FeaturePrint is a new Revolutionary Optical AI Solution to Protect against Counterfeit Products

Counterfeit products have detrimental effects on consumers in various ways. They pose significant risks to consumer health and safety as counterfeit goods often fail to meet quality and safety standards. From counterfeit medications with ineffective or harmful ingredients to counterfeit electronics prone to malfunctioning, consumers are exposed to potential dangers. Consumers also suffer financial losses when purchasing counterfeit items, as they are deceived into paying for substandard or fraudulent products. Furthermore, counterfeit goods undermine trust in legitimate brands and businesses, creating a negative impact on the economy. However, in the future, it may be easier for users to spot counterfeit or fake goods, all thanks to a mobile optical AI solution.

FeaturePrint relies on AI to identify distinct features of a product

FeaturePrint is an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) powered optical AI solution developed by Alitheon that claims to be able to detect counterfeits with just a single photo. The implications of unwittingly selling a fake piece of art are severe, potentially irreparably damaging an auction house’s reputation. Shockingly, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimates that the underground art market, including thefts, fakes, and illegal imports, could generate up to a staggering $6 billion annually. FeaturePrint can be a one-stop solution to the same.

FeaturePrint

With FeaturePrint, Alitheon offers a straightforward and effective solution to combat the counterfeit problem. By capturing a single photo using an iPhone, this optical AI solution can analyze and convert the intricate surface details of a physical item into a unique mathematical identity. Alitheon emphasizes that this identification process isn’t based on an image but rather a set of numbers that characterize the distinct features of an object. By preserving only the information that makes an item truly unique, FeaturePrint can effortlessly discern genuine products from counterfeits.

Unlike traditional identification systems that rely on stickers, barcodes, QR codes, or RFID tags, FeaturePrint’s machine vision and optical AI algorithms eliminate the need for these proxies. Alitheon’s approach ensures that the object itself becomes its own identifier, rendering it impossible to obscure, detach, or counterfeit. By removing the reliance on external identification proxies, FeaturePrint tackles the inherent weaknesses and vulnerabilities of conventional systems.

While FeaturePrint cannot definitively determine if a product is counterfeit, it serves as a reliable tool to confirm the authenticity of registered items. Although not available through smartphone app stores, Alitheon provides FeaturePrint as a business-to-business solution, directly assisting customers. Alitheon has been recognized by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), the world’s leading independent standards authority for the global precious metals industry, as one of only five companies to support LBMA’s Gold Bar Integrity (GBI) initiative. As the precious metals markets face increasingly pervasive human rights, environmental and economic threats, the aim of the GBI Initiative is to combat illicit trade and reduce the entrance of fraudulent bars into the global gold supply chain.

Google Pixel’s Revamped Call Screening Feature is Simpler & Faster

Google’s Pixel phones have gained recognition for their effective Call Screen feature, which is one of the many smart selling points for the smartphone lineup. This feature efficiently blocks spam and robocalls. To enhance this experience further, Google is introducing a new tweak to the Call Screen settings menu, consolidating the screening options for incoming calls so that it becomes easier for users to pick what to filter through. While the update definitely simplifies the interface in an Apple-like manner, it may not please advanced users seeking more control over the functionality.

Pixel users are offered three protection level choices – Basic, Medium and Maximum

The recent update to Google’s Phone app introduces a single Protection Level menu, streamlining the various Call Screen options that were previously available. Users now have three protection level choices: Basic, Medium, and Maximum. With Basic protection, users can solely decline known spam calls. The Medium option not only rejects spam calls but also screens suspicious ones. On the other hand, the Maximum protection level enables the screening of all unknown numbers.

Pixel

The new Protection Level menu offers a more straightforward and less intimidating experience for users, particularly those who are new to Call Screen. By consolidating the options into three clear choices, Google has made it easier for users to understand and select the level of call screening that suits their needs. This simplified approach ensures that users can efficiently manage unwanted calls without feeling overwhelmed by intricate settings.

While the update is currently rolling out to select users, feedback has been limited thus far, with only one report on Reddit. Dallas Thomas, Android Police News Editor, confirmed the presence of the new Call Screen Protection Level menu in the Phone app v106.0.534575879. As the rollout continues, it remains to be seen how users respond to the revised settings menu and whether further refinements or adjustments will be made based on user feedback.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE rumored to feature Exynos 2200, superior camera, no Snapdragon version

Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch the Galaxy S23 FE smartphone later this year, according to a recent tweet by the source @Tech_Reve. The device is said to be equipped with Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 processor, with no Qualcomm Snapdragon version expected.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE likely to miss Snapdragon version

The choice to utilize the Exynos 2200 processor instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor is believed to be a strategic move by Samsung to cut costs and maintain profitability. However, this decision may have an impact on the sales of the Galaxy S23 FE, considering the less successful performance of the Galaxy S22 series.

Other leaked specifications of the Galaxy S23 FE, shared by @Tech_Reve, reveal that the device will feature either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, operating at a speedy 6.4 Gbps. Storage options are expected to include UFS 3.1 with capacities of 128GB or 256GB.

In terms of the camera setup, the front camera is rumored to sport a 12-megapixel sensor with a pixel size of 1.12um. The main camera is said to have a whopping 50-megapixel sensor with a pixel size of 1.0um (GN3). The device is also expected to include a 3x telephoto lens with an 8-megapixel sensor and a pixel size of 1.0um (Hi-347), as well as an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 12-megapixel sensor and a pixel size of 1.12um (IMX258).

Recent reports have also shed light on the software development for the European version of the Galaxy S23 FE. Firmware testing has begun for the device, specifically for model number SM-S711B. However, no firmware has been seen yet for the US and South Korean variants.

This testing phase suggests that the device’s launch is still some time away, possibly not until early 2024. Samsung is rumored to launch highly anticipated flagship devices like Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 by the end of July.

Mysterious Samsung phone Shows up on GeekBench running the now-canceled Exynos 2300 SoC

It has been a while since Samsung released a flagship device powered by their Exynos chipset. Last year, the Galaxy S22 units were launched in a few markets with the Exynos 2200 SoC, but these variants left users disappointed as they offered underwhelming performance compared to their Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 counterparts. Taking note of these shortcomings, Samsung sided with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for all S23 units this year, abandoning the Exynos 2300 chip. Surprisingly, a mysterious smartphone featuring the supposedly doomed chipset has appeared on Geekbench.

Exynos 2300 rises from the dead

An unknown Samsung smartphone with model number SM-S919O was spotted on the Geekbench website. The device doesn’t match the description of any Samsung phone available in the market, suggesting it’s a prototype that someone’s toying with. The listing suggests the device runs the Exynos 2300 chip with a total of nine cores in three clusters. Most processors in the market get an octa-core architecture. Its prime core is clocked at 2.6 GHz, four performance cores at 2.59 GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.82 GHz.

Exynos 2300 Geekbench

However, it appears that the Samsung SM-S9190, which features this chipset, will not be produced as the chipset itself has reportedly been canceled. On the other hand, reports indicate that Samsung is actively developing the new Exynos 2400 chip, which is expected to feature a 10-core architecture. This upcoming SoC is likely to power certain models of the Samsung Galaxy S24, scheduled for release next year.

There are rumors suggesting that Samsung is working on the Galaxy S23 FE, and it may debut with the older Exynos 2200 chipset. However, there is a possibility that instead of the controversial Exynos 2200, the Korean company might consider equipping its fan edition model with the Exynos 2300. Nevertheless, this is purely an assumption at this point.

Fire-Boltt surpasses Samsung to secure 2nd place in global smartwatch market

Indian smartwatch brand Fire-Boltt has overtaken Samsung to claim the second spot in the global smartwatch market. Despite Samsung’s increased popularity in North America, its shipments outside the region faced a significant decline, resulting in Fire-Boltt’s narrow victory.

Fire-Boltt’s Affordable Smartwatches Gain Popularity in India

According to Counterpoint Research, Fire-Boltt achieved a 9% shipment share in Q1 2023, while Samsung also held a 9% global shipment share. This minor difference allowed Fire-Boltt to surpass the Korean tech giant in the global rankings.

Global-Top-3-Smartwatch-Brands’-Shipment-Share-Q1-2023-vs-Q1-2022

Meanwhile, Apple maintained its leadership in the smartwatch segment, although its global shipment share dropped from 32% in Q1 2022 to 26% in Q1 2023.

Although Huawei experienced a decline in shipments in China, it managed to limit its global shipment share loss to 9% due to increased shipments in regions like LATAM, MEA, and India. However, Huawei was unable to retain its position on the global smartwatch podium.

The success of Fire-Boltt can be attributed to the growing smartwatch market in India. Smartwatch shipments in India saw remarkable growth, increasing from 12% in Q1 2022 to 27% in Q1 2023. Fire-Boltt’s dominance in the Indian market played a significant role in its victory over Samsung.

Smartwatch-Shipment-Share-by-Region-Q1-2023-vs-Q1-2022

Analysts attribute the growth in India’s smartwatch market to factors such as affordability, higher customer demand, and the availability of smartwatches across a wider price range compared to other markets. Fire-Boltt’s emphasis on more affordable options resonated well with Indian consumers, driving the brand’s success.

It is important to note that the analysis includes both advanced high-level operating system (HLOS) smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Apple Watch, as well as basic smartwatches with lighter operating systems that do not support third-party apps. The affordability and increasing functionality of these basic smartwatches have made them popular, particularly in markets like India, where they are emerging as viable alternatives to smart bands.

iPhone 15 Pro Max to feature same camera and display tech from iPhone 14 Pro Max, leak suggests

A recent leak by @Tech_Reve on Twitter has shed light on the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max, revealing some interesting details about its specifications. Contrary to previous rumors, the latest information indicates that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature the same main camera and display technology as its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

iPhone 15 Pro Max to Stick with IMX803, 48MP Quad-Bayer Sensor

The leak suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will maintain the IMX803 camera sensor, a 48MP 1/1.28″ Quad-Bayer camera, which is already present in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. This news might come as a disappointment to those who were expecting a new main camera based on the Sony IMX903, 1″ sensor.

iPhone 15 render

Furthermore, it appears that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will continue to utilize the M12 OLED panel technology found in the current generation. While this display technology has proven to be excellent based on testing, users should not anticipate significant improvements in terms of brightness levels or other enhancements.

Slight Design Changes: iPhone 15 Pro Max to be Shorter and Narrower than iPhone 14 Pro Max

Although the display size will likely differ slightly, with reports suggesting a slightly shorter height of 159.8 mm compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 160.7 mm and a slightly narrower width of 76.7 mm instead of 77.6 mm, the specifics regarding the exact display dimensions have yet to be confirmed.

On the positive side, the leak suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will introduce some notable additions. One of the most talked-about features is the periscope telephoto camera, expected to be exclusive to the Pro Max variant. This camera is anticipated to offer 6x optical magnification, enhancing the device’s zoom capabilities.

Additionally, there are rumors that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will include a USB Type-C port, a departure from Apple’s traditional Lightning port. This change would allow for improved connectivity options.

In terms of performance, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to feature the Apple A17 Bionic chip, manufactured using a 3nm process. This upgraded processor is anticipated to offer enhanced speed and efficiency. The leak also suggests that the device will come equipped with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, further boosting its overall performance.

‘Daam’ malware infects Android, exposing call records, browsing history; Govt issues advisory

In a recent advisory, India’s national cybersecurity organization, CERT-IN, has warned about a dangerous Android malware called “Daam” that poses a significant threat to user data security. This malware has the ability to bypass antivirus software, steal sensitive information, and even install ransomware on targeted devices.

The Threat of Daam Malware: Understanding the Risks and Implications

Once infiltrated, the Daam malware can access and retrieve a wide range of confidential data, including browsing history, call logs, contact information, camera contents, SMS messages, and files. It operates by circumventing security measures, making it challenging to detect and remove. The stolen data is then transmitted to the attacker’s server, and the device’s contents are encrypted using AES encryption, leaving behind “.enc” files and a ransom note named “readme_now.txt.”

Android malware

For safeguarding Android devices against the Daam malware and similar risks, CERT-IN has offered crucial best practices and recommendations:

Limit Download Sources: Minimize the risk of downloading potentially harmful apps by relying on official app stores, such as the manufacturer’s or operating system’s app store.

Review App Details: Before downloading an app, even from trusted sources like the Google Play Store, thoroughly review its details, including user reviews, number of downloads, comments, and additional information.

Verify App Permissions: Pay close attention to the permissions requested by apps and grant only those that are necessary and relevant to the app’s intended functionality. Avoid granting unnecessary permissions that may compromise privacy.

Avoid Side-loaded Apps: Refrain from installing apps from untrusted or unofficial sources. Stick to reputable and trusted sources for app installations.

Keep Your Device Updated: Regularly install updates and patches provided by your device’s vendor, as they often include critical security enhancements.

Exercise Caution Online: Avoid browsing untrusted websites or clicking on suspicious links. Be especially cautious with links received through unsolicited emails or SMS messages, as they may lead to malware downloads or malicious websites.

Use Antivirus Software: Install and regularly update reliable antivirus and antispyware software on your device to detect and prevent malware infections.

Verify SMS Sender Information: Be vigilant for suspicious numbers that do not resemble genuine mobile phone numbers. Legitimate SMS messages from banks often include sender IDs rather than phone numbers.

Research Before Clicking Links: Conduct thorough research before clicking on any links, particularly in messages. Utilize websites that allow phone number searches to verify the legitimacy of numbers or identify potential scams.

Verify URLs: Only click on URLs that clearly indicate the website domain. If unsure, use search engines to directly search for the organization’s official website to ensure legitimacy.

Utilize Safe Browsing Tools: Consider using safe browsing tools and filtering services offered by antivirus, firewall, and content-based filtering software.

Exercise Caution with Shortened URLs: Approach shortened URLs, such as those using bit.ly or tinyurl, with caution. Hover over the link to view the full website domain or utilize a URL checker to verify the destination.

Check Encryption Certificates: Ensure the presence of valid encryption certificates by looking for the green lock symbol in the browser’s address bar. Verify proper security measures before sharing any sensitive information online.

Report Suspicious Activity: Promptly report any unusual account activity to the respective bank or service provider, providing relevant details for appropriate action to be taken.

By adhering to these guidelines and best practices, users can significantly reduce their vulnerability to the Daam malware and related threats. It is essential to remain vigilant and prioritize the protection of devices to safeguard personal data and maintain online security.

The Ninth Generation Console Wars Heat Up, But Sony’s New Handheld Could Be a Dud

The ninth generation console wars are heating up. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are all competing to sell more products and reach more gamers. Sony, which is currently leading the race with the PlayStation 5, is not resting on its laurels. The company, which is envious of the success of the Nintendo Switch, recently announced a new portable handheld called Project Q at the PlayStation Showcase. The product, which has a lot of potential, has already become a favorite among gamers even before it hits the market. However, recent reports suggest that the device’s battery life may be a major disappointment. Here are the details…

PlayStation’s Project Q Battery Life Could Be a Disappointment

Sony has been working on a handheld device for some time, and the mere rumor of a device named Project Q has been enough to excite users. However, new information has emerged that may disappoint PlayStation fans who have been eagerly awaiting the return of the PSP. According to recent reports, Project Q will only have a battery life of 3-4 hours. This is significantly shorter than the battery life of other handheld devices, such as the Nintendo Switch, which can last up to 9 hours on a single charge.

A short battery life could be a major hindrance for Project Q. The device is designed to be used for gaming on the go, but a 3-4 hour battery life would mean that players would need to bring a charger with them wherever they go. This could be inconvenient and could also limit the amount of time that players can spend gaming.

In addition, a short battery life could also make Project Q less appealing to potential buyers. With so many other options on the market, consumers may be hesitant to purchase a device that has such a short battery life. Of course, it is important to note that this is just a rumor at this point. Sony has not yet confirmed the battery life of Project Q. However, if the rumor is true, it could be a major setback for the device.
