TWS

According to a Counterpoint Research report, this growth rate was slightly lower than initial projections due to the impacts of Coronavirus. But despite these issues, the TWS earbuds market still managed to reach 300 million units in shipments. The surge was likely fueled by the advancement in TWS earbuds and their features. This includes features like ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) and extended play time rising at an affordable price tag.

Furthermore, various brands also started raising their focus towards expanding their smart ecosystem, which also led to a rise in competition and sales in the market. Apple still managed to retain the lead the segment, with its AirPods and AirPods Pro that saw robust sales throughout the year. On the other hand, Samsung saw a sizeable rise of 33 percent year on year thanks to its Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds 2.

TWS

Senior Analyst Liz Lee, “The $50-$100 segment grew significantly YoY, as Xiaomi, which had focused on the sub-$50 segment, tried to expand its lineup to the $50-100 range. Further, the competition in the $50-$100 segment intensified, with smartphone OEMs like OPPO, OnePlus and realme pitted against emerging brands like Skullcandy, JLab and Nothing. All this competition resulted in new products offering good quality and more features at reasonable prices and pushing the market growth in 2021.”

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Render Leak
Galaxy Z Fold4 Render Leak

According to Naver, the Galaxy Z Fold4 will arrive with a more durable version of Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), which could be marketed as the Super UTG. Furthermore, the South Korean tech giant is also planning on bringing support for regular S Pens that won’t damage the display panel, because of this change. For those unaware, the Galaxy Z Fold3 was not strong enough to properly support the regular version of S Pen without possibly damaging the display.

Thus, the brand had to introduce the S Pen Fold Edition, which had retractable tip. But now, it seems that the next gen version of the Galaxy Fold will support the regular version thanks to the strong UTG. Notably, the news came from someone claiming to work for Samsung’s domestic supply chain. So take this information with a pinch of salt for now. Although, while the UTG is flexible and proved to be reliable, the company must have realized that it needs to be more durable.

Thanks to the new Super UTG, many issues related to Galaxy Fold devices cracking will likely be addressed. Recently, a few users of Reddits have come forward with their damaged Galaxy Z Fold3. They stated that the screen cracked without any reason but the company refused to fix them claiming that they were caused by external factors. So, the new UTG might be the answer to solving this issue on next gen foldable phones.

Apple Car team dissolved but must be reorganized asap to meet 2025 deadline, analyst says

Apple’s team of employees working on the company’s very first electric vehicle has been dissolved temporarily, but must be reorganized within the next three to six months in order to meet the 2025 mass production goals, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said with a tweet on Tuesday.

The company’s EV plans have reportedly faced numerous setbacks already since its advent way back in 2014 (via MacRumors). More recently, in November 2021, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple was accelerating work on its EV, aiming for one with full self-driving capabilities. He also said that Apple was aiming for a 2025 launch but that could be delayed due to development challenges.

Kevin Lynch, Apple’s VP of technology, has been said to be reassigned to head the Apple Car project in September 2021. This comes following another report that said that John Giannandrea was overseeing development in 2021, indicating that there has been a change in leadership.

Foxconn and Luxshare are rumored to be the top candidates to produce the Apple Car, according to a report by DigiTimes Asia. The two firms are two key manufacturers for Apple products and have already entered the EV market, aiming for a strong manufacturing capability by the time Apple is done with the development stage.

Apple Car rumors have been doing rounds for years now. Although it is not expected to debut anytime soon, it looks like the company is finally speeding things up to meet the 2025 deadline.
