New Xiaomi 12T Pro Daniel Arsham Edition Arrives with a Sculptural Design

Xiaomi today unveiled the Xiaomi 12T Pro Daniel Arsham Edition with an iconic sculptural design. Like any other limited-edition handset, this one also comes with customized accessories, packaging, and user interface. The company says the new model is limited to just 2,000 units, and its pre-orders begin on December 5. Let’s have a closer look at the details.

Xiaomi 12T Pro Daniel arsham edition

As the name suggests, the new Xiaomi 12T Pro model is designed in collaboration with Daniel Arsham, a contemporary artist based in New York City. You might know Arsham from his crystallised Pokémon sculptures, which gained quite some popularity.

The limited-edition smartphone features the New York-based artist’s signature fossilized style, a decaying style that he calls “Fictional Archaeology.” It is designed to be “a sculpture with a purpose outside of being a functional object.” The device comes with bronze crystals integrated into an eroded green patina. Even though the crystals aren’t protruding, the printed gems in the coating and parts of the patina make them appear more convincing.

Xiaomi-12T-Pro-Daniel-arsham-edition-box

The artist said, “In 20 years, people who have this phone will no longer use it as a phone but as a sculptural object, linked to a particular moment in time and carrying it beyond its functionality.”

Xiaomi has also customized the UI of the device, giving it a more contemporary look. The smartphone comes with a custom-made gyroscopic wallpaper that continues Arsham’s theme of erosion. The wallpaper shifts gently with the motion of the device to create a 3D effect.

Xiaomi 12T Pro Daniel Arsham Edition will cost around $932 and be available for pre-order starting December 5. It will go on sale on December 16. Note that the handset will only be sold in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Interested readers will be able to purchase the device from Mi.com.

iPhone 15 Series Prices May Be Higher Than Expected Because of TSMC

The 3 nm era has officially started in chip production. Manufacturers such as Samsung and TSMC have started the production process for chips that develop with this technology. It looks like TSMC will start shipping 3nm chips to Apple for the iPhone 15 series. Although this situation is good in terms of performance and energy efficiency, its reflection on costs has already begun. TSMC’s wafer prices double from 7nm production to 3nm.

TSMC’s wafer prices double from 7nm production to 3nm

The A17 Bionic chip developed by Apple for the iPhone 15 series will be produced by TSMC, the world’s leading chip foundry, using a state-of-the-art process node. Simply put, the lower the process node number, the smaller the transistors used in a chip allowing more transistors inside a chip, the more powerful and energy-efficient it is. This process causes more advanced processors to emerge every year.

tsmc wafer

For Example, iPhone 11 had 7nm A13 Bionic SoC, released in 2019 that carried 8.5 billion transistors in each chip but iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max had the A16 Bionic chipset under their hoods. Unfortunately, maintaining the progress we’ve seen in the past is getting harder and harder each year.

Both TSMC and Samsung have plans for 2nm chips starting in 2025 and it is even possible that we will see 1nm by 2030. Although these developments have many advantages, they also come with costs. According to the latest reports TSMC plans on charging more than $20,000 for 3nm wafers. When the foundry moved from 7nm to 5nm, wafer pricing rose 60% from $10,000/wafer to $16,000/wafer.

At first glance, these costs do not make sense for the end user, but the increase in prices is inevitable. Based on this, it is possible to say that the iPhone 15 and other flagship models will come out at a higher price than expected. Especially considering that the cost increase is not limited to wafers.

Tesla Cybertruck Reaches 1.5 Million Pre-Orders

It’s been almost three years since Elon Musk announced the Tesla Cybertruck. However, car enthusiasts did not give up hope on this vehicle, which looks like it came out of 90’s sci-fi movies. According to the statements made by Tesla, the number of people who pre-order Cybertruck has reached 1.5 million. There is only one question in mind, “Will it meet the expectation?”

Tesla Cybertruck reaches 1.5 million pre-orders

Elon Musk first demonstrated the Tesla Cybertruck at a controversial launch in 2019. At the event, Musk praised the vehicle’s performance and durability, saying it would set industry standards. At the event, he took a sledgehammer and started hitting the car and nothing happened. After the sledgehammer, he took a stone and threw it at the ‘unbreakable glass’ of the cybertruck. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned here and the glass of the car door was shattered.

Interior of Tesla Cybertruck

Despite the scandal, users loved the presentation of the Tesla Cybertruck, and 250 thousand of people pre-ordered the vehicle in its first week. It seems that the interest has not decreased in time and this number has reached 1.5 million. However, it should be noted that this does not mean that Tesla has sold 1.5 million Cybertruck.

The company currently takes a $100 deposit for each pre-order, waiting for the vehicle to be ready to receive its full price. This means that anyone with enough money in their pocket can pre-order, even if they aren’t going to buy it. Although we do not know how many 1.5 million people will actually buy Cybertruck, but even now, the money entering the company is 150 million dollars.

When will production start?

The biggest problems that Tesla has experienced in the past have been on the production side. In previous models, many customers waited a very long for delivery after placing their orders. However, the company stepped up things by solving its problems after 2019. The company says the Cybertruck is on track to start production in mid-2023.

Another point of concern is the price. Elon Musk announced the cost of the vehicle at the event in 2019, but the pandemic and global inflation may cause these prices to change. If Tesla would deliver the Cybertruck at the price point and with the specs initially announced in 2019, it would probably beat the Model Y (the best-selling Tesla model).

The electric cargo scooter is equipped with front and rear disc brakes, full LED lights, and a large digital LCD screen. MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Specs Leaked Ahead of the Official Launch; Seems A Minor Upgrade

MediaTek is preparing for the launch of its MediaTek Dimensity 8200 mobile chipset. The chipset will be launched as a successor to the existing MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC. It has been tipped earlier that iQOO Neo7 SE will be the first smartphone to debut with the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset. Now, known tipster Digital Chat Station on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo has leaked the key specifications of the forthcoming chipset.

The tipster said that it will use the same four Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55 cores, but in a different arrangement and at faster clock rates. The Cortex-A78 will be split into two clusters: one running at 3.1 GHz and three at 3.0 GHz. The four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores continue to run at 2.0 GHz.

Mediatek

To put things in perspective, the Cortex-A78 in the Dimensity 8100 operates at 2.85 GHz, meaning MediaTek significantly increased the clock speeds. But the Mali-G610 MC6 GPU is unchanged. The tipster concludes by stating that the SoC’s AnTuTu performance probably exceeds the 900,000-point threshold. The tipster also mentions that future Redmi and iQOO smartphones which will be powered by the same chipset will be priced below CNY 2,000 or USD 180.

So that’s all we have to say at this time about the new MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset. According to the leaked specifications, only a few minor adjustments have been made here and there. Let’s wait a few more days before evaluating the chipset’s performance in actual use. When compared to its predecessor, we anticipate it will perform similarly. Anyway, all these stand out to be a part of unofficial information so you can take it with a pinch of salt.

Xiaomi MIJIA Wiha Household Toolbox is Now on Open Sale

Xiaomi has got a number of handy tools under the Wiha brand especially screwdriver sets like the Wiha Electric Screwdrivers with an LED light. There is also the Wiha Precision Screwdriver set and the Wiha 3-in-1 flashlight. The Xiaomi brand recently launched the Wiha Household Toolbox under crowdfunding. The toolbox is now available to snap up in China via the Xiaomi Youpin platform for 1999 yuan ($275). This is slightly higher than the crowdfunding price which is 1699 yuan ($234).

MIJIA Wiha Household Toolbox

As a reminder, the MIJIA Wiha Household Toolbox contains 60 professional repair tools, including screwdrivers, precision screwdrivers, short handle screwdrivers, ratchet wrenches, hex sockets, wire cutters, needle nose pliers, pliers wrench, hammer, degausser, tape measure, and spirit level. A variety of screwdriver handles are also included in the tool package, including the PicoFinish precision screwdriver handle with a thin handle. By making it simple to rotate the screen driver fast, tiredness will be significantly decreased. There is also the original SoftFinish octagonal handle, which is labor-saving and effectively fits the hand’s palm. Last but not least, the Stubby short-handle shape works well in confined spaces.

The wire cutters’ jaws use a three-point clamping mechanism, which increases clamping stability. The jaws’ maximum hardness is 64 HRC, and they can cut 1.8 mm of spring steel. The wire cutter has DynamicJoint’s proprietary technology, which reduces labor costs when cutting by 20%.

The needle nose pliers also have twill mesh serrations on the jaws, which provide flexibility and stability when clamping and bending objects. The jaws can easily cut different kinds of steel wires since they are composed of C70 high-carbon steel, which has a hardness of roughly 64HRC.

MIJIA Wiha Household Toolbox

Another outstanding feature of the package is the toolbox. It’s made with high-quality injection molding technology. The L-shaped box is reinforced with ribs, which considerably increases the toolbox’s strength. It also has custom storage space designed to efficiently reduce tool bumps, particularly when carrying the toolbox.

Xiaomi may not officially launch this product outside China but it will likely be available to buy from third-party retailers like Aliexpress soon.

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II to soon receive Qualcomm aptX Lossless support

Back in September 2022, Bose had announced its latest model of premium truly wireless earbuds, which was called the QuietComfort Earbuds II. Now, the company is announcing a new update to make these high end hearables offer even better audio quality.

For those unaware, the brand had promoted the QuietComfort Earbuds II as the best noise cancelling TWS in the world. It appears that the company is now trying to even raise the audio quality on these earbuds by offering the Qualcomm aptX Lossless support on these models soon. The company has announced that the new aptX format will be arriving for these earbuds soon, which is basically a Bluetooth codec that the chipmaking giant had announced earlier this month during the Snapdragon Summit 2022 event.

Bose

As if right now, the QuietComfort Earbuds II does not support any form of aptX technologies despite relying on Qualcomm’s S5 sound platform. Bose had even restricted the earbuds to AAC and SBC codecs as well. While the official launch date is still unknown, the company is expected to roll out the aptX Lossless support sometime in the Spring of 2023 via a software update.

Although since the date isn’t out yet, it could even take a bit longer as well. The QuietComfort Earbuds II is technically capable of playing 16 bit audio at 44.1kHz with aptX Lossless. This should even work alongside the low latency connectivity option that the Qualcomm S5 offers.
