Alleged Google Pixel 7 Mini’s key details emerge

Google is reportedly working on a couple of new devices that have Lynx and Felix codenames. The Lynx (shortened codename – L10) is said to be a Pixel series smartphone, while the Felix is likely to end up as a foldable phone. The final moniker of the Pixel Lynx is not known yet. Android researcher Kuba Wojciechowski recently tipped off some information about the device.

In July, Kuba claimed that the Lynx could be the third high-end Pixel phone for this year. At that time, he revealed that the camera setup of the Lynx model has the Samsung GN1 main camera and the Sony IMX787 camera. For selfies, the device will offer a Sony IMX712 camera on the front. In September, the tipster claimed that there are two Sony IMX712 sensors on the device. One of them is on the front, while the other one will be available as an ultra-wide snapper on the back.

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

Kuba said that Qualcomm’s Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth chip (WCNG6740) will be in the Lynx Pixel phone. To recall, the Broadcom BCM4389 chip is in both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series. The Lynx phone will also have support for wireless charging.

Coming to the display, the Lynx model is likely to feature a slightly inferior display as compared to the existing Pixel Pro models. The screen may support a 120Hz refresh rate and a Full HD+ resolution. The displays of the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro also support a 120Hz refresh rate and they also offer a high resolution of 1440 x 3210 pixels. Kuba has speculated that it could be the Pixel 7 Mini. The Lynx phone certainly does not appear to be the Pixel 7a as some publications have reported.

Speaking of Pixel 7 Mini, leaked information shared by Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station in September revealed that the Pixel 7 Mini is a small-screen flagship phone. He also claimed that the device is codenamed “Neila.” Hence, it is unclear whether the Neila and Lynx are the same or similar devices.

OnePlus Ace Pro Genshin Impact Limited Edition goes on sale today in China

Last week, OnePlus launched a special edition smartphone in China called the OnePlus Ace Pro Genshin Impact Limited Edition. The device will finally go on sale later today for RMB 4,299 (~$591).

This is a custom version of the OnePlus Ace Pro (aka the OnePlus 10T) which comes with a Genshin Impact-themed paint job, UI, and with multiple collectibles of the said game. For those unaware, Genshin Impact is a highly popular action-adventure role-playing game available on both PC and smartphones.

Oneplus Ace Pro Genshin Impact edition

The design of the smartphone is basically themed around Hu Tao, one of the most powerful DPS characters in Genshin Impact. The smartphone comes packaged in a collector-grade, limited gift box. The city wall at the Liyue port’s entrance is reflected in the texture of the box. A gift box that comes with the smartphone contains a variety of extras, including Hu Tao stickers, a limited-edition Hu Tao painting poster, “A Letter to Travelers” (which includes 1,000 rough stones), a SIM ejector pin, a butterfly seat charging adapter, and a specially designed heat dissipation protective shell.

On the back of the device, we find an etching of Hu Tao along with flame textures themed after her Pyrokinesis abilities. There are multiple butterflies etched on the rear panel and the LED flash unit has the same flower pattern as Hu Tao’s eyes.

The OnePlus Ace Pro Genshin Impact edition has the same core specifications as the standard device. This means that the smartphone has a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It boasts a 16MP front camera and a 50MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle snapper, and a 2MP macro sensor on the back. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, paired with 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. It has a 4,800mAh battery that supports 150W fast charging. The Hu Tao-themed software customization on the OnePlus Ace Pro Genshin Impact edition includes boot animation, live wallpaper, fingerprint unlocking, charging animation, built-in app icons, and more.

NexPad: the secondary display for smartphones begins shipping with $249 price tag

Earlier this year, Nex Computer revealed the NexPad, which is basically a portable external display compatible with smartphones, laptops, and PCs. Almost 10 months after its announcement, the company is finally commencing shipments of the NexPad.

The NexPad is still a $249 purchase, with a $19 shipping fee from Nex Computer. The brand hasn’t made any changes to the spec sheet as the NexPad’s 277 x 250 x 63 mm chassis still houses a 12-inch laminated display. The NexPad, according to Nex Computer, uses an IPS panel with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio.

For those unaware, NexPad’s highlight feature is that it can turn your Android smartphone into a tablet. Utilizing Android’s built-in desktop mode is the focal point of NexPad. A USB Type-C connection is also available on the NexPad for attaching a smartphone. It also includes a number of magnets for fastening your smartphone while holding the NexPad. According to Nex Computer, you could use your mounted smartphone as a touchpad or additional screen. The device weighs a considerable amount at 736 g, and the combined weight with a smartphone could land it close to a kilogram. This is likely why NexPad comes with an included kickstand to convert the device into a tabletop tablet.

Other than the USB-C port, the NexPad also has dual USB 3.1 Type-C ports with pass-through charging, a mini HDMI 2.0 port, and a USB 2.0 Type-C port for data transfer. The NexPad could serve as a secondary laptop display. Nex Computer demonstrates how the NexPad may be attached to the top of a laptop. The magnets on the former’s front panel, presumably, interact with those in most laptop-top covers. The device is currently available for purchase in the US and Canada. Interested readers can visit the Nex Computer website to find out more.

Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 tablet in works, could be Xiaomi Pad 6 series

An Android tablet featuring the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset is in the works, claims reliable tipster Digital Chat Station. However, he did not share the marketing name of the device. It is speculated that he could be talking about the Xiaomi Pad 6 series.

This is not the first time the tipster has leaked information about a Snapdragon 8-series chipset. Back in June, he claimed that it was reportedly tipped that Xiaomi is working on a tablet with a 14-inch display. He also said that it will be the most expensive model in the lineup, which appears to be the Xiaomi Pad 6 series.

Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.5

The 14-inch Xiaomi Pad 6 series may arrive as a competitor to the likes of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and the iPad Pro 2022. Hence, there is a possibility that the device could be called the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro / Ultra. A report from the past said that the same model might come with a Dimensity 9000 chipset.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 lineup is likely to include at least three models. The Pad 6 series is expected to offer a 144Hz LTPO OLD panel and support up to 120W fast charging. The device may come preinstalled with the latest Android 13 OS.

Xiaomi is expected to launch the Xiaomi 13 series featuring the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset by the end of November this year. There is a chance that Xiaomi’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 tablet will be shown at the launch event for the Xiaomi 13. Readers are advised to wait for further reports to learn more about the Xiaomi Pad 6 series.

Vivo X90 official camera samples show the prowess of the new Zeiss camera

Vivo has confirmed speculations that the X90 series will feature the new Zeiss lenses for improved camera output. Vivo has provided images of the upcoming hardware in the X90 lineup. The X90 series will come with primary cameras with more efficient light-sensitive sensors (up to 77%) and support for artificial intelligence (AI) to maximize quality.

The top model in the X90 series is the Vivo X90 Pro Plus which is rumored to be equipped with four high-megapixel cameras. The release of the camera samples preceded the actual release of the Vivo X90 lineup and reflects the OEM’s aim to focus on camera capabilities for the X90. Vivo made a similar move when the X80 Pro was released. Vivo says that all models in the X90 lineup will have primary cameras that are 77% more light-sensitive than the ISOCELL GNV. The ISOCELL GNV was a custom-made sensor with a 1/1.3-inch optical format and an f/1.57 aperture.

[envira-gallery id=”492975″]

The Vivo X90’s new sensor is claimed to operate at up to ISO 102,400 which is quite massive. This allows the smartphone to shoot nightscapes without a tripod stand or a long exposure. However, the high ISO rating reduces the dynamic range and increases image noise as shown in the images. The images also reflect up to 3.5x magnification and an AI algorithm that recognizes 103 facial features. The AI algorithm also can adjust the background and applies intelligent beauty filters.

Vivo is yet to provide details on the release date of the X90 series. How many models will feature in the X90 lineup is also unclear.

The iQOO 10 is likely to come equipped with a 6.78-inch AMOLED E6 FHD+ display with support for a 144Hz refresh rate. It is likely to feature a 16-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel (main) + 13-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 12-megapixel (telephoto) triple camera unit. Realme 10 launch seems imminent. Several reports have claimed that it will be arriving to the global market by early November. As per a tweet by tipster Abhishek Yadav, the Realme 10 series will debut on Nov. 9 in the global market. He added that the first sale will be held on Nov. 11. Ahead of the expected launch, a couple of live shots of the Realme 10 4G have started doing the rounds on social media platforms. Here is a look at what appears to be the actual Realme 10 4G.

The images give a good look at the front and rear design of the Realme 10 4G. It has a display with a punch-hole in the upper left corner on the front. The live shots reveal that the Realme 10 is equipped with the Helio G99 chipset and runs on Realme UI 3.0. The handset can be seen in white and black colors, which are likely to be marketed as the Clash White and Rush Black.

The variant that can be seen in the live shot has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.  The device measures 159.9 x 73.3 x 7.95mm and weighs around 178 grams. The RMX3630 model number, which was seen on certification platforms, can also be seen in the new images. Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition fails to meet advertised 210W fast charging in independent testing

Last week, Redmi launched the Note 12 series of smartphones with the vanilla Note 12, the Note 12 Pro, the Note 12 Discovery Edition, and the Note 12 Pro Plus in the lineup. Out of these devices, the Note 12 Discovery Edition comes with a 4,300mAh battery paired with jaw-dropping 210W fast charging.

The company claims that the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition can in just 9 minutes using the 210W fast charging feature. However, independent testing by Charger Labs has revealed that the real-world charging performance is not quite up to the advertised values.

Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition

The Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition manages to reach a peak charging wattage of 184.85 W roughly three minutes into Charger Labs’ charging test. It doesn’t charge at such great Wattage for long either, as is to be expected from such high power outputs, as it lowers down to lower wattages. The Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition charges at a rate that is typically much higher than 120 W.

According to Charger Labs’ test, the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition can charge to 100% in 10 minutes and 10 seconds, compared to Xiaomi’s claim that the mid-range phone can do so in nine minutes. Although it doesn’t exactly match Xiaomi’s claim, it comes close and is far faster than every other smartphone ever created.

More astoundingly, it accomplishes it without producing a lot of heat. The Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition’s maximum temperature during the test was merely 43.3°C. This could be attributed to the fact that the device features a large 3,000mm² VC cooling system.

ChromeOS 107 update goes live with Save desk for later, easy accents & more new features

Google has committed to improving its ChromeOS with constant updates in the last few months. The search giant has now dropped a new update called ChromeOS 107, which brings along a handful of new features.

The capability to save Desks is the most significant new element. Simply click the button on the Overview screen to “Save desk for later.” You can give it a name, view the creation date, and quickly inspect the icons.

It is now simpler to close open desks from the Overview menu, and if you accidentally close a desk and wish to undo it, a brief “Undo” prompt appears. A merge feature that enables you to combine opened Desks into a single one is apparently also being tested by Google.

The Recent view in the Files app has been redesigned, and a “documents” filter has been added. Furthermore, rather than being a simple list, the list below is organized by date. Finally, when you hold down on the virtual or real keyboard, a pop-up list with accented characters appears. If that fails, you may need to enable the flag in Chrome.

Apple expected to release iOS 16.2 in a few weeks with new features

Apple recently rolled out the new iOS 16.1 version for the iPhones just weeks after the company had released the iOS 16, bringing several new features and functionalities to the operating system. Now, the company is working on the next version of the update.

According to the latest report from Mark Gurman’s PowerOn newsletter, the next major update for the iPhone’s software, iOS 16.2, is expected to be officially released sometime around mid-December along with the iPadOS 16.2.

Apple iOS 16

The Cupertino-based technology giant has already released the first beta of iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 for developers and public beta testers. While the full list of the features and changes for the upcoming update remains unknown, some of the features and improvements that can be expected have been released through the beta release.

iOS 16.2 will come with support for Live Activities for select sports games for the built-in TV application, allowing users to track games in real-time on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. It will also allow users to add a new Sleep widget option on the Lock Screen.

Freeform, a new application from Apple which allows users to collaborate with friends and co-workers, was announced at WWDC. The app is currently available for developers and beta testers, and now it is expected to be rolled out to everyone with the new iOS 16.2 as well as to the users of iPadOS 16.2 and macOS 13.1.

As the update is expected to be rolled out in December, there’s still time for the company to add new features and make other noticeable changes to the operating system. After iOS 16.2, the company is expected to release iOS 16.3 sometime around February or March next year, coinciding with the new Mac devices launch.

Samsung may soon rollout One UI 5.0 based on Android 13 to Galaxy S21 FE

Samsung recently published a One UI 5 stable release schedule for eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets through the Samsung Members app in its home market of South Korea. However, the company didn’t reveal the rollout timeline for its second fan edition smartphone— the Galaxy S21 FE.

Now, Android 13-based One UI 5.0 test builds for the Galaxy S21 FE have been spotted on the company’s servers, which suggests the firmware is currently being tested internally (via Samsung One UI Software Updates). It is reported that the stable update for the smartphone will be released sometime next month (November). But there’s no official confirmation about the same.

Galaxy s21 fe

The flagship Galaxy S21 series received its fair share of One UI 5.0 beta updates but, for some reason, Galaxy S21 FE was not a part of the beta testing. Android 13 will be the first major OS upgrade for the smartphone because Samsung delayed its launch and shipped it with Android 12 out of the box. S21 Fe is eligible for four major upgrades in total.
