In a recent report by IT Home on June 17, JPMorgan Chase, the renowned investment bank, revealed the latest findings from Wave7 Research’s April 2023 data. The survey, which focused on US operators, unveiled an interesting shift in iPhone sales volume. According to JPMorgan Chase analysts, the iPhone 14 Standard Edition has now overtaken the iPhone 14 Pro Max, becoming the current best-selling iPhone model.

During the month of April, the iPhone 14 Standard Edition claimed a 19% market share among US operators, surpassing the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which slipped to second place with 18% market share. Surprisingly, the iPhone 14 Plus, often regarded as the least favourite out of all the models in the lineup, managed to maintain a stable market share of 7%.

Adding further insight, JPMorgan analysts highlighted that the overall iPhone market share among the three major US operators witnessed a significant increase in April, reaching 67%. This figure represents a notable jump from the 61% market share recorded in March.

Although the report did not provide specific numbers for other iPhone models, the JPMorgan analyst did acknowledge the ongoing popularity of the iPhone 11, which continues to be Apple’s core offering for prepaid sales.

This latest development showcases the dynamic nature of the smartphone market, where consumer preferences can quickly shift. The Retroid Pocket 3 Plus Metal Edition is heavier than the standard model by 50g. It weighs 285g mainly due to its metal shell. The Pocket 3 Plus was announced last November and featured a 4.7-inch display with a UNISOC Tiger T618 chipset. It packs a 4,500mAh battery and has 4GB RAM. These features were all retained in the refreshed handheld. The nature of the metal casing used for the new gaming handheld was not disclosed by the company. As per the higher weight of the Metal Edition, it has a 21% increase from the standard model. The use of a metal case provides a premium feel for the product.

The inclusion of Hall effect joysticks is another improvement from the standard model. This provides for improved accuracy and the elimination of drift errors. The Retroid Pocket 3 Plus Metal Edition will be available for pre-order from June 17. Apple Beats Studio Buds+ are now available for purchase in online Apple Stores in European countries ranging from the UK to France and Germany. Apple is charging $216 in France, and $227 in the UK. They cost $170 in the US. Beats Studio Buds+ are available in black and ivory colors. You can also choose to go all Nothing with a transparent version.

If we talk about their specifications, the new Beats Studio Buds+ offer a significant upgrade over the original model, launched in 2021. For one, the ANC on the new earbuds is 1.6 times better, while the Transparency mode is 2 times more transparent than the Studio Buds.

The Beats hearables offer up to 36 hours of battery life with ANC turned off. This means that you can listen to music or podcasts for up to 9 hours on a single charge, and then get an additional 27 hours of battery life from the charging case. This is more battery life than the Studio Buds, which only offer 24 hours of total battery life. The earbuds also support fast charging, so you can get 1 hour of battery life with just 5 minutes of charging. There’s no wireless charging, though.

Further, the earbuds get upgraded voice-targeting microphones, which are claimed to be three times larger than their predecessors. They also retain their IPX4 sweat and water-resistant ratings.

Windows 11 Beta lets you get around distracting app notifications

The latest Windows 11 Beta wants to help you tackle this. Microsoft is rolling out two new builds for Windows Insiders enrolled users in the Beta Channel. One of these builds, labeled 22631.1900, tests ways to minimize bothersome notifications from apps.

According to the official blog post, Microsoft is rolling out two beta builds— build 22631.1900 with new features rolling out and build 22621.1900 with new features off by default. The company notes that Insiders who got the build with new features turned off by default can check for updates and choose to install the update that will have features rolling out.

The changelog of build 22631.1900 mentions that Windows is getting its notifications improved. It tests a new feature that minimizes distractions from notification toasts (small pop-up notifications that appear at the top of your screen). If you are not interacting with toasts from a particular app, the system will suggest that you turn off the toast banners for that app. This will stop the banners from appearing, but you will still be able to find the toasts in the notification center.

This feature has just started rolling out, so not all Insiders in the Beta Channel will see it right away. In addition, the build also boosts Wi-Fi by enhancing connection performance. Passpoint Wi-Fi networks will now support this improvement, and these types of networks will display a URL in Quick Settings to provide users with information about the venue or event.

Intel drops “i” from future Core CPU names as it throws in a new Ultra tier

But moving forward, the company may get rid of the “i” from the names of its processors, branding them to a simpler “Core 3/5/7/9” concept. This rebranding will apparently make Intel’s products better align with customer requests. Additionally, the company is introducing an Ultra tier for higher-end chips.

Say goodbye to the “i” and hello to “Ultra”

Benchmarks of the upcoming “Meteor Lake generation” of CPUs have leaked, revealing the name “Core Ultra 5 1003H,” as reported by VideoCardz. The absence of the “i” in the processor’s name suggests that Intel is indeed abandoning the iconic letter. The reasoning behind this decision is intriguing—Intel believes that the name “Intel” is becoming overshadowed, and customers primarily identify the company through terms like “Core i5” or “Core i7.”

“When we looked at how the tech press, how our retailers, our OEMs, our partners talk about it, it was interesting to see how we got shortchanged all the way to a letter and a number,” Christopher Hirsch, Intel’s director of product branding, told The Verge.

Furthermore, the US tech giant will introduce a new tier called “Ultra” in its branding, positioned before the number. This means the future high-end processors may be referred to as “Intel Core Ultra X.” Intel has clarified that generational information will still be included at the end, such as “Intel Core X processor 1300AB.” The company has stated that both the standard Core and Core Ultra processors will be compatible with its Intel Arc graphics (Via Engadet).

The Ark Zero electric quadricycle has been unveiled as the UK’s cheapest electric vehicle. The Ark Zero Electric is being propped as a very competitive rival to the Citroen Ami and comes quite cheaper. The launch of the quadricycle today makes it UK’s most affordable electric vehicle.

The new electric quadricycle was designed and built by Ark, which is arguably UK’s first all-electric car company. The company says it aims to drive forward the UK’s transition to cleaner and sustainability-focused transportation solutions. The Ark Zero is a tiny vehicle with dimensions of 98.4 x 47.3 x 64 inches in length, width, and height. The compact EV has a 67.7-inch wheelbase while its bodywork and chassis are integrated into a single unit. The Zero is slightly shorter than the Ami but a bit taller.

The Ark Zero’s chassis is made entirely of aluminum with the monocoque construction adding to its rigidity and safety. The choice of aluminum was based on its excellent energy absorption properties than steel. An aluminum chassis is better suited to withstand a crash. Aluminum is also lighter and will not corrode, unlike steel. The Zero can accommodate only two persons – the driver and a passenger in the rear seat. It can also take a pet and it has a net weight of 489kg. Four color variants are available for the Ark Zero namely black, white, grey, and red.

The Ark Zero has a range of 80km and a top speed of 45km/h. It is equipped with a 3hp motor and an 80Ah lithium-ion battery. The EV will only be available in the UK for now. It can be ordered directly from the Ark website and the delivery will be made in about 16 weeks. The Ark Zero is priced at £5,995 ($7,650) and is available in a single specification.

The Xiaomi Outdoor Camera AW300 is a feature-rich security camera designed for outdoor use. It comes equipped with two powerful white lights and two infrared lights, enabling intelligent full-color night vision. When motion is detected, the camera automatically activates the white lights to provide a bright environment.

One of the key features of the AW300 is its ability to send timely notifications to the user’s mobile phone when it detects changes in the captured image or detects movement within the defined electronic fence area. It can even recognize the movement of electric vehicles and cars. If someone intrudes into the electronically fenced area, the camera can emit an audible alarm accompanied by high-frequency light flashing.

Earlier today, the OnePlus 11 got a software update that bumped up its Android security level up to June 2023 level. Now, the OnePlus 10T from last year is also getting the same treatment along with a fix to the camera app.

The OxygenOS 13.1.0.580 comes with firmware version CPH2411_13.1.0.580(EX01). As implied by the firmware version, this update is only available for Indian users. As mentioned above, it comes with the latest June 2023 Android security patch along with improved system stability, better battery performance, and improved camera stability. Microsoft has officially announced that it is ending game development for its older Xbox One generation of gaming console. The company has announced that they will no longer be making any games for these older consoles as they have “moved on” to their 9th gen Xbox Series S and Series X models.

The American Tech giant’s Xbox Game Studio Chief Matt Booty stated that “We’ve moved on to Gen 9”. Although, it isn’t all bad news since the brand has confirmed that it will continue to support Xbox One hardware as well as games that are still running on the previous generation. But, Microsoft has officially announced that none of its internal studios are developing any new games for the platform. But this basically implies that other game studios making titles for the Xbox One is also unlikely.

Furthermore, the latest Xbox Games Showcase didn’t unveil any new first party games that ran on Xbox One, which confirms this announcement. On the other hand, the brand is pushing its cloud gaming platform further with the Xbox Cloud Gaming service. This enables it to offer hefty titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator to Xbox One owners. Booty added that “That’s how we’re going to maintain support”.

Now, we can expect the team to solely focus on their latest gen Xbox Series X and Series S console models. These newer consoles offers various improvements in performance and enable gamers to run certain titles at up to 120fps, which makes them better for competitive titles. Interestingly enough, this announcement also arrives mere days after the company was found ‘accidentally’ collecting kids information illegally on the Xbox.

The June update for the Galaxy S23 series is currently rolling out in South East Asian countries including Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It is expected to arrive in various other regions. The update has firmware version S91xBXXU2AWF1. It has a large 2.2GB file size. The update also brings a June security patch. It’s worth noting that the updated build number will vary depending on the region.

Users who have a Galaxy S23 series device can head to Settings > Software Update > Tap Download and Install if it is available.

A Twitter user has shared a changelog of what the June 2023 update for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series brings. It includes significant improvements to the camera including a 2x zoom option in the camera’s portrait mode, resolved autofocus and HDR performance issues, and an overhauled night mode processing. Additionally, the haptics are also improved along with smoother UI animations and transitions and system stability.

Recently, Samsung started rolling out the June 2023 security update for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 that brings fixes for over 60 security flaws found in Android phones and tablets.

ASUS ROG Ally To Be Available From Flipkart, Sale Date Revealed

Earlier today, ASUS teased the arrival of its ROG Ally handheld gaming console in India. The device debuted last month in multiple markets. Now, a Twitter user has spotted the microsite of the device on Flipkart confirming its availability on the e-commerce platform. It also reveals the sale date of the ROG Ally.

ASUS ROG Ally sale date revealed

As per the Flipkart listing, the ASUS ROG Ally will be available for purchase on Flipkart starting July 7th. This means that we can expect the device to launch before the sale date. ASUS is yet to share an official launch date of the handheld gaming console. Since the Taiwanese brand has already teased the device, we can expect more details to be announced in the coming days. The ROG Ally will be the first official handheld device in India in many years since the PlayStation Portable.

The Flipkart microsite also reveals the key specifications of the ROG Ally. It will be similar to the global variant. The device is confirmed to feature a 7-inch touchscreen display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 7ms response time, and 500 nits peak brightness. The screen will be shielded with Gorilla Glass Victus and DXC Coating. The handheld gaming console will be equipped with RDNA 3 graphics based on Zen 4 architecture. The device is confirmed to be pre-bundled with three months of game pass. It will be compatible with Steam, Epic, Xbox Game Pass, and more. It is said to offer a battery life of 2 hours on heavy gaming and 6.8 hours on YouTube and Netflix.

Apple announced its next-generation iOS 17 software for iPhones at WWDC which took place this month. The new features with the upcoming software version will start rolling out later this year. iOS 17 will make easier to change forgotten new iPhone passcode

Apple will reportedly add a new feature that will allow users to reset their iPhone’s new passcode with the previous passcode within 72 hours of the change. In simple terms, if a user changes their phone’s passcode but forgets the new one, they still have 72 hours to go back to the old passcode. However, it’s worth noting that users must remember the old passcode before creating another new one.

With the new feature, whenever a user enters an incorrect passcode, they will have the option to reset it. They will see a ‘Forgot Passcode’ option at the bottom of the screen that will lead to a new page called the ‘Try Passcode Reset” option. Tapping on this option users will be able to enter their old passcode and also create a new one.

The passcode reset feature on iOS 17 seems like a savior. However, it will only work if users forget their new password in the first 72 hours after the change. For security purposes, there is also an option to disable the feature by tapping on the ‘Expire Previous Password Now’ in the Face ID and Passcode settings.

Apple disables iPhone after failed repeated attempts to unlock the device. It is then extended to a permanent lock until the iPhone is put in recovery mode. Recovery mode is for safeguarding devices from getting into the wrong hands. It allows users to erase their iPhones and set it up again.
