Snapchat will Now Let Users Embed Content, also Introduces AI-Powered Fill Features

Snapchat is evolving, and it’s not just about sending quirky pictures to your friends anymore. The platform has introduced two game-changing features that make sharing content easier and more interactive, levelling the playing field with social media giants like Instagram and TikTok.

Snapchat is trying hard to compete with Instagram and other social media platforms

The first feature allows users to embed Snapchat content, such as Lenses, Spotlight videos, and public stories, right into a website. This new capability makes Snapchat more versatile as a content-sharing platform. While Instagram and TikTok have long offered this feature, Snapchat is putting its unique spin by adding it as a natural progression from features like discovering local hotspots and its web-based platform rolled out earlier this year.

Snap

The second feature employs OpenAI technology to enhance your snaps. Unlike the standard filters and features, this new tool offers an imaginative view of your surroundings, filling in the border areas of a snap to complete the scene. It’s like Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill but in real-time, right on your smartphone. This feature is a treat for Snapchat+ subscribers, adding more value to the premium experience.

What’s notable here is Snapchat’s commitment to incorporating AI into its platform, a step that began with the launch of the My AI chatbot earlier this year. The company has been offering AI-driven features as exclusive perks for Snapchat+ subscribers, differentiating the premium experience from the standard one.

So why does this matter? As Snapchat gears up to compete with other social media platforms, these new features are not just additional tools; they signify a direction. They reveal how Snapchat is positioning itself as a more integrated and AI-enhanced platform, aiming to offer something for everyone—from the casual snap-shooter to the tech-savvy user.

Apple’s New Facetime Reactions are Getting Triggered during FaceTime Calls

Apple’s recent update for iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma is full of fresh additions to make your device more fun and interactive. While these updates promise to make communication more lively, they’ve also been causing quite the stir, especially in settings where a more somber tone is required.

The same Facetime reactions can also pop up during Facetime meetings

The update allows FaceTime users to add 3D reactions like emojis and other visual effects by making simple hand gestures. For instance, thumbs-up can prompt a 3D emoji, and other gestures can produce balloons or even fireworks on the screen. It sounds fun on paper, but in practice, not everyone is laughing.

iPhone 15 Pro Max iOS 17.0.3 performance and thermals

One of the most noteworthy complaints comes from the telehealth community. Imagine discussing a serious issue with your therapist, only for fireworks to burst on screen as you give a thumbs-up to acknowledge a point. This exact scenario happened to a user, as shared by Matt Haughey on Mastodon. It’s no wonder SimplePractice, a telehealth service, has started issuing warnings about FaceTime’s flashy features that are turned on by default.

The issue extends beyond therapy sessions. What if you’re on a professional call and an inadvertent hand gesture sends confetti streaming across the screen? It can be mortifying and not at all in line with the tone of a business discussion.

Though you can disable these 3D reactions, many users are unaware of this, leading to awkward and sometimes inappropriate moments. For those who rely on FaceTime for serious conversations, Apple‘s attempt to liven up interactions might be a case of good intentions gone awry. As it stands, sometimes less is more—even in the age of AR.

Twitch gets inspired by Instagram and adds Stories

Is Twitch becoming a new social media platform?

With the new announcement, Twitch has added a social feature that is clearly inspired by popular social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram. This feature works just like the one on other social media and allows streamers to upload pictures, texts, or videos that expire after 48 hours. As per official notes, the move is aimed at helping creators reach out to their audience and help them stay connected even when they are offline.

Twitch Stories

The feature was first teased back in July and is finally rolling out. Initially, the feature will only be accessible to Twitch affiliates and partners. Although they will need to have streamed at least once in the last 30 days to gain access to the stories feature. So now, every user with the latest version of the application will be able to see the stories at the top of the ‘Following’ page.

Keep in mind, that creators also need to have at least 30 subscribers to be able to make subscriber only stories. Twitch has also recommended that you use this feature to add “more value to your supporters’ subscriptions through exclusive content.” It added that “Viewers will see your stories live alongside stories created by other streamers they follow, so post regularly throughout the week to keep your community in-the-know and up-to-date between your streams.

Global Smartphone Sales Fall 8 Percent In Q3 YoY But Grows Compared To Q2, 2023: Counterpoint

The third quarter of the year between July to September ended recently. As per Counterpoint Research’s recent report, Apple and Samsung dominated the global smartphone sales occupying 10 positions in Q2, 2023. Now, the market research firm is back with the latest data on the smartphone market’s performance in Q3 this year. As expected, the smartphone market globally witnessed a slowdown. The shipments declined 8 percent year-on-year during the same period last year. However, it was more compared to a quarter-on-quarter basis. Read on to know all the details below.

Global smartphone market registers decline in Q3

The global smartphone sales registered a decline for the ninth consecutive quarter and it fell by 8 percent in Q3, 2023 YoY. However, it grew 2 percent compared to Q2, 2023 hinting at a positive outlook ahead. Counterpoint attributes the decline in shipments to a slowdown in consumer demand recovery. On the bright side, the research firm expects the momentum from the September quarter to be carried through the year-end due to the iPhone 15 series, the festive season in India, 11.11 sales in China, and the holiday season.

The research firm reported that MEA was the only region to clock a year-on-year growth in Q3 whereas developed markets experienced significant declines which is expected to see a rebound in sales in Q4.

As per Counterpoint, Samsung led the global smartphone market in Q3 with a 20 percent market share. The company’s A-series devices dominated the sales while the fifth-generation foldables received a mixed response with the Flip 5 outselling the Fold 5. Cupertino-based Apple bagged the second spot with a 16 percent market share despite the limited availability of the iPhone 15 series. Xiaomi came in third place whereas Vivo and OPPO were ranked fourth and fifth respectively. The three Chinese brands strengthened their positions in the home country along with India while also cutting back on overseas expansion.

Meanwhile, 34 percent of the market share was from other brands including Honor, Huawei, and Transsion Group. These were also the only ones to clock a YoY growth while others registered double-digit degrowth in Q3.

YouTube Spotlight Moments: A New Way for Brands to Reach Their Target Audience

In the videos we watch on YouTube, the songs we listen to on Spotify, the series and movies we view on Prime Video – in short, if we don’t pay for a premium service, ads are everywhere in our lives. However, as you might have noticed in the ads you watch, the content often aligns with your interests, the things you’ve researched, and yes, sometimes even the things you’ve merely thought about.

As you know, companies like Google invest heavily in targeted advertising. Now, this effort is being bolstered by artificial intelligence technologies. YouTube has introduced a new AI-powered advertising package called “Spotlight Moments” that allows brands to target their ads to specific videos. Here are the details…

YouTube’s New AI-Powered Ads Help Brands Target Special Cultural Moments

YouTube has introduced a new AI-powered advertising package called “Spotlight Moments” that allows brands to target their ads to specific cultural moments, such as holidays, major awards shows, and sporting events. Bu sayede örneğin Şampiyonlar Ligi ile ilgili bir video izlerken, Adidas’ın ürün reklamlarını görebileceksiniz.

YouTube Music

Advertisers can then serve their ads across these videos, as well as on a dedicated YouTube hub that is branded with the advertiser’s logo. The hub also features dynamically updated playlists of videos related to the cultural moment.

YouTube says that Spotlight Moments is a way for brands to “own the moment” around key events, when viewers are most engaged. The company also says that early tests of the new package have shown that it can lead to a significant increase in ad recall.

Here’s the Magisk Module to enable DisplayPort on the Pixel 8 Series

Android beats every other smartphone OS when it comes to customization. Despite denying claims about the DisplayPort feature on Pixel 8, the developers made it work with a few tweaks. The feature is present in the Pixel 8, but Google has disbanded it via the stable firmware prop. Here is a Magisk module that a tester created and made it initially functional to allay the concerns.

Must See: iPhone 15 Pro vs Google Pixel 8 Pro: Specs Comparison

What is DisplayPort on Pixel 8?

It is a feature that mirrors the Pixel 8 display to a compatible monitor using a USB Type-C cable. It is quite like the Samsung”s DeX but without much refinement.

The feature could become handy for users who work on the go.

Steps to Install DisplayPort Magisk Module

  1. Download and Install Magisk Manager on your Pixel 8
  2. Then Download the DisplayPort Magisk Module and Flash it via Magisk Manager.
  3. Reboot the Phone
  4. That’s it!

Unless Google makes the feature available officially via OTA, the users can enjoy it by following the process above.

There could be multiple reasons behind Google’s disabling the DisplayPort feature. The company could be working on a refined version to compete against Samsung’s DeX, or they want to polish the build before unveiling it officially.

Well, there are no worries, as already a working method is available to activate the DisplayPort on Pixel 8. If you have any queries, then make sure to comment in the respective XDA thread.

Minecraft is the best selling video game of all time, over 300 million copies shipped

Minecraft is the world’s best selling video game. Over 300 million copies of the game have been shipped since the title’s launch around 15 years ago. This is a major milestone for the company, so let’s have a look.

Minecraft has sold over 300 million copies

Mojang Studios, the company behind the best selling game of all time, has sold more than 300 million copies of the game. In comparison, the second highest selling game in the world is Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5, which sold over 185 million copies. In other words, Minecraft has blown past all of its competitors despite being such an old launch. It was first released back in 2013 and first crossed the 200 million mark back in 2020.

Minecraft 300 million

The studio announced this major milestone during a Minecraft Live event. During this live stream, Mojang even revealed certain new features that will be coming to the game. This includes the new trial chamber that brings traps and mobs that players must face in a series of rooms and corridors. As of right now, a new Star Wars: Path of the Jedi DLC and Planet Earth CLD are currently in the works and will be available on 7th November 2023 and early 2024 respectively.

According to Helen Chiang, head of Mojang Studios “As we approach the 15th anniversary, Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games of all time with over 300 million copies sold. Redmi K70 could come with a Xiaomi 13T-like design

At the Redmi Note 13 China launch, Lu Weibing hinted about the upcoming Redmi K70 series launch by the end of this year. Apart from this, the company hasn’t officially or unofficially unveiled any information about the upcoming Redmi K70 series. However, there are some leaks and certifications that shed some light on the specifications over the past time. In addition, a piece of new information is here via the Digital Chat Station on Weibo that the Redmi K70 could follow the design aspects of Xiaomi 13T.

Must See: Redmi K70 spotted with 90W fast charging on China’s 3C certification

It means the Redmi K70 will feature a Square Camera module featuring triple-rear sensors. Further, the smartphone will feature a glass cover instead of plastic. Dumping cheap material, the smartphone will come along with an all-metal frame. It is expected to feature a 5000 mAh battery on the board.

Redmi K70 bearing model code 23117RK66C appeared on the Geekbench a while back featuring an octa-core CPU having 1 + 2 + 5 core configuration while clocking at a maximum of 3.19 GHz. It seems the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but due to the absence of consolidated proof about the chipset specifications we are unable to confirm it fully. However, considering the presence of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the Redmi K60, it is highly likely the predecessor will feature the new SoC.

Like the Xiaomi 14, the Redmi K70 is also rumored to feature 90W charging capability instead of the 67W as seen on its predecessor. The Pro model outmatches the vanilla model and could come with 120W charging.

Nio Looks Beyond Cars, Trademark Application Hints at Broader Product Plans

Nio continues to expand its product line. When I say this, I’m not just referring to car models like Firefly, but also to diverse product categories like the recently introduced Nio Phone. This allows the company to not only strengthen its position in the industries it operates in but also to enter new markets. A recent surprising example of this is a chip. Nio has filed a trademark application for in-house chip production. Here are the details…

Nio Files Trademark Application for In-House Chips, Expanding Its Product Portfolio

Nio’s CEO, William Li, announced at the Innovation Technology Day last month that the company’s first self-developed chip will go into mass production in October. Now, according to the National Intellectual Property Administration’s Trademark Office website, NIO Automobile Technology filed a registration application for the “NIO Yang Jian” on September 21, 2023.

At first glance, Yang Jian appears to be just a chip that can process large amounts of LiDAR data in real time. However, the company has incorporated multiple subcategories into this trademark, such as computer software, chatbot software for simulated conversations, CPUs, AI-based interactive software, smart glasses for data processing, operating system programs, interactive computer systems, and more.

Based on this, we can say that Nio’s plans are much more extensive. In fact, this approach is a strategy employed by many tech giants, including Apple. Even though today’s world is very global and sourcing some components from abroad might seem cheaper, it can lead to significant disadvantages during challenging times.

Therefore, companies are opting to reduce their dependency on external sources in various areas, especially in chip manufacturing. It’s possible to say that Nio is also taking similar steps and is on its way to becoming a global technology giant.

Despite being a VA panel, it features high contrast ratio of 4000:1, 1ms response time, and AMD’s FreeSync technology. The display is curved with a 1500R panel and a wide 21:9 aspect ratio. Just earlier this month, the brand had even announced another 27-inch gaming monitor with a 180Hz refresh rate.

AOC CU34G3X Curved Gaming Monitor

This gaming monitor also comes with factory color calibration out of the box. It covers 93 percent sRGB and 00 percent DCI-P3 color gamut with 300 nits of peak brightness. AOC claims that it factory calibrates this model to Delta E deviations of less than 2 in relation to the sRGB gamut. This means that it has applications for certain creative workloads outside of gaming. For connectivity, it offers a pair of DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports along with 100 x 100 mm VESA mounts.

AOC CU34G3X Pricing and Availability

AOC has only launched the CU34G3X curved gaming monitor in China at the moment. It has a price tag of 2,999 Yuan, which is roughly around 411 US Dollars. Unfortunately, the company has yet to confirm whether this monitor will be launched globally. Although, there’s a chance its gaming brand AGON might release this model for the overseas market outside of China.

iPhone 15 Pro Max users report screen burn-in issues

In addition to other problems that have been reported with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, some users are now complaining about screen burn-in.

iPhone 15 Pro Max screen burn-in

Screen burn-in is a permanent discoloration of a portion of a display that occurs when an image is displayed on the screen for a long period of time. It is a problem that can happen with OLED displays, which are the type of displays used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

A number of users on Reddit and Apple’s support forum have reported this issue and shared images of the handset with elements of the user interface appearing as ghostly shadows.

One user, who said they use their phone normally for tasks such as browsing the web, checking email, and watching videos, posted a photo of their phone with a burn-in of the home screen and a YouTube video thumbnail. Another user commented in the same Reddit thread with an image of their phone with a ghostly keyboard burned into the screen.

However, the issue does not appear to be widespread, and reports of burn-in on the iPhone 15 Pro Max at this stage remain rare, there are some simple steps to take if you do experience it.

Your first step is to contact Apple support or make a booking at an Apple Store Genius Bar, where the company’s experts can troubleshoot the problem. If the issue is deemed to be a hardware fault, you’re well within the one-year limited warranty that Apple offers with its new devices in the US.
