OnePlus 10 Pro tours the stratosphere to capture some amazing pictures

OnePlus has confirmed the global launch of its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 10 Pro, on March 31, 2022. The smartphone is equipped with high-performing cameras which is its main selling point. To demonstrate the photography quality of the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G, which is built in collaboration with Hasselblad, OnePlus launched their latest flagship into the stratosphere under the ‘Capture the Horizon’ campaign.

OnePlus 10 Pro

The smartphone captured breathtaking images of the earth’s horizon. The campaign was made possible by sending the smartphone into the stratosphere at 38,000 meters, where the wind speed is 200km/hr, and temperatures go down to minus 60 degrees.

The journey was made possible by an ultra-lightweight module attached to a weather balloon, which sheltered the phones from the elements. Further, an app was developed to remotely operate the devices, which helped click pictures at the right time and with the appropriate settings. Using meteorological calculations, the module with the phones was recovered, which pleasantly revealed some spectacular horizon images.

Talking about the campaign, Kate Parkyn, Associate Marketing Director, OnePlus Europe, said:
“Since the launch of the OnePlus 9 series, we have been in a close-knit strategic partnership with Hasselblad to co-create and improve on OnePlus flagship camera technology. This is the second year of our partnership with Hasselblad where we have further developed and improved the color science with the second-generation Hasselblad Camera for Mobile. Our campaign is inspired by Hasselblad’s historical voyage to space to take images of the moon and we were confident that our camera too will be successful in delivering the same image quality. We are extremely delighted to see the stunning images of the horizon captured by OnePlus 10 Pro and proudly present this trusted camera quality to OnePlus users.”

The initiative was executed in close collaboration with OnePlus community members. They were involved in naming the module and contributing to the stratosphere’s eventful journey.
For those unaware, Hasselblad was the first camera to take pictures on the moon. With the “Capture the Horizon” campaign, OnePlus has tried to prove the reliability and quality of the camera system on the OnePlus 10 Pro, which comes powered by Hasselblad.

Huawei case could allow P50 4G series to support 5G, live image appears

Huawei may be the global leader in 5G technologies but has been unable to ship its smartphones with 5G capabilities, at least directly, due to the crippling US sanctions. Its flagship P50 series, for example, comes with flagship chips but with disabled/removed 5G modems. But with a new hack, this shortcoming could soon be worked around.

An innovative mobile phone case that will enable its 4G mobile phones to support 5G is set to launch soon, likely by Huawei itself. With an image posted on Weibo, blogger @changan (via IT Home) posted an image of the thing, which although is quite unclear, does give an idea of what to expect.

huawei 5g case

The case seems to have a SIM Card slot on the inside along with some other components, one of which may even be a 5G modem. The caption for the post poses a question — “will it be made by a third party for Huawei?” — so it’s unclear if the case in the picture is a first-party unit from Huawei.

Other than the 5G components, the orange-colored case looks quite ordinary with a soft silicone finish. The 5G bits don’t look to be contributing to the thickness of the piece, meaning it will likely feel just like a normal cover when slapped onto the back of a phone.

It’s also unclear what phone the silicon 5G case has been designed for but many suspect it to be for the Huawei P50 series.

While definitely very innovative, this isn’t the first time a company has retrofitted its phone with 5G capabilities. Motorola with a mod a couple of years ago brought 5G support to the Moto Z4, although it was rather hefty. Huawei’s implementation isn’t clear as of yet but the Moto 5G mod came with a 5G antenna from Qualcomm.

According to a 91mobiles report, industry sources have informed that the upcoming Realme 9 series device will come with 108MP primary camera. The device is said to have a total of three cameras on the back. Currently, no other information on the upcoming device is available right now. However, the device could come with the “SuperZoom” moniker which Realme has used in the past for its camera-centric devices in its numbered series.

Separately, Realme is also rumored to be working on a mid-range smartphone with a OnePlus like alert slider. This upcoming device is tipped to launch sometime in April 2022.

Realme 9 Pro+ specifications and features

OnePlus 10R tipped to sport centered punch-hole display and lack alert slider

OnePlus is being rumored to launch OnePlus 10R since January. Recently, a report revealed that the phone is codenamed ‘pickle’ and it has entered private testing in India. A few days from that, a new report has emerged today with more details.

OnePlus 10R Render
OnePlus 10R | Source: PriceBaba

According to a report by PriceBaba, the OenPlus 10R will be the first smartphone from the brand with a centered punch-hole display. Up until now, all the handsets from the company have featured a punch-hole at the top left corner.

Further, the OnePlus 10R will also be the first number series smartphone from the firm to not sport an alert slider. Only cheaper OnePlus Nord models have lacked the iconic alert slider so far.

Last but not least, the report also suggests that the successor of the OnePlus 9R could be a rebranded realme GT NEO3 as their design will be near identical. However, this does not make sense as the latter is also expected to release in India and other international markets.

Additionally, an earlier report tipped MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset for the OnePlus 10R. Whereas, the realme GT NEO3 has a less powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC.

Therefore, we believe that the OnePlus 10R could be rather a tweaked version of realme GT NEO3 with some differences in features. What are your thoughts on this upcoming OnePlus device? Do let us know in the comment section below.

vivo X80 Pro to be the most powerful vivo flagship, imaging chip will allow impressive videography

The vivo X80 Pro will be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 flagship processor, tipster Digital Chat Station revealed through a post on Weibo today. The device uses a 6.78-inch 2K+ OLED curved screen and has a battery capacity of 4,700mAh with support for 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The Dimensity 9000 adopts TSMC’s superior 4nm fabrication process and uses a (1+3+4) implementation similar to that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (via My Drivers). It consists of 1x Cortex-X2 super core, 3x Cortex-A710 large cores, and 4x Cortex-A510 small cores. Graphics are handled by the ARM Mali-G710 GPU and the entire thing manages to cross the 1 million mark on AnTuTu.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000

The same tipster had earlier revealed that the vivo X80 series is equipped with vivo’s self-developed V1 imaging chip, built to meet the needs of the devices’ photography capabilities. When shooting videos facing a large number of complex operations, the V1 chip has an exponential improvement in energy efficiency compared to DSPs and CPUs.

Similar behavior is seen when shooting images too, with the dedicated algorithms of the chip cutting down power consumption by 50% by handling processing.

Like last year, the vivo X80 series could be made of three models, namely the vivo X80, vivo X80 Pro, and the vivo X80 Pro+. All of these may debut in April.

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5G Global Launch Date

According to a tweet by the official Twitter account of Xiaomi, the firm will be announcing the ‘most powerful Redmi Note.’ The company is calling the device ‘Ultimate’.

This smartphone also goes by the name of Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge in India. Whereas, the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G available in India is the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G sold in other regions outside China.

Though Xiaomi calls it the most powerful Redmi Note, it is actually not. It may be the powerful one outside China but the world’s most powerful Redmi Note title goes to the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G. This device is also known as POCO X3 GT in some markets.

Anyway, talking about the upcoming Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G for global markets, it will arrive with a 6.67-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, 108MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro) triple camera system, 16MP selfie camera, dual stereo speakers, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11, 4,500mAh battery, and 120W fast charging support.

Infinix announces color changing leather technology, will be used on phones

Transsion today announced that its Infinix brand has released the world’s first light-painted leather technology that changes colors under sunlight. Using it, users can customize the back cover of their phones by drawing a personalized pattern by blocking the light.

infinix light painted leather

According to reports, the light-painted leather technology works by reacting to ultraviolet rays. A photochromic compound is integrated into leather whose molecular structure changes rapidly under sunlight, resulting in color shifting. The effect is temporary though, as the color of the leather gradually returns to its original state.

infinix light painted leather demo

Transsion says that unlike regular electrochromic technology, Infinix’s light-painted leather is a passive color-changing technology, meaning it does not require any additional energy from a smartphone to produce color changes. Simply blocking the light in different shapes is sufficient for creating different patterns, opening up the possibility of endless customization.

The new light-painted leather technology will be applied to future Infinix products soon.

A similar implementation was seen on the freshly-launched realme 9 Pro+, allowing its glass back to show different colors depending on where you are — indoor or outdoors. But unlike the realme 9 Pro+ which had a glass back, Infinix’s technology color shifts leather, which is very unique.

vivo Pad real-life images officially posted, show a clean, minimal design

vivo Smart Devices on Weibo today posted multiple images of the vivo Pad — the company’s very first tablet rumored to be released next month.

The post amusingly said that since the boss requested posters of the product on short notice, all the marketing team could manage were a few actual images. We aren’t complaining though, since the set of images is perhaps the clearest look at the tablet we’ve had to date.

Starting with the rear of the device, there is a circular camera module that looks to be housing at least two lenses inside. This circular module sits inside another island — rectangular this time. A tipster had earlier stated that vivo appears to be going big on round camera modules this year with its upcoming flagship phones, but it seems tablets will be adopting it too. Aside from that, the overall build is metallic and boxy, with squared-off edges.

A keyboard accessory is supported by the vivo Pad as customary, and it frankly looks plenty inspired by the Magic Keyboard you can stick iPads into. It has a flap at the rear which the tablet can lean on, allowing for a laptop-like experience.

Judging from the official renders, the vivo Pad will be available in sky blue and space grey color options. The tablet also supports ecosystem features such as smartphone linking, seamless file transfers, and mobile app controls.

The vivo Pad has already passed 3C certification with model number PA2170, confirming that it chargers at 44W.

Digital Chat Station earlier revealed that the vivo Pad is equipped with the Snapdragon 870 chip, has a 120Hz LCD display, supports 44W fast charging, and has a 7,860mAh battery. The price is expected to be around 2,000 Yuan, meaning the tablet will be competing with the likes of Xiaomi Pad 5, Honor Pad V7, Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro, etc.

Apart from this, the Xiaomi 12 Lite’s specs were leaked recently. The smartphone is expected to come with a 6.55-inch curved AMOLED display with Full-HD+ resolution. Aurora introduces Toyota Sienna-based autonomous ride-hailing test fleet

Autonomous ride-hailing service developments have been on the increase in the past few years across the world. The autonomous version of the expansive Toyota Sienna has been introduced as a ride-hailing test fleet conceptualized by Aurora Innovation. The autonomous Toyota Sienna models feature Toyota’s Vehicle Control Interface and the Sienna Autono-MaaS platform.

Aurora’s Sienna Autono-MaaS platform is the backbone for the new ride-hailing test fleet unveiled by Aurora. It was first introduced in prototype form in 2021 and it has undergone several improvements since then. The autonomous test fleet has been on selected Texas public roads so that the Aurora driver system could master the complexities that will be faced in real driving situations. The system is capable of reacting to various aspects of environmental and human uncertainty on the road. It is capable of detecting pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic lights, as well as weather conditions.

A test run of the system was carried out involving Toyota executives who were picked at their Texas facility and driven autonomously through a route that led to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The milestone was celebrated by Toyota North America and Aurora says the system is safe, comfortable, and convenient.
