Safari Browser Receives Privacy Updates among Other Features

Safari is a web browser developed by Apple Inc. and is designed specifically for use on Apple devices such as Macs, iPhones, and iPads. It is known for its sleek and intuitive interface, fast performance, and seamless integration with Apple’s ecosystem. Safari offers a range of features including a robust privacy and security system, intelligent tracking prevention, and built-in support for Apple’s iCloud Keychain for password management. The browser also supports various extensions, allowing users to customize their browsing experience further. Safari is widely regarded for its efficient power management, making it an excellent choice for Apple device users who value both speed and energy efficiency.

New Safari seems to blur the line between desktop and web apps

While Safari may not always steal the spotlight in macOS, Apple continues to invest in its web browser, unveiling the latest version with a host of notable enhancements. From improved privacy controls and encryption features to the innovative creation of web apps, Safari is set to redefine the browsing experience.

Safari

One of the most exciting features is the introduction of web apps. Similar to Google Chrome‘s shortcuts, Safari allows users to place websites directly in the dock, just like any other app. Upon opening, these web apps present a minimalist interface, concealing the fact that users are interacting with a browser. By blurring the line between desktop and web apps, Safari aligns itself with Chrome’s ambition, particularly as Chrome OS gained momentum.

The significance of Safari’s improvements, however, lies in privacy. Not only on macOS but also on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, private browsing now offers heightened protection against trackers and prevents sites from identifying users through their fingerprints. Additionally, private browsing sessions can be locked with a fingerprint, providing peace of mind when stepping away from the computer during sensitive activities like gift shopping.

Profiles are another noteworthy addition, available on both macOS and iPadOS. Users can organize their browsing by topic or context, segregating work-related tabs in a separate Safari window with dedicated cookies, extensions, and favorites. Furthermore, Safari enables the secure sharing of passwords or password groups through iCloud Keychain, utilizing end-to-end encryption. This feature not only streamlines password management but also reinforces the browser’s commitment to user privacy.

The latest iteration of Safari will be part of the upcoming macOS Sonoma, slated for release later this year. The beta version is set to launch next month, accompanied by the arrival of iPadOS 17 and iOS 17. Apple also made a ton of other announcements at the WWDC 2023, including StandBy Mode.

Apple’s latest iOS 17 drops support for iPhone 8 and iPhone X

At the WWDC 2023, Apple took the wraps off its highly anticipated mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, along with the 15-inch MacBook Air powered by M2 chip.

The Cupertino-based technology giant also showcased the latest operating systems that the company will release later this fall and has confirmed the list of devices that will be left behind.

Apple iOS 17

The company has announced the iOS 17 operating system for Apple iPhones and confirmed that the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X won’t be getting this newer version of the software. The update requires the smartphone to be running the A12 Bionic chipset or later.

The older smartphones that are eligible for the iOS 17 include iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, and iPhone SE (second generation). Similarly, those using the iPhone 5th generation or the first generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro won’t be able to install the new iPadOS 17.

With the newer version of the operating system, Apple is bringing features like Live Voicemail transcripts, the StandBy display mode, and better autocorrect, among others.

Some of the features coming to the iOS 17 include Smart Home Lock Screen which can turn iPhone into a “smart-home display” when not in use. It can show various information, including calendar appointments, weather data, notifications, and more. There’s also Contact Posters that allow users to customize how they’re represented on other people’s phones.

It is also bringing Live Voicemail to transcribe voicemails in real-time. For safety, there’s Check-In, a feature that will let users automatically notify family and friends when they have made it home safely. iOS 17 also introduces a new Journal app for sourcing memories using people, places, activities, music, and photos that users can add to daily journal entries.

Carl Pei tweets “fake” soon after Nothing Phone 2 renders emerge

Nothing Phone (2) is expected to launch in July in India and some other markets. Yesterday, prominent leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer collaborated with the publication SmartPrix to unveil the initial renders of the Phone (2) prior to its official launch. However, shortly after, Nothing founder and CEO, Carl Pei, posted a tweet containing a single word, “fake,” which supposedly refuted the authenticity of the leaked renders.

The leaked renders showed that the Phone (2)’s design language would be quite similar to the Phone (1) from last year. Just like the original model, the Phone (2) was seen sporting a corner punch-hole screen, a dual-camera setup, and an LED lighting system on the back. The report mentioned that the new device’s back panel will have some changes in the lighting elements.

The publication said that the renders were produced using live shots of Phone (2)’s testing stage unit, highlighting that they represent the device at a specific development stage. The company may incorporate minor design changes before the official launch. Here’s a look at the leaked renders:

With Nothing already starting to disclose the key specifications of the Phone (2) and the launch date set for July, it is probable that the company will soon begin teasing the device’s design. This will provide insights into any potential differences in appearance compared to the previously leaked renders.

Nothing has already been revealed that the Phone (2) will be built with sustainable materials. It will arrive with a 6.7-inch AMOELD display and an aluminium frame. The device will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset and a 4,700mAh battery. It will come preloaded with Nothing OS UI-based Android. The phone is confirmed to receive three major Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates.

Apple’s Fall Update Brings Exciting Features, Some Older Devices to be Left Behind

As WWDC 2023 concludes, Apple enthusiasts eagerly await the release of the latest operating systems for their devices. However, with every new update, there comes a moment when some older generations of Apple products are left behind. Let’s take a closer look at what the upcoming software updates have in store and which devices won’t make the cut.

Users will also get to use Facetime on AppleTV

For iPhone users, iOS 17 will not be compatible with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or the iPhone X. To install the new operating system, your iPhone will need to have an A12 Bionic chip or later. However, if you own an iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, iPhone SE (second-gen), or any newer model, you’ll have access to exciting features such as Live Voicemail transcripts, StandBy display mode, and improved autocorrect.

iOS 17

The iPad will see significant improvements with the introduction of iPadOS 17. This update will bring customizable lock screens, the Health app, interactive widgets, and more. Unfortunately, those using a fifth-generation iPad or the first-gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro will miss out on this update. The supported tablets for iPadOS 17 include the iPad (6th generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation and later), 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation and later).

Apple Watch users have some good news as all devices running watchOS 9 will continue to be supported. Furthermore, if you own an Apple Watch Series 4 or a newer model, watchOS 10 will introduce exciting enhancements, particularly in widgets. The Cycling and Compass apps will receive upgrades, among other updates.

Mac users will enjoy widgets with the introduction of macOS Sonoma. The new operating system for desktops and laptops will also feature a Game Mode that prioritizes CPU and GPU performance, providing higher framerates for gaming enthusiasts. However, not all Macs will be compatible with macOS Sonoma. Supported devices include the iMac (2019 and later), Mac Pro (2019 and later), iMac Pro (2017), Mac Studio (2022 and later), MacBook Air (2018 and later), Mac mini (2018 and later), and MacBook Pro (2018 and later).

Finally, tvOS 17 brings long-awaited FaceTime functionality to Apple TV. Additionally, users will be able to locate a misplaced remote with the assistance of their iPhone. The update will be available for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.

If you own one of the devices mentioned above, it may be time to consider an upgrade to experience the full range of new features and improvements.
