Smartphone manufacturers are creating their own imaging companies for mobile photography

Smartphone manufacturers pay a lot of attention to mobile photography. Especially some brands are making efforts to improve the camera in mobile devices and are partnering with different companies. For example, Xiaomi is partnering with Leica.

As an effort of this partnership, smartphones are specially tested by both companies and not only that, they also add advanced effects for photos. Of course, you may ask whether every brand needs to partner with another company. Well, some companies may feel that they no longer need to partner and may soon decide to start their own image development company.

Device manufacturers create their own imaging companies

With advanced hardware, smartphones can deliver good photos, although not as good as photographic cameras. Many device manufacturers work on mobile photography and cameras are developing more and more every day.

Now the latest report from Digital Chat Station surprises everyone. Some smartphone manufacturers are reportedly preparing to stop making exclusive partnerships for imaging systems and will set up their own private companies. First of all, it is not known which brand will establish its own imaging company.

But we don’t think Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica will end immediately, so this could happen in the future for Xiaomi. It’s thought that Vivo or Oppo will set up their own special imaging company. Formerly, Huawei ended its partnership with Leica and created its own company called XMAGE. This company works to improve the photo and video quality of Huawei devices.

Amazon Prime Video sheds Dolby Vision and Atmos Support from Basic Plan

Amazon Prime Video Subscription is widely used across the US and the countries where it is available. The pricing and content are different in each country, but it seems now features will also differ if we conclude from the recent changes the company made to the Amazon Prime Video subscription in the US. Amazon introduced ads to the Prime Video subscriptions, and it seems the support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos is also no longer available with the plan.

Amazon Prime Video Dolby Vision and Atmos Removal from Ad-Tier

A German tech firm, 4K Filme noticed the unavailability of the Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos features while streaming. The ad-tier users are limited to the HDR10+ and Dolby Digital 5.1 features. Later, Forbes and other publishers confined the absence of these features to the Amazon ad tier.

Surprisingly, Amazon did not add information about these features to the new ad-free tier. However, it seems the user has to pay an additional $2.99 per month to get an ad-free experience and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Amazon has not yet responded to the whole scenario and has failed to give any reasoning behind removing the features. Well, there could be a lot of things, at the backend, that led Amazon to take such a drastic step. However, a full explanation was expected, but the company simply confirmed to Forbes the removal of the features from the ad tier. In a response to Forbes, the company said, “Moving Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to the ads-free tier is deliberate, and not the result of a technical issue.

It seems, that Amazon deliberately removed the feature, rather than accidentally. Well, the actual reason remains under wraps.

The changes are part of the Amazon Prime Subscription Pack in the US, while other countries remain unaffected as of now.

Xiaomi Cuktech Multi-port GaN Charger 65W (2C1A) now comes with USB Type-C cable at cheaper price

Just last week, Xiaomi’s Cuktech (formerly ZMIlaunched a charger for iPhones. A few days after that, the brand has released yet another product.

The new offering from the company is a charger bundle. It is an updated version of an existing product at a cheaper price.

Cuktech Multi-port GaN Charger 65W (2C1A)

Back in November, Cuktech launched a 65W GaN charger with multiple ports. This power adapter officially goes by Cuktech Multi-port GaN Charger 65W (2C1A).

As the name suggests, the charger maxes at 65W output and features two USB Type-C ports and a USB Type-A port. Also, it uses gallium nitride instead of silicon.

At launch, this power adapter was priced at ¥99 (~$15) in China. It is also available in select global markets for around $30.

Now, three months later, the brand has released a new bundle in China that includes a 100W-compatible USB Type-C cable. More importantly, this version of the product is slightly cheaper at ¥94.

This GaN charger is comparatively smaller than regular 65W adapters on the market that use silicon. Even the pin can be folded to carry it without hassle.

Out of the two USB Type-C ports, only one of them support 65W maximum output, while the second one is limited to 33W. Further, the USB Type-A port maxes at 22.5W.

However, on the global variant of this charger, both USB Type-C ports support 65W.

For some reason, Cuktech doesn’t specify the charging protocols supported by the adapter. However, it advertises fast charging on products from various brands, including Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Lenovo, and Xiaomi.

As mentioned earlier, this power accessory is sold in a few international markets. In some regions, it seems to arrive with a cable like the new bundle in China.

Redmi Note 13 5G series revenue exceeds 2000 crores in India within a month

The Redmi Note 13 5G series made its debut in India in early January.  The lineup consists of three models ranging across different price segments.

Within a few days from its release, the series generated ₹1,000 crores in revenue. A month later, the company now announces that the revenue from the said smartphones has doubled.

Redmi Note 13 Pro and Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus
Redmi Note 13 Pro and Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus

Earlier today, Xiaomi revealed that the Redmi Note 13 5G series crossed ₹2,000 crores in revenue in a month. This is quite an achievement for a brand that has been losing market share in the country.

However, unlike previous years, the company does not mention the number of units sold. The numbers should be comparatively low given the current smartphone market scenario.

So how come the revenue is high? The answer to this is the pricing of the newer Redmi Notes.

Xiaomi bumped the price of the Redimi Note phones by incorporating a select few premium features.

The base Redmi Note 13 5G starts at ₹17,999 instead of ₹9,999 as it used to a few years back. On the other end of the spectrum, the top-end Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus retails as high as ₹35,999.

Due to increased pricing and à la carte features from mid-range as well as premium categories, the Redmi Note series is no longer a default recommendation. The devices are still good but they have lost their uniqueness and charm.

Despite all these, Xiaomi managed to clock in crores of revenue in a month. This sort of proves that Indian consumers still trust the ‘Redmi Note’ brand due to its legacy.

Nothing Phone (2a) case leak adds credibility to the initial design rumor

The upcoming Nothing Phone (2a) has been subject to both misleading leaks and potentially revealing ones. Recently, a series of seemingly fake renders added confusion to the speculation surrounding the device.

However, a new leak – this time in the form of an alleged phone case – suggests that initial design leaks might have been accurate after all. These case images were shared on SlashLeaks

Nothing Phone 2a case

We can see the Phone (2a) case featuring a camera setup positioned horizontally. This lines up with previous design speculations, leading us to think they could be on the mark. If accurate, this would be a notable departure from the vertical camera modules seen on previous Nothing Phones.

However, there’s one inconsistency with the case design — it lacks any cutouts for the Nothing Phone’s iconic Glyph LED interface. So we are still not sure if this indeed is a Phone (2a) case.

We may find more concrete answers soon, as Nothing will officially reveal Phone (2a)’s details today at 3:30 PM IST. While it’s unclear exactly what will be revealed, it could shed light on the phone’s design and potentially confirm some features.

The Nothing Phone (2a) is speculated to feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It may be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor, offering up to 12GB of RAM, and a storage capacity of 256GB. All eyes are now on Nothing to see if today’s announcement brings these rumors closer to reality.
