Huawei P60 Series Might Be Showcased at MWC Barcelona 2023

Huawei is gearing up to launch the Huawei P60 lineup of smartphones in the market. The brand will reportedly launch the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2+ TWS earphones alongside the P60 lineup. The devices will undergo many changes and will feature upgraded hardware specifications and features. Now, there has been a rumour on the internet which claims that Huawei might display these upcoming smartphones at the MWC Barcelona 2023 event.

Huawei P60 series

On the Chinese microblogging site Weibo, a few posts from various tipsters had been made referencing the upcoming Huawei P60 series. According to a tipster on Weibo, Huawei has completed the design for the upcoming P60 series. The manufacturer has updated its camera module, and the back panel’s leather back may be visible. However, according to another source, Huawei may present the product at the MWC 2023 event. This would catch us off, guard. The informant is emphatic that it might be the Chinese tech manufacturer’s earliest launch attempt, though.

Huawei P60 series

Huawei is known for producing high-quality cameras, and the P60 series should be no exception. According to rumours, the smartphones would have three cameras: a primary camera, a wide-angle lens, and a telephoto lens. This arrangement is ideal for folks who enjoy taking photos and films because it should offer consumers exceptional photo and video quality. It has been anticipated that it will be among the most powerful camera devices to enter the market.

Anyhow, everything that has been said so far is all speculation and a rumour. The product’s official launch has not been announced as of yet. We recommend that you take the information with a grain of salt. The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 event will take place from February 27th to March 2nd, 2023. Watching to see if Huawei exhibits the device at the event will be interesting. What do you think about this? Please let us know by leaving a comment below in your own words. Samsung Galaxy A54 Visits TENAA With Key Specifications

After refreshing its flagship S series, Samsung is now preparing to bring new phones in the mid-range A lineup. These devices could be the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34. Both phones have been making rounds on various certification sites recently and are rumored to arrive next month. While we wait, the A54 has now bagged China’s TENAA certification. Some of its specifications have also been revealed in the process. Here are the details.

Galaxy A54 has appeared on the TENAA website with model number SM-A5400. The listing confirms the mid-ranger will arrive with a 4905mAh battery (marketed as 5,000mAh). We can expect the device to support just 25W charging as Samsung is not exactly known for fast charging. Further, the authority corroborates that the device will have a triple camera unit on the back and a single shooter on the front.

Galaxy A54 TENAA

It could support multiple 5G bands including b41, b78, b79, b78, and b28. This is all the information we could get from the TENAA listing of the device. The certification hints the Galaxy A54’s launch might be near. An official confirmation is still awaited.

Previous reports have revealed the device will arrive with an Exynos 1380 SoC under the hood. The unannounced processor could be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB storage. The device may arrive with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate.

For photography, it may have a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and probably an 8MP tertiary sensor on the rear. The handset could look quite similar to the recently launched Galaxy S23 and S23+ with three camera rings on the back. It is rumored to be offered in 4 different colors— Awesome White, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Lime, and Awesome Violet.

Huawei is Working on a Dynamic Island Feature Similar to Apple

The iPhone 14 series was introduced last September. Apple, which usually releases phones with a similar design every year, made a significant change and eliminated the notch in its Pro models. It was replaced by the ‘Dynamic Island‘, which houses the front camera and Face ID sensors. This change, made by the company, was well received by users, and other manufacturers started to work on similar devices. Huawei was the first to take the step for the ‘Dynamic Island’. Here are the details…

Huawei to launch its own Dynamic Island feature

Similar to the iPhone 14 lineup, the Huawei Nova 11 series will adopt a new pill shape cutout screen and it is the first time to equip in a Huawei smartphone. The Chinese tech giant has been employing various punch-hole techniques for a long time.

Huawei

The most popular of these is the single hole or pill-shaped camera placement in the top left corner of the screen. However, for the first time, Huawei will position its cameras in the middle, similar to Apple’s ‘Dynamic Island‘.

Huawei Nova 11 series will bring out the XMAGE camera system and it’s likely that the company will get you a better photography user experience. The Dynamic Island feature in question is expected to offer similar functionality to Apple.

Unfortunately, for now, we do not have any information other than the design of the phone. It is possible to say that it will come with HarmonyOS just like other current Huawei models. However, we will continue to inform you when there is a development on the subject.

The earphones are projected to be even smaller and lighter, making them easier to transport. Furthermore, the earbuds are said to have a better fit, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit for long listening sessions.

Apple Watch Could Get a Camera: New Patents Reveal Possibilities

As we all know, technology is advancing very quickly, and therefore companies have to think years ahead when planning. In this way, we can obtain information about products such as the iPhone 16, which are far in the future. Especially patents can give us a glimpse into what a company is thinking about, even if they don’t guarantee that a product is in development. Finally, some of Apple’s plans for smartwatches have emerged. Accordingly, the company has seriously considered incorporating a camera into the Apple Watch. Here are the details..

Apple sure has a lot of patents about adding a camera to the Apple Watch

Patent applications can provide a lot of information about a company’s future. It is possible to understand that a new product will be released or what features will be added to an existing product. Lastly, Apple was granted a patent (US-11571048-B1) for an Apple Watch strap release mechanism that could potentially be used with a built-in camera. First of all, we should note that the fact that the US technology giant made such a patent application does not mean that it will produce an Apple Watch with a camera. It simply shows us that the company is considering some ideas.

The patent was first spotted by Patently Apple and it details a strap with two segments and a “nest” portion that could be used to quickly and ergonomically pop the watch out of the strap. The idea behind this mechanism is to open up new ways to use the Apple Watch, including taking pictures with a built-in camera. The patent illustrates a person holding the strapless watch to take a picture, and a cross-section of an Apple Watch with a bottom-facing built-in camera and its field of view. To take a picture, the user would simply pop out the watch, hold up the camera portion, and snap a picture.

This is not the first time Apple has filed camera-related patents for the Apple Watch. The company was granted another patent last year simply titled “Watch having a camera.” This patent described a camera placed within the digital crown and had diagrams that were similar to those in the recent patent. In 2019, Apple also won a patent for a rotatable camera built into the end of a strap. It’s worth mentioning that there’s already a third-party Apple Watch accessory called the Wristcam that functions similarly.

A camera on an Apple Watch could have a lot of potential uses. One of the key benefits of the Apple Watch is that it enables iPhone users to spend less time on their phones, and even leave it behind when running errands, going for a walk, or exercising. However, what happens when someone wants to take a picture of something they see while out and about? Without a phone, they wouldn’t have any evidence. A camera on the Apple Watch could solve this problem. However, it is too early to talk about all this.

Nintendo Switch Overtakes Sony’s PS4 to Become the Third Best-Selling Console of All Time

The eighth-generation console wars have come to an end with the introduction of the PS5 and the Xbox Series S/X. Sony, with the PS4, was the company that managed to sell the most products. Although the Xbox side did not meet expectations, the real surprise came from Nintendo. The Switch, introduced in 2017, exceeded everyone’s expectations and has become the popular handheld console that has outsold the PS4. Here are the details…

The Nintendo Switch has outsold the PS4, but Nintendo sees tougher times ahead

According to the latest reports, the Nintendo Switch has sold over 122.5 million units as of the end of 2022, surpassing both the legendary Game Boy and Sony’s PlayStation 4 to become the third best-selling gaming console of all time. However, looking at the last nine months of 2022, we see that sales have dropped to 14.91 million from 18.95 million during the same period the previous year. Additionally, total revenue has declined by 5.6%.

Nintendo Switch

There are two basic reasons for this. Firstly, game sales fell by 4% despite the release of the new Pokemon Scarlet/Violet titles (which totaled an impressive 20.61 million units), unable to offset the decline. The second reason is the inability to supply enough products in the market due to the global chip crisis. Although the number of products has increased with the disappearance of the pandemic from our lives, this time demand has decreased.

Although the company has lowered its expectations for next year, exclusive games could change that. Titles like Zelda, which has a massive fanbase, can drive much higher console sales on its own. Another highlight in the company’s report is the preference of users. While sales of the Nintendo Switch with an OLED screen increased, there was a decrease in sales of the standard and lite models. This indicates that users want better and more powerful hardware.

Nintendo Switch OLED

It’s worth remembering that the Nintendo Switch just surpassing the PlayStation 4 in sales does not mean it is taking the lead in the eighth-generation console wars. Sony and Microsoft have prioritized the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, while Nintendo has not yet shown a new console that it is working on and continues to sell the device, which was released in 2017, with minor improvements. For this reason, it is possible to say that the PS4, which has sold approximately 120 million units, is still the winner!

Nintendo said last year that the transition to its next console is “a major focus for us,” and it could start becoming more urgent soon. It’ll be interesting to see if the Switch can hang around long enough to become the best selling console of all time, but Nintendo will have to sell around 33 million more units to surpass the PlayStation 2.

Pixel 7 Pro Users Reports Their Volume Buttons are Falling Off

The Google Pixel 7 Pro is an extremely popular smartphone that has gotten good marks for its features, performance, and camera quality. However, there have been multiple reports of a problem that has led owners of this device to be frustrated. The volume button on the Google Pixel 7 Pro appears to be prone to slipping off, creating inconvenience and potentially damaging the device. There has been no official response from the brand on this issue yet. It’s really troubling to see this kind of issue happening in a flagship smartphone of a brand.

Some users stated that the button fell off after only a few weeks of use, while others said that it fell off after several months. On several occasions, the button has come off while the phone was in the user’s pocket, causing damage to the device or making retrieval difficult. The issue was initially brought to light by Android Central’s Nick Sutrich, who posted about it with his Pixel 7 Pro. Sutrich discovered the tragic discovery after removing his phone from his pocket and noticing the volume rocker on his Pixel 7 Pro had disengaged.

Furthermore, 9to5Google discovered that Google personnel warned some consumers that an issue like this is not covered by the device’s warranty. Sutrich did, however, receive word from Google that the “staff is aware of the situation” and would be in touch with him soon. As Google receives more complaints, this may help to spark some solutions. The volume button issue appears to be a design defect that affects a large number of Google Pixel 7 Pro users. While some customers were able to resolve the issue by simply reattaching the button, others were forced to send their devices in for repair.

Eventually, the volume button on the Google Pixel 7 Pro sliding off is a severe issue that has created inconvenience and dissatisfaction among its customers. While the problem may not affect everyone who owns the device, users should be informed of the potential issue so that they can take precautions to secure their devices. Users are recommended to use precautions when handling their phones and to keep a close eye on the volume button until Google takes action to address the issue. That concludes our post concerning the latest Google Pixel 7 Pro issue. Thank you for sticking with me until the end.

Meizu 20 Pro Leaked Live Image Reveals Design

Meizu is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer that has been in the business for quite some time but isn’t as popular as other firms (Xiaomi, OPPO, just to name a few) from the country. Also, it has been a long time since we saw a Meizu flagship— the last one was released way back in 2019. That’s about to change as the company is now gearing up to bring the Meizu 20 smartphone. There may also be a Pro model, at least that’s what a new leaked image suggests.

A tipster has shared a hands-on image of the alleged Meizu 20 Pro on Weibo. The image shows the smartphone with a curved back and an interesting camera module. There are at least three camera sensors and one mysterious black bar. We can’t help but notice that the camera arrangement looks like a disapproval emoticon (:|).

Meizu 20 Pro live image

The text on the camera island suggests the Meizu 20 Pro uses a 1-inch 50MP Sony sensor. This is likely the Sony IMX989 sensor found on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Xiaomi 12 Pro. We are not sure what’s the purpose of the black bar on the module. It could feature some sort of sensor or maybe it’s there due to aesthetic reasons.

Details about the Meizu 20 series smartphones as pretty scarce at the moment. Previously, patent images of the vanilla model surfaced online, revealing a Galaxy S23-like design with an additional ring on the back. In addition, a Geekbench listing revealed the Meizu 20 will be equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC under the hood. The Pro model could also feature the same chipset.

Smartphone Shipments in India Decline 10 Percent YoY in 2022, Q422 Shipments Also Fall: IDC

Smartphone shipments in India declined 10 percent year-on-year in 2022. As per International Data Corporation’s (IDC) quarterly and annual report, 144.3 million smartphone units were shipped last year. This is also the lowest figure since 2019. The shipments in the fourth quarter of last year i.e. the period between October to December also decline 27 percent year-on-year with 30 million units sold. Despite improvements in the supply chain, falling demand due to rising global inflation remained a challenge for the smartphone markets.

As per the IDC data, Xiaomi led the smartphone market in 2022 with 30.3 million shipments and a 21 percent market share. South Korean brand Samsung also maintained the second rank with 26.1 million shipments and an 18.1 percent share, thanks to the Galaxy A-series in the offline channel and the Galaxy M and F-series in the online markets. Vivo bagged the third spot with 22.9 million units sold and a 15.9 percent share of the market attributed to the T-series and iQOO brand in the online segment.  Realme and OPPO were fourth and fifth in the list with 14.5 and 11.9 percent market shares respectively. All five OEMs recorded a negative year-on-year change.

The top three brands also maintained their position in terms of shipments and market share in the fourth quarter of 2022. OPPO and Realme swapper positions with the latter slipping due to a 65 percent decline in smartphone shipments in the corresponding quarter a year ago. OPPO’s A-series followed by F and Reno lineup lead the sales whereas Realme’s decline in Q4 2022 is cited to high inventory in the previous quarter.

The IDC report also adds that the online market had a 53 percent share of smartphone shipments whereas the offline segment dipped 15 percent year-on-year. The average selling price of the 50 million shipped 5G smartphones was $395 in 2022 which is down from $431 in 2021. The share of MediaTek and Qualcomm-powered phones dropped while the share of entry-level phones with UNISOC SoC doubled to 14 percent. The sub-$300 (~Rs 25,000) smartphone segment declined by 15 percent whereas the $300-$500 (~Rs 25,000 – 41,000) and above $500 (~Rs 40,000) recorded a 20 percent and 55 percent growth respectively. Cupertino-based tech giant Apple maintained its lead in the premium segment with a 60 percent share followed by Samsung with a 21 percent market. iPhone 13 was the third most shipped device in 2022.

Japan Proposes Reforms to Address Google and Apple’s Mobile OS Monopoly

Japan’s Fair Trade Commission recently released a Market Study Report on Mobile OS and Mobile App Distribution, revealing that Google and Apple hold a significant monopoly in the markets for smartphones, mobile operating systems, app stores, and smartwatches, leaving little room for competitors. To address this issue, the regulator has proposed four sets of actions aimed at promoting a healthy and fair competitive environment in the mobile ecosystem.

Google Pixel 4

The first set of actions focuses on preventing self-preferencing, while also ensuring equal access for third-party developers. The regulator suggests measures such as providing equal access to OS functions and advance warning of updates for all developers, not just those working for Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS. Additionally, the report calls for access to third-party payment services for app and in-app purchases.

The second set of reforms aims at improving the portability of user data between operating systems and promoting a healthy competitive environment in the mobile OS and app markets. The report also calls for allowing third-party app stores if they meet certain security and privacy standards, which could be welcome news for companies that have been critical of the rigorous app review process maintained by Apple.

The third recommendation focuses on fairness in making and enforcing rules, calling for greater transparency and advanced notice from Apple and Google when changing rules for developers. The final recommendation promotes competition related to the formation of new ecosystems.

Japan is not alone in its efforts to regulate app stores. Several other major economies, including South Korea, Australia, India, and the European Union, have taken similar steps or are signaling their intention to do so. With change on the horizon, Google has already begun to comply with calls for third-party payment access, while Apple remains more hesitant to open its ecosystem. While the report offers no specific timeline for action, modernizing markets is a government priority in Japan, so change is likely to come.

Shenlan S7 Electric SUV Caught On Camera in Recent Sighting

Electric Vehicles are becoming the talk of the town these days. Whilst companies and governments are offering attractive incentives so that more people make the switch to electric vehicles, R&D divisions are using this chance to innovate on upcoming cars. In a recent sighting, the upcoming Shenlan S7 electric SUV has been caught on camera, giving us a sneak peek at the latest addition to the brand’s lineup.

Shenlan S7

With its light yellow exterior and minimal camouflage, the S7 boasts an aerodynamic design, featuring sporty details like black wheel arches and window frames, pop-out door handles, and aero-wheels. It should be noted, however, that there appears to be a lack of sensors for driving-assist systems.

Shenlan, a joint venture between Changan, battery maker CATL, and technology giant Huawei, was launched just last year. Positioned above the base Changan brand and below Avatr, the brand currently offers only one vehicle, the Shenlan SL03 sedan. The S7 will be the brand’s second offering, with an SUV in the works as well.

As a mid-sized SUV, the rear-wheel drive S7 will come in two versions: an EV and an EREV. The EV will offer a choice of 218 or 258 horsepower, while the EREV will feature a 238 horsepower electric motor and a 95 horsepower 1.5-liter gasoline engine that acts solely as a generator for the battery pack. The car’s dimensions are 4750mm x 1930mm x 1625mm with a 2900mm wheelbase.

A white prototype of the S7 was spotted parked alongside the road, without any camouflage. Sadly, there is only one image of it. The S7 will make its public debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show in April, with an official launch on the Chinese market shortly after. The expected starting price for the S7 is around 160,000 RMB ($23,600).

Amazon Looking to Acquire Indian Streaming Service MX Player

In the midst of tech acquisitions and mergers happening worldwide, Amazon is reportedly in discussions with Times Internet to acquire MX Player, one of India’s most widely-used on-demand video streaming services. As the e-commerce giant continues to expand its entertainment offerings, the acquisition of MX Player would be a significant step towards increasing its presence in the Indian market.

MX Player

However, it’s worth noting that the talks are ongoing and may not result in a deal. Additionally, there are reportedly at least two other interested parties, including Zee-Sony.

MX Player has seen significant growth in recent years, with its popularity driven by a wide range of video formats, reliability on low-cost Android smartphones, and original content offerings. The video app boasts over 300 million users globally and is particularly popular in India. The reason for MX Player’s hype is a wide video catalog that allows its users access to live cable TV channels at no charge whatsoever. Instead, the service makes most of its revenue through advertisements.

The acquisition is an interesting development for MX Player, which was acquired by Times Internet for $140 million in 2018. The video streaming service has since merged with ShareChat’s Moj in a deal worth $900 million, solidifying its position as one of the leading players in the Indian market.

As Amazon seeks to compete with Google‘s dominant video service, YouTube, in India, the acquisition of MX Player would provide a significant boost to their efforts. Despite YouTube‘s commanding presence with over 500 million monthly active users, Amazon is making strides with its Prime Video subscription and ad-supported video streaming services, which have fewer than 40 million monthly active users in the country.

MX Player is valued at $500 million and claims to have over 150 million active users in India, making it a valuable acquisition for Amazon as it continues to make inroads into the Indian video market.

Xiaomi Gearing Up to Mass Produce Its Electric Car in 2024

Xiaomi’s recent investor day was a buzz with exciting news about their cars! Lei Jun, the CEO, shared that he dedicates half of his time and energy to the automotive division, and a quarter to the company’s mobile phones, IoT, and premium products.

Xiaomi Electric Car

The R&D team behind the Xiaomi cars has grown to over 2,300 members and is working tirelessly to make its official mass production debut in Q1 2024. Their progress has exceeded expectations, with the soft-film car rolling off the production line last September and winter testing starting at the end of December.

Lei Jun emphasized that autonomous driving is a crucial aspect of Xiaomi’s foray into the automotive industry. Over 140 vehicles are slated to undergo testing across the country in the first phase of their autonomous driving initiative. The goal is to establish itself as a leader in the industry by 2024.

In terms of profitability, Lei Jun stated that Xiaomi prioritizes software profits, similar to their approach with their mobile phones. The future of cars presents exciting opportunities for integrating various services, beyond just sales and after-sales service.

Previously, a Weibo blogger (@不是郑小康) posted pictures that revealed that the Chinese tech giant was conducting a test of the yet-to-be-announced EV model. Lei Jun, the founder himself, was present during this test as per the blogger who shared the pictures on the Chinese microblogging website. In other words, the brand was clearly testing out the Xiaomi Car under extreme weather conditions of cold and likely making other key calibrations as well.

Xiaomi has established its own automobile facility in Beijing’s Yizhuang, which houses the sales and R&D headquarters. They plan to construct a fully-functional vehicle factory with a yearly capacity of 300,000 vehicles, with the first car rolling off the production line in 2024.
