Mi 11 receives price cut after Mi 11 Ultra ahead of looming Xiaomi 12 Ultra launch

The Xiaomi Mi 11 flagship phone now has received a significant price cut in China after the Mi 11 Ultra, hinting even stronger toward a Xiaomi 12 Ultra launch. The discount is limited to the 8+128GB variant of the device and brings down its price from 3,499 Yuan (~$551) to 2,969 Yuan (~$467).

Of course, the reduced pricing is a China-exclusive thing as of now and looks limited to Xiaomi’s official online store.

xiaomi mi 11 price cut

There’s plenty of evidence pointing toward the Xiaomi 12 Ultra just being around the corner, although Xiaomi has yet to start teasing it, let alone make an official announcement. Most of its specifications have already been leaked and there’s even an alleged poster for the phone doing rounds, although we’d advise to take it with a pinch of salt.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 comes with a 6.81-inch 2K AMOLED display that’s curved from four sides and has a resolution of 3200×1440, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a touch sampling rate of 480Hz.

Under the hood, there’s the older but still very compelling Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship processor. For photography, you get 108MP primary, 13MP ultrawide, and 5MP telephoto-macro units, with the main camera supporting OIS.

The battery is sized 4,600mAh with support for 55W wired and 50W wireless flash charging.

In addition, while the Mi 11 will likely be first booting into MIUI 12 out of the box, it has already received the Android 12-based MIUI 13 update.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series being developed under “Project Diamond” codename

It’s barely been a month since the Galaxy S22 series hit the shelves but it looks like Samsung is already working on its next iteration. As spotted by Ross Young, the Korean company is now developing the Galaxy S23 series under the name of “Project Diamond.”

Rumors circulating on the internet seemed to have confused Project Diamond with the purported foldable device with the codename N4 set to launch this year. Galaxy Club, who first spilled the beans about N4, has now clarified that Project Diamond and N4 stand for different devices.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus Green Galaxy S22 Pink Gold

While details about the N4 are scarce, the device is expected to be yet another addition to Samsung’s foldable lineup currently comprised of two models. The Galaxy Z Flip3 comes in a clamshell form while the Galaxy Z Fold3 had a book-ish form factor, so it’s possible that the third addition may go for a different design.

The N4 has also been claimed to be sold in limited numbers, meaning it will most likely be an experimental, special model that’s not meant for everyone.

The Galaxy S22 series underwent development with a very similar moniker — Project Rainbow — with three models under it, namely R0, G0, and B0. The codenames for the Galaxy S23 series are unknown at the moment but we should be leaked soon enough.

The upcoming series will obviously be sold in large quantities though, unlike the mysterious N4 model.

OPPO to launch F21 Pro series in India on April 12, teases its design

OPPO has just officially announced the launch date for its highly anticipated F21 Pro series of smartphone. The company revealed the upcoming devices’ launch date of April 12 in a recent press release.

OPPO

In the new teaser, the Chinese smartphone maker also shared an image that showcased a bit of the F21 Pro series rear design. The model in the image is F21 Pro in Sunset Orange color variant that comes with OPPO’s industry first Fibreglass Leather design on the back, which doubles as a “frameless” battery cover. This helps makes the handset thin, light, and more durable as well. Notably, it took the brand’s engineers two years of research and refinement to chose lychee grain leather for the base material due to its “plush” feel.

As per official notes, the lychee grain leather material is waterproof and is also quite resistant to wear and tear. During lab trials, the material was subjected to extremes tests that involved rubbing the material with an alcohol soaked pad, a rubber eraser, and a denim swatch over 5,000, 10,000, and 200,000 times respectively. This was done to check its durability and ability to retain its color.

The F21 Pro 5G will be available in three color options, with the last one being the Rainbow Spectrum, which uses a ‘three layer texture and a two layer coating’ manufacturing process. Design

The most attractive design is definitely the one of the OPPO A76: it comes with the special OPPO Glow finish providing a matte back with brilliant elements. The Vivo Y32 is the thinnest, the most lightweight, and the most compact phone of the trio, but the OPPO A76 is more suggestive thanks to that finish. Note that OPPO A76 and Realme 9i come with a punch-hole design, while the Vivo Y32 comes with a less impressive waterdrop notch. All the phones are built with polycarbonate.

Display

If you are looking for the best display, then you should opt for the Realme 9i. It is the only device in the trio to sport the Full HD+ resolution with 1080 x 2412 pixels, and it even comes with a 90 Hz refresh rate. The OPPO A76 goes up to 90 Hz as well, but it has a lower HD+ resolution of 720p. The Vivo Y32 has an HD+ display as well, and its refresh rate is standard. All of these phones are equipped with side-mounted fingerprint readers and they all come with IPS panels, so do not expect amazing image quality.

Specs & Software

As already mentioned, all of these phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 mobile platform. It lacks the 5G connectivity, but it is built at 6 nm so it is very efficient, and it even provides good CPU performance thanks to Kryo 265 Gold cores running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz. You can get up to 8 GB of RAM with the Vivo Y32, while you get a max of 6 GB RAM with the OPPO A76 and the Realme 9i. That is the reason why Vivo Y32 wins the hardware comparison. On the other hand, the A76 comes with more advanced software: ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11.

Camera

The best camera is provided by the Realme 9i: it is the only one with a 50 MP main camera, while both its rival come with a disappointing 13 MP rear camera. Even the front camera is better: it is a good 16 MP front snapper against two 8 MP sensors found on the OPPO A76 and the Vivo Y32. The rear cameras of the OPPO and Vivo devices are exactly the same.

Battery

All these phones feature a 5000 mAh battery, so we expect a similar battery life in most of the scenarios. But given that Realme 9i has a Full HD+ display, its energy consumption is higher. The OPPO A76 and the Realme 9i provide faster charging speeds thanks to 33W fast charging, while the Vivo Y32 with 18W fast charging is the only one to support reverse charging.

Price

The OPPO A76 is priced at Rs. 17,499 / $231 in India, the Realme 9i starts from Rs. 12,990 / $172, and the Vivo Y32 will sell for Rs. 16,990 / $225. The Realme 9i wins the comparison thanks to a better display and a superior camera.

Vivo X80 to have Sony IMX886 primary sensor

A few weeks back, rumors revealed that a Vivo X80 phone will support the new Sony IMX8-series sensor. However, there wasn’t any clue about the exact sensor and its type. Now, the tipster @BaldPanda has revealed some details about this sensor enticing us even more for its official release.

The tipster reveals that the Vivo X80 will come with a Sony IMX886 main lens. The sensor will be 1/1.56 inches and will adopt an RGBW arrangement. Unfortunately, the tipster hasn’t revealed the pixels of this sensor on the phone, but it is expected to be more than 50MP.

Also, we aren’t sure about the other lenses on the phone. If we go by the standard setup, the phone may have ultra-wide and telephoto sensors as secondary and tertiary lenses. The camera is also expected to be backed by the Vivo V1 Image Signal Processor, just like the predecessor.

Other than the cameras, this time, the Vivo X80 series will have the X80 and X80 Pro. There are slim chances of the brand continuing the Plus model as the company is currently teasing the Vivo X Fold as the top-end model.

Vivo X80

The Vivo X80, X80 Pro, and X Fold were spotted on TENAA recently. The X80 duo has a 6.78-inch display with FHD+ and QHD+ resolution, respectively. The X Fold has a 6.53-inch FHD+ panel.

The Vivo X80 Pro is expected to come powered by the Dimensity 9000 SoC, while the X Fold is said to have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The X80 Pro packs a 4,700mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging. The X Fold will get a 4,600mAh battery with 120W or 80W fast charging.

OnePlus 10 Pro in North America will support only 65W fast charging

OnePlus has scheduled to launch the OnePlus 10 Pro on March 31 in India, Europe, and North America. Ahead of its launch, the smartphone was spotted on a German retail website giving away its price. Now, the OnePlus forum reveals that the model that will debut in North America will differ in charging speeds as compared to the model that will launch in other markets.

The Oneplus 10 Pro in North America is touted to come with a 65W SuperVOOC fast charging support as opposed to the 80W SuperVOOC fast charging support on the global and Chinese models. This will be because the 80W SuperVOOC doesn’t support 110 or 120-volt AC power, which is standard in the North American market. That being said, the company has to go with the lower charging speed on the 10 Pro.

Also, in the North American regions, we do not see any super-fast charging support on any phones, so this charging speed would be still great. Just for comparison, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 45W fast charging speed and the iPhone 13 Pro Max gets up to a 27W fast charging speed.

Besides this, this time around, the OnePlus 10 Pro will also offer Hasselblad cameras. It has a 48MP IMX789 + 50MP ultra-wide + 8MP telephoto triple-rear camera system. The smartphone has 32MP selfie snapper.

OnePlus 10 Pro hands-on 06

It comes with a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 1Hz to 120Hz variant refresh rate. It has a 3216 x 1440 pixels resolution and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The phone boots on Android 12 OS.
