OPPO reportedly working on two new foldable smartphones; could launch later this year

OPPO launched its first foldable smartphone a couple of years back in the form of the OPPO Find N and now the company is working on the next generation of foldable smartphones that should launch soon.

As per the latest report from Digital Chat Station, OPPO is working on two new foldable smartphones, one with a clamshell fold design and another with a book-like folding design.

The report adds that the upcoming smartphone with a clamshell folding design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip lineup, has been codenamed Dragonfly but the actual name of the smartphone has not been decided yet.

The phone will reportedly come with a display offering a 120Hz refresh rate and the company is focusing on reducing the thickness of the foldable smartphone as well as adopting a new hinge structure.

On the other hand, OPPO is also working on a successor of the Find N smartphone which will reportedly be named OPPO Find N 2 and will offer a display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will also come optimized for weight and thickness compared to the current model.

It is also being claimed that the company will be launching a series of high-performance flagship smartphones in the second half of this year and the devices will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon and MediaTek Dimensity processors.

Nubia Red Magic 7S, 7S Pro specifications revealed via TENAA listing

Reports have revealed that Nubia is working on the Red Magic 7S series of gaming smartphones. A few weeks ago, the Red Magic 7S with the NX679S model number and the Red Magic 7S Pro with the NX709S model number were spotted on the 3C certification platform in China. Both devices have now received approval from the TENAA authority of China. Here is all the information about the Red Magic 7S duo that has surfaced through their TENAA certifications.

Red Magic 7S, 7S Pro specifications (rumored)

The Red Magic 7S and 7S Pro are both fitted with a 6.8-inch OLED panel that offers a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The Red Magic 7 and 7 Pro, which debuted earlier this year, supported a 120Hz and a 165Hz refresh rate, respectively. Hence, it is likely that their updated editions will also offer the same refresh rate.

Red Magic 7
Red Magic 7 Pro

It looks like the same 3.2GHz octa-core processor powers the Red Magic 7S and 7S Pro. In all likelihood, both devices may come equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. Both devices are expected to arrive with 8 GB / 12 GB / 16 GB / 18 GB of RAM.

The Red Magic 7S will come with 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB of storage, whereas the Pro variant will come with an additional storage option of 1 TB. The duo will come preloaded with the Android 12 OS and Red Magic UI.

The back panels of both phones will feature a 64-megapixel triple camera unit. The TENAA listings mention that both phones have an 8-megapixel front camera. However, the Pro model could be equipped with a 16-megapixel under-display selfie snapper like the Red Magic 7 Pro. The vanilla model will feature a 4,500mAh battery, whereas the Pro model will house a 5,000mAh battery. Both phones were spotted with a 165W charger at 3C. However, it is likely that vanilla may offer slightly slower charging speeds as compared to the Pro model.

Amazfit Band 7 fitness tracker leaks online; expected to cost around $50

Amazfit is known for its smartwatches but the company also has a lineup of fitness trackers and the company is now gearing up to launch its next-generation fitness tracker in the market — Amazfit Band 7.

As the name itself indicates, the Amazfit Band 7 will launch a successor to the Amazfit Band 5 that was launched a couple of years ago. Now, a new report about the features and specifications of the device has surfaced online.

Amazfit Band 7 Leak

The Amazfit Band 7, which is codenamed Bari, has some similarities with the Redmi Smart Band Pro in terms of design. It will come with a 4.7-inch AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 194 x 368 pixels and 500 nits peak brightness.

The device will also have a PPG heart rate sensor with support for 24/7 heart rate tracking along with sleep and stress monitoring. Similar to other such devices, when paired with a smartphone, it can show notifications, along with other basic functions.

It is said to come with support for more than 100 sports modes with support for automatic workout detection. As per the report, the device will pack 8MB of RAM and 128MB of storage and it can be paired with smartphones running Android 5.0 or iOS 10.0 and above using Bluetooth 5.1.

The fitness tracker is reportedly 5ATM water-resistant and weighs 28 grams. It is powered by a 230mAh battery that can provide a battery life of up to 18 days on regular usage and nine days on heavy usage. The device is expected to get launched later this year and could be priced at around $50.

Apple’s upcoming AirPods Pro 2 earbuds to reportedly come with a USB-C port

Apple has been working on the next-generation AirPods Pro for a couple of years now and reports indicate that the company is expected to launch the Apple AirPods Pro 2 in the third or fourth quarter of this year.

In the latest development, it is being claimed that the upcoming flagship wireless earbuds from the company will come with a USB Type-C for charging instead of the company’s proprietary Lightning port.

Apple AirPods Pro
Apple AirPods Pro

The new report also sheds light on some of the other upgrades that are expected to come with the new Apple AirPods Pro 2. It will reportedly be powered by the new System-in-Package (SIP) for the H1 chip with support for improved adaptive noise cancellation, EQ, Spatial Audio, and Audio Sharing.

The USB Type-C charging case for the earbuds will also come with support for fast charging but exact details are not yet known. There’s also a possibility of some new sensors making their way to the device, such as temperature monitoring and heart rate monitoring.

Earlier, there were reports as well as leaked images related to the second-generation AirPods Pro with a few changes to the design. Now, it is being claimed that the upcoming earbuds won’t come with the so-called stemless design.

The earbuds will come with the skin-detect sensor that was debuted with the recently launched Apple AirPods 3, which provides a more accurate way to discern if the earbuds are actually in a user’s ears or not. It works by detecting water content in the wearer’s skin.

It is also being claimed that the earbuds may support Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) and if that happens, then it would be the first TWS earphones from the Cupertino-based tech giant to support lossless audio.

Tecno Spark 8P with Helio G85, 18W flash charging launching in India soon

Tecno has confirmed via a tweet that it would be launching the Spark 8P in India soon. The Tecno Spark 8P was first launched in October last year and it features an impressive specs lineup while retaining the affordable pricing Tecno phones are known for.

The company’s teaser detailed some of the device’s specs and shows undoubtedly that the device will be the same as the model launched last year. The series of teasers show the device will pack a 50MP main camera at the rear in a triple camera setup. The device will also come with 4GB RAM as well as 3GB of virtual RAM bumping the available RAM to 7GB.

For reference, the Tecno Spark 8P packs a 6.6-inch LCD screen with a Full HD+ resolution, an aspect ratio of 20:9, and support for a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone packs a punch-hole design with the opening housing an 8MP selfie camera. Tecno Spark 8P

Under the hood, the Spark 8P features a MediaTek Helio G70 chipset but the Indian variant will be powered by a Helio G85 chipset as per the teaser. The G85 is the same chip used on the Pova 2, the Spark 8 Pro, and a host of other phones that have received good reviews.

Finally, the 5000mAh battery has support for 10W charging on the global variant but India’s variant will come with a cool 18W fast charging support. Last year’s model runs on Android 11 out of the box but there is no word yet if this version will run on Android 12 from the go.

We expect the company to roll out the launch itinerary soon.

Xiaomi is all set to take off the covers of the Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro, and 12S Ultra on July 4 in China. Rumors are rife that the 12S Pro will arrive in two CPU variants, powered by Snapdragon and Dimensity chipsets. So far, the company has confirmed that the 12S Pro will arrive with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip onboard. It appears that Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun has seemingly teased the Dimensity edition of the device. Xiaomi has also confirmed a few of the Xiaomi 12S Pro’s most important features.

In the above screenshot, Lei Jun can be seen talking about the Dimensity 9000+, which was announced last month (June). It is believed that the Xiaomi phone with the 2206122SC model number will debut as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 variant of the Xiaomi 12S Pro. Another Xiaomi phone with a 2207122MC model number could be the Dimensity edition of the 12S Pro.

While there is no official confirmation yet, it can be assumed based on Jun’s Weibo post that it could be powered by the Dimensity 9000+ SoC. The Chinese manufacturer may confirm the Dimensity variant directly through tomorrow’s launch event.

Xiaomi has released a couple of Weibo posts to confirm the key features of the Xiaomi 12S Pro. The company has confirmed that the device will be equipped with a 6.73-inch AMOLED LTPO panel that offers 2K resolution, a 1Hz–120Hz refresh rate, 522ppi pixel density, and 1,500 nits of brightness.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra leaked posters emerge to reveal final design

Xiaomi 12S Ultra is all set to launch on July 4 in China alongside other flagships, such as the Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro. While the company has revealed the design of the Xiaomi 12S / 12S Pro, it is yet to confirm the appearance of the 12S Ultra. A couple of recent leaks have attempted to reveal its design, but none of them appears to have been completely accurate. Fresh posters of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra that are now doing the rounds on Weibo have finally revealed its design.

As can be seen in the new images, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra will be sporting a leather back. Rumors are rife that it may also come in a ceramic back variant. The top portion of the back panel houses a large camera block. It houses a round-shaped camera module but lacks a secondary screen, which was made available on the predecessor model.

Xiaomi recently confirmed that the Xiaomi 12S Ultra will be equipped with a 1-inch Sony IMX989 primary camera. The main camera seems to be at the centre of the camera module. Below it is a telephoto periscope zoom lens. The Leica branding can be seen at the top-left corner of the camera block.

An ultrawide lens appears to be on the left side of the main snapper. On its right side is a dual-LED flash unit. Rumors have it that it will feature a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS support, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 48-megapixel telephoto periscope camera with 5x optical zoom.

However, its CAD renders, which appeared in the previous month, revealed that it will be sporting an AMOLED with a punch-hole design and curved edges. The 12S Ultra is expected to arrive with specs like a 6.7-inch AMOLED QHD+ 120Hz display, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, a 20-megapixel front camera, and a 4,800mAh battery with 67W fast charging and 50W wireless charging support.

Recently, Redmi India held a promotional campaign in major cities of India to celebrate the third anniversary of its Redmi K20 series by conducting an exclusive screening of the movie, Top Gun: Maverick. A new kind of flagship killer is having great success in the global market. We are not talking about devices with top-tier hardware, but they are powerful enough to please gamers and power users. We are talking about devices such as the POCO F4 and the Realme GT Neo 3T. They belong to the latest high-end series from their respective brands, but they are not the most powerful variants of these series. You can find them in the global market for less than €400 and they offer very interesting specifications for that price range. This is a comparison between the specifications of the POCO F4 and the Realme GT Neo 3T which will help you discover all the main differences between these two phones.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES 5G, dual SIM, IP53 certification 5G, dual SIM

Design

The Realme GT Neo 3T wins the design comparison because it comes with a very interesting design. One of its color variants has a checkered texture on the rear side which reminds me of Vans shoes. There is also a special edition of this phone dedicated to Dragon Ball Z: its design is similar to Kakarot’s clothes. The Realme GT Neo 3T is definitely one of the most original phones out there and its design is perfect for young people and for those who search for a fresh look. The POCO F4 is less interesting when it comes to the look, but it is built with more premium materials. It has a glass back instead of a plastic back and it sports the IP53 certification thanks to which it is water resistant and splash resistant. Both the phones have flat punch-hole displays, but the punch hole of the former is placed in the upper left corner, while the latter POCO has a centered punch hole.

Display

On paper, it seems like the POCO F4 has a superior display. It is an AMOLED panel with a diagonal of 6.67 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and Dolby Vision support. This display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and it has a peak brightness of up to 1,300 nits. The Realme GT Neo 3T has the same specifications with the exception of Dolby Vision, but it adds an in-display fingerprint reader, while the POCO device has a side-mounted biometric sensor. Both the handsets feature stereo speakers providing a good audio experience. Do you prefer having better image quality or an in-display fingerprint scanner on your phone?

Specs & Software

The POCO F4 and the Realme GT Neo 3T are powered by the same processor. We are talking about the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform by Qualcomm built at 7 nm. It is an octa-core chipset composed of one Kryo 585 core running at a max frequency of 3.2 GHz, three Kryo 585 cores running at 2.42 GHz, and four Kryo 585 running at 1,8 GHz. So always the same cores, but with a different frequency, paired with the Adreno 650 GPU. The Snapdragon 870 is a good chipset for gaming and advanced usage scenarios, but there are a few mobile platforms providing higher performance in 2022. The difference between the hardware departments of these two phones is the memory configuration: the POCO F4 provides up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of native UFS 3.1 storage, while the Realme GT Neo 3T has just 8 GB of RAM in its high-end configuration. Both the phones run Android 12 out of the box with customized user interfaces on top.

Camera

On the rear side, these two phones come with the same sensors: we are talking about a 64 MP main camera, an 8 Mp ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro shooter. But the POCO F4 wins the camera phone comparison because it has an additional element you can often find on high-end phones only: optical stabilization, also known as OIS. It also comes with a better 20 MP front camera. So if you need the best camera phone, now you know what to choose. But a lot of people choosing phones of this kind do not care about the camera a lot and none of these phones is a real camera phone.

Battery

The biggest advantage of the Realme GT Neo 3T over the POCO F4 is the battery capacity: its battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh and its battery life is way longer than the POCO F4. Further, it supports a better charging technology: 80W fast charging instead of just 67W. The POCO F4 has a 4500 mAh battery and 67W fast charging.

Price

In the European market, the POCO F4 and the Realme GT Neo 3T are available with prices starting from €399/$416. The POCO offers better cameras, while the Realme has a bigger battery with faster charging. Which one would you pick?

Xiaomi POCO F4 vs Realme GT Neo 3T: PRO and CONS

  • Better rear camera
  • Higher-end memory configuration
  • IP53 certification

Asus ROG Phone 6 series Roundup – Design, specs & more

Asus has confirmed that the ROG Phone 6 series will launch on July 5 in the global market. Like the ROG Phone 5 series, the upcoming series will also come in three variants – ROG Phone 6, ROG Phone 6 Pro, and the ROG Phone 6 ultimate.

So far, teasers and leaks have revealed the design along with almost all of the specifications of the smartphone. So here’s what we can expect from the July 5 launch event.

Design & display

Design-wise, the ROG Phone 6 series is expected to be quite similar to the previous year’s devices. However, leaked renders have revealed some minor changes to the back panel. Firstly, the device appears to house a more prominent camera module that houses three lenses and an LED Flash. The back panel also gets a second screen that is positioned vertically.

The right side of the smartphone will feature the power button, a volume rocker, and AirTriggers on both ends. On the left side, the devices will likely house a USB-C charging port and the SIM-trey. Coming to the bottom, the devices are expected to bring another USB-C port for charging, however, there is no confirmation if the devices will offer a 3.5mm audio jack.

On the front, the ROG Phone 6 is revealed to feature a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel with 165Hz refresh rate and an in-display fingerprint scanner for security. The renders of the vanilla model also reveal slim side bezels along with a noticeable chin and forehead.

Specs

Coming to the hardware under the hood, the devices are confirmed to have the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. Recent Geekbench listings have revealed that the vanilla ROG Phone 6 and the ROG Phone 6 Ultimate offer almost identical performance, so the only difference between the base model, the Pro model, and the ultimate model will likely be the RAM and storage options along with some extra some additional sensors.

ASUS ROG Phone 6 Devilcase Guardian Lite Plus case
ASUS ROG Phone 6 Devilcase Guardian Lite Plus case

The base variant is expected to offer up to 16GB of RAM while the Ultimate model will offer 18GB of RAM. The devices will also offer up to 512 GB of built-in storage. The devices will feature a 6,000mAh dual-cell battery with 65W fast charging support and will run on Android 12-based ROG UI out of the box. Lastly, the ROG Phone 6 series will be the first among gaming smartphones to offer IPX4 splash resistance.

Camera

For optics, the vanilla model is tipped to pack a triple camera setup on the rear consisting of a 64MP main camera accompanied by an ultra-wide camera and macro sensor. On the front, we will likely get a 12MP selfie snapper. The camera setup is expected to be the same across the entire lineup.

Accessories

A couple of recent leaks have surfaced showcasing the new snap-on cooler and a gamepad designed especially for the ROG Phone 6 series.

The gamepad will attach to both ends of the device transforming it into a hand-held console like the Nintendo Wii. It can also be used as a proper controller for the phone and other devices using the Bluetooth connectivity mode.

The snap-on cooler will likely be called the AeroActive Cooler 6. It is designed to help with reducing the overall running temperature of the smartphone during long gaming sessions by increasing the heat dissipation capability of the back panel.

Realme withdraws from OPPO Mall, brand independence believed to be the reason

According to reports by ITHome, Chinese smartphone brand Realme has allegedly been removed from the OPPO Mall. OPPO Mall (earlier known as Huantai Mall app) is an e-commerce-based online store that was dubbed the official store of OPPO, OnePlus, and Realme in China.

If popular leakster Digital Chat Station is to be believed, Realme has plans to open an independent e-commerce shopping mall for its devices. This has come as a surprise as Realme is affiliated with OPPO and OnePlus, and was founded in August 2018. Realme and OnePlus had their own special sections in the OPPO Mall, which served as a dedicated e-commerce platform. Now, not even a single Realme product can be found in the OPPO Mall. Furthermore, the brand section of Realme has also been removed from the app, while OnePlus has not been affected whatsoever.

The link that opened the Realme smartphones section in the OPPO Mall now shows the following notification- “This product has been removed from the shelves, let’s browse other products”.  Meanwhile, the Realme official mall can be accessed normally.

Realme’s departure from the OPPO mall this time should signal a stronger brand performance. Previously, the market had a preference for a handful of Realme products, and this preference has significantly increased. The Realme GT2 Master Explorer Edition is now scheduled to be released in July as well. The smartphone, which has a 6.7-inch 2412 x 1080p 120Hz AMOLED screen, weighs 199g, is 8.2mm thick, and has a 4880mAh (nominal 5000mAh) battery inside.

Optics of the device feature a front 16MP, rear 50MP + 50MP + 2MP, and 100W rapid charge. The Snapdragon 8+ mobile platform is anticipated to be included with the Realme GT2 Master Explorer Edition.

Robotaxis cause disruption in traffic in San Fransisco after abruptly malfunctioning

On Tuesday night, in the United States of America, several autonomous Cruise robotaxis disrupted traffic in San Francisco, California after they abruptly stopped operating.

The incident’s specifics were discussed on Reddit (and picked up by TechCrunch) and serve as an example of how driverless cars are still in the early stages of development in practical applications.

Although Cruise, a company supported by GM and Honda, has been testing its technology in San Francisco since February, it didn’t begin offering a paid robotaxi service until last week. The vehicles operate with some limitations, but have no human safety driver at all. When the weather is good, they only provide rides on ‘certain streets’ between the hours of 10 PM and 6 AM, and they are only permitted to go at a speed of 30 mph.

At least five vehicles are seen halted on the street in photos of the driverless roadblock. According to the Redditor who posted the images, the incident happened about midnight.

In response to TechCrunch, a representative for Cruise acknowledged the incident but made no mention of why it occurred or whether it would happen again in the future.

The spokesman explained, “We encountered a problem earlier this week that caused several of our trucks to cluster. While it was resolved and no passengers were impacted, we apologize to anyone who was inconvenienced.”

This incident involving Cruise’s driverless technology is not the first. A police officer attempted to stop a Cruise robotaxi earlier this year, ostensibly because the vehicle’s headlights were out at night. Later, Cruise claimed “human error” was to blame for the tragedy.

Redditor seansinha who shared the pictures said, “The first thing I tell my coworker is that they’re planning to kill us. It was a very bizarre occurrence. The cars had to be removed by hand by arriving humans. For so long obstructing the street, Cruise ought to be fined to shit. They even made it, so the street sweeper couldn’t hit an entire block.”

He also mentioned that the Cruise employees showed up to the incident “in twenty minutes” but were unsuccessful in actually moving the cars in good time.

Recently, China’s Pony.ai also announced its plans to begin commercial driverless robotaxi service in San Fransisco. It remains to be seen if this incident will impact its launch.

Xiaomi 12S series will feature Eco-Friendly Silicone Leather

Xiaomi is going to announce the new Xiaomi 12S series at a conference on July 4. The source cited that the new series of devices will feature an eco-friendly leather material at the back, which is bound to be comfortable to the touch and majorly resistant to dirt. This is the first time Xiaomi has developed a smartphone with environment-friendly silicone leather, which feels comfortable and textured.

According to the source, the material prolongs the device’s durability by a considerable margin, as it is easy to clean and is resistant to peels and cuts. Additionally, the company customized the texture of the calfskin head layer, making the feel of the device more skin-friendly and offering a better grip. This comes at a time when the smartphone industry is leaning more towards glass-back smartphones that are extremely slippery and tough to keep neat and clean.

Xiaomi 12S Series Teaser

Xiaomi is believed to be rolling out three models in the 12S series lineup – the Xiaomi 12S, the Xiaomi 12S Pro, and the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The specifications of all three smartphones have been revealed in previous roundups. The top variant is said to be sporting the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, this upgrade has been made citing the delay in the launch of the device and the introduction of the new cutting-edge Snapdragon SoC. The flagship device might also feature a rectangular camera configuration with the Leica branding. The front of the device is likely to be almost bezel-less and will also have a punch-hole camera.

The display is expected to be a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The device’s fingerprint scanner is embedded under the display. The device also features Harman Kardon speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and more.

Lastly, the device is expected to feature a 4800mAh battery pack supporting 67W fast wired charging. Additionally, it is capable of being wirelessly charged at 50W and supports reverse wireless charging at 10W.
