Samsung has recently rolled out the June 2023 security update for its popular foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. This update brings the latest firmware versions, F711BXXU5EWF1 and F721BXXU3CWE6, to the devices in the UK. While the update primarily focuses on enhancing security, it doesn’t introduce any new features or performance enhancements.

What’s new in this June 2023 security update?

The June 2023 security patch addresses a total of 64 security flaws across various Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Out of these, 53 fixes are sourced from Google, targeting vulnerabilities found in Android devices. Among them, three are classified as critical, while the remaining 50 are marked as highly important. Additionally, Samsung has included 11 fixes to address security vulnerabilities specific to its own devices.

Samsung has provided details about three of the 11 vulnerabilities, referred to as SVEs or Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures. However, the remaining vulnerabilities will be disclosed once all Galaxy devices have received the June 2023 security patch or subsequent updates. These particular flaws affect Galaxy devices running Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. One vulnerability impacts devices utilizing Exynos chips, while the others pertain to flaws in Knox and its CC (Common Criteria) mode.

To check for the new update on your Galaxy Z Flip 3 or Z Flip 4 in the UK, simply navigate to the Settings menu and select the Software Update section. From there, tap on “Download and Install” to initiate the update process.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 was released in 2021 and initially shipped with Android 11. It subsequently received updates to Android 12 in late 2021 and Android 13 in late 2022. Sammobile reports that the Galaxy S23 series will be first to get Android 14 beta update in the third week of July. The outlet says Samsung was waiting for Google to reach platform stability with the Android 14 beta before starting its own development. The beta update will gradually be rolled out for other devices too.

Last year’s One UI 5 rollout was the fastest so far and Samsung said it wants the next update to be even faster. The company wasn’t joking because we are apparently receiving the One UI 6 beta a few weeks earlier than the first One UI 5 beta, which also suggests that the stable releases will be earlier compared to last year.

Samsung has already begun updating its apps with One UI 6.0 support a few weeks ago, indicating that an official announcement for the beta program may be imminent. In addition to the Korean company, Oppo has also went ahead and confirmed Android 14 update for 11 of its smartphones, including Find X5 Pro and Reno 8 Pro.

They have a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of up to 106dB, a distortion rate of as low as 96 dB, and a dynamic range of 102 dB.

For connectivity, the earbuds use a Qualcomm QCC5141 Bluetooth chip with dual DSP and dual-core CPU architecture. This ensures the dual stability of Bluetooth audio and system operation. The FW3 have also officially obtained the Snapdragon Sound certification.

The FiiO FW3 true wireless earbuds support the aptX, AAC, and SBC codecs. The Future of Electric Bikes in Question!

The increasing popularity of electric scooters and bikes has led to some problems. Riders who ride on sidewalks endanger pedestrians, and those who ride on roads without proper training or knowledge of the rules can cause traffic hazards. These problems have led to fatalities in some cases. For example, in 2019, there were over 10,000 traffic accidents involving e-bikes in China, resulting in over 2,000 deaths. This number is likely to have increased in the four years since. Further, it is reported that a first tier city in China, Guangzhou had to investigate and deal with more than 1.6 million cases of electric bicycle traffic violations by 2022, a staggering increase as compared to the previous years.

In response to the growing number of traffic violations and accidents involving electric bicycles, some Chinese cities, such as Guangzhou, are considering restricting their use. Guangzhou alone has over 3.22 million registered electric bikes, but the actual number may be higher.

The Guangzhou government has recently released a draft notice on the management of electric bicycles, proposing restrictions on their usage based on location and time. According to the draft notice, many areas across the city would be subjected to the restrictions, including full-day limitations, restrictions from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and peak-hour restrictions.

Guangzhou traffic police show that in 2021, they handled over 1.12 million cases of traffic violations by electric bikes, up 169% from the previous year. In 2022, the number of violations exceeded 1.6 million, a sharp increase even after comprehensive governance and educational guidance efforts. Moreover, the number of electric bicycle owners purchasing insurance is alarmingly low, with only approximately 240,000 insured. The proposed restrictions are a move to address the growing safety concerns surrounding electric bicycles.

However, some people are concerned that restricting the use of e-bikes will make it more difficult for people to get around, especially those who cannot afford cars. They argue that e-bikes are a convenient and affordable form of transportation, and that banning them would only make the problem of traffic congestion worse.

It is unclear whether the benefits of e-bikes will convince Guanzhou’s administrators to not implement a ban. Also, this problem is not unique to China, as city administrations around the world are considering similar bans. The debate over e-bikes is likely to continue for some time, but it is clear that something needs to be done to address the traffic chaos and safety concerns caused by these vehicles.

Moreover, it’s worth noting that all the devices in the Galaxy Tab S9 series are expected to be IP67 waterproof, enhancing their durability and allowing for usage in various environments. Leaked renderings of the upcoming Xiaomi 14 Pro smartphone have recently surfaced, offering a glimpse into its design and features. The leaked images reveal that the Xiaomi 14 Pro will largely retain the design language of its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13 Pro (check out our full review of Xiaomi 13 Pro), emphasizing design inheritance and brand recognition.

Xiaomi 14 Pro Renderings: A Familiar Design Language

Leakster SPinfoJP posted these renders. Previously, the leaker accurately revealed the rendering of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra (check out our full review on Xiaomi 13 Ultra) with a 90% accuracy rate, with minor differences in details, lending high credibility to the current leak.

The renderings showcase a square camera module on the rear of the device, housing three cameras, including a periscope telephoto lens positioned at the bottom. This marks a departure from previous Xiaomi series models, as the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Pro shows minimal changes in appearance.

While the back panel design remains largely unchanged, the front of the Xiaomi 14 Pro will undergo significant alterations as we have already seen in a past render leak. It will feature a narrow bezel design with slightly curved edges, resulting in a four-curved display. The 2.5D curvature effect will be minimal and limited to the black border area, ensuring it does not affect the display quality. According to a previous leak, Xiaomi 14 series will also have a flat display variant. The premium variant will feature the curved display while the base variant will likely house the flat display.

One of the key highlights of the Xiaomi 14 Pro will be the inclusion of the highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This chipset, expected to be released by Qualcomm in October, promises to deliver enhanced performance and power efficiency, setting the stage for a seamless user experience.

Traditionally, Xiaomi has followed a November launch pattern for its flagship devices. Therefore, it is highly likely that the Xiaomi 14 series, including the Xiaomi 14 Pro, will make its global debut and officially launch in November.

iQOO has recently announced the official launch date of the Neo 7 Pro 5G smartphone in India, scheduled for July 4. The brand has been teasing various features of the device, including its utilization of the powerful Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. Known tipster Mukul Sharma has now leaked the performance benchmarks of the upcoming smartphone.

The tipster has leaked the Antutu benchmark numbers of the iQOO Neo 7 Pro coming to India. The listing reveals that the device achieves a mind-blowing score of 1,316,514. With that score, it is safe to say that the device is more than capable of running demanding gaming titles with ease. The thermals also appear to be quite balanced as the CPU temperature maxed out at 38.2 degrees Celsius during the stress test. If the rumors of this device costing less than Rs. 40,000 turns out to be true, Indian customers will likely have a new mid-range gaming champion on their hands.

iQOO Neo 7 Pro 5G specifications

Since the iQOO Neo 7 Pro is most likely a rebranded iQOO Neo 7 Racing Edition, it is expected to feature the following specs.

The iQOO Neo 7 Pro 5G is expected to feature a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a high refresh rate of 120Hz. Powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, the smartphone will offer impressive performance with its 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It will be available in two color options: Pop Orange and Interstellar Black.

In terms of camera capabilities, the iQOO Neo 7 Pro 5G will sport a 16-megapixel front-facing camera for capturing selfies. On the rear, it will house a triple camera setup, including a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens.

The device is said to pack a 5,000mAh battery with support for 120W fast charging. Additional features will include an under-display fingerprint scanner and the FunTouch OS 13-based Android 13 operating system.
