China’s First Suspended Monorail Opens for Operation, Offering a Futuristic Ride

Technology continues to simplify our lives and save us time. For instance, distances that once took a long time to cover can now be traversed in just hours or even minutes. However, this convenience comes with its set of challenges. For example, the environmental pollution caused by our cars is silently pushing our planet towards disaster.

Recognizing this, authorities are hoping to mitigate traffic and environmental pollution with eco-friendly public transportation solutions. China is among the countries leading this initiative. Recently, the country opened its first suspended monorail for operation, offering a futuristic mode of transport. Here are the details…

Suspended Monorail Opens in China, Offering Stunning Views and a Glimpse into the Future

For those who might not know, a suspended monorail is a type of monorail where the train hangs from the bottom of the track. This design has several advantages over traditional monorails, such as reduced noise and vibration, enhanced safety, and a more efficient use of space. Recently, China introduced this beneficial public transportation system to its citizens. China’s first suspended monorail line began operating in Wuhan.

China's First Suspended Monorail
China’s First Suspended Monorail

The line, called the Wuhan Guanggu Aerial Rail Tourist Line, is located in the city’s east lake high-tech zone and is designed to connect the Nine Peaks National Forest Park and the Longquanshan Ming Chuwang Tomb Archaeological Site Park. The line is 10.5 kilometers long and has six stations. Trains run at a top speed of 60 kilometers per hour and can carry up to 220 passengers. They are fully automated and have large windows that offer passengers panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Of course, the cost of being part of such a comprehensive project is quite high. The total cost of the project was 2.5 billion Yuan, which is approximately US$341 million. However, money is not the only thing we need to be a part of such a project; we also need time. For instance, construction began in 2019 and was completed in 2023. We hope that the number of such eco-friendly projects increases over time.

Google is working on a new “Performance Panel” feature for Chrome

Google is reportedly working on a new feature called the Performance Panel for Chrome on Windows 11 and macOS. The panel will likely allow users to track their browser’s memory and CPU usage, as well as the performance of individual tabs.

Google Chrome Performance Panel

Google has been working on several performance-related changes for Chrome recently, including new tab discard controls and more. The Performance Panel is likely a part of the company’s broader strategy to highlight the efficiency, speed, and security of its browser.

In a post on the Chromium bug forum, a Google engineer noted that the final stages of designing the new panel are underway and that the team is “working on finalizing the design for the contents of the new performance side panel and need to prototype how the different performance cards will be displayed. To simplify prototyping, we are checking in the scaffolding for a blank side panel.”

Folks at Windowslatest believe that the Performance Panel is similar to the browser essentials feature in Microsoft Edge. One of the key features of the Performance Panel is likely to be Memory Saver. When enabled, this feature will prioritize resources towards active tabs, ensuring that Chrome only uses memory when it is actively being used.

For example, if you have multiple tabs of Instagram open in Chrome, but you have been using the YouTube tab for the past few minutes, Chrome will temporarily release memory from the non-active Instagram tabs. The freed memory would then be shared across YouTube and other browser features.

The Performance Panel could also include a battery efficiency feature. When the user’s device battery level drops to 20%, Google Chrome would proactively prompt the user to activate a battery-saving mode.

These are all features that come with Edge’s browser essentials. And it is encouraging to see Google working on similar features for Chrome, as it will give users more control over how their browser uses resources. This could help to improve battery life, performance, and overall user experience.

Fitbit Charge 6 Renders Depict a Budget-Friendly Challenger to Pixel Watch 2

The wearable tech space is buzzing, especially with the much-anticipated Pixel Watch 2 right around the corner. But let’s not forget Fitbit, a pioneer in the fitness tracker market, who’s also got some new hardware on the way—the Fitbit Charge 6.

The Fitbit tweak may make the user experience more smooth and efficient

So, why should you care? Well, the upcoming Charge 6 is showing that you don’t need to shell out $350 for advanced health tracking and smart features. Leaked details suggest that the Charge 6 is more than just an incremental upgrade to its predecessor, the Charge 5.

fitbit-sense

One standout feature? A physical button on the side. Sure, it might seem trivial, but this tiny tweak could be a game-changer, making it far easier to navigate through menus or check the time. It’s all about making user experience smooth and efficient, something Fitbit has always aimed for.

The Charge 6 is also expected to arrive in a palette of new colors—black, beige, and pink—making it distinct from its predecessor’s more subdued tones. Plus, Google’s clever additions like YouTube Music and Google Maps integration are also on the cards. This tech infusion should make the Charge 6 a formidable competitor in the wearables scene, offering a compelling blend of smart features and fitness tracking without breaking the bank.

And speaking of budget-friendly options, don’t count out the Fitbit Sense 2. While there’s still no word on its official release, it remains a strong alternative for those not keen on emptying their wallets for the Pixel Watch 2.

While the Pixel Watch 2 may hog the limelight for its integration of Google services and Fitbit’s health tech, the Charge 6 is making a strong case for itself as a budget-friendly, feature-rich alternative. Mark your calendars, folks. The Fitbit Charge 6 is expected to make its official debut on September 28, beating the Pixel Watch 2 to market and giving Garmin’s Vivosmart 5 a run for its money, all at a sub-$200 price tag.

Polestar 3 Electric SUV Faces the Heat in UAE as it Nears Production

With electric vehicles (EVs) gaining traction, Polestar is making sure its upcoming Polestar 3 mid-size SUV is prepared for any climate. The company recently wrapped up an extreme hot weather test in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), signaling that the SUV’s development is entering its final stages.

Three Prototypes Display Cars are available for Public Viewing

Last July, the Polestar 3 had its dynamic debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. However, Polestar didn’t stop there; the prototypes were immediately flown to the UAE for rigorous testing in scorching conditions. With temperatures soaring up to 122°F (50°C), the vehicles were driven around the bustling cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as well as the surrounding deserts.

Polestar

The aim? To fine-tune the SUV’s climate system to ensure optimal performance in some of the world’s hottest environments. According to Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO, this is just one of several extreme weather tests the vehicle will undergo before hitting the market. “The development and testing program is progressing well, and production will start in the first quarter of 2024,” Ingenlath stated.

While the production timeline might seem distant, the Polestar 3 is already making its presence felt across global retail spaces. Three prototype display cars are available for public viewing in 27 different markets, aiming to stir interest and anticipation. Test drive models are expected to follow in 2024.

Pricing for the U.S. market starts at $85,300, which includes a Long-range Dual motor. A Performance pack is also available for an additional $6,000. The pricing doesn’t include potential incentives like the federal tax credit of $7,500, for which the SUV should be eligible. For those eager to reserve their Polestar 3, a fully refundable deposit of $1,000 can secure your order online. US deliveries are projected to begin in the second quarter of 2024, making it likely that the Polestar 3 will be available as a 2025 model.

Reddit’s Contributor Program will Let Users Earn Real Money from Online Interactions

Reddit, a platform with over 50 million daily active users, has launched a Contributor Program. Now, users in the United States, including moderators, can earn real money for their content and contributions. Monthly payouts are based on the karma and gold received by the user.

Users can click on “Get Verified to Start Earning” on their profile

Here’s how it works: Users can click on “Get Verified to Start Earning” from their Reddit profile to join the program. There are two earning categories: “standard contributors” earn 90 cents per gold, while “top contributors” earn $1 per gold. To qualify as a standard contributor, you need at least 10 gold and a karma score between 100 to 4,999 from the past year. For top contributors, the requirement is 10 gold and over 5,000 karma.

Reddit

In addition to this, Reddit has updated its gold system. Users can long-press the upvote icon to choose from six different gold awarding options, starting at $1.99 for one gold, all the way up to $49.00 for 25 gold.

This move aligns Reddit with other platforms like Facebook and Instagram, which have similar user monetization tactics. However, the new system might shift user focus towards content that earns gold and karma, possibly affecting the platform’s quality of discussion. By introducing this program, Reddit is changing the way we think about social media engagement and monetization.

OnePlus Pad Go confirmed to bring Dolby Atmos Quad speakers

After launching its first tablet earlier this year, OnePlus is now gearing up to launch the new OnePlus Pad Go. The new slate is confirmed to launch in India on October 6 and the company has already started revealing many of its specifications. A recent teaser confirmed the tablet will bundle a 2.5K resolution display. Now, OnePlus has shared the upcoming device will bring a quad-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos Audio.

OnePlus Pad Go will be a multimedia powerhouse?

OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus Pad Go will feature a quad speaker setup which will be supported by Dolby Atmos audio. As per the company, the device will offer a “cinematic sound experience”. Paired with an 11.35-inch display with a 2.4K resolution and a 7:5 aspect ratio, the OnePlus Pad Go might actually offer a solid multimedia experience.

So far, the details about the tablet are limited. OnePlus has generously released the images of the device, revealing its dual-tone design. It retains the same design as the OG OnePlus Pad with curved edges, a centrally-placed camera module, and sizeable bezels on all sides of the display. The tablet is confirmed to arrive in Twin Mint color.

We reviewed the original OnePlus Pad and found it to be good for content consumption. With an 11.61-inch LCD screen sporting a resolution of 2800 x 2000 pixels and 144Hz refresh rate, the tablet offers good visuals. The Dimensity 9000 chipset paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 makes sure the device runs without hiccups. However, we noted in our review the OnePlus Pad is limited by Android OS.

The OnePlus Pad Go is supposed to be a toned-down version of the OnePlus Pad so you might see a less-powerful processor and probably a smaller battery. The software limitations will continue to be there until something is done on a broader scale.

ChatGPT introduces Voice and Image prompts, will initially roll out to Plus users

OpenAI has recently introduced new multimodal capabilities for ChatGPT, enabling users to engage in voice conversations and share images with the model in real-time. These features will be initially rolled out for Plus and Enterprise subscribers, followed by availability for free users.

ChatGPT

Voice Input for Mobile Users

The voice input, similar to what we find in mobile voice assistants like Siri and Google Assistant, allows users to speak their queries. The system then translates this speech into text, processes it, and responds vocally. This feature is accessible on both iOS and Android and has great potential for various applications.

Image Input for Visual Queries

Similarly, the image input feature, resembling Google Lens, enables users to convey their questions using images. ChatGPT analyzes the uploaded images and provides relevant responses. Users can even use drawing tools to highlight specific parts of the image or clarify their questions through text or voice. This feature aims to enhance the user experience by enabling dynamic conversations. It can be especially helpful for tasks like bicycle repairs or cooking as demonstrated by the OpenAI, where users can upload images of objects or instruction manuals and receive explanations and solutions.

OpenAI’s decision to integrate voice and image capabilities into ChatGPT not only broadens the range of interactions but also opens up exciting creative possibilities. However, OpenAI is aware of the potential for misuse and is taking steps to prevent unethical applications of these advanced features.

How to use the features?

To start using voice with ChatGPT, go to Settings in the mobile app, access New Features, opt into voice conversations, tap the headphone icon on the home screen’s top-right corner, and select your preferred voice from five options.

For image prompts, tap on the plus button and then either capture or select an image and use drawing tools to guide the assistant.

OpenAI has also launched DALL-E 3 recently, an upgraded AI art tool that boasts integration with ChatGPT, enabling users to create detailed prompts more easily. DALL-E 3 addresses the challenge of generating realistic human hands and improves its performance with complex commands compared to its predecessor, DALL-E 2.
