Huawei FreeLace Pro 2 neckband-style earphones launch tipped for February 22

Earlier today, Huawei announced that it will launch Pocket 2 on February 22. For the unaware, Pocket is Huawei’s clamshell foldable smartphone lineup.

So far, the company has released two vertical foldable phones, namely Pocket and Pocket S. The Pocket 2 will succeed the latter.

According to a reliable tipster, this handset will be accompanied by a pair of neckband-style earphones whose predecessor was launched way back in 2020.

Huawei FreeLace Pro

A Chinese leaker who goes by ‘Uncle looking at the mountains’ on Weibo claims that Huawei Freelace Pro 2 will be launched alongside the Huawei Pocket 2.

For the unaware, the original Huawei Freelace Pro was released in August 2020. It is a pair of neckband-style wireless earphones.

The audio accessory arrives in three colors. The product is priced premium comparatively. It was released at ¥599 at launch but offers active noise cancellation (ANC).

At present, we don’t have details on its successor. But it should be better than the original.

Thus, we can expect Huawei Freelace Pro 2 to offer better audio quality, longer battery life, and superior active noise cancellation. It is worth noting that these are merely assumptions from our end and we don’t know how the actual product will turn out.

We are looking forward to learning more about these earphones in the coming days. Its features could leak before the official announcement later this week.

Honor to Unveil AI PC to Challenge Apple’s Dominance

Honor is preparing to expand its product family. The company will soon unveil its latest offerings at MWC 2024. Of course, upcoming products are still a mystery. However, they sometimes release hints in their announcements. For example, we recently learned that the company will launch another Porsche Design flagship smartphone at the event. Now, according to the latest announcement, Honor is preparing to launch a PC with artificial intelligence features that will compete with the MacBook. Here are the details…

Honor hints at AI PC to rival MacBook at MWC 2024

Artificial intelligence continues its rapid integration into various technologies, including smartphones and computers. Honor seeks to keep pace with competitors by developing an AI-powered PC to rival Apple’s MacBooks. Right now, the details we have about this topic are limited except it will be Honor MagicBook 16. However, that doesn’t prevent us from making educated predictions.

Since artificial intelligence relies on powerful hardware, we can expect an exceptionally high performance hardware package to be involved. Additionally, the presence of functions not found in regular PCs, along with the improved performance of existing ones, is also a consideration. However, all of these come at a cost.

As is typical with any advanced technology, the price is a factor in the case of Honor AI PC. It will likely compete with MacBook in terms of pricing, aligning with current standards. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that all of this is still speculative. We’ll have to wait until the event at MWC on February 25, 2024, to see what surprise Honor has in store for us.

Google may block the development of Google Camera Ports

Google had introduced the first developer preview version of Android 15, and despite being the initial release of Android 15, it brought along some intriguing features. However, the Pixel 5 series devices did not receive the Android 15 update. Since Pixel 5 devices won’t get official software support anymore, it might be impossible to port GCam app on non-Pixel Android devices. The oldest Pixel devices to receive the Android 15 update belong to the Pixel 6 series, and these devices come with the Tensor chipset, Google’s own custom chipset.

Google currently doesn’t support any Snapdragon powered Pixel

Google introduced the Pixel 5 in 2020, and software update support officially just ended in 2024. Pixel 5 is a unique phone as it features the last Snapdragon chipset offered by Google. Google’s modern devices, Pixel 6 and newer ones come with the custom Tensor CPU.

After introducing their own chipset, Google now has full control over the processor, something that was not possible with Snapdragon chipsets before. Google may require exclusive Pixel features to work only with a Tensor processor, making it potentially more challenging to use/port Pixel features on non-Pixel devices.

Additionally, Qualcomm DSP support might be removed from Google Camera, which is needed for processing images on Qualcomm chipsets. This means that even if the GCam application is ported to different devices, the image processing time may significantly increase making the GCam ports obsolete.

We are not claiming that all of these will happen, but it is now possible considering Google no longer officially supports any Snapdragon device. However, there is a bigger issue, and that is the poor performance of Tensor chipsets.

Despite Google making their own custom chipset since 2021, the Tensor CPUs still face significant challenges in terms of power and efficiency. Even today’s modern Tensor CPUs provide a performance similar to Qualcomm’s flagship processors introduced about three years ago. Modern smartphones have excellent battery life and beefy processing power; therefore, Google should either use Snapdragon chipsets again or Tensor needs to make substantial progress.

Gurman: Apple Vision Pro 2 is at least 18 months away

Apple‘s first foray into the mixed-reality realm with the Vision Pro headset has been generally successful, garnering praise for its various mixed-reality features.

However, the headset’s steep price and initial drawbacks have led to some buyers feeling regretful about their purchase. Now, analyst Mark Gurman, speculates that a refined version, the Vision Pro 2, may not hit the market for at least another 18 months.

Gurman in his recent “Power On” newsletter said Apple is at least 18 months away from launching a second-generation Vision Pro. That means Vision Pro 2 might launch sometime in 2026.

There have been reports of customers returning their Vision Pro headsets, sparking concerns about the product’s early performance. Gurman notes that while returns are common, and happen for all sorts of reasons.

Gurman says, “The Vision Pro is unique. If you’ve already bought one, chances are you’re a diehard Apple fan or an early adopter of new technology. That group, one would assume, is far less likely than the normal iPhone or iPad buyer to send something back.”

Complaints about the Vision Pro headset mainly revolve around the device’s weight, app selection, and the hefty $3,500 price tag, which doesn’t seem justified by the current user experience.

Apple-Vision-Pro

Despite positioning itself as a luxury item with its premium price, the Vision Pro seems to be facing challenges typical of first-generation technology.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, criticized its performance, especially when compared to Meta’s own Quest 3, highlighting the hurdles Apple will face in a rapidly evolving market.

Apple is known for its careful approach to new product categories, prioritizing quality over speed. However, the current iteration of the Vision Pro appears to fall short of expectations for some users, so there’s certainly room for improvement.

What are you expectations for the Vision Pro 2, let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Older CPUs or PCs may lose out on future Windows 11 updates

Microsoft may soon prevent the next major Windows 11 update (known as 24H2) from running on very old computers. This change is due to a newly discovered requirement for the POPCNT instruction, which many older CPUs do not support.

POPCNT is a CPU instruction used to count the number of set bits in a value. It has applications in cryptography and has been present in CPUs for decades.

windows 11 old cpu
Microsoft releases Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.2915 with 6 exciting features to the Beta Channel

Intel introduced POPCNT with its Nehalem architecture in 2008 and AMD with its Barcelona architecture in 2007. If your computer uses a CPU manufactured before those dates, there’s a possibility that it may no longer be compatible with future Windows 11 updates.

Since Microsoft already restricts Windows 11 installation to relatively modern processors (8th generation Intel chips or newer), this potential change won’t impact most users.

However, those who have bypassed Windows 11 hardware restrictions on older systems could run into problems during the next major update.

It’s unclear if this change is intentional or an accidental result of including newer CPU instructions during the development process.

A similar incident occurred recently in Windows 10, leading to compatibility problems for some older processors.

Microsoft has not yet officially commented on this situation. This development underscores Microsoft’s increasing focus on stricter hardware requirements for its operating systems.

Users with significantly older computers may want to consider the upcoming limitations if they plan to continue using Windows 11 long-term.

However, as mentioned earlier, Microsoft has restricted Windows 11 installation to compatible devices since its launch. So, if you’ve checked the compatibility list, there’s no need to worry; your device will continue to work normally.

Currently, Microsoft is finalizing the 24H2 version, slated for release to manufacturers (RTM) by April. If you’re eager to try out the 2024 update ahead of time, you can install the Insider Preview build of Windows 11 version 24H2 (Build 26052) through the Dev or Canary channel.

OnePlus has just announced that it will be officially slashing the price tag of one of its popular Nord smartphone models. The device in question is the Nord CE 3 Lite, so here is everything you need to know.

OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite Price Cut in India

As per official notes, the Chinese smartphone maker is lowering the Nord CE 3 Lite’s pricing in the region by 2,000 INR. In other words, the device now starts from just 17,999 INR for its base variant that offers 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. To recall, the Nord CE 3 Lite was first announced back in April 2023 as a mid range handset with a starting price tag of 19,999 INR.

It is worth noting that this is a permanent price cut and not a limited time deal. So, the higher end 8GB + 256GB variant is also available for a new 19,999 INR price tag, down from the original 21,999 INR pricing. The smartphone with the updated cost is currently listed on Amazon India as well as the brand’s official Indian website.

The Nord CE 3 Lite is sold in a Pastel Lime and Chromatic Gray color option. It sports a tall 6.73-inch IPS LCD panel that offers a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 695 SoC and runs on the Android 13 OS out of the box. A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers this model, which also supports 67W wired fast charging. The rear packs a 108-megapixel triple camera setup, while the front offers a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.
