Caviar has announced the iPhone 2007, a custom version of the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max designed to celebrate Apple’s 50th anniversary. The luxury customization brand built this limited-edition smartphone with a unique feature: a fragment of the original iPhone 2G motherboard embedded in its back panel.

Design Details

The company designed the iPhone 2007 to honor the 2007 launch of Apple’s first iPhone. Caviar placed the motherboard fragment inside a capsule shaped like Apple’s iconic logo. The capsule sits at the center of the phone’s rear panel, surrounded by engraved lines that mirror the circuitry of the first-generation iPhone.

Caviar constructed the casing of the device from titanium with a black PVD coating. The design includes Steve Jobs’ engraved signature as well. Each phone also features a custom Apple 50 commemorative screensaver, designed exclusively for this edition.

The company limited production to just 11 units globally to enhance exclusivity. Each phone ships in a premium gift box that includes a commemorative coin plated in 999 fine gold and a signature Caviar key featuring gold accents.

Pricing and Availability

The pricing starts at $10,770 for the iPhone 17 Pro (256GB) and goes up to $11,490 for the 1TB version. For the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it starts at $11,270 for the 256GB model and reaches $12,700 for the 2TB version.

The company also recently launched the Jobs’ Turtleneck edition, which, according to the company, has already officially sold out.

Apple’s latest hardware is doing something pretty unexpected on the AI side, though it comes with a clear catch. The iPhone 17 Pro has been shown running a 400-billion parameter language model locally, which sounds almost unreal for a phone.

The demo comes from an open-source project called Flash-MoE, shared by developer @anemll. Models of this size usually need well over 200GB of memory to even load, so getting one to run on a device with 12GB of RAM shouldn’t really be possible in the usual sense.

What’s happening here is a bit different. Instead of loading the whole model into memory, the system pulls in pieces from storage as needed. It also relies on a Mixture of Experts setup, where only a small portion of the model is active at any given moment. That combination is what makes it run at all.

The problem is speed. Or rather, the lack of it. The model generates at about 0.6 tokens per second, which means you’re waiting a couple of seconds for a single word. It’s slow enough that even simple prompts start to feel like a test of patience. Battery drain is another likely issue here, though that’s expected with this kind of workload.

Still, it’s interesting to see. Not because it’s usable right now, but because it shows where things might be heading. Running something this large entirely on-device, without relying on the cloud, wasn’t even part of the conversation not too long ago.

For now, though, there’s a clear gap between what’s possible and what actually makes sense to use. Smaller models are still the practical choice. But experiments like this do give a glimpse of what future phones might eventually handle more comfortably.

US accessory maker SANDMARC has officially introduced a new telephoto add-on built specifically for Apple’s latest iPhones. Called the Tetraprism 72mm lens, the accessory is designed to mount onto compatible iPhone models and extend their native zoom capabilities by an additional 3x.

The lens is fairly substantial in size. It weighs 180 grams, measures 70mm in height, and has a 40.5mm diameter. There’s also a 17mm threaded mount built into the design. The size is closer to a compact camera lens that happens to connect to your phone.

SANDMARC Tetraprism 72mm lens for iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro

According to SANDMARC, the lens is tuned specifically for the quad prism telephoto system expected on the iPhone 17 Pro series. When paired together, the company says the setup can reach up to 24x zoom through optical magnification. 

The accessory also works with older models. On the iPhone 16 Pro series and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, SANDMARC claims users can achieve up to 15x hybrid zoom. 

The main pitch here is image quality at distance. Instead of relying heavily on digital cropping, the Tetraprism 72mm lens uses multi-element, multi-layer coated glass to reduce glare and maintain color accuracy. The company also points to improved optical compression, which can help with subject separation and give photos more natural depth. 

The design is modular. It attaches directly to a dedicated iPhone lens case and works with other SANDMARC filters and accessories. The company says the lens is good for wildlife photography, events, and landscape clicks. 

Chinese smartphone makers, in particular, have started offering a teleconverter set for their Ultra phones on their own. The latest Xiaomi 17 Ultra, for instance, comes with a 4.3x teleconverter lens.

It’s unlikely that Apple will explore this route anytime soon. So our best bet is to rely on accessory brands like SANDMARC for it.

Apple used Grade 5 titanium for the iPhone 15 Pro series, an alloy known for its strength and corrosion resistance. At the time, this dual-material approach seemed like an innovative solution that balanced premium aesthetics with functional performance.

The Problems That Killed Titanium

Titanium came with significant trade-offs that quickly became apparent. Its poor thermal conductivity created overheating issues during gaming, fast charging, and other demanding tasks. As Apple introduced more powerful chips like the A17 Pro, heat management became a critical challenge. This limitation undermined the performance benefits Apple aimed to deliver with its flagship devices.

Production challenges also made titanium less practical. Machining titanium required specialized tools, slower production speeds, and resulted in higher scrap rates. While the material itself added only $30-$40 to production, the iPhone 15 Pro’s $400 price premium over the base iPhone 15 relied heavily on titanium as a justification. The combination of high costs and limited benefits made titanium difficult to sustain as a flagship material.

Why Aluminum is a Better Fit for the iPhone 17 Pro

Apple’s return to aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro addresses many of the issues titanium created. Aluminum conducts heat far better than titanium, making it a better choice for managing the heat generated by the new A19 Pro chip and the vapor chamber cooling system. This change improves thermal performance and allows Apple to include a larger battery.

Aluminum also reduces production complexity. It is easier to machine, faster to produce, and more cost-effective at scale. The material aligns better with Apple’s environmental goals, as aluminum has a smaller carbon footprint than titanium. Apple’s partnerships with low-carbon aluminum smelters and its efficient recycling processes make aluminum a sustainable choice for the company’s carbon neutrality targets.

Aluminum also enables new design possibilities. Unlike titanium, which limits anodization options, aluminum allows for a broader range of colors. The iPhone 17 Pro introduces new finishes, including dark blue and orange, which were not feasible with titanium. This change gives Apple more flexibility to appeal to users who value customization.

Was Titanium Ever Worth It?

Titanium provided real benefits, but they were marginal for most users. While it improved durability and reduced weight, these advantages mattered less to people who used protective cases. The higher price and the thermal challenges outweighed its benefits. PGYTECH is taking a slightly unusual approach to mobile photography with its new RetroVa Vintage Imaging Kit, a Kickstarter project that turns recent iPhones into something that feels closer to a compact mirrorless camera than a phone with accessories bolted on.

The idea isn’t entirely new. Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo have already experimented with external camera modules and add-on optics, but RetroVa is one of the first attempts to bring that concept properly to iPhones.

The kit is designed for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the iPhone 17 Pro lineup, with hints that future models could also be supported. It’s clearly aimed at users who are happy with their phone but frustrated by the limits of smartphone zoom.

There are two main versions of the kit. The entry-level option is a grip and case combo that adds a proper camera-style handle to the iPhone. It includes a two-stage shutter button, a zoom rocker, a control dial, and extra buttons that can be mapped to settings like ISO or exposure. The goal here isn’t just convenience, it’s to make shooting feel more deliberate and controlled, closer to using a dedicated camera.

The more expensive bundle adds a screw-on 2.35x telephoto extender. When paired with the iPhone 17 Pro’s 4x telephoto camera, this pushes the effective focal length to around 235mm equivalent, or 10x optical zoom. On the iPhone 16 Pro’s 5x lens, it goes up to 12x. The promise is cleaner results than digital zoom can offer, especially for wildlife, sports, or events.

One of the more interesting touches is the built-in microSD card slot for creators, which reportedly allows direct recording of ProRes video. There’s also a companion app with manual controls and a retro-inspired interface, though the grip itself has only a small battery meant to power its controls.

The Kickstarter campaign launched in late January 2026 and has already passed its funding goal comfortably. Shipping is planned for March and April, depending on the kit.

It’s still a crowdfunded product, so there’s the usual risk involved. But for iPhone users who want better zoom and more hands-on control — without buying a new phone or a separate camera — RetroVa is an interesting experiment.

The ongoing global DRAM shortage is starting to squeeze Apple’s margins, and the iPhone 17 lineup may be the first to feel that pressure. A new report claims Apple is facing a dramatic spike in DRAM, raising questions about how much longer it can absorb rising component costs without passing them on to consumers.

According to the report, the cost of 12GB LPDDR5X RAM used in the iPhone 17 Pro models has surged from $25 to $29 per unit to $70. That’s a staggering 230% surge, which would unsurprisingly hurt almost any company.

Apple usually avoids these shocks thanks to long-term supply contracts that lock in component pricing well in advance. But DRAM appears to be a tougher problem for Apple to sidestep this time.

Apple’s existing DRAM supply agreements with SK Hynix and Samsung are rumored to expire in January 2026. Once those contracts end, Apple will need to renegotiate pricing, and under current market conditions, it’s hard to imagine the company securing anything close to the old $25-per-unit rate.

The latest rumors suggest Apple is already preparing countermeasures. The company is relatively in a strong position for now, but that buffer won’t last forever.

Apple is also forced to join hands with Samsung

The situation appears even more dire when considering broader industry trends. SK Hynix and Micron are reportedly scaling back LPDDR memory production to focus on high-margin HBM memory, which is in massive demand for AI accelerators and data centers. As a result, Apple may end up relying heavily on Samsung for RAM in the iPhone 18 series.

A near-monopoly of that kind would weaken Apple’s negotiating power. If talks fall apart, Apple could be forced to raise iPhone prices, especially since the iPhone 18 lineup is rumored to adopt six-channel LPDDR5X memory to boost bandwidth and AI performance.

The upgrade makes sense on paper, but it also means Apple will need even more DRAM at a time when prices are already inflated.

If DRAM costs stay near $70 per unit, Apple may have little choice but to pass some of that expense on to consumers.

The large high resolution sensors are perfect for those vloggers and content creators. This is a tiny 1.6-inch circular AMOLED display with touchscreen support and 480 x 480p resolution. Dockcase’s Selfix case promises a zero lag experience and doesn’t require any dedicated companion app. But that’s not all, buyers also get a dedicated power button to allow users to switch the secondary screen on and off. There is even a PD 3.0 USB Type-C port that supports up to 100W input.

It’s unclear what’s causing the issue or how widespread it is, but reports are appearing across multiple social media platforms, including Reddit, Facebook, and TikTok. So it may have affected a notable number of users.

According to Bloomberg, the standard iPhone 17 won’t look too different from the iPhone 16 but will carry a larger screen and improved cameras. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are said to feature a redesigned back with an expanded camera area that spans across the width of the phone.

The biggest shift, however, comes from the thinner iPhone 17 model. Apple is introducing a design that’s about 2 millimeters slimmer than existing devices. The trade-off will be a shorter battery life and a single rear camera, but Apple is betting that the sleek form factor will appeal to new buyers.

As for the price, the iPhone 17 could start at $799, while the Pro is expected to come in at $1,099 and the Pro Max at $1,199. The Air will sit somewhere in between, ranging from $899 to $1,299.

Beyond the iPhone, Apple is also expected to announce an updated Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch SE 3 . The company is lining up a busy product cycle for the entire 2026 with a faster Vision Pro headset, a refreshed iPad Pro running on the M5 chip, and even new versions of the HomePod mini and Apple TV all in the pipeline.

As the smartphone industry charges toward fall 2025, the camera wars are heating up in a big way. Whether you’re a pro photographer or a casual shooter, these five upcoming smartphones, spanning Apple, Google, Vivo, and Xiaomi, are gearing up to redefine what mobile photography can do. Based on confirmed specs, leaks, and credible tipsters, here’s a detailed look at the most camera-centric phones set to debut in the coming weeks and months.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

Apple is preparing to introduce its most significant front camera upgrade in years. All iPhone 17 models are expected to feature a new 24MP selfie camera, doubling the resolution found on the iPhone 16 series. This will improve image clarity and provide more flexibility when cropping.

The Pro Max model will stand out with a 48MP Wide, 48MP Ultra Wide, and 48MP Tetraprism Telephoto camera. This would make it the first iPhone to include three 48MP sensors and could also introduce native 8K video recording. Apple may also add support for dual video recording and a mechanical aperture system on the Pro models, giving users control over depth of field in photos.

The Pro Max could include an upgraded 8x optical zoom lens, a step up from the current 5x zoom on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Pro models will remain the only iPhones with a dedicated telephoto lens, while the standard iPhone 17 and 17 Air will not include any optical zoom.

Google Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL

Google is expected to continue using the same camera configuration as last year on the Pixel 10 Pro series. Both the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL will include a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP 5x telephoto lens. The front camera will use a 42MP sensor.

This year, both the ultra-wide and telephoto cameras will support macro photography. The ultra-wide sensor can focus as close as 2cm, while the telephoto can deliver brighter macro images with a minimum focusing distance of around 10cm.

The Pro XL will include a 5,200mAh battery and faster 39W wired charging. The standard Pro model will come with a slightly smaller 4,870mAh battery and 29W charging. Both devices will use Google’s new Tensor G5 processor and will run Android 16 out of the box.

Xiaomi 16 Pro

Xiaomi plans to upgrade the front-facing camera on the 16 Pro to a new 50MP sensor. The new camera will include autofocus, a wide field of view, and support for 4K at 60fps. This is a major improvement over the 32MP sensor used since the Xiaomi 13 series.

The rear camera setup will include a 50MP 1/1.3-inch primary sensor. The Pro model is expected to benefit from improved Leica image tuning and a ToF sensor to enhance portrait photography and depth accuracy.

The 16 Pro will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset and could launch in late September.

Vivo X300 Pro

Vivo is preparing the X300 Pro with one of the most powerful camera systems in any upcoming smartphone. The device is expected to feature a 50MP Sony LYT-828 main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens with a 1/1.4-inch sensor.

The main sensor will support Hybrid Frame HDR and a dynamic range exceeding 100dB. The periscope camera is expected to include new lens coating technology to reduce flare. Vivo may also offer high-quality in-sensor zoom modes at 35mm and 50mm crop lengths.

The X300 Pro will launch with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset and could be the first phone to ship with that chip. Vivo is expected to unveil the X300 Pro by October.

Luxury brand Caviar has unveiled its latest smartphone customization collection, the “Desperado” series, featuring three weapon-inspired iPhone models that incorporate mechanical elements and premium materials. The collection is available for both Apple‘s current iPhone 16 Pro lineup and the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro series.

Design Details

The flagship model, “Russian Roulette,” features a functional mechanical rotating revolver cylinder embedded in the phone’s rear panel, complete with a single gold cartridge. Users can spin the cylinder mechanism, which Caviar emphasizes poses “zero risk to life.” The device incorporates gold and silver engravings inspired by premium firearm detailing across its titanium body. Production is limited to 19 units worldwide.

The “Die Hard” model showcases a miniature Beretta 92 pistol rendered in bas-relief on the phone’s titanium body. The design includes a walnut wood grip section and aviation-grade titanium construction with specialized engravings. This variant is limited to 20 pieces, matching the magazine capacity of the actual Beretta 92.

Completing the collection is “The Predator,” which features a titanium relief of the survival machete from the 1987 film. The model utilizes black PVD-coated titanium and includes botanical-themed engravings. Like the Russian Roulette model, production is capped at 19 units.

Pricing and Availability

Caviar has announced pricing for both iPhone generations. For the current iPhone 16 Pro series with 128GB storage, The Predator is priced at $8,410, Die Hard at $8,840, and Russian Roulette at $9,990.

The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro variants will command a premium, with The Predator priced at $9,410, Die Hard at $9,845, and the flagship Russian Roulette model at $10,985 for the same 128GB configuration.

The collection is currently available for both the iPhone 16 Pro series and pre-orders for the iPhone 17 Pro variants, which will be ready following Apple’s anticipated September launch.

Each model includes Caviar’s signature packaging with a collectible coin and ceremonial key.

Apple is set to launch the iPhone 17 lineup next month with a revamped camera island design. However, those models won’t be the first to bring that design to market — a knock-off version of the Pro model has already appeared with the same large camera island. Check out the images below.

This knock-off iPhone 17 Pro runs on a version of Android and imitates iOS 18 (last year’s version) more than the upcoming iOS 26. The bezels around the display aren’t symmetrical, and the wide chin makes it obvious it’s a fake. It also appears to use an LCD panel instead of AMOLED.

However, the back design — including the camera lenses — is surprisingly accurate, closely matching the renders of the real iPhone 17 Pro. Without a side-by-side comparison, it could be hard to tell them apart.

That said, buyers should always pay attention to the details when purchasing an iPhone or any other expensive Android phone from unofficial channels, especially if it’s being offered at a steep discount.

As for the real iPhone 17 Pro, it’s expected to deliver notable camera upgrades: the selfie camera could jump from 12MP to 24MP, and the 5x telephoto from 12MP to 48MP. The main camera, however, is expected to remain unchanged, with no sensor size or resolution bump. Powering the phone will be Apple’s new A19 Pro chipset, promising better performance along with improved thermal management and battery life. Leaks also suggest it could ship with 12GB RAM as standard, up from 8GB last year.
