GasGas’ Rolls out New Lineup of e-MTBs with 630-watt-hour Batteries

As Electric Bike manufacturers are pushing out new models every single week, a new player has emerged with a lineup that’s turning heads. GasGas, traditionally known for its high-performance motocross bikes, has rolled out its MXC range of electric mountain bikes (e-MTBs), blending its motocross heritage with the latest in e-bike technology.

All three bikes in the lineup are designed with carbon fiber

The MXC series, comprising three models, is GasGas’s answer to the growing demand for versatile, high-tech e-MTBs. Each bike in the lineup boasts a carbon fiber frame, known for its lightweight and durable properties. This choice of material signifies a commitment to quality and performance. The MXC models are designed to be agile and capable on various terrains, from challenging mountain trails to relaxing backcountry paths.

GasGas

A standout feature of the MXC range is the innovative Eagle Powertrain system by Sram, marking Sram’s debut in the e-bike market. This system, developed in collaboration with Brose, balances high performance with reduced weight. The powertrain is paired with a 630-watt-hour battery, ensuring riders can enjoy extended adventures without frequent stops to recharge.

The MXC bikes also showcase a unique wheel setup – a larger 29-inch wheel in the front and a smaller 27.5-inch wheel in the rear. This “mullet” configuration offers a harmonious blend of agility and stability, making the bikes adept at handling a variety of terrains. Moreover, the bikes’ slack geometry provides a playful, responsive riding experience, focusing more on agility than long-distance endurance.

By integrating motocross expertise with cutting-edge e-bike technology, GasGas is poised to make a significant impact on the e-MTB market. While pricing details remain under wraps, the MXC range’s promising features suggest these bikes will be a hit among enthusiasts looking for a blend of performance, technology, and versatility on two wheels.

Chinese Startup Moore Threads Defies US Sanctions with New GPU-Based AI Center

Beijing-based Moore Threads Intelligent Technology, a graphics processing unit (GPU) start-up, recently unveiled a cutting-edge GPU-based computing center, despite facing significant challenges due to US sanctions. Moore Threads, which specializes in designing GPUs tailored for AI training, announced its new GPU that will be central to the KUAE Intelligent Computing Centre. This center aims to cater to China’s burgeoning demand for training large language models, a crucial component in the AI sector. This initiative reflects a push towards technological self-reliance, a significant theme in the current era of tech competition.

Moore Threads also went through a round of layoffs to restrategize resources

The US sanctions have indeed impacted Moore Threads, limiting its access to necessary manufacturing and software resources. These restrictions are part of the US’s broader strategy to maintain its technological edge, especially in sensitive areas like AI and chip manufacturing. Despite these hurdles, Moore Threads has shown remarkable agility. After a round of layoffs, the company has refocused its resources on advancing its GPU development, a move that mirrors the challenges and resilience shown by Huawei Technologies under similar pressures.

Moore Threads China

The significance of Moore Threads’ new GPU and computing center extends beyond the company. It’s a part of China’s larger endeavor for chip self-sufficiency, a priority given the current global chip shortage and geopolitical tensions. The company’s successful funding rounds, totaling over US$525 million, underscore investor confidence in this vision.

Moreover, the KUAE computing facility’s compatibility with Nvidia’s CUDA platform suggests a strategic approach to ensure interoperability with existing technologies. This compatibility is crucial, considering Nvidia’s dominance in the GPU market and recent US export controls limiting Nvidia’s chip sales to Chinese companies.

Companies like Moore Threads are not just navigating a challenging business environment; they are actively reshaping it. Their efforts to innovate under pressure reflect a broader narrative in the tech world, where adversity often breeds ingenuity and resilience. As the global tech landscape continues to evolve, the story of Moore Threads serves as a compelling example of how companies can adapt, innovate, and thrive even under challenging circumstances.

Redmi Note 13 5G global variant gets three rear cameras instead of two

Earlier today, we reported on the renders of the Redmi Note 13 series global variant. Five devices are expected, out of which three of them will be 5G-enabled, while the remaining two will be limited to 4G connectivity.

The 5G models are the same as the ones sold in China. However, the renders suggest that the vanilla Redmi Note 13 5G will be slightly different. Let’s go through what it is.

Redmi Note 13 5G Global Variant

The renders of the Redmi Note 13 5G global variant reveal that it will have three rear cameras instead of two like the Chinese variant. The same happened for the Redmi Note 12 5G as well.

The images suggest that the international model will retain the primary 108MP main sensor. But unfortunately, it does not hint anything about the remaining two sensors. For the unaware, the Chinese version comes with a 2MP depth sensor just like its predecessor.

For the global markets, Xiaomi replaced the 2MP depth sensor on the Redmi Note 12 5G with a 2MP macro snapper and included an additional 8MP ultrawide unit. Perhaps, the same could happen for the international variant of Redmi Note 13 5G as well.

Other than the rear cameras, the handset will likely retain all the features of its Chinese counterpart.

The Redmi Note 13 5G sports a 6.67-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED display. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 chip paired with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. On the software front,  it boots MIUI 14 based on Android 13.

The device comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It draws energy from a 5,000mAh battery and carries support for 33W charging.

Coming to the front, the Moto G 5G (2024) is seen with a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout and a slightly thicker chin. However, the overall bezels surrounding the display are quite thin. To use Remote App Uninstallation from Google Play, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your phone or another device.
  2. Tap the “Manage apps & devices” option.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus might cost under ₹30,000 in India

The Redmi Note 13 series is set to launch in global markets starting January 2024. The lineup will make its debut first in India on January 4.

Ahead of that, the company has been teasing the features of these phones. But everything about them is already known as international markets are getting the same models sold in China.

The only thing that’s not known is how much they will cost. Recently, we learned about the price of Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus in Europe. Today, the price range for India emerges on the internet.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus

Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus could cost the same as its predecessor in India

According to influencer Abhishek Yadav on X (formerly Twitter), the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus’ retail box carries a ₹32,999 price tag. This price is applicable to the 12GB + 256GB variant of the product.

It is a known fact that almost all electronic devices in India are not sold at the price tags mentioned on their retail boxes. Their official selling prices are usually much cheaper.

For example, the 8GB + 256GB variant of Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus has a box price of ₹33,999. However, it was introduced at ₹29,999.

Therefore, the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus might actually cost under ₹30,000 in India. It could be priced similar to its predecessor or even cheaper.

For that price, consumers will be getting a handset with an IP68 rating (dust and water resistance), a 6.67-inch 1.5K (2712 x 1220 pixels) 120Hz curved OLED display, a 200MP camera, and 120W fast wired charging support.

Other features of the phone include a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra chip, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, dual stereo speakers, an IR blaster, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the display, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and MIUI 14 based on Android 13.

Non-tech companies in China turn to Nvidia amid escalating US-China tech conflict

In a strategic response to the intensifying tech war between Washington and Beijing, several non-tech Chinese firms are rushing to acquire Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) for artificial intelligence (AI) development. Among them is Shenzhen-listed landscape designer L&A Design, signaling a trend that highlights the broader impact of geopolitical tensions on the global technology landscape.

L&A Design’s Strategic Move:

L&A Design recently disclosed a substantial investment, amounting to 435 million yuan (US$60.5 million), to acquire up to 128 units of Nvidia servers with high-performance GPUs through a subsidiary. The move aims to bolster the company’s AI capabilities and navigate the complexities arising from the US-China tech conflict. The purchase, facilitated by Shenzhen Runxin Supply Chain, is set to be completed in two phases, with 64 servers expected by 2023, and the remaining by the end of 2024.

Market Response and Nvidia’s Adaptations:

Following the announcement, L&A Design’s stock price surged by the daily limit of 20%, reflecting investor confidence in the strategic decision. In response to US sanctions, Nvidia modified its chips, creating the A800 and H800 variants tailored for Chinese clients. However, subsequent controls in October restricted the sale of these modified chips to China, necessitating companies like L&A Design to explore alternative sources for their AI development needs.

Diversification Beyond Tech Firms:

L&A Design follows in the footsteps of Lotus Health, a powdered flavor maker, which previously revealed a deal to purchase Nvidia H800 GPU-based servers from Chinese server maker H3C. This growing trend underscores the broader impact of the US-China tech conflict on industries beyond the traditional technology sector.

Global Impact on Nvidia:

As US export restrictions impact Nvidia’s lower computing power AI chip products designed for the Chinese market, the company anticipates a significant hit to its fourth-quarter earnings. With over 90% of China’s $7 billion market for AI chips, Nvidia faces challenges from established players and emerging Chinese chip designers.

Chinese Chip Designers Challenge Nvidia’s Dominance:

In response to Nvidia’s challenges, Chinese chip designers, including major players like Huawei and Tencent, are aggressively entering the AI chip market. Huawei’s Ascend 910B chip and Tencent’s Zixiao AI inference chip are positioned as alternatives, with Tencent actively promoting its offerings to attract Nvidia’s clients.

Market Opportunity Amid Restrictions:

Despite potential challenges in winning orders due to production capacity constraints, Chinese chip designers view the current situation as an opportunity. US export curbs inadvertently fuel China’s self-development capability, with Chinese tech giants prioritizing sustainability over performance and building AI ecosystems without reliance on US chips.

In essence, the rush of non-tech Chinese firms towards Nvidia GPUs signals a broader reshaping of the global AI landscape, driven by geopolitical tensions and the pursuit of technological self-sufficiency.
