The race is on for Xiaomi’s next big automotive reveal. Xiaomi YU9, the company’s third car, has broken cover in Xinjiang, China, sparking a wave of buzz across the industry. What makes this test stand out is not just the extreme mountain terrain, but the fact that CEO Lei Jun himself is on site, fueling speculation that the YU9 could be nearing a major milestone on its road to a 2026 launch.

Spy photos of a camouflaged SUV believed to be the YU9 surfaced online during testing in Xinjiang. The site, located at the foot of the Kunlun Mountains, is known for its high elevation and extreme weather conditions. These factors make it an ideal location for endurance testing of powertrain systems and overall vehicle performance.

The focus of the current test phase is on battery life, charging performance, and sun protection, key elements for electric and hybrid vehicles operating in harsh environments. This kind of high-altitude testing mirrors the process Xiaomi followed for its earlier models, the Xiaomi SU7 and Xiaomi YU7, shortly before their official launches.

Top Executives on Site

Lei Jun confirmed his arrival in Xinjiang through social media posts, sharing photos taken near the Kunlun Mountains. Other top executives also participated in the testing process. This level of executive involvement highlights the strategic importance of the YU9 project for Xiaomi’s growing automotive business.

Hybrid Powertrain and Long EV Range

Although official specifications have not been released, leaked and rumored details suggest that the YU9 will use an extended-range hybrid powertrain. It is expected to feature an 80 kWh battery, offering more than 400 km of pure electric range. The SUV’s expected length is over 5.2 meters with a height of around 1.8 meters, placing it in the large D-segment category.

Spy photos also suggest that the YU9 may not use a dual-screen layout in its central control area but is likely to feature lidar sensors for advanced driver assistance functions.

Market Launch Expected in 2026

The first spy photos of the YU9 appeared in late 2024, and according to a report from Deutsche Bank, Xiaomi plans to launch a large hybrid SUV in 2026. Given its size, powertrain, and testing timeline, the YU9 fits this description closely. This suggests that the vehicle is moving toward pre-production testing, with a formal debut likely in the near future.

Xiaomi Auto’s Rapid Growth

Xiaomi’s entry into the automotive sector began in March 2021, and progress has been rapid. The company completed its first trial production car in August 2023 and launched the SU7 in March 2024. The YU7 followed in May 2025, marking Xiaomi’s second major EV release. The company also secured its own manufacturing qualification in July 2024 and expanded its retail and service network across China.

By July 2025, cumulative deliveries of Xiaomi vehicles exceeded 300,000 units. Alongside new model development, Xiaomi is also investing in advanced autonomous driving technology through its Xiaomi HAD system, set to launch by the end of 2024.

A Strategic SUV Launch Ahead

With high-altitude testing underway, executive presence on site, and a clear product roadmap, the YU9 is shaping up to be a major addition to Xiaomi’s automotive lineup. Its extended-range hybrid powertrain and large SUV profile suggest the company is aiming to compete strongly in China’s high-end SUV market segment starting in 2026.

Xiaomi continues to expand its product lineup, and the latest addition is the SU7 series electric vehicle models. Recently, these vehicles has been spotted on roads without camouflage during tests. This shows us that the vehicle is almost ready. Although the Chinese manufacturer hasn’t shared details about the selling price and release date yet, there’s a promising sign that we’ll soon have answers to these questions. The advertising campaign for the Xiaomi SU7 has officially started. Here are the details…

Xiaomi SU7 Electric Vehicles On the Horizon with Exciting Details Unveiled

For example a well executed advertising campaign can boost sales even for a mediocre product, while a good product can bring wealth to its manufacturer. In light of this information, Xiaomi has started advertising shoots SU7 series electric vehicle series. Although the images shared from the advertising shoot do not provide us with any new information, they have hinted that the release date of the vehicle is approaching.

As you may already be aware, Xiaomi’s initial lineup of electric vehicles will include three models: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max. The anticipated timeframe for mass production and release is the first half of 2024. The company aims to make these vehicles accessible to a wide audience by offering both single and dual motor options, with an expected price target of approximately $20,000. It’s important to note that the final pricing details are still being determined.

Xiaomi continues to expand its product line. For example, the company, which is known to many of us for its smartphone models, is preparing to introduce its own electric vehicle in the near future. This EV, which is expected to be called MS11, was recently spotted on Bluetooth SIG certification. However, this is not the only leak about the eagerly awaited vehicle. A recent leak of spy photos has given potential consumers a glimpse into what Xiaomi is planning with its electric car model. What caught everyone’s attention is the vehicle’s trunk design, which resembles a Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro earphone case.

Spy Photos Reveal Xiaomi Car Trunk Design, Progressing Towards 2024 Mass Production

A leaked spy photo has been making rounds on the internet, revealing the distinctive trunk design of Xiaomi’s upcoming electric vehicle. Remarkably, the opened trunk bears a striking resemblance to the case of Xiaomi’s Buds 4 Pro earphones, or even an enlarged USB-C charging port.

The photos show that the trunk has a large opening and a flat floor. There are also several tie-down points for securing cargo. The trunk lid appears to be made of glass, which would give the vehicle a more premium look. In addition to the trunk, the spy photos also reveal some other details about the vehicle’s design. The front end has a sleek, aerodynamic look, with a large grille and swept-back headlights. The rear end is also stylish, with a sloping roofline and a full-width taillight.

Xiaomi has not yet released any official information about its electric vehicle. However, the spy photos and other reports suggest that it will be a high-end vehicle that competes with models from Tesla and other major automakers. For example the vehicle is expected to be powered by a 101kWh battery pack that provides a range of over 800 km.

It is also likely to be equipped with advanced driver-assistance features. Lu Weibing, the President of Xiaomi Group, has reported that the automotive project’s progress has surpassed initial projections. The aim is for mass production to kick off in the first half of 2024, and it seems that the plan is on track.

Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. As this trend continues, competition is also rising at a similar rate. For now, Tesla and BYD are leading the market, but the number of brands in the sector is quickly increasing. Although most newcomers don’t make a significant impact and only capture a small market share, Xiaomi could be the brand that changes all. Recently, new informations has emerged about the long-anticipated vehicle. Here are the details…

Xiaomi Electric Vehicle to Be Priced Competitively, Thanks to Software-Driven Approach

It’s been known for some time that Xiaomi plans to enter the electric vehicle market. In addition to the company’s announcements, a lot of information has already been revealed about this. For example, we know that the upcoming vehicle will support 800V fast charging, and thanks to spy photos, we also have some idea about its design. New information has now emerged, suggesting that Xiaomi plans to make money through software, rather than from vehicle sales.

As you may know, the automobile industry is not very open to new players. If you want to enter the market, you need to make a substantial investment. For this reason, especially small and new manufacturers struggle to outperform their competitors with competitive pricing. To avoid similar challenges, Xiaomi wants to take a different approach for their electric vehicle. According to the latest reports, they won’t make much money from the hardware, or the physical parts of the vehicle.

They plan to make about 1% profit from that. But they will try to make more money from the software, or the programs that run the vehicle. Actually, this isn’t a new strategy for the company. When Xiaomi was a new player in the global smartphone market, they kept their profit margins low. Thanks to the price-to-performance ratio of their products, they won the hearts of millions of tech enthusiasts worldwide. This is also how companies like Tesla make money.

Xiaomi’s Battery Suppliers Revealed

Another key revelation is Xiaomi has chosen Zhongchuang Xinhang and CATL to be their main battery suppliers for RV’s. At first, Xiaomi was thinking about using both CATL and BYD. But now, various sources say that BYD is not part of the plan. Before, there were rumors that Xiaomi wanted two kinds of batteries, one from CATL and another from BYD. But new information says they’ve decided to go with Zhongchuang Xinhang and CATL, especially after some legal problems happened between them.

Battery costs are a significant aspect of electric vehicle manufacturing. As Xiaomi is still in the initial stages, its bargaining power is not strong. According to insiders, the cost of a single battery pack starts at around $10.000, making it nearly 50% of the total car cost. With such high upfront costs, Xiaomi has begun readjusting its supply chain to mitigate the expense.

When all these factors are considered, we get the impression that even a 1% profit margin for the company may not be enough to keep the car’s price low. However, it is certain that it will not be more expensive than its competitors in the same market segment. Xiaomi’s entry into the automotive industry is still in its early stages, but the company has made significant progress in a short period of time. How successful the car, expected to be released in 2024, will be remains a topic of speculation for now.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone giant, is getting closer to its goal of conquering the automotive industry. As you know, the company is expected to launch its first electric vehicle very soon. In fact, the release date is so close that recent reports have revealed the final pricing and release date of the vehicle. Now, some specifications of Xiaomi’s EV battery have also been revealed. Here are the details…

Xiaomi’s EV to Support 800V Fast Charging: Battery Specs Revealed

Leaks are an inevitable part of the tech world. We often bring you the latest news on leaks in the tech world, and we try our best to keep you informed. The latest one comes from automotive blogger @MetaAuto. The leakster recently revealed specifications of Xiaomi’s upcoming electric vehicle battery in a blog post.

According to the leaks, the battery, bearing the model number A1310C and a manufacturer code of f47832, is a lithium-ion battery with an impressive 726.7V voltage. The battery boasts a capacity of 139.0Ah and 101.0kWh, and it weighs in at 642.0kg. Given these parameters, it is expected that the power battery in Xiaomi’s electric vehicle will support high-voltage fast charging of up to 800V. Other automotive bloggers have pointed out in the comment section that this battery is likely a ternary lithium version.

This news represents a significant milestone for Xiaomi as it ventures into the competitive electric vehicle market. It also signifies an exciting development for consumers awaiting the debut of Xiaomi’s first vehicle, as high battery capacity and fast charging capabilities are key factors in the appeal of electric vehicles. If these specs hold true, Xiaomi could be preparing to make a significant impact in the market.

In addition to the battery specifications, there have been other bits of information about Xiaomi’s electric vehicle that have surfaced in recent months. For example, previous reports indicate that the vehicle will come equipped with an in-house developed chip and vehicle system architecture. Additionally, Xiaomi has already begun the process of selecting delivery centers, and the first model’s pricing has been finalized.

With all of this information coming together, it is clear that Xiaomi is making significant progress in its preparations to launch its first electric vehicle. The company has ambitious plans for the EV market, and these battery specifications suggest that Xiaomi is serious about competing with the established players in the industry.

A recent blog post revealed a series of renderings, offering enthusiasts a glimpse into the potential design of future Xiaomi electric Vehicles.

The Future of Xiaomi Cars Unveiled

In 2022, the Xiaomi announced that it had spent 3.1 billion yuan on innovative businesses, including smart electric vehicles. Lei Jun, the company’s founder, has been optimistic about the progress of Xiaomi’s car manufacturing, with mass production expected to begin in the first half of 2024. Recently, a blogger uploaded a set of self-designed renderings of Xiaomi cars, providing a sneak peek into the future of the company’s electric vehicle lineup.

The published renderings are similar to those previously released by the same blogger. This time, however, the images feature three different angles, showcasing the front face, side, and rear of the vehicle. The blogger states that the renderings are inspired by previously leaked images of Xiaomi cars.

The front face of the vehicle features a closed grille, with the headlight module incorporating a “rice”-shaped arrangement of lamp beads. Underneath the headlights, ventilation slots have been added, and the lower grille style is sporty. From the side, the vehicle boasts a seamless line design, with a gently sloping front windshield that should provide an excellent drag coefficient. The design is reminiscent of future ET series models and even includes a lidar “horn” on the roof.

The rear of the vehicle showcases C-shaped brake lights on both sides, connected by light strips to create a distinctive, eye-catching style. This design should ensure excellent visibility at night.

In a post on Weibo, the blogger expressed confidence in Lei Jun’s ability to deliver a car that reflects the company’s values and dedication to innovation. Accompanying the new car renderings, the blogger wrote, “Born for fever, fighting for cars” and “The realization of all cute loves begins with a great dream.” These renderings demonstrate the excitement and anticipation surrounding Xiaomi’s entry into the electric vehicle market, with many eager to see what the future holds for the brand.

Xiaomi continues to expand its product line. The Chinese tech giant, which is most well-known for its smartphones, produces many different products ranging from toothbrushes to smart home devices. The company’s latest venture is to enter the electric vehicle market. Xiaomi has been collaborating with various manufacturers to produce its own vehicle for some time now, and its upcoming sedan was recently captured by a spy camera. Here are the details…

Upcoming Xiaomi Sedan to Feature Pure Electric or Plug-in Hybrid Power

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is making headlines once again, this time with the recent exposure of spy photos of what appears to be their upcoming positioning sedan. The photos, which were leaked by well known car blogger. Images show us a heavily camouflaged engineering test vehicle that is equipped with a laser radar and has a sedan shape. The vehicle’s layout is similar to that of the Ideal L9, which belongs to the watchtower mode.

One of the most notable features of the vehicle is its extremely long front, which is longer than that of most ordinary pure electric vehicles. Bloggers speculate that Xiaomi may opt for a pure electric power and “plug-in hybrid (including extended range)” power version. However, this has not been confirmed yet. The interior of the vehicle has also been exposed, but since it is an engineering sample, it is of little reference value. However, it can be speculated that the vehicle will be equipped with a large-size screen to create a technological atmosphere.

Last month, the design renderings of Xiaomi MS11 were leaked on the internet. From the renderings, it can be seen that the Xiaomi sedan is a coupe with a closed front face, a lidar on the roof, and headlights with brake vents below, indicating that the vehicle’s sporty performance may not be weak. The vehicle uses hidden door handles, does not use the latest electronic rearview mirror, and the roof is integrated with a canopy, which may be equipped with frameless doors.

The wheels are petal-shaped, and the middle of the wheels is clearly displayed. Xiaomi vehicle’s will use the updated “MI” logo, which was introduced in March 2021. However, Wang Hua, the general manager of the public relations department of Xiaomi Group, responded to the leak of the design renderings by stating that the confidential design documents of the second-tier supplier were leaked. The supplier was only a supplier for mold proofing, and the leaked documents were very early in the bidding process. The design draft is not the final stage, and the supplier who caused the leak was fined 1 million yuan.

It remains to be seen what features Xiaomi‘s upcoming positioning sedan will ultimately have, as the vehicle is still in its early testing phase. However, based on the spy photos that have been leaked, it seems that the car will have some exciting features that will set it apart from other sedans on the market. Xiaomi has been making big moves in recent years, expanding its offerings to include everything from smartphones and laptops to smart home products and wearables. The addition of a positioning sedan to its lineup could be the next big step for the company as it continues to grow and expand its reach.

The first Xiaomi electric vehicle is codenamed Modena and the EV details were leaked by a Chinese platform, Jiemian.com. The Chinese media outlet said its sources were people close to Xiaomi. The Xiaomi EVs are rumored to use the Qualcomm and Nvidia Orin X next-generation smart chips. The base model will be run on the 400 V platform while the higher model uses the 800 V platform. The 400V model uses a BYD LiFePO4 battery while the 800 V model uses a CATL Kirin battery.

The current rumor is silent on the Xiaomi EV’s electric motor. However, it has been previously rumored to have a 260kW motor. As per the rumors, it is also speculated that the EV will be unveiled this year and go into commercial production in 2024. Xiaomi has not made any official statement yet on the issue. Jiemian.com also speculated that Xiaomi is also developing a second EV. The EV is codenamed Le Mans and could be unveiled in 2025. The Le Mans is rumored to come with three electric motors and a similar architecture to the Modena.

Speculations have gone on overdrive after a camouflaged vehicle was spotted by several persons near a Xiaomi facility in China. The vehicle was seen parked near Xiaomi Science and Technology Park. It has been speculated that the car could be a prototype of the rumored Xiaomi EV. It is even reported that the prototypes were assembled in September last year. The price of the two Xiaomi debut EVs is allegedly between 260,000 yuan ($38,383) and 350,000 yuan ($51,670).

Now, according to a report by Sina Tech (via), Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun will unveil the company the prototype of its first car in the next month (August).

The report claims that Jun spends almost two-thirds of his time at Xiaomi Auto headquarters monitoring the progress of the company’s first car. After its launch in August, the company will conduct a series of tests, including its first winter test. The company reportedly plans to mass produce the first Xiaomi car in 2024.

Xiaomi’s first electric car prototype will be designed by HVST Automobile Design. To those who are unaware, it is the same company that designed WM Motor’s Maven concept car. The report also states that the company is planning to hire a PR director, which indicates that it may launch a promotional campaign soon in the coming months.

In March 2021, the company officially confirmed that it would enter the electric vehicle business. It said it would initially invest $1.5 billion and then invest $10 billion over the next 10 years in its car business. In September 2021, it registered Xiaomi Auto Co., Ltd.

In November 2021, it signed an agreement, to build Xiaomi Auto headquarters and its R&D division in Yizhuang, with the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area Management Committee. The facility, which employs more than 1,000 employees, is reportedly capable of producing 300,00 cars per year.

Xiaomi reportedly aims to launch A+ and B segment cars. The former will come with L2 autonomous driving support and will likely be priced between 150,000 and 200,000 Yuan (~$22,230 and ~$29,640). On the other hand, the latter will support L3 autonomous driving and could be priced between 200,000 Yuan and 300,000 Yuan (~$29,640 and 44,460).

A spokesperson of the Chinese tech giant shared the news (Via Reuters) that was based on a comment made by the senior official during an investor event. Zang Ziyuan, a director in Xiaomi’s international marketing department also shared the news on his official Weibo account (a Chinese microblogging website). Notably, this marks the first official goal for the company in its upcoming electric vehicle division, which was first announced earlier this year.

Furthermore, the brand’s shares also rose by 5.4 percent, which also makes it the biggest daily percentage rise since 12th May 2021. Back in March, the company also stated that it would be investing a sizeable 10 billion US Dollars for its electric car project over the course of the next ten years. In August, Xiaomi had also completed the business registration for its electric vehicle unit as well.

As of right now, the company is on a hiring spree for its car project, although, it had yet to reveal if it will partner up with an established car brand for its vehicle or if it will produce this car on its own. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

But if you think that is a project for the future, you may want to have a rethink. The Chinese tech giant has officially announced the birth of the Xiaomi EV Company Limited, the vehicle through which it hopes to achieve the dream of manufacturing electric vehicles.

The announcement follows the completion of the registration of the new company with Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi, as the legal representative. The new company has a registered capital of RMB 10 billion (around $1.5 billion).

Towards the end of March 2021, Xioami’s founder Lei Jun first announced during a speech the company’s EV business initiative, hinting that the Chinese brand was planning to invest an estimated $10 billion in total in EV business over the course of the next 10 years, with an initial investment of RMB 10 billion (~$1.5 billion. Lei Jun will lead the team himself and the company has already recruited over 300 new employees who are experts in the sector.

The news comes not too long after the company announced the acquisition of an autonomous driving technology company Deepmotion Tech. However, a clear roadmap of how the new EV business will run is not yet gotten. We can’t say if the company is going to manufacture complete electric vehicles or would focus on manufacturing components (hardware and software) for EVs. One thing is for sure though, the company will develop self-driving technology. There is no doubt that Xiaomi is bringing some vigor to the market.

At the live broadcast, Lei Jun disclosed that Xiaomi’s first car will either be a sedan or an SUV. He also disclosed that the car which is expected to be an electric vehicle will retail within the price range of 100,000 yuan (around $15,000) to 300,000 yuan (around $45,000). This means the car won’t be a budget product but will be positioned in the mid-to-high-end range.

Further discussions were made about the use of the new Mi logo on the car and Lei Jun thinks the new design is more suitable for the car than the previous square logo. It is uncertain if the logo won’t be modified on the car considering that it was designed before Xiaomi kickstarted plans for an EV.

Earlier on, Lei Jun conducted a survey poll on Weibo before the live broadcast where he sought the opinions of fans on some key aspects of the EV. Some of the questions include whether fans will prefer a Xiaomi-branded car or if it should be launched in partnership with an established car maker.

The type of cars was also asked with options including cars like SUVs, sedans, sports cars, and RVs. The question on the price range had an option of “Less than 100,000 yuan”. As would be expected, the majority of the brand’s fans prefer a car priced at less than 100,000 yuan (~$15K).
