Nokia Mobile has been propelled by a strong sales trajectory for the Nokia 105 in 2022. The phone, according to the latest IDC report, was the most sold feature phone globally in Q1 2022. It is noted that the IDC report relates to the feature phone segment of the market.

The new report by analyst firm IDC indicates that the top feature phone vendor for Q1 2022 was Itel Mobile. The report indicates that the feature phone market grossed more than $1 billion during the period. There was however a dip in the number of units sold which stood at 58.9 million. The decline from Q1 2021 was 28.5% but feature phones chalked up 16% of the total mobile phone sales in Q1 2022.

While Nokia 105 was the most sought feature phone in Q1 2022, Itel’s top position was driven by strong demand for its products. Three of the phones in the top five were from Itel although the Tecno T402 came second. The IT5260, IT2173, and IT2171 were the Itel phones that made the top five.

The #FeaturePhone market reached $1 billion in Q1 2022. Unit sales declined 28.5% YoY to 58.9m units, but the category still represents 16% of the total worldwide mobile phone sales.

Nokia has continued to have strong gains in several markets as reflected by previous reports. It has seen an 87% surge in revenue in North America while Western Europe recorded a decent 37% growth YoY. The Nokia brand in the United Kingdom has also seen massive growth in its market share. It is currently in the third position in the UK smartphone market.

Nokia is expected to continue its strong showing in the feature phones market in the second quarter of this year. The spread of its growth could also span up to five regions from its 2021 performance.

The Nokia 150 arrives with a 2.4 inch display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. For photography, it is equipped with a VGA camera that also supports LED flash. The handset also features multiple useful functions like FM Radio via the 3.5mm headphone jack, MP3 music support for music, and inclusion of a microSD card slot for expandable storage. Notably, the mobile is powered by a 1020mAh battery which is claimed to be capable of running the Nokia 150 for up to 31 days in a single full charge.

Design

On the front, users will not find a selfie camera or a QWERTY keypad; rather the old fashioned number dials with alphabets assigned to them and a Nokia branding on the top. Below the keyboard a mic can also be found for voice input. The rear of the device features a lone camera with an LED flash beside it and a speaker grill just below it. Nokia 150’s body is made from polycarbonate which is a clear indication of its extreme budget segment.

Price & Availability

Nokia 150 is currently available for pre sales on JD and carries a price tag of 199 Yuan or roughly 28 US Dollars. For color options, it is available in two variants either white or black.

Talking to DNA India, HMD Global vice president, and country head India, Ajey Mehta has said that they are building another 4G enabled feature phone at affordable price. HMD is a crucial player in the feature phone market and sells more feature phones than the smartphones every year.

Except for HMD Global’s Nokia, Jio feature phone is another top contender in the market which offers 4G enabled smartphones. Nokia has already plenty of feature phones in the market and is catering to the growth of the company. To boost up the feature phone segment and get some more sales, company plans to expand its feature phone portfolio.

Nokia is rumoured to release at least two new smartphones next month, the Nokia 6 2018 edition and the Nokia 3310 4G variant. A new Nokia model, likely the Nokia 6 2018 version already passed through the Chinese certification website TENAA a few weeks back and now, the rumored Nokia 3310 4G variant has also been through the certification website. It’s worth noting that a Nokia 4G phone had passed through Bluetooth SIG website last week and it could have been this model.

TENAA revealed only the pictures of the new model and it’s identical to the Nokia 3310 3G version that was announced back in September. If you remember, the 3G version was around 13% larger than the 2G model, featuring better spacing between buttons for an improved typing experience. So it remains to be seen whether the 4G version gets another increase in size. TENAA confirms 4G LTE network support and also reveals that the phone will be powered by Alibaba’s YunOS platform.

With carriers decommissioning 2G networks, the Nokia 3310 3G version made sense. The phone came with a slightly different Series 30+ Feature OS, supporting apps like Facebook, Skype, and Twitter. However, the upgrade in the cellular radio department did cost the battery life of the device. The Nokia 3310 3G version gave only around 6.5 hours of talktime instead of the monstrous 22.1 hours on the 2G version. With an upgrade to 4G, the battery life could further go down.

Also, if the Nokia 3310 4G version does make it to the market, it’s likely to be sold at a higher price. The 3G variant costs €69 vs €49 for the 2G variant.

The legendary Nokia 3310 is back, and for most readers out here, it would have been one of the first phones that you every played with. The twists and turns around the expected smartphone from Nokia under the new Nokia/HMD Global Oy partnership has continued to get more confusing by the day. Just last month, we were fed with rumors that two Android-based Nokia smartphones with 2K display, Android 7.0 Nougat, Snapdragon 820 Chipset and more, are in the pipeline. While we were still waiting for the device to pop, what appeared to be Nokia smartphones with a somewhat confusing and outdated specs line-up were spotted on GeekBench.

Just today, a Nokia feature phone code-named RM-1187  was listed on China’s telecommunications equipment certification center TENAA’s website as certified by the regulatory agency. According to the listing data, the certification application was from Microsoft (China) Co Ltd., but since Microsoft sold off Nokia’s feature phone business to HMD Global Oy, this may very well be the first HMD Nokia to hit the market.

According to the TENAA listing, the Nokia Feature phone RM-1187 will feature a 2.4-inch display with 240 x 320 resolution. The entire device has a dimension of 118 x 50 x 13.5 mm, weighing just 82.6 g. Also listed is a 16MB RAM, a battery capacity of 1025mAh, 16MB of internal storage, expandable with a microSD  card up to 64GB.

In addition, there is a rear main camera on the device with CMOS sensor and LED flash as well as a front facing camera but the pixel size of the sensors were not disclosed. The Nokia RM 1187 feature phone is a dual-SIM enabled device, features 2.5G network connectivity and comes in three color variants, Black, White, and Cyan.
