 have leaked, captured from all sides, with the packaging box inclusive. 

Interestingly, we have seen quite a number of leaked photos of the Mate 10 Pro but the Mate 10 has been quite rare in leaks. But from the look of things, both models will have little differences between them. The major difference is expected to be the Mate 10 Pro’s curved edge design. The screen resolution may be another point of difference as the Mate 10 is listed with a Full HD resolution while the Mate 10 Pro is expected with a Quad HD (1440 x 2880 pixels) display and a more classic 16:9 screen aspect ratio. The Mate 10 seems to also have a curved edge design at the back which is made of glass. The rear camera bump looks like that seen on the Mate 10 pro with a reduced bump. The camera is a dual camera setup aligned vertically with the LED flash by its side. The front view shows the device will feature ultra-thin bezels at the chin and would come with a high screen-to-body ratio.

Specs wise, the Huawei Mate 10 is expected to have a 5.9-inch display with 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution and would be powered by a Kirin 970 chip, which is Huawei’s first 10nm chip and one with AI capabilities. One of the photos shows that what we have here is the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version. Interestingly, it is listed as running EMUI 8 based on Android 8 Oreo but we are actually expecting EMUI 6 as the next version of Huawei customised Android skin. The Mate 10 packs a Leica-branded camera setup which is still a 12MP main sensor teaming up with a 20MP monochrome sensor just like was featured on the Mate 9 and Huawei P10.

Huawei Mate 10 series is launching on October 16, at an event in Germany. After the press renders and the specs of Mate 10 Pro, we now have the specifications of the upcoming Mate 10.

As per the latest information, the Huawei Mate 10 will feature a 6.2-inch display with a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, and display ratio of 18:9. The leaked designs suggest that the display will cover most area on the front side. It will be powered by the company’s own Kirin 970 processor — the same processor that will be on Mate 10 Pro.

Interestingly, the Mate 10 won’t have a bezel-less display or full-screen design. Instead, it appears from the previously leaked images that the bezel-less, full-screen model would be the Mate 10 Pro.

Coming to the camera department, the smartphone will boast a dual camera setup consisting of the next-generation Leica lens. While one lens will be of 20-megapixel, another lens will be of 23-megapixel. The 20 MP lens is the main sensor while the 23 MP lens is the monochrome sensor — the same setup that we saw on the Mate 9 and Huawei P10.

The phone will have a 4,000mAh battery, same capacity as of its predecessor. However, given the battery optimization of Kirin 970, we expect Mate 10’s battery performance to be better than Mate 9. The device is expected to come with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.

It is expected come in three different variants based on the memory. It will have two RAM options — 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM. The variant having a 4GB + 64GB storage combo will carry a price tag of 4299 Yuan. The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage is expected to be priced at 4899 Yuan ($744) while the topmost model with 6GB + 256GB combo would cost 5599 Yuan.

The Huawei Mate 10 has already passed the 3C certification with model number ALP-AL00. The charger model with HW-050450C00 has also been passed, which supports 5V/2A, 4.5V/5A and 5V/4.5A charge output. It will also support fast charging.

Huawei’s upcoming Mate 10 flagship was leaked yesterday showing us the design it would adorn on launch day billed for October 16. The design showed the Mate 10 would have a full-screen design but with a considerable amount of bezels and a physical home button. The Mate 10 Pro was said to be the bezel-less model between the duo and would be launched alongside the Mate 10.

It might interest you to know that a couple of fresh leaks bothering on the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro’s display panels, specifications and price tag have appeared online. The screen for the two smartphones is pictured above and shows the Mate 10 will have the same height as the Mate 10 Pro but the Mate 10 Pro will be slightly wider. A front home key on the Mate 10 and wider bezels at the top and bottom edges differentiate the two from each other.

The leaker who leaked the display also shared the specifications and prices of the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. The Mate 10 is expected with a 5.99-inch 2k EntireView display with 18:9 aspect ratio and is listed with a 4200mAh battery with fast charging support. The Mate 10 will come in three variants with 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM. The variant having a 4GB + 64GB storage combo will clutch a price tag of 4299 Yuan ($650). Secondly, the version with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage will go up for 4899 Yuan ($744) while the topmost model will have a 6GB + 256GB combo and would retail for 5599 Yuan ($850).

On the other hand, the Mate 10 Pro will feature a 6.0-inch 2K display with a similar 18:9 aspect ratio. Just like the Mate 10, it will have an IP67 certification and of course would be powered by a Kirin 970 chip, same as the Mate 10. It would pack a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, curved edges and almost 90% screen-to-body ratio. The Mate 10 Pro will also get its juice from a 4,200mAH battery. Talking about the prices, the leaked data shows the Mate 10 Pro will come in four variants: 6 GB + 64 GB priced at 5,499 Yuan ($835), 6 GB + 128 GB with a price tag of 6,199 Yuan ($941), 6 GB + 256 GB for 6,899 Yuan ($1,042) and a topmost version having a monstrous 8 GB + 256 GB combo which would retail for 7,499 Yuan ($1,138). It’s been barely a week since a report emerged that Huawei will begin mass production of the Kirin 970 chip that would feature on its upcoming Mate 10 flagship in September. A new rumour has sprung up from Poland alleging that the Huawei Mate 10 would make its grand debut in October. The rumour was even specific about the launch date being October 16 and the venue to be in Munich. The Huawei P10 was first launched in Europe as well before it was unveiled in China.

The Mate 10 is expected as the final flagship that would be released by the Chinese tech giant this year. It is coming on the heels of the launch of the Huawei P10 earlier in the year, and then the Honor 9 which was launched not too long. The Mate 10 will be the giant of them all, with it size traditionally being phablet size.The device is expected with a 6-inch JDI display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution. The device will feature a Kirin 970 chip, which would Huawei’s first 10nm chip.

The rumour also listed the price tag of the Mate 10 to fall on the region of PLN4,000 in Poland, which is around $1100. In addition to the Mate 10, Huawei is also said to be working on a Mate 10 Lite which would cost half the price of the Mate 10 at PLN1,999 (~$556) and as you’d guess, would have a slightly reduced size from the Mate 10 and it is rumoured to be 5.8 inches. The price tag looks way outrageous and cut off from reality but then, the Mate 10 is meant to rival the iPhone 8 which is expected to have a hefty price tag. But then, Huawei isn’t Apple and doesn’t even have any model which sells as high as $800 and even the Mate 9 is priced less than $800.  This is just a rumour and so, should be taken with a pinch of salt.
