All the Vivo launches from last week: Vivo X Fold, Vivo Pad, & Vivo X Note

Last week, Vivo entered three new product categories on the same day. They are foldable, tablet, and phablet. The first devices in these three categories are officially called Vivo X Fold, Vivo Pad, and Vivo X Note respectively.

All of them come with high-end features. The foldable and the phablet even carry premium price tags to match their specs. However, the tablet falls under the mid-range price segment like most flagship tablets from Chinese OEMs.

Let’s take a look at these products one by one.

Vivo’s first foldable, tablet, and phablet are finally here

1. Vivo’s First Foldable – Vivo X Fold

Vivo X Fold

At first look, one can clearly say that the Vivo X Fold is inspired by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. But Vivo’s foldable arrives with a better set of features, like dual ultra-sonic in-screen fingerprint sensors, an alert slider, and flagship-level cameras.

Though it is not water-resistant (IPX8) like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, it flaunts a vegan leather rear finish like the Huawei Mate X2 and its hinge is rated to last for 300,000 folds. It is also powered by a custom-made Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

Talking about screes, the primary internal foldable Samsung E5 AMOLED display measures 8.03-inch in size and has a 2K resolution, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 4:3.5 aspect ratio. On the other hand, the 6.53-inch external Samsung E5 AMOLED display has a resolution of FHD+, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 21:9 aspect ratio. Both the screens support HDR10+ standard and feature a punch-hole for a front-facing camera.

As far as cameras are concerned, there’s a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN5 primary sensor with OIS, a 12MP 2x telephoto shooter, an 8MP 5x periscope snapper with OIS, and a 48MP ultra-unit. These cameras are covered by Zeiss lens and T* coating. Finally, there are two 16MP front-facing cameras.

The device boots Android 12-based OriginOS Ocean. It is backed by a 4,600mAh battery with support for 66W fast wired charging, 50W fast wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging

The Vivo X Fold is priced at ¥8,999 and ¥9,999 for 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB memory configurations. It can be availed in either blue, black, or gray color options.

2. Vivo’s First Tablet – Vivo Pad

vivo Pad

Just like the tablets from Xiaomi and Oppo, the Vivo Pad is built around an LCD panel and a Qualcomm chipset. It features an 11-inch screen with a 2.5K resolution and up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The display supports Dolby Vision and Vivo Pen stylus input.

It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC coupled with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. It runs OriginOS HD based on Android 12. It is backed by an 8,040mAh battery with support for 44W fast charging.

The tablet comes with a dual-camera system on the rear comprising of a 13MP primary sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide unit. There’s also an 8MP front-facing camera and Dolby Atmos-supported quad speakers.

Other features include an aluminum build, support for a keyboard accessory via a magnetic connector, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and USB 3.1 (Type-C). The product arrives in three colors, such as blue, black, and white.

The Vivo Pad is priced at ¥2,499 and ¥2,999 for 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB memory variants respectively.

3. Vivo’s First Phablet – Vivo X Note

vivo X Note

The Vivo X Note is huge and has a good set of high-end features. However, it is not a replacement for the Samsung Galaxy Note series. Because it lacks support for a stylus.

The phablet sports a 7.0-inch Samsung E5 AMOLED display with a QHD+ resolution, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and LTPO 3.0 technology. The screen has a 21:10 aspect ratio, a large ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and its peak brightness can reach up to 1500 nits.

The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. It also comes with a Vivo V1 chip for image processing. On the software front, it boots OriginOS Ocean based on Android 12.

For photography and videography, it uses a quad-camera system on the rear with a Zeiss lens and T* coating. The setup includes a 50MP Samsung ISOCCELL GN1 primary sensor with OIS, a 48MP ultrawide unit, a 12MP 2x telephoto shooter, and an 8MP periscope 5x camera with OIS. At present, we are not sure if Xiaomi has plans to discontinue the original Xiaomi Civi after the launch of the Xiaomi Civi 1S. If that’s the case, then we can expect the upcoming smartphone to cost the same. If not, it could be priced a bit higher than the original model.

Apple iPhone production at risk over lockdowns in China

Recently, China implemented a local lockdown in Zhengzhou city. This region is close to an Apple iPhone manufacturing site, which has raised concern for the company’s smartphones supply chain.

Apple

According to a Bloomberg report, certain areas in the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone have been put under a quarantine zone. In other words, people living in the area are not allowed to move outside of their homes. Furthermore, this Airport Economy Zone is also where Foxconn’s largest iPhone assembly plant is located. For those unaware, the Taiwanese company is the Cupertino based giant’s largest iPhone supplier. So, the local lockdowns may very well impact the production of iPhones.

Notably, the lockdowns arrive after employees have begun going through mandatory COVID testing. Additionally, the country has been implementing lockdowns in an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus outbreaks. While the iPhones haven’t been directly affected so far, there is already a shortage issue with MacBooks. Apple’s other suppliers like Pegatron and Quanta had also recently halted production on the eastern side of China due to these quarantines.

Apple

Just last month, even Foxconn had been forced to stop production for several days from its Shenzhen facility after a city wide lockdown was imposed. And now, it seems that a similar incident might occur again due to rising cases of COVID. Although, it remains to be seen if production halts in this region as well.

Over the last couple of years, many smartphone brands have expanded their product line outside of just handsets. This includes OnePlus, which has also launched a number of different products apart from just phones. And now, a new leak has revealed that a Nord Watch smartwatch is also in the works.

The news arrives from a tweet from known tipster Mukul Sharma who spotted the Nord Watch moniker on the Chinese brand’s official Indian website. In other words, the company is working on a new wearable that will be under its “Nord” branding. This also implies that its launch might be just around the corner, or we might see official teasers of this product surface soon.

If this is true, then the new Nord Watch will be the first wearable product to be sold alongside Nord Buds. The latter are wireless earbuds that are set to be unveiled on April 28, along with the OnePlus 10R 5G and the Nord CE 2 Lite 5G in India. Unfortunately, apart from the brand name of the upcoming smartwatch, there so other finer details like specifications revealed on the official website. Although, the new smartwatch is expected to launch sometime in the second half of this year, alongside the OnePlus Nord 3.

OnePlus

Vivo X Note Unboxing & First Impression: 7-inch Phablets are back

Vivo launched three new products at the April 11th event: Vivo Pad, X Fold, and the X Note. Judging from the price and specifications, these three products should be the most powerful flagship products of Vivo in the first half of this year.

Today we bring you the Unboxing of the Vivo X Note.

vivo X Note unboxing featured 15

The shape of the box is the same as the previous Vivo phones, which are flat square boxes. When you open the box, there is only one phone lying quietly in the middle. The difference is that this time the accessories are stored in the drawer of the box. You need to pull out the drawer from the bottom to see all the accessories.

vivo X Note unboxing 13In addition to the charger and charging cable, a wired earphone is also included. Vivo should be one of the few manufacturers who still give away wired earphones in the box. There is also a vegan leather case in the same color as the phone, which is very well-made. If you buy it alone, it should cost you a lot of money. If you like to put UV tempered film on your new phone, Vivo also included some protective stickers to prevent UV glue from flowing into the earpiece or buttons to damage the phone.

At first, when I heard that the X Note was 7 inches, I was worried if it was too big for me. But after I saw the X Note, I realized it wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. Maybe you don’t know, but the phones we usually use are already in the 6.8-inch class, so 0.2 inches bigger isn’t a lot bigger.

vivo X Note unboxing featuredIf you’re used to using your current big-screen phone, then you should get used to this one pretty quickly, too. Although it’s very difficult to control with one hand, other flagship phones aren’t much better than it. Did I mention it has ultrasonic fingerprint recognition? It unlocks with a casual press on the lower middle part of the screen. We’ve seen this feature on the iQOO 9 Pro as well. I think a phone with a large screen should come with this fingerprint recognition, as it’s the best fingerprint recognition I’ve ever used.

There is a mute switch on the side, you have one less reason to buy a OnePlus phone. The X Note weighs 216g, but the huge body even makes it feel light. Aside from the size, the phone is well-made in terms of texture and built quality.

The advantage of a bigger phone is definitely a bigger screen. A 7-inch screen really allows you to immerse yourself in your world. I put the iPad Mini and the X Note together, and the X Note is only a little smaller than the iPad mini’s screen. And the X Note has a better screen, the 120Hz E5 OLED is one of the top screens out there. In the past, because the screen is too small, the split-screen function is rarely used. Now that the screen has reached 7 inches, the area for displaying and controlling two applications is bigger, and I believe more people will love this feature. After all, you buy a big-screen phone for a better video and multitasking experience, right?

vivo X Note unboxing 04

The rest of the X Note’s specs are very appealing as well. The processor is Snapdragon 8Gen1. Antutu gets 1.02 million points. The four cameras are the same sensor as the X70 Pro Plus, which also has a Zeiss coating. But there is no Micro Gimbal Stabilization on the ultra-wide camera, the 2x portrait lens has no OIS, and the aperture has become smaller. But this camera system is still very powerful, and you never have to worry about the photographic capabilities of Vivo’s flagship phones.

vivo X Note unboxing 03

What’s a bit disappointing is that it only has a 5000mAh battery. With such a large body, I thought it would have at least a 5500mAh battery. But the good news is that the charging power has been upgraded to 80w. Wireless charging has also been upgraded to 50w, but first, you have to buy Vivo’s wireless charging dock.

vivo X Note unboxing 02

The Vivo X Note is offered in three storage versions, starting at 6,000 RMB ($942), and it’s clearly a phone for people who like big-screen phones, with no obvious advantages or drawbacks. It meets the needs of business people who need to travel a lot. Honestly, I don’t know if you guys are interested in this phone, so it’s up to you to decide whether to make a full review video of the X Note or not.
