Pixel Watch and Other WearOS Devices Might Get Support for Gmail and Google Calendar Soon

WearOS, a quite popular operating system developed by Google for smartwatches, has now said to get support for Gmail and Google Calendar. Google Pixel Watch was the first product launched by Google and not much time has passed since its official launch. The Pixel Watch was the first product launched by the brand in that particular category and therefore some more refinement and optimization are needed on the software side to provide an overall polished and improved user experience.

A new report coming from the house of 9TO5Google has revealed that Google might be possibly working on adding Gmail and Google Calendar support to the WearOS operating system. The Gmail and Calendar apps for Wear OS devices, which include the Pixel Watch itself, will soon undergo more useful updates.

Pixel Watch

Currently, if you own a Google smartwatch, you must use the Agenda app to manage any calendar-related tasks. The Agenda app’s lack of suitability for its intended use is the problem here. Only three days’ worth of appointments are displayed to you, and all you can do with them is read the details. There is no possibility to add new events or alter existing ones in any manner. This problem might be resolved with appropriate support for the official application.

According to the source, the applications would provide a “complete” experience, which implies that we might gain support for detailed email reading, email replies, and other Gmail-like capabilities. At least, that’s what we mean when we say an experience was “full.” With Google Calendar, the user might be able to add tasks and events right from their watch and it might feature a full calendar and event view. All of this, though, appears to be part of our expectations. Wait a few more months, and we might see the feature in its official form. Shortly after that, its true practicality will be analyzed.

Xiaomi Teases MIUI 14 Features: More Uninstallable System Apps, Lower Memory Consumption, and More

Xiaomi has confirmed to unveil MIUI 14 at the Xiaomi 13 series launch event. The conference was supposed to take place on December 1. But unfortunately, it has been now postponed.

Anyway, ahead of the conference, the company has teased some of the features of its latest software. Let’s take a look at them.

MIUI 14 Teaser

A couple of days back, Xiaomi kicked off an early access program for MIUI 14. People participating in this initiative will get a chance to try the new software before the general public.

Followed by that, the firm has now disclosed some features of the software. It has also been revealed that the new iteration of MIUI is codenamed ‘Project Razor’.

Xiaomi says that MIUI 14 aims to offer ‘minimum firmware, minimum memory usage, and minimum non-uninstallable applications.’ The head of MIUI had already teased this earlier saying that MIUI 14 will be the ‘most streamlined and lightweight flagship mobile phone system.’

The company reveals that MIUI 14 firmware will consume less storage. To be precise, its memory size has been reduced by 23% compared to the previous generation.

Further, MIUI 14 will allocate memory efficiently. It will release the non-essential self-starting processes from the boot memory as much as possible. It will also strictly control the memory usage of system applications and services. Hopefully, this doesn’t block notifications from apps.

Finally, MIUI 14 will allow users to uninstall more system applications than ever before. Apart from dialer, contacts, messages, settings, browser, camera, file manager, and app store, users will be able to uninstall all other system apps. This means one can even uninstall clock, weather, gallery, and more.

We don’t know how many of these changes will trickle down to the global version of MIUI 14. Hopefully, Xiaomi brings more features possible to all the markets. Until then, let us know your thoughts on the next-gen Xiaomi mobile software in the comment section below.

OneXPlayer 2 handheld console launch delayed, Indiegogo backers will receive units in March 2023

Last week, One-netbook launched a new Intel Pentium Gold version of the OneXPlayer mini and also announced the OneXPlayer 2. The successor of the original OneXPlayer is said to feature detachable controllers, similar to the ones found on the Nintendo switch.

OneXPlayer

Additionally, OneXPlayer 2 is confirmed to feature the AMD Ryzen 7 6800U APU along with a large 8.4-inch IPS display and a 65.5 Wh battery. According to the company, the OneXPlayer 2 will ship with Harman Kardon-branded stereo speakers and active stylus support, among other things.

Originally, One-netbook planned to release the OneXPlayer 2 on November 25. It has, however, postponed the device’s release until December 20. It’s worth noting that this December 20 launch date comes with a few caveats. For starters, OneXPlayer 2 will only be available on Indiegogo, a popular crowdfunding website, on December 20. While One-netbook has previously delivered on several crowdfunding campaigns, they do not offer the same consumer guarantees as if you ordered it directly from the company’s website.

Further, units for OneXPlayer 2 will not be delivered to backers until at least March 2023, with a lead time of three months. One-netbook, for example, typically ships orders in batches, which may be why it has a March–April 2023 delivery window listed on its website. Although the company has shown off the device’s Switch-like gamepad, there are few further details available regarding the OneXPlayer 2. According to the marketing renders that have been made publicly available so far, One-netbook appears to be preparing to sell the ONEXPLAYER 2 in two colors.

More details about the OneXPlayer 2 have been kept under wraps, however, we can expect it to feature a keyboard dock connector at the bottom of the console along with a Nintendo Switch-style kickstand. The I/O I/O is expected to be equipped with a microphone-headphone combo jack, a couple of USB-C ports, a microSD card port, and a USB 3.0 connector.

Apple is by far one of the most popular brands in the smartwatch market across the globe. Now, a new report has revealed that it is not just a known name but a leader in the segment, especially when talking about the higher end models.

According to a Counterpoint Research report, the Cupertino based giant’s Apple Watch series accounted for 50.6 percent of all premium smartwatch sales in the global market in the third quarter of this year. The report talked about “HLOS” smartwatch models, which basically means high level operating system. In this category, the brand dominated in the market, facing against the likes of Samsung, Huawei, Garmin, Fitbit, and Fossil as well.

Apple

The South Korean tech giant arrived second with a market share of 22.3 percent during the same time. This means that Apple had a more than twice the lead in the market over the second most popular high end smartwatch maker. As per the report, the company’s Watch Series 8 was primarily credited for this success, despite being quite recently launched in the market. Furthermore, Apple’s total smartwatch shipments also saw a sizeable 50 percent boost over the same quarter from last year.

Following Samsung, Amazfit took the third spot in the market with a 7.1 percent share, while Huawei came in fourth with a 6.4 percent market share. Garmin rounded up the top list with a market share of 4.5 percent. Keep in mind that this list only consisted of high level OS smartwatches and not the wearables with basic operating systems. So this list did not include other popular brands like Noise, Fire-Boltt, boAt, and even Xiaomi.

Tata reportedly in talks to buy Wistron’s iPhone plant in India

Tata Group is apparently planning on buying a manufacturing facility from one of Apple’s suppliers. The company aims to acquire the iPhone manufacturing plant of Wistron that is set up in India. So here are all the details.

The Indian conglomerate is reportedly in talks with the Taiwanese supplier to buy out the iPhone production facility that is situated in the region, as per sources close to the matter (Via Economic Times). The company was previously rumored to be eyeing the iPhone production site earlier this year, and now it seems like the plan has seemingly moved forward. We had also reported that Tata Group may soon build iPhones for Apple in India. Tata was in discussions with Wistron to enter into a partnership to setup a joint electronics manufacturing venture in India.

This collaboration would primarily revolve around the production of iPhones in the country. The company is supposedly planning on working with Wistron to get access to its expertise in product development, supply chain, and assembly. For those unaware, Apple has been working on diversifying its supply chain outside of China and has been expanding it to regions like India and Vietnam. So this joint venture would’ve had Wistron’s iPhone assembling output to rise by over five times in India.

Interestingly enough, Tata has already entered the smartphone supply chain for Apple iPhones. It is currently building iPhone chassis components in the Southern part of India. Apart from Wistron, another Apple supplier called Pegatron and Foxconn assemble iPhone models in India, with the former recently deciding on building the company’s latest iPhone 14 series in the region.

Although the overall design still features some differences, the standard model will have a sleek design with thin bezels, flat aluminum edges, and a glass panel with a large camera island on the back. Rumors claim that the 50MP sensor could be paired with another 50MP telephoto sensor, another 50MP ultrawide, and a 32MP selfie camera on the 13 series. We also expect to see the Sony 1-inch 50MP Sony IMX989 in at least one model, but probably it will be on 13 Pro.

The company also confirmed new devices powered by the recently unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The Xiaomi 13 is rumored to be the first device in the world to feature the new platform. While the rest of the specifications are still in the rumor mill, the 13 Pro is expected to come with a 6.7-inch display, 8/12 GB of RAM, and 128/256/512GB UFS 3.1 storage options. The Xiaomi 13 will probably pack a 4,500mAh battery, and it is expected to support 67W fast charging.

Xiaomi 13 Pro

The most curious model of the Xiaomi 13 series is undoubtedly the 13 Pro. According to the latest leaks, the smartphone has a similar design to the standard model. But the curved screen and square-shaped camera module at the rear, which houses a triple camera unit and an LED flash unit placed under the Leica branding, are expected to set the two models apart. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is tipped to have a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and QHD resolution. The displays in both phones will offer up to 1,900 nits of peak brightness.

Another point of similarity between the two phones is the processor. Xiaomi 13 Pro will also use Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform. The company claims that the LPDDR5X RAM will bring 33 percent increased performance, and the UFS 4.0 will offer 100 percent increased speed on the duo. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is rumored to boast a large 4,800 mAh battery with support for 120W fast wired charging, and possibly 50W fast wireless charging.

The Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro will receive IP68 certification, providing peace of mind against dust and water. The bottom of the device will house a microphone, the USB-C port, and a speaker cutout. The right side will contain the volume rocker and the power button. Xiaomi also confirmed that it’d be announcing MIUI 14 alongside the new flagships. However, it is currently unclear whether the devices will come out of the box with this version.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Shipments In Trouble Due To Foxconn Factory Protests

Apple launched the latest iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro series of flagship smartphones a couple of months back. For the first time, the devices come with a significant difference between both lineups.

The Apple iPhone 14 Pro series has good demand in the market compared to the standard iPhone 14 lineup but it appears that the company will soon be facing shipment issues for the popular iPhone models because of its contract manufacturer Foxconn.

According to a new report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, shipments of Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models in the fourth quarter of this year will be significantly lower than the market consensus due to protests at Foxconn’s main factory in China.

The Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou, China, has been significantly affected by the protests by the workers over unfavorable working conditions, which he believes will adversely impact the Q4 2022 shipments forecast by around 20 percent or about 70-75 million units.

He adds that the average capacity utilization rate at the factory in the month of November was only 20 percent, but that is expected to increase to about 30 percent to 40 percent in December. He believes that the production issues could result in iPhone revenue being “significantly lower than the market consensus by 20–30% or more” this quarter.

Ming-Chi Kuo further notes that Pegatron and Luxshare, two other contract manufacturers for Apple, have each received about 10 percent of iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max orders from Foxconn. However, those orders aren’t expected to start shipping until late December or early January of the next year.

Currently, the delay time for the Apple iPhone 14 Pro models is at least four weeks when the device is ordered through the company’s official online store in the United States as the Cupertino-based tech giant is struggling to maintain supply.
