Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU is melting cables, brand starts investigating

Nvidia had just recently announced its RTX 4000 series of graphic cards, with the RTX 4090 being the top end model that came with some impressive performance bumps over the last generation. However, it seems that some of that high performance comes at a cost.

According to a Tom’s Hardware report, Team Green is currently investigating a report from a couple of RTX 4090 GPU buyers. Apparently, a Gigabyte RTX 4090 shared his problem on Reddit, which another user also claimed to have faced. The issue in question is the adapter cable being burnt and melted. For those unaware, the RTX 4090 is provided with a connection for an ATX 2.0 PSU (4 x 8 pin to 16 pin). The original Reddit post even shared pictures of the burnt cables, which had clearly been melted to a point that made them unusable.

Nvidia

On the other hand, the other RTX 4090 owner had an ASUS TUF Gaming OC card. The second user stated that “I was having a gaming session few hours ago, playing Black Desert with my dungeon party. All the sudden the screen went black and all the fans started spinning at 100%. Powered off the machine and after some inspection noticed that the power adapter was damaged.” Tom’s Hardware reached out to Nvidia for a statement, and got the following response: “We are investigating the reports. We are in contact with the first owner and will be reaching out to the other for additional information.”

Interestingly enough, this news is also somewhat similar to the Nvidia Titan Ada GPU that we had covered before, which suffered from a melting issue with PSUs. As of right now, there have only been two such reports where the cable actually melted, at least on Reddit that is. However, we can see that the graphics card maker is already working on finding the root cause of this issue. There is a chance that this was just a very unlucky incident, or perhaps the cables were mounted incorrectly, or other issues with the PC setup. Although, this is just speculation at the moment so take it with a pinch of salt.

Apple Watch helps save a 12yr old girl from cancer

It appears that the Apple Watch is still helping save lives. This time around, the smartwatch helped in detecting cancer in a 12 year old girl, which helped in saving her life in time. So here are all of the details.

According to a new report, a 12 year old girl named Imani Miles had her life saved by the Cupertino based giant’s smart wearable product. She noticed that her Apple Watch was constantly notifying her about her abnormally high heart rate. So after she received several alerts, the girl’s mother Jessica Kitchen felt that something was strange and possibly dangerous. So she took Imani Miles to the hospital for a check up. Here, Imani went through surgery for her appendicitis, but this wasn’t the end of her worries.

Apple

The doctors treating the girl found that her appendix had a neuroendocrine tumor. This tumor is rare to find in a person this young, but the medical experts discovered that the tumor had migrated into the other parts of Imani’s body. So, the doctors quickly rushed her into surgery that was necessary to remove cancer from her body. Fortunately, the surgery went well and Imani recovered from the surgery.

Her mother stated that if it weren’t for the Apple Watch she would likely have gone to the hospital much later. By this time, the cancer could’ve had worse impacts on the girl and possibly even been fatal. This isn’t the first time the device has saved lives and we can definitely expect more people to be saved by this piece of modern day technology in the future as well.

ISRO LMV3 rocket launched with 36 OneWeb Satellites

Earlier this week, ISRO announced that it had successfully launched the LMV3 rocket, which carried a payload that consisted of 36 satellites from OneWeb. The launch was carried out by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).

In other words, the total payload had a total weight of 5,796 kilograms.

ISRO

These satellites were launched to a circular low earth orbit of around 601 kilometers with an 87.4 degree inclination. The separation of the satellites also involved a unique maneuver of the cryogenic stage to orientation and re-orientation. The entire process consisted of 9 phases and took around 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete. After this, OneWeb confirmed that it had started receiving signals from the satellites. The company also took to Twitter to announce the successful lift off and launch from ISRO and NSIL.

Notably, this marks the 14th launch from OneWeb, which brings its satellite constellation size to 462. This means that it has reached 70 percent of its goal to launch around 648 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites fleet that will deliver high peed low latency connectivity across the globe. OneWeb now only needs to go through four more launches to achieve its global coverage plan by 2023. Microsoft Surface Duo & Duo 2 receive Android 12L, with Windows 11 inspired design

Microsoft has finally began rolling out the Android 12L update for its Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 models. The devices have started receiving the major software upgrade, which also brings a hint of design philosophy inspired by Windows 11.

For those unaware, the Android 12L variant of the Android operating system is special since it is built specifically for larger screened devices like the Surface Duo series or other foldable smartphones. The Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 both feature a dual display design, so unlike a foldable phone, they do not feature a crease or have flexible screens that bend from a hinge mechanism. Although, one can rotate the two displays at angles ranging from 0 degrees to 360 degrees. This essentially makes the Duo models akin to an actual book.

Microsoft

Now, the American tech giant has announced the new update for the two Surface Duo models on its official blog. With the Android 12L update, the company also offers Surface Duo users the dynamic theming engine. This basically lets you change the color across the system based on the color of the main wallpaper that is chosen by the user. Furthermore, four new wallpapers will also be rolled out in the update, which will align with the new Windows 11 desktop backgrounds to “bring the vibrancy of Windows to Android.”

Microsoft also added that the Android 12L update will seek to improve the user experience through a more responsive and inclusive experience that also brings more cutomizability options as well. This includes a new refreshed UI that can dynamically adapt to users’ wallpaper, new fluid animations, and additional accessibility tools. The new update also offers updated conversations and Photo widgets as well as a privacy dashboard, which can track apps that use your camera, microphone, and location access over a 24 hour period. So for those interested, you can install the Android 12 update on your Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 by going to Settings > System > System update.

The news arrives from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who shared the information on his Power On newsletter. Reportedly, the Cupertino based giant is still working on the first Mac Pro mode that features Apple Silicon, which is expected to launch with the “M2 Ultra” and “M2 Extreme” chipsets that are rumored to be around two to four times faster than the M2 Max model. Unfortunately, Gurman did not reveal any other finer details regarding this new Mac mini model. Although, he did state that the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini PCs will launch sometime “within the next few months.”

However, he also added that the new Mac Pro will not be launching until the next year. This news is in line with our previous report. Ulefone Armor 17 Pro is a ‘luxury’ rugged smartphone with 108MP camera, Helio G99 SoC & 120Hz FHD+ display

Ulefone is one of the rising brands in the rugged smartphone market and is known to manufacture some of the most quirky devices in the segment. Be it the world’s loudest smartphone or a rugged smartphone with an in-built TWS earbuds holder. The brand has now launched the Ulefone Armor 17 Pro, which it claims is a luxury rugged smartphone. So, let’s check out what makes it special.

Usually, rugged devices primarily focus on being tough as nails with various professional- or military-grade ingress-protection ratings. Making the devices tough usually comes at the expense of features one would usually expect from a modern smartphone. However, the Armor 17 Pro does not make this compromise as it still features a 6.58-inch LCD display with FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2408) and 120Hz refresh rate. The display has a water-drop notch that houses a 16MP camera system.

The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, while the body of the device boasts the traditional rugged IP68/69K/MIL-STD-810G certifications. Under the hood, the smartphone has the MediaTek Helio G99, which is a 6 nm-based chipset with improved energy efficiency. The device has a 5,380mAh battery, which is not among the highest capacities one could get on a rugged device, however, it has 66W fast charging and 15W wireless charging which are quite rare features in this segment.

For optics, the device features a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor paired with Ulefone’s night vision sensors. The device has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and virtual RAM expansion is possible up to 5GB. This configuration of the Armor 17 Pro has a price tag of US$499.98 and can be purchased via AliExpress.

Apple releases iPadOS 16 with Stage Manager, Weather app, and more

A few weeks ago, Apple announced the latest iPadOS 16 along with iOS 16 and other newer versions of the operating systems powering the range of devices from the brand. While the iOS 16 was rolled out sometime back, the release of iPadOS 16 was delayed.

Now, in line with the previous reports, the Cupertino-based technology giant has rolled out the latest iPadOS 16 version for the iPad models, and it is now available for eligible devices.

Apple iPadOS 16.1

While the company has not confirmed this, reports indicate that the official release of the iPadOS 16 was delayed because the company needed more time to polish some of the features, like Stage Manager for multitasking. It’s noteworthy that the company has skipped the public release of the iPadOS 16 and has released the iPadOS 16.1.

The rollout of the latest version of the software for its tablets comes at a time when the company is now all set to start shipping the newly announced 10th generation iPad and the iPad Pro models powered by the M2 processor.

The highlight of this new version is the revamped multitasking experience called Stage Manager, which automatically organizes apps and windows and allows users to overlap windows of different sizes, drag and drop windows, and much more. It also comes with new Messages features, a suite of smart tools for Mail, iCloud Shared Photo Library, new features for Safari, Weather application, and more.

Apple generally rolls out the software update to everyone instead of releasing it in phases, so if you have an eligible device, then you should get a prompt to update the device, or you can manually check for the new update from the Settings app.

The most powerful Qualcomm chipsets are the most common ones inside the best flagship killers, but now, there is also a flagship killer with the best MediaTek chipset. With this device, you can get amazing high-end specifications at a very affordable price if compared to other top-tier flagships, but is it really the best flagship killer you can buy in the actual market? A lot of people are asking this question because there are several devices in the same price range. One of the best is undoubtedly the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition released in July and is now available at more interesting street prices. Design

The most original and interesting design of this comparison belongs to the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition. It comes in a special color option that is reminiscent of a travel trunk. This color option has a rear side made of eco leather and a frame made of aluminum. There is also a variant with a ceramic back. It is one of the most beautiful phones released this year and we recommend it if the design is one of your main priorities. Instead, the iQOO Neo 7 is nothing special if we talk about aesthetics. It is beautiful with its narrow bezels and punch hole placed centrally, but for the rest, it is not so different from the other devices sold in a similar price range and even from more affordable low cost devices.

Display

The displays of these two phones are very similar. We are talking about high-end panels, not the best ones out there, but still great displays. The iQOO Neo7 has an AMOLED panel with a diagonal of 6.78 inches, a Full HD Plus resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ certification, a peak brightness of 1,500 nits, and an in-display fingerprint reader. The Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition has an OLED panel as well, with a diagonal of 6.7 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, HDR10+ certification, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and an in-display fingerprint reader. Both displays are able to show up to one billion colors, but the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition is the only one with stereo speakers, so it offers a better audio experience.

Specs & Software

The iQOO Neo7 and the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition are two phones with a similar level of performance, but with different chipsets. The iQOO Neo 7 has a Dimensity 9000+ mobile platform, actually the most advanced processor by MediaTek. It is a processor built with a 4 nm production process and sporting an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X2 CPU running at a max frequency of 3.2 GHz, three Cortex A710 CPUs running at 2.85 GHz, and four Cortex A510 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, as well as a Mali G710 MC10 CPU. Alongside this chipset, there are up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. With the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition, you get a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform running at a max frequency of 3.19 GHz, up to 12 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Note that the iQOO Neo 7 ships with Android 13 out of the box, while the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition runs Android 12.

Camera

The Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition wins the camera comparison thanks to the presence of better secondary sensors. Indeed, it has a 50 MP ultrawide camera (instead of a bad 8 MP shooter like the one of the iQOO Neo7) and a 3 MP microlens with 40x magnification.

Battery

The battery capacities are the same: 5000 mAh, and you can get more or less the same battery life with these two phones. But the iQOO Neo7 charges quicker thanks to 120W fast charging (instead of just 100W).

Price

The iQOO Neo 7 carries a starting price of €380 or $380, while the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition starts from $560 or €560 (but in a different market). Which one would you pick?
