Select Oppo Phones To Get 4 Android Updates Going Forward

At the end of last month, OnePlus made an announcement regarding the extension of software support for its select upcoming devices from 2023. A few weeks later, Oppo, the parent company of OnePlus, announces a similar thing.

We had been expecting Oppo to make the same announcement for its handsets since OnePlus phones now basically run the former’s ColorOS software. Let’s check out the new updated software policy from these two brands.

Oppo ColorOS 13 Hands-on Review
ColorOS 13 on Oppo Find X5 Pro

In a press release, Oppo reveals that it will be now providing up to 4 Android updates to select flagship smartphones from 2023. These devices will also receive security updates for up to 5 years.

Up until now, Oppo’s premium handsets were limited to 3 Android updates and 4 years of security updates. The new updated software policy is also applicable to OnePlus, which actually got to make the announcement first due to its popularity in global markets.

Thus, Oppo and OnePlus now tie with Samsung in terms of software support for their smartphones. As of now, these three brands offer longer support than Google and other leading Android OEMs.

Further, Oppo also discloses that it has delivered ColorOS 13 update to 33 devices globally in the last 4 months. It is currently the fastest rollout in the history of ColorOS. The company managed to push ColorOS 13 to 50% more devices when compared to ColorOS 12 during the same timeframe.

Similarly, since OnePlus phones now use ColorOS, the brand also witnessed the fastest rollout of the latest Android update to its devices in its history.

ColorOS has surely come a long way. Let us know your thoughts on Oppo’s Android-based mobile software in the comment section below.

Dasung Link E-Ink is an external display that makes smartphone screens look like paper

Dasung has just launched an interesting new product in China. The device is the new Link E-Ink display, which is made for smartphones. While E-Ink isn’t exactly an exciting new product by any means, this device can project the smartphone’s display to look like paper or E-Ink to be exact.

Dasung

The company has just announced the Link E-Ink, which it claims is the first of its kind in the world. This device sports a tall 6.7 inch E-Ink display and is available in two color options, namely Phantom Blue and Space Gray. The Link E-Ink is housed in a thin and light aluminum ally body that has a width of just 8mm. Furthermore, it adopts the CNC integrated engraving technology that enables it to output the E-Ink display from connected smartphones. Think of this device as an external display for smartphones.

When paired with a smartphone, the device can basically project the screen being displayed on the device on its own E-Ink panel. The Dasung Link sports a 6.7 inch E-Ink panel that has a 300ppi density. It does not emit light so it has no blue light, no strobe, and can even display screens of smartphones of different sizes and also supports iPhones as well. The link between the smartphone and the Link E-Ink display is high speed and has barely any latency between them. So one shouldn’t face any delays while using the external display.

Dasung

Furthermore, it also supports being controlled directly or reversely from the partner phone itself. In other words, it functions as a regular smartphone once paired. There are also two variants of this device, one that connects it to the handset via a wired connection and another that supports wireless connection. The device is available for purchase on JD.com starting today (21st December 2022) and starts from 1,799 Yuan (roughly 258 US Dollars).

OnePlus integrating with Oppo services to improve user experience

OnePlus Services has announced that it will be integrating with Oppo Services at the end of this month. This move is aimed at improving the overall service level for OnePlus users and better meeting their service needs. Starting on December 31, 2022 at 18:00, Oppo Services will take over the after-sales service for OnePlus products.

OnePlus users will now be able to access nearly 1,000 Oppo-authorized service experience centers across the country for after-sales service for their products. The integration of OnePlus and Oppo services follows the announcement by OnePlus founder Liu Zuohu on December 17 that the two companies had officially become dual brands.

Oppo will be investing 10 billion in OnePlus to help it develop and will open up its over 1,000 after-sales outlets to provide high-quality after-sales service to OnePlus users. 1. The service official website will switch from the OnePlus service official website to the Oppo service official website.
  2. Online customer service for OnePlus will be switched to Oppo online customer service.
  3. “OnePlus Service” Weibo and other social media accounts will be suspended. Users can instead follow the “Oppo Service” Weibo, “Oppo Service” WeChat official account, and other accounts for related service inquiries.

Apple M1 Mac PCs & Studio Display are now a part of its Self Repair program

Apple had launched a new self service repair program for some of its products a while back. Now, the company is expanding the scope of this program by adding a couple of new products into the supported list. So here are all the details.

The Cupertino based giant had just recently rolled out its self service repair program in the UK, which includes the likes of the iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and even iPhone SE. In the new updated list, owners of the M1 Mac mini, M1 iMac, Mac Studio, and Apple Studio Display can also join the self repair service. For those unaware, this basically allows you to gain access to genuine parts with repair manuals and even tools.

Apple
M1 Mac Mini

This program was made for those that would rather make fixes on their devices at their homes rather than taking it to any third party or official Apple Store. All one needs to do is rent the tools and buy all the relevant repair/replacement parts. Although one also needs to enter a code from the related manual at the checkout to show that you have actually read the document. Apple had first unveiled this service earlier this year and only included certain iPhone models in the US.

But this has since expanded to other regions and now also includes the Mac lineup of desktop PCs and more. According to Apple COO Jeff Williams “We believe the best technology for our customers and for the planet is technology that lasts, which is why we design our products to be durable and rarely require maintenance or repair. But when a repair is needed, we want customers to have many options for safe, reliable, and secure repair.”

Elon Musk: ‘I Will Resign as CEO’ of Twitter

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has announced that he will resign from his position as CEO of Twitter. The decision comes after a poll in which 57% of respondents voted for Musk to step down from his role at the social media platform.

Elon Musk announces resignation as Twitter CEO following poll

Elon Musk has announced that he will step down as CEO of Twitter, following a poll in which 57% of respondents voted for him to resign. In a tweet, Musk stated that he will resign “as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job” and will instead focus on running the software and servers teams.

Musk’s time as CEO of Twitter has been marked by a series of controversies and policy changes. Shortly after taking over the social media platform in October, Musk fired approximately half of Twitter’s staff and attempted to roll out a paid-for verification feature, which was eventually put on hold. The feature was relaunched last week.

Musk has also faced criticism from civil liberties groups for his approach to content moderation, with some accusing him of taking steps that will increase hate speech and misinformation on the platform.

On Friday, Musk was condemned by the United Nations and European Union over Twitter’s decision to suspend a number of journalists who cover the social media company. The UN tweeted that media freedom was “not a toy,” while the EU threatened Twitter with sanctions.

It remains to be seen who will replace Musk as CEO of Twitter. The billionaire CEO has a history of making and reversing decisions quickly, and it is possible that he may change his mind about stepping down in the future. In the meantime, Twitter users will be watching to see how the social media platform evolves under new leadership.

Apple iPhone SE 4 Likely To Get Cancelled Due To Lower-Than-Expected Demand

Apple has several different models of iPhones, but the most popular models have been the Pro and Pro Plus versions for the past few years, and the multiple experiments with the mid- to low-end versions haven’t worked out well for the brand.

Now, as per the latest report from Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to cancel the upcoming Apple iPhone SE 4 smartphone or postpone the mass production of the device for 2024 due to lower-than-expected demand.

Apple iPhone SE 4 Render

Another reason for the cancellation of the device is said to be the increased cost of materials because of the full-screen design, which will also lead to higher selling prices for the smartphone. This can also help the company reduce expenses of new product development, especially at a time when there’s a looming global recession, and anything that Apple saves could help the brand.

It isn’t just the iPhone SE models that are not meeting the company’s expectations when it comes to sales. The Apple iPhone 13 Mini, as well as its replacement for the new lineup, the iPhone 14 Plus, had very low demand in the market compared to what the company expected. The Cupertino-based technology giant had to lower the production for the 14 Plus model and boost the Pro models due to demand.

The development comes at a time when reports and leaks have painted a pretty good picture of what can be expected of the iPhone SE 4 smartphone. The phone, which is said to be a “flagship killer” smartphone, features a 6.1-inch 720p LCD display of iPhone XR and could be rated IP67 and be powered by a 3,000mAh battery with support for 20W fast charging and 7.5W wireless charging.

Internally, the device is expected to be powered by the latest Apple A16 Bionic processor, which is powering the newly launched Apple iPhone 14 Pro series but it could end up using the A15 SoC found on the iPhone 14 lineup. In the camera department, there could be a single 12-megapixel sensor on the back and a 7-megapixel selfie shooter up front.

It is not yet confirmed if the iPhone SE 4 has been canceled or postponed, but whatever the case, we expect to know more about it in the coming days from different sources. Till then, we advise you to take this with a pinch of salt until we get confirmation about this from other sources as well.
