Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Cover renders reveal camera bump and design profile

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S-series flagships, which are expected to launch in February next year, have been plagued with leaks and rumors, whether it be specification leaks or its sightings on Samsung’s official website. Now, new leaks have surfaced of its top-end model, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, showcasing its rear styling and design profile.

The know tipster Roland Quandt took to Twitter to share his latest findings which feature standing pictures of the Galaxy S22 Ultra with a clear back cover on. The leak has been claimed to come from the UK retail chain.

The renders showcase a rectangular design with slightly curved edges which goes along with the earlier render leaks of the device. However, one difference can be observed in the camera module of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which was previously shown to have an almost non-existent camera bump with the lenses protruding from its body. Now, going by the new reveals, it appears that the phone will indeed feature a camera bump which can be observed by the camera module cut out of the clear view cover. The render also reveals that the phone will house a quad-camera setup along with a laser autofocus sensor and an LED flash.

Image

The tipster also revealed the design of the upcoming stylus for the Galaxy S22 Ultra which appears to be quite similar to the current-gen stylus on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Previous leaks have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is set to launch in February 2022 and features a 6.8-inch screen with a quad 108MP + 10MP + 10MP + 12MP rear camera setup. The device will have the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC under its hood but might even come with Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 SoC. The phone is rumored to come with two RAM configurations of 12GB paired with 128/256GB storage and 16GB paired with 512GB.

The device is said to come in Dark Red, Black, and White color options, but some reports have also pointed to a new Green color option. As for the pricing, if the reports are to be believed, the Galaxy S22 series could have a starting price of $799.

Hyundai MobED is a four-wheeled robot that can coast at 30km/h & can carry stuff around

Hyundai is making progress in its choice of new mobility products encapsulated by the MobED mobility platform. The MobED is a four-wheeled robot that is designed to carry everyday loads and it has a top speed of 30km/h. The Hyundai MobED concept was first announced during CES in January this year and the company has now released a press statement outlining some details of the new four-wheeled robot. The MobED is designed to carry everyday parcels and also it can carry humans.

The MobED has a dimension of 67x60cm, with four independently controlled 12-inch pneumatic tires and a solid suspension system. The suspension system of the MobED accommodates the tilting of the central platform in any direction. This helps the MobED to keep goods level while navigating through angular surfaces like a ramp or slope. Hyundai is conceptualizing some innovative applications of the MobED vehicle.

The South Korean automaker hints that the robot could be used as a personal caddy and several industrial applications. Indeed, Hyundai plans to sell the MobED to industrial partners who may then adapt it to their specific mobility needs. It can also be scaled up for use as a mobility device for the elderly or physically challenged, as well as a stroller or leisure vehicle.

The MobED has a battery life of 4 hours although several important details about the actual mobility mechanism deployed in the robot are still lacking. The pricing and release date for the MobED is yet to be released by Hyundai.

LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitor 2022 lineup including a 27-inch option unveiled

LG has unveiled the UltraFine OLED Pro 4K monitors for 2022 and it will include a 27-inch monitor in addition to the 31.5-inch model. The 2021 model which is available in a sole 31.5-inch model is priced at $3,999. Although there’s no word yet on the pricing of the two new monitors, they are expected to start shipping from January 2022. It is speculated that the 27-inch model could be priced below $4,000 which is bound to be attractable to a segment of the market.LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitor

The LG Pro 4K OLED monitors are not primed for gaming applications due to their lower display refresh rates of 60Hz, although not explicitly stated yet. If the 60Hz display refresh rate is retained, it will also be a bit tasking to use these screens for watching movies or TV. The LG Pro OLED monitors are not designed for use in daytime lit environments or content that involves fast-moving screen activity.LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitor

One of the key talking points of the LG Pro OLED monitors is that they retain the original looks while editing videos or photos. They also have detachable self-calibration sensors and monitor hoods. The LG Calibration Studio software can be used to adjust the settings of the monitor. These models are coming just a few months after the first shipments of the 2021 model in September 2021.

Latest Galaxy S21 FE leak reveals pricing & more specs, leaving nothing to the imagination

Following news of delays and even cancellation, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is now finally almost upon us, with rumors setting a January 5 release date. Fans waiting to purchase the device for months will be happy to know that the phone will likely be shipping with Android 12 – something that wouldn’t have been possible had supply constraints not delayed its release.

The phone has been extensively leaked over the past couple of months, leaving almost nothing unknown about it anymore. But the final blow for leaks was delivered by another one from yesterday that revealed not only its complete specifications down to the minutest detail but also the pricing of all of the variants.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Press Render Featured A

Now the pricing of the Galaxy S21 FE has been doing rounds for a while now, although it did seem a bit far-fetched considering the base variant had been priced at EUR 920, which puts it in the top-of-the-line flagship league.

The updated pricing, on the other hand, that comes from WinFuture.de (via PhoneArena) lists the price of the base variant as a more reasonable $749. Mind you, this is still higher than the Galaxy S20 FE’s price of $699 but it could be possible that Samsung will revise it at launch.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE pricing:

  • 749 USD/EUR for the 6GB/128GB version
  • 819 USD/EUR for the 8GB/256GB version

The leak also confirms the 6.4-inch screen size of the phone and sets its dimensions at 155.7 x 74.5 x 7.9mm, which should feel noticeably more comfy in hand when compared to the Galaxy S20 FE’s 159.8 x 74.5 x 8.4mm dimensions. Apart from this, the S21 FE has also been unofficially confirmed to feature much slimmer bezels than its predecessor – yet another contributing factor for its more compact design.

Last but not the least, the complete camera specifications of the Galaxy S21 FE have been revealed and they have been given in a neat little table below:

Huawei Exec urges Indian Govt. for an open policy to “level playing field”

Huawei is seeking a level playing field to be a part of the Digital India initiative and is urging the local government for an open policy, which would also allow it to enter India’s 5G networking infrastructure.

Huawei

According to an Economic Times report, the Chinese tech giant’s India CEO, David Li, has asked the Indian government to have an “open policy” to welcome global telecom based firms. The executive stated that “I believe India should have a more open policy and should also welcome all the global players to contribute in this journey. This global collaboration will not only give a faster 5G deployment, more cost effective, faster roll-out and higher efficiency, and also will bring more user cases and good experience to make this 5G journey more proactive.”

As of right now, the telecom equipment maker has already setup 4G networks for Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, two telecom service providers that operate in India. But despite its presence in the region, the company’s equipment is being slowly replaced by other rival vendors as the country moves towards 5G networking standards. But while 5G trials are already under way, Huawei and ZTE have been left out.

huawei

Thus, the Huawei India CEO said that “We also have a very huge incumbent network. Network is more like an asset to society as well as the responsibility and also moving forward I believe, we have a deep understanding of Indians towards challenges in terms of digitization and digital transformation. So, we definitely can play a very important role and we can contribute a lot to India. In this regard, we are seeking a level playing field for the Indian market.”

For those unaware, telecom operators like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea are currently testing 5G trials in India with their equipment suppliers like Nokia and Ericsson. The government is seeking to begin commercial 5G roll out by the second quarter of next year.

OPPO patents futuristic phone with dual displays, under screen camera, & more

During the OPPO INNO Day 2021, the company had revealed a number of new technologies it had been working on. This includes its first commercial foldable smartphone, the Find N, its Air Glass, and even its first NPU imaging chip as well. Now, a new patent has revealed that the company might be working on a new futuristic device as well that features an interesting design.

Oppo

According to a LetsGoDigital report, the Chinese smartphone maker had filed a patent with the CNIPA (China National International Property Administration), which got published earlier this week and was also spotted in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) database as well. This patent arrived with a description for the handset and dozens of design sketches as well. Looking at these images, we can see that the smartphone has quite a unique design and could possibly be an upcoming Find X4 series model.

It features dual displays, with a primary screen on the front and a smaller secondary panel on the rear. This smaller display features a squarish design and is situated next to the rear quad camera module, which also has a square shape. On the other hand, the front display is notable as well, since it offers a panel that is curved on all four edges. In other words, no bezel appears to be visible when looking at the device from the front.

Oppo

Another notable aspect of the front display is the inclusion of an under display camera. Meaning, Oppo might debut the latest under screen camera technology with the Find X4 series. With the display also being rounded on all four sides, the edges will have quite a thin frame, which will also house the usual volume rockers and power button. Keep in mind that this is still just a patent and we have no confirmation that this actually is a Find X4 series model. So take this report with a pinch of salt.

OPPO and vivo take lead in Indonesian smartphone market as Xiaomi dips to 3rd spot

OPPO and vivo have taken the first and second spots, respectively, in an Indonesian smartphone market that saw a 12.4% YoY decline in shipments. The decline was due to supply constraints and Xiaomi seemed to have been hit the hardest, dipping to the third spot as a result.

The data concerns the third quarter of 2021 and comes from the latest IDC Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, also revealing that only 9.2 million units were shipped in the country in the quarter. The second wave of COVID-19 peaked in July 2021, which resulted in stricter lockdown regulations that lasted for a significant part of 3Q21, and in turn, affected offline sales.

Indonesia top 5 smartphone companies

While restrictions have begun to ease since September, supply shortages will continue to impact smartphone production and sales indefinitely. 4G smartphones will also be growing more scarce as OEMs focus more on their 5G offerings. With a dwindling supply, such smartphones will also be growing more expensive.

In 3Q21, more 5G models were released, bringing the total share of 5G to 7%, up from 6% in the previous quarter. As OEMs strive to bring affordable 5G smartphones to market, the average selling price (ASP) of 5G smartphones fell by 27% QoQ to $418 in 3Q21.

Moving on to the companies themselves, OPPO is now king of the hill as stated above, having kept a relatively steady inventory despite the supply shortages. It was still the leader in the low-end segment (US$ 100 < US$ 200), which accounted for the majority of its shipments. It is followed by vivo that managed to climb to the second spot thanks to its growth in offline sales. The company was also aided by its Y series in the low-end segment.

Things did not look too rosy for Xiaomi during Q3 2021 though as it dropped to the third position following two consecutive quarters of strong growth, facing significant constraints in terms of supply. Despite this, the company stood leader of the mid-range segment ($200 – $400).

Samsung stood fourth in the Indonesian smartphone market with a share almost equal to that of Xiaomi now, that is, a little above 15%. It is trailed by realme with a relatively flatter and more stable growth curve.

Huawei shockingly holds more than 50% of the market share of foldables in China, iResearch reveals

Foldables are now commonplace in the public eye. They are now more mainstream than ever before, and everyone is itching to get their hands on one. Therefore, it is no surprise that every phone manufacturer is rushing in to launch their first-ever foldable, with Oppo just announcing its Oppo Find N this week.

Huawei P50 Pocket images

Although the current global foldable market is only dominated by Samsung, the Chinese foldable market tells a different story and notably has two major phone manufacturers on the battlefield, Huawei and Samsung, with Huawei holding 64.0% of the foldable market in China, more than 50%!

A report published on 17 December by iResearch China revealed that throughout 2021, Huawei has amassed a market share of 64% in the Chinese foldable market. Huawei has even surpassed the peak when it was dominating in the Chinese conventional smartphone market during yesteryears, prior to the US sanctions.

iResearch China has also revealed that there has been a growing demand for clamshell foldables, in line with Huawei’s announcement about the Huawei P50 Pocket at its Huawei Winter Flagship Keynote event on 23 December 2021. When choosing the best clamshell foldable to buy, consumers responded that their main priority is the specs and features of the foldable, while the runner-up is the fashionable design and feel of the foldable.

On the other fence, when choosing the best open book type foldable to buy, iResearch China reveals that consumers focus more on the specs and features, as well as the reputation of the brand they are buying from.

It cannot be disputed that one of the key attractive selling points of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 was its trendy pastel coloured design and that its fashionable design was one thing it had over its sibling, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3. Although Huawei already has its Huawei Mate X2, its flagship open book type foldable, they also want to recreate the success of the Z Flip3 with their first-ever clamshell flagship foldable next week with the Huawei P50 Pocket. The Huawei P50 Pocket will be announced on Wednesday, 23 December.

Out of support Galaxy S8, S8+ get yet another update

Samsung is the only Android OEM other than Huawei to be known for longer software support. At times, both these companies exceed expectations by rolling out updates for devices that have reached their end of support. This phenomenon is happening for the second time for the almost 5-year-old Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

Samsung Galaxy S8

Samsung dropped software support for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ in May 2021. Despite that, the phones received September 2021 security update a few months later.

Now, three months from that, the handsets have started receiving November 2021 security update, reports SamMobile. The latest system update for the smartphones arrives with firmware version G95xFXXUCDUK1.

As of now, the fresh software release is only live in France. But it should make its way to other markets in the coming days.

Samsung debuted the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ with Android 7.0 Nougat. They were updated to Android 8.x Oreo and Android 9.0 Pie.

Since the South Korean tech giant did not have the 3 Android updates policy back then, users of the handsets couldn’t enjoy Android 10 on them. But at least, their phones are being showered with more security updates than they are eligible for.

If you are an owner of a Galaxy S8 or a Galaxy S8+, then do share your experience with Samsung’s software support in the comment section below.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra screen size leaked, sports 6.6 inch 2K display

With the year coming to an end, Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its next generation of flagship smartphone lineup. Now, a new leak has revealed some key details regarding the display of its top end Xiaomi 12 Ultra model.

Xiaomi

The news arrives from known tipster @数码闲聊站 on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website). Apparently, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will feature a display that is around 6.5 to 6.6 inches and has a 2K resolution. We can expect the size of the display to be identical between the regular Ultra and the Ultra Enhanced Edition as well. This is noticeably smaller that the previous generation Mi 11 Ultra‘s 6.81 inch display. Although, it could be a change to make the Ultra models more handy and easier to use with one hand.

Xiaomi

As per our previous report, the Xiaomi 12 Pro might feature an under display camera on its 6.6 inch display. In other words, the difference between the Pro and Ultra model will not be in the display department. We had even gotten our hands on the 12 Pro variant’s screen protector, which we had compared to the Mi 11. Apart from sharing details of upcoming smartphones from the Chinese tech giant, the tipster also added that new Redmi models will also be featuring smaller displays next year.

Huawei P50 Pocket foldable phone roundup: display, specs, colors & more – what to expect!

2022 seems to be the year of the foldables, just as realme’s Xu Qi had earlier predicted. The market that has been completely dominated by Samsung until now is beginning to heat up firstly with the release of the OPPO Find N and now the soon-to-launch Huawei P50 Pocket.

Huawei P50 Pocket Foldable Smartphone Launch Date

A launch event will be held on December 23rd for the device where the curtains will also be lifted on some other products like the Huawei Watch D smartwatch with support for blood pressure monitoring. The Huawei P50 Pocket is likely the same device that has been doing rounds as the Huawei Mate V for a while now.

Design & Display

Display analyst and CEO of Display Supply China Consultants (DSCC) Ross Young recently revealed that the Huawei P50 Pocket is equipped with a large 6.85-inch foldable screen, which is a tiny bit larger than the one on the Galaxy Z Flip3. The primary display is complemented by a smaller, circular cover display on the outside of the phone, with a size of 1-inch. This one is positioned under the rear camera module, also with a circular design.

But even with the usage of such a breakthrough piece of tech, Huawei hasn’t gone light on the design of the Huawei P50 Pocket and has undoubtedly made it quite the head-turner, with a golden body and a unique textured finish. Some images were shared yesterday by a fashion magazine, showing Chinese actress Guan Xiaotong endorsing the Huawei P50 Pocket. A use case of the outside display has also been demonstrated therein, showing the actress clicking a selfie using the rear camera.

Cameras on the Huawei P50 Pocket

Moving on to the cameras, a tipster had claimed that the P50 Pocket’s rear camera setup will include a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 13-megapixel snapper, and an 8-megapixel tertiary lens. The handset may carry support for 3x optical zoom.

Other Specifications

Apart from the above, there is barely anything known about the Huawei P50 Pocket in terms of specifications, although reports do suggest that the phone will be coming with support for 66W rapid charging. If true, it will be leaving the Galaxy Flip3’s 15W charging in the dust.

There is no information on the chipset and battery capacity of the P50 Pocket. The device is likely to arrive with support for 66W rapid charging. Apart from the gold variant, the P50 Pocket may also arrive in a blue edition. The leak claims that it will be priced lower than the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G. To recollect, the Samsung flip phone was introduced with a pricing of $999. As usual, readers are recommended the specs leak of the P50 Pocket with a grain of salt.

Colors & Expected Pricing

Apart from the gold coloring showcased in the images above, the Huawei P50 Pocket may also come in a blue edition and a white variant.

As for pricing, the phone is expected to be cheaper than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip3 that debuted with a price tag of $999. Offerings from Chinese companies are generally cheaper as it was seen with the OPPO Find N’s price of around $1,200, which is much lower than the Z Fold3’s launch price of $1,799.99.

That said, with just a few days left for launch, we should be getting further details about the stunning foldable phone through both official and unofficial channels.

This Samsung phone can both fold and roll: Design Patent

Samsung is the leading foldable smartphone brand. The company will continue to enjoy this status for the time being. To keep up with the competition, the firm needs to innovate. Hence, like any other company, it is also known for patenting various phone designs and technology every now and then. One such patent has now emerged showcasing both foldable and rollable form factors in a single device.

According to 91Mobiles, Samsung filed a unique smartphone design patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) in June 2021. This design incorporates a foldable as well as a rollable in one phone.

As mentioned earlier, Samsung is well-known for its foldables, however, the company is yet to release any rollable. In fact, there’s not a single commercial rollable smartphone from any brand.

However, like others, Samsung has also been filing design patents for this new form factor. But this is the first time any company has ever clubbed both foldable and rollable into one.

Per the patent description, the design is of an ‘electronic device capable of folding and sliding operations’. Users can slide the display of this handset based on requirement and can fold it at an inclined angle. The screen can be folded even when it is not rolled out.

Unfortunately, not much is known about this design patent except that it uses a hinge and a motor to fold and roll respectively.

As of now, we don’t think Samsung will ever launch a commercial product with this design anytime soon. But we cannot rule out the possibility in the future.
