Leak suggests Oppo Reno 8 Lite 5G could be same as Reno 7 Lite 5G aka F21 Pro 5G

Oppo is known for selling its F series phones under Reno Z and Reno Lite brandings in different markets. This year’s F21 Pro 5G is sold under Oneplus Nord N branding as well. Additionally, new renders have now leaked suggesting that the smartphone will also go by yet another Reno Lite device.

Oppo Reno 8 Lite 5G Render Leak

Twitter user @_snoopytech_ has shared renders of alleged Oppo Reno 8 Lite 5G, a handset that’s yet to go official. Going by the images, the phone looks the same as the Oppo Reno 7 Lite 5G, which is nothing but a rebranded Oppo F21 Pro 5G.

This very same smartphone is sold under two more names. It goes by the name of Oppo Reno 7 Z 5G and Oneplus Nord N20 5G.

If these renders are legit, then for the first time, Oppo would be releasing the same device as two generations of smartphones. We are as confused as you are. Probably, the Reno 8 Lite 5G will launch in the markets where the Reno 7 Lite 5G did not.

The company has confirmed that the Axon 40 series smartphones come with a display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz multi-touch sampling rate. Further, it is also revealed that the phones will have support for IR remote control functions.

Recently, the Chinese company confirmed that the smartphones will come equipped with an independent security chip for hardware-level protection. In the camera department, the Axon 40 Pro will feature a 100-megapixel camera setup.

The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra smartphone was listed on a Chinese retailer and the listing had a render of the smartphone, giving us a clear look at the phone’s front panel and back panel for the first time since leaks and rumors started surfacing online.

Apple to reportedly use self-developed 5G modem chip for iPhone from next year

Apple is set to launch the next-generation iPhone 14 series later this year but reports about the iPhone models set to launch next year have also surfaced online. Now, we have got some more information about the iPhone 15 lineup.

As per the report, the Cupertino-based technology giant is set to ditch Qualcomm for the cellular modem and instead, the company will use its own self-developed 5G modem from next year, i.e. 2023.

This has been in the making for the past few years, since 2019 when the company acquired the majority of Intel‘s smartphone-modem business as well as a team of 2,200 employees.

Apple is also advertising around 140 open positions for the development and integration of cellular modem chips. The company is running these advertisements in San Diego, which is the hometown of Qualcomm.

While Qualcomm is currently supplying 100 percent of the cellular modems used in the iPhone lineup, the company’s CEO had said last year that it expects to supply 20 percent of the 5G models for the Apple iPhone from 2023.

The usage of a self-developed or proprietary 5G modem has several advantages for Apple. It will reduce the brand’s reliance on a third-party vendor. It will also help the company save costs on the components.

As the company makes its own chipset that powers iPhones, it can also integrate the modem in the A-series chips and tweak the configuration as Apple sees fit, including making it faster, more efficient, etc.

It’s noteworthy that analysts believe that Apple may struggle with designing, manufacturing, and testing the new cellular modem as it is a time-consuming process.

India accuses Xiaomi of forex violation; seizes assets worth $725 million

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is a central probe agency in India, has confirmed that it has seized assets worth around $725 million (₹5,500 crore) from Chinese giant Xiaomi over violations of the Indian foreign exchange law.

While the agency has taken action against Xiaomi Technology India Private Limited, the company, which does business in India under the Mi brand is claiming that all its operations “are firmly compliant” with the local laws and regulations.

Xiaomi Logo

The Enforcement Directorate has said that it had seized the sum from the bank accounts of Xiaomi Technology India Pvt. Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Xiaomi Inc., under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999.

The agency is claiming that the subsidiary had been making remittances to three foreign entities, one of which was a Xiaomi entity, “on the instructions” of its Chinese parent. It has been probing the company since February over alleged forex violations. It had also questioned Xiaomi’s Global Vice President Manu Kumar Jain last month, who was also the Indian head of the company.

In a statement, the agency said that “Xiaomi India procures completely manufactured mobile sets and other products from the manufacturers in India. Xiaomi India has not availed any service from the three foreign-based entities to whom such amounts have been transferred. Under the cover of various unrelated documentary façades created amongst the group entities, the company remitted this amount in the guise of royalty abroad which constitutes a violation of Section 4 of the FEMA. The Company also provided misleading information to the banks while remitting the money abroad.”

Countering the claims made by the Enforcement Directorate, Xiaomi India said in a statement that “these royalty payments that Xiaomi India made were for the in-licensed technologies and IPs used in our Indian version products. It is a legitimate commercial arrangement for Xiaomi India to make such royalty payments. However, we are committed to working closely with government authorities to clarify any misunderstandings.”

Last year, the premises of Xiaomi and a few other Chinese mobile manufacturing companies were raided across the country by the Income Tax Department on the charges of tax evasion. Xiaomi continues to lead the Indian smartphone market with around 22 percent market share in Q4 2021.

Redmi Note 11 vs Motorola Moto G52: Specs Comparison

The Motorola Moto G52 recently debuted in the Indian market after the previous launch in the European market with great specifications offered at a killer price. It is an amazing phone for those who do not need the 5G connectivity and want to save a lot of money while purchasing a new device. It is definitely one of the best competitors of the best-selling Redmi Note 11 by Xiaomi’s sub-brand. These two handsets have similar specs sheets, that is the reason why it is very hard to choose between them, especially for non-expert people. This comparison between the specifications of the Motorola Moto G52 and the Redmi Note 11 will clear your ideas in regards to the differences between these two devices.

Design

The design of the Motorola Moto G52 looks more suggestive because this phone is more similar to high-end devices in terms of aesthetics. Its rear side includes a camera island with the same color as the rest of the body, which is one of the main reasons why it looks so beautiful. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 11 is a more compact phone and it features the IP53 certification making it dust resistant and splash resistant. And despite being smaller and having the same battery capacity, the Redmi Note 11 is almost as thin as the Motorola Moto G52. Both the phones have narrow bezels and a punch hole placed centrally.

Display

One of the strongest points of these two handsets if we consider their price range is the display. Despite being budget phones, they are equipped with great AMOLED displays showing bright colors and deep blacks. Further, they come with a Full HD+ resolution (with 1080 x 2400 pixels) and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The specifications of these two displays are more or less the same, but the diagonals are different: the Redmi Note 11 has a smaller 6.43-inch panel, while the Motorola Moto G52 comes with a 6.6-inch display. They are OLED panels, but the fingerprint reader is not embedded under the display: it is side-mounted on the power key. Both the handsets feature good stereo speakers and they include a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Hardware/Software

With the Redmi Note 11 and the Motorola Moto G52, you get the same mobile platform: an octa-core Snapdragon 680 built at 6 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz, without the 5G connectivity. But the highest-end memory configurations are different: the Redmi Note 11 gives you up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage, while the Motorola Moto G52 stops at 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of non-UFS 2.2 native storage. You can expand the internal storage with a micro SD. However, there is an important pro of the Motorola budget phone: it ships with Android 12 out of the box, while the Redmi one comes with Android 11 out of the box, customized by MIUI 13.

Camera

If you are looking for a most complete rear camera setup, then you should go for the Redmi Note 11: it has the same 50 MP main sensor, the same 8 MP ultrawide camera, and the same 2 MP macro lens as the Motorola Moto G52, but it adds a 2 MP depth sensor. On the other hand, the Motorola low cost comes with a better selfie camera coming with a 16 MP resolution. Having a better selfie camera is definitely more important than having a 2 MP depth sensor.

Battery

These two phones come with the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. Even fast charging technologies are similar: you get 33W fast charging and 30W fast charging, respectively. But the Redmi Note 11 should last a bit more on a single charge because it has a smaller display with lower energy consumption.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 vs Motorola Moto G52: Price

You need at least Rs. 14,499 / $189 to purchase the Motorola Moto G52 in its base variant, and the Redmi Note 11 starts from the same listing price. So which one is the best? As you see, the differences are just marginal, so this is one of the few comparisons in which the result is a draw. Choose depending on your personal needs.

Xiaomi Accidentally Reveals Unannounced Redmi Pad 5G via its Surveys

After teasing the launch of the Redmi Note 12 series, it seems that smartphones may not be the only best-selling devices that Redmi plans to launch this year as a recent MIUI 13 survey published in China reveals that Redmi is currently developing a tablet of its own, the Redmi Pad 5G.

The survey was published last week on April 30 by Xiaomi on the Chinese MIUI Forum. The survey in question is to gather feedback on the latest update for Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 Magic Sharing service in China, a service to Apple’s Airdrop, which allowed Xiaomi devices to transfer files and data seamlessly across the MIUI ecosystem.

In the survey, there was a question regarding what Xiaomi tablet were they using and the answers had 4 options: the Xiaomi Pad 5, Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro, Redmi Pad 5G, and Others.

The Xiaomi Pad 5 and Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro are not surprising answers, as both these tablets were launched last year in 2021. But what is interesting is that Xiaomi added a new answer option, the Redmi Pad 5G.

Not much is known about the Redmi Pad 5G for the time being, as not many leaks or rumours regarding the device have been leaked online yet. But since the name has been confirmed, the Redmi Pad 5G could well still be in its development stages, and the launch for the device is expected to be sometime before the end of 2022.

Since the Redmi Pad 5G could still be long away from launch, if you urgently want yourself one of the best Android tablets of 2022, the Xiaomi Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro are solid options as both devices feature 11-inch 2.5K 120Hz displays with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 860 and 870 chipsets.

China-based customers can get the ThinkPad Neo 14 laptop starting at the equivalent of $1,150. It will come in black and silver aluminum chassis, but there are no indications yet that it could be available in select markets subsequently. The ThinkPad brand was formerly under IBM.
