On Sunday, April 22, Meizu will announce its new flagship phone – the Meizu 15. The Meizu 15 will come along with Lite and Plus variants, but the three phones may not be the only products launching that day.

A new teaser on Meizu’s official Twitter page hints at the launch of new earphones too. The tweet which was posted yesterday says “A new sound. One week left” and includes a photo which has an audio theme.

Last year, when Meizu announced the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus, it also announced the Meizu Flow earphones. The Meizu Flow is a pair of wired earphones created together with the Institute of Acoustics and Japanese designer Kosho Tsuboi.

The Meizu Flow has an upgraded version called the Meizu Flow Bass earlier this year. Both the Flow and the Flow Bass are available on Meizu’s site for the same ¥599 (~$95) price.

The new Meizu earphones may also be wired since it doesn’t seem Meizu is ditching the 3.5mm audio jack soon. Whatever the price may be, we guess buying it along with the any of the Meizu 15 phones will get you a discount.

Meizu had its launch event today and the Chinese manufacturer announced two new earphones – the Meizu Live and Meizu Flow Bass.

Meizu Live

The Meizu Live is a mix of transparent polycarbonate and metal parts constructed using metal powder metallurgy. Inside the earphones are four precisely engineered moving iron units which have low frequency armatures and  medium and high frequency armatures.

The Meizu Live uses an MMCX connector and comes with replaceable tuning nozzles that allow you to change the frequency as you deem fit. It also comes with 7 pairs of earbuds of different sizes and an IPX7 rated carrying case.

The Meizu Live will come in silver and will sell for ¥1299 (~$202) when it goes on sale on January 19.

Meizu Flow Bass

Meizu also announced the Meizu Flow Bass, an upgraded version of the Meizu Flow announced alongside the Pro7 and Pro7 Plus last year. It keeps the three-unit design but now comes with a bass+ system. It has a near identical design as the original flow save for the color which is now Aurora Gray.

The new Meizu Flow Bass will sell for ¥599 (~$93), same price as the original Meizu Flow. However, if you purchase it with the Meizu M6s, you get it for ¥499 (~$78).

The Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus smartphones were not the only devices announced by Meizu yesterday. The Chinese manufacturer also launched the Meizu Flow Earphones.

The Flow Earphones is a collaborative work between Meizu Acoustics and Japanese ID Designer, Ping Jing Hao. They also worked with the Institute of Acoustics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences to fine tune the earphones.

Meizu has worked hard at making the Flow as great as possible. With its history as a MP3 Player manufacturer, expect the Flow to provide high-quality audio reproduction. The Flow has three main components to ensure this. There is a high fidelity moving coil unit that enhances the low-frequency dive degree, a high sensitivity dual-balanced mixing unit, and a professional tuning frequency unit.

Meizu has also focused on the design of the Flow making it comfortable to wear. Unlike previously reported, it doesn’t look like the AKG K3003. The earphones also has an in-line microphone and a gold plated 3.5mm connector.

The Meizu Flow Earphones is priced at ¥599 ($89) and is available in Moonlight Silver and Star Black. If you purchase it along with either the Pro 7 or Pro 7 Plus, you pay ¥499 ($74) instead. The earphones comes with 6 pairs of earbuds and a carrying case to keep it safe.

Meizu’s July 26 event in China is for the Pro 7 flagship but alongside its launch, the company is also expected to release its first high-end headphones called the Meizu Flow. The Flow is expected to be the company’s most powerful headphones till date and naturally, with high-end hardware inside, you can expect the price to be quite high as well.

But how costly will be the Meizu Flow?

According to a leaked poster seen in China, the Meizu Pro 7 + Meizu Flow bundle will set you back as much as 6999 Yuan ($1035). If the poster is accurate, this basically means that the Flow headphones will be nearly as costly as the Pro 7 flagship! At such a price, the headphones need to be really, really good to find buyers.

One positive thing going for the Meizu Flow headphones is the recent comment from a senior hardware columnist and headphone enthusiast from China. Lin seems to have got the chance to try out the Flow headphones and he said that the quality is good. He adds that the headphones comes with a custom iron unit and that the price is not going to be cheap.

A recent leak revealed the design of the Meizu Pro 7 and it has a very striking resemblance to the high-end AKG K3003 headphones. Now, note that the K3003 is a premium headset, officially retailing for as much as $1000, although on sites like Amazon you can get it for a lot cheaper. Even if the design of the Flow headphones resembles the K3003, it remains to be seen whether Meizu can come close to its sound quality. If you remember, Meizu started out as an MP3 Play manufacturer, so it has years of experience in the audio field.

So, let’s see how good these headphones are at launch.

Meizu will launch the Pro7 on July 26. Alongside the new flagship, it will also unveil a new pair of headphones called the Meizu Flow.

An image of the Meizu Flow leaked ahead of its launch and for audiophiles who are familiar with earphones, it looks very familiar. A Twitter user @LeaksEva who had previously seen the earphones on a French retail site cdiscount.com for €599.99 tweeted that it looks like the AKG K3003i released back in 2011.

The AKG K3003i is a pair of high-end earphones that sold for over $500. It is even listed for $999.95 on AKG’s own website but goes for $649.99 on Amazon. The AKG K3003i is not only an expensive pair of earphones, it is also one of the best in the market.

It is not unusual to see Chinese manufacturers clone the design of other popular companies. Last year, Xiaomi was in the news for copying the design of the Jawbone Mini Jambox for its Mi Box speaker. We don’t know if Jawbone filed a lawsuit or not. However, we will never know as Jawbone is now dead.

AKG may also not take this up with Meizu. The Flow will most likely not sell for up to half the price of the AKGs and may never sound as good as it is. Meizu does make good earphones though so we expect the Flow to sound good but not as great as the K3003i.

Meizu has already revealed that the much anticipated Pro 7 will be launched on July 26. The tech company has also released another poster revealing that it would be launching another product alongside the Pro 7. The product is named Meizu Flow which is a headset and it is teased with the powerful slogan “Feel nothing Hear everything”.

The details as regards the features of the headset is unknown but as we told you earlier on, the Meizu Flow is expected to be a high-end headphone and the slogan for this teaser suggests that much. The headset may have popped up online in a recent leak, though, and is said to have a design which looks similar to AKG’s high-end product – K3003. The poster also contains the inscription – “Meizu PRO headphones” which could be an indication that it would be releasing more than one headphone.

We can’t say if the headphone will be offered as part of the Pro 7 package at a reduced price but the accessory will be unveiled at the same event with the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus as revealed on the Meizu crowdfunding platform’s Weibo account. Whether it is an in-ear, on the ear or Bluetooth headset, we’ll wait some more to find out about that but Meizu’s business background means it has the ability to manufacture quality headsets capable of giving out a powerful and much more immersive sound. However, don’t expect this one to come with a cheap price tag.
