Honda Showcases Electric Outboard Motor for Boats Powered by Motorbike Batteries

Honda may be gradually shifting to sustainable options for its popular outboard motor used in boats. The company has highlighted this shift with the showcase of an electric outboard motor using electric bike batteries. The new Honda electric outboard motor was showcased during the Dusseldorf Motor Show.

Honda electric outboard motor

The prototype shown in the motor show is a remarkable leap for Honda. The company has straddled the combustible outboard industry with an array of powerful outboard engines. The prototype is a transom-mount electric outboard but the key specs were omitted. The size of the outboard motor indicates that it is meant for small and lightweight electric boats. It is speculated that the electric outboard motor may not exceed 1.5 horsepower. However, the compactness of the Honda prototype may belie its power. These electric motors provide equivalent performance to their combustion counterparts with up to twice the power rating.

The new Honda prototype electric outboard motor was designed to work with Honda’s Mobile Power Pack e batteries. The portable battery pack is being tinkered into a fully swappable system. Gogoro is the leading company in swappable battery technology. The Mobile Power Pack e technology is already being seen in Honda’s electric scooters. There are also a few Honda concept offerings like micro-EVs that feature the Power Pack e battery technology.

The electric boar market is undergoing a quiet revolution with several brands entering the market. The most recent entrant is the Avator 7.5e which is the forerunner of more powerful models to come from Avator. There are no indications yet when the new Honda electric outboard motor will go into production.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Apparently Offers Better Cooling with Larger Heat Dissipation Area

Samsung announced its premium Galaxy S23 series yesterday at its first in-person event since 2020. The lineup includes the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. While the Ultra model comes essentially with the same design as its predecessor, the other two phones get a new look. The three phones bring several changes in the hardware. One, for instance, is an improved cooling system with a larger heat dissipation area.

Galaxy S23 Ultra

An animation shared by Ice Universe shows the increase in Galaxy S23 series’ vapor chambers compared to S22 Series. This year’s smartphones get a significantly larger heat dissipation area, which should result in better cooling. Fortunately, the standard Galaxy S23 also uses vapor chambers instead of the graphite pads found on the Galaxy S22.

You can see the change in chamber sizes in the tweet below:

The Galaxy S23 series uses the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and we hope there won’t be any heating issues like last year. The latest LPDDRX5 RAM and UFS 4.0 found on the new devices will help boost the performance.

The Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus arrive with a new design but their specifications remain somewhat similar to the last generation. However, the Ultra model brings some new and interesting hardware changes. It brings a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP2 sensor that will likely take the phone’s camera capabilities to a new level.

Galaxy S23 Ultra has a large 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a QHD+ (3,088 x 1,440) resolution and 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. The display is said to go as bright as 2,000 nits and comes with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. It packs a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired and 10W wireless charging.

OnePlus 11’s India Price Leaks Once Again

The latest OnePlus 11 is already official in China and is scheduled to make its global debut on February 7 alongside the OnePlus 11R and several other products. While we wait for the smartphone’s formal debut, a tipster has revealed its price for the Indian market. Here are the details.

Noted tipster Abhishek Yadav has claimed that OnePlus 11 will arrive in the Indian market with only two storage options. These are 8GB + 256GB storage and 16GB RAM + 256GB storage versions. Unlike China, there will be no 512GB storage option in India. Yadav says the higher-end 16GB variant of the smartphone would be priced at Rs 61,999.

OnePlus-11-featured

The Indian pricing of its base model is yet to be known. To give you an idea, the 8GB + 256GB OnePlus 11 is available in China for 3,999 Yuan (roughly Rs 48,900). Alongside, the OnePlus 11, the company will also be introducing the OnePlus 11R, which is rumored to have a starting price between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000.

We know that OnePlus 11 will arrive with a 6.7-inch QHD+ E4 OLED LTPO 3.0 display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a resolution of 3216 x 1440 pixels. Being the brand’s trump card for 2023, the smartphone will pack the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 under the hood. The processor will be paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

The handset will flaunt triple camera unit on the back, headlined by an OIS-enabled 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor. The main sensor is accompanied by a 48MP Sony IMX581 ultra-wide-angle lens and a 32MP Sony IMX709 2x telephoto camera. The front houses a 16MP sensor for selfies. The handset packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging in Asia and 80W in the US.

Five New Features of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

The Galaxy S23 series was unveiled at the Unpacked event on February 1st, and it has received widespread attention from tech enthusiasts. The standout model in the series is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which boasts impressive features that make it the flagship of Android phones. We have listed these innovations for you in our article. Here are five new features of the Galaxy S23 Ultra…

1-Overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, like the rest of the series, uses Qualcomm’s latest 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It has a 34% increase in CPU performance, a 41% boost in GPU performance, and a 49% improvement in NPU performance compared to its predecessor. However, Samsung and Qualcomm have teamed up to give the S23 Ultra a slight advantage by using an overclocked variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This collaboration aims to make the S23 Ultra stand out as a flagship among its Android competitors, particularly in terms of benchmark scores.

2- First phone to use Gorilla Glass Victus 2

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is protected by the latest Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which covers both the front and back of the device. This cutting-edge technology is designed to withstand tough conditions and protect the phone from accidental drops. According to Corning, the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 can withstand drops up to one meter on surfaces as hard as concrete and up to two meters on surfaces replicating asphalt. This means that even those who choose not to use a case or screen protector can feel confident in the durability of their device. Whether you’re prone to dropping your phone or simply want peace of mind, the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection of the Galaxy S23 Ultra offers an extra layer of security.

Gorilla Glass Victus 2

3- 200 Megapixel main camera – ISOCELL HP2

Another highlight of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is its 200-megapixel camera. This feature, a first for Samsung and a new addition to the smartphone industry, brings a new dimension to mobile photography. With the ISOCELL HP2 sensor, it’s possible to take more detailed and clear photos. Samsung promises significantly better low-light performance and improved dynamic range. You don’t have to shoot photos in high resolution, as you can choose from three resolutions: 12MP, 50MP, and 200MP.

ISOCELL HP2

4- UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X RAM

The Galaxy S23 series is faster and more responsive than ever, thanks to the latest UFS 4.0 storage standard and LPDDR5X RAM. UFS 4.0 provides double the read and write speeds compared to its predecessor UFS 3.1 and is also 46% more efficient. This means that the S23 Ultra can open and save large files twice as fast as the S22 Ultra, while also potentially consuming less battery life.

5- New color options of Galaxy S23 Ultra

Although it may seem like a small innovation, the colors used can greatly affect the phone’s design. With the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, you’ll also get new colors: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender. As before, you can get exclusive color options, including Graphite, Lime, Sky Blue, and Red, if you purchase directly from Samsung’s official website.

Six-Year-Old Xiaomi Mi 6 Runs with HarmonyOS (Video)

“As you know, Huawei lost access to Google services a few years ago due to the US embargo. Although this allowed the company to move away from the Android ecosystem, it significantly reduced its dependence on the Western world. The Chinese tech giant has even developed its own open-source operating system during the process, called HarmonyOS. We used to seeing this OS on Huawei devices until now, but it has finally found its place in the legendary Xiaomi Mi 6 model. Here are the details…

Xiaomi Mi 6 ported with HarmonyOS (Video)

HarmonyOS continues to grow in the Chinese market, and as it does, we come across interesting modifications about open-source OS. A developer recently demonstrated that the operating system can run smoothly even on a phone with poor (Compared to todays flagships) specifications. The developer ported HarmonyOS onto a Xiaomi Mi 6 and even him surprised to find that OpenHarmony booted up successfully.

“As seen in the video, the Xiaomi Mi 6 runs HarmonyOS without any problems. However, this does not guarantee a good user experience. The developer has shared information indicating that the touch screen is currently not working. To confirm that the ported device can be unlocked and flashed, it has a third-party recovery similar to TWRP to facilitate flashing.

Xiaomi Mi 6 running harmonyOS

The OpenHarmony kernel is based on the standard Linux 5.10 kernel, with support for 4.19 no longer available. During installation, the device must have the kernel source code of 5.10 or higher, and the developer must confirm that the device driver source code and firmware can be obtained. Furthermore, prior to Open-source HarmonyOS, Xiaomi Mi 6 phones have supported flashing into the Windows 11 ARM system.

Xiaomi Mi 6 Technical Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 145.2 x 70.5 x 7.5 mm, weight: 168 grams

Xiaomi Fines Vendor 1 Million Yuan ($148K) For Leaking its EV Designs

Xiaomi has asked for 1 Million Yuan ($148000) from Beijing Molding Technology Co. Ltd as compensation and penalty for leaking the company’s yet-to-be-launched Electric Car design.

On January 22, Beijing Molding Technology accidentally leaked the design of the front and rear bumpers of the yet-to-be-released MS11 Xiaomi Electric Car. The company said that the drafts were leaked by sub-vendors, and it was not directly responsible for the incident.

However, according to the confidentiality agreement signed between Beijing Molding Technology and Xiaomi Auto, the former will be held responsible for the incident. Beijing molding will have to pay a hefty fine of 1 Million Yuan to Xiaomi for breach of contract and tighten the security measures with its downstream operations.

CEO Lei Jun said that Xiaomi had zero tolerance for leaks and hoped that all partners and suppliers would abide by the Confidentiality Agreement. The hefty fine was a lesson to all partners that Xiaomi will not accept or allow such incidents and will deal strictly with defaulters.

Apart from the fine, Xiaomi has asked Beijing Molding Technology to also submit a detailed rectification plan that can upgrade and improve the existing security measures.

Leaked Photos showing Xiaomi car being tested under extreme weather

Chinese social media went berserk last week when the images of Xiaomi’s upcoming EV were leaked. The leaks showed a sleek and sophisticated image of a sporty Sedan that was named MS11

The EV has been spotted multiple times in China with CEO Lei Jun behind the wheel test-driving the car. However, all test drives were done under wraps with utmost secrecy.

In March 2021, Xiaomi announced that it will join the EV sector and planned to invest $10 billion over the next 10 years. In August 2021, it acquired the autonomous driving company Deepmotions for $77 million

Last year CEO Lei Jun said that autonomous driving was the future of EVs and Xiaomi is planning to develop its own self-driving technology. The company expanded its R&D team in 2022 and is all set to mass-produce its cars in 2024.

iOS 16.3 Users Can Add Lock Screen Widgets to a Classic Wallpaper, Only If You Have It

Apple recently began rolling out the latest iOS 16.3 update to iPhones. In iOS 16, Apple has launched a redesigned lock screen for the iPhone that allows users to customise it with widgets, font styles, and even different wallpapers. The recent update, however, deleted the original iPhone wallpapers, and users who had one before applying the update were unable to change it. However, this has changed with iOS 16.3. That’s great news for users whose devices are receiving updates in the coming days.

Previously, if a user attempted to personalise the lock screen with a classic wallpaper that came with an earlier version of iOS, the system would alert the user that the lock screen couldn’t be customised and the user would have to choose a different wallpaper. With this change, iOS prompts the user to choose between adding a new wallpaper and customising the current one. Although Apple does not mention it in the iOS 16.3 release notes, the latest upgrade to the iPhone operating system allows users to put widgets on a classic wallpaper, but only if they still have it. The font style can also be changed.

Apple iOS 16

The official notes say that “Customizing the current Lock Screen replaces the current Home Screen wallpaper. Adding a new wallpaper keeps the current wallpaper and creates an additional one.” Unfortunately, Apple still does not allow users to select from other classic wallpapers in iOS 16. And once you delete your classic wallpaper, it cannot be restored. The iOS 16 wallpapers are no longer static images due to the new lock screen, which includes animations and visuals that interact with the clock and widgets. They are instead rendered in real-time.

There are some internet workarounds that allow you to download the classic wallpaper from an older version of iOS for your device. However, that appears to be a workaround rather than an approved technique. Officially, those classic Apple wallpapers are no longer available, at least for the time being. So that was it for the latest wallpaper-related changes made in the iOS 16.3 Update. Please share your thoughts on this by leaving a comment in the space provided below. Thank you for sticking with me until the end.
