OPPO Reno6 vs Redmi Note 11 Pro+ vs Vivo T1: Specs Comparison

A lot of 5G upper mid-range phones debuted in the second half of 2021, including brand new variants and new series of phones. Vivo T1 for example is the first phone from the Vivo T series, while Redmi Note 11 Pro+ is the first Pro+ variant from the Redmi Note lineup. But which phone is the most interesting in the upper-midrange segment? There are three very interesting choices and we decided to put them together in a specs comparison: OPPO Reno6 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro+, and Vivo T1.

Design

Are you looking for the best and most original design? The answer is OPPO Reno6 5G. First of all, it has the best materials: the rear side is made of glass, while the frame is made of aluminum. Further, it has the OPPO Glow finish allowing for an opaque but brilliant glass back giving a very elegant and pleasing effect. The silver medal goes to Redmi Note 11 Pro+ sporting a glass back and a plastic frame. I do not like the Vivo T1 so much because it has a full plastic design and a lower screen to body ratio.

Display

On the paper, the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ has the most advanced display. It is an AMOLED panel with a 6.67-inch diagonal, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10 certification improving the image quality on streaming platforms. The Vivo T1 has similar specifications but its panel is an IPS, which means less impressive colors if compared to the Redmi Note 11 Pro+. The OPPO Reno6 5G has an AMOLED display as well, but with a lower 90 Hz refresh rate and without the HDR10 certification. Note that OPPO Reno6 5G is the only one with an in-display fingerprint reader, while Redmi Note 11 Pro+ and Vivo T1 have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Specs & Software

If you are searching for the best hardware, then you should opt for the Vivo T1 without thinking twice. It is fueled by the amazing Snapdragon 778G mobile platform built at 6 nm and paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The second place belongs to the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ with a Dimensity 920 chipset, up to 8 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB of native storage. The OPPO Reno6 5G has an inferior Dimensity 900 paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The phones run Android 11 with heavily customized UIs.

Camera

The most impressive camera setup on the front side belongs to the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ which includes a 108 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP macro camera. Both OPPO Reno6 5G and Vivo T1 come with a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro camera, but the OPPO Reno6 5G has a brighter focal aperture for the main sensor and even a better selfie camera with a 32 MP resolution.

Battery

The phone with the biggest battery is the Vivo T1 sporting a capacity of 5000 mAh, but you should note that it has a less efficient IPS display, so it does not always guarantee the longest battery life. The Redmi Note 11 Pro+ wins the fast charging comparison with a power of 120W.

Price

The prices of Redmi Note 11 Pro+ begin at €260/$300 in China, Vivo T1 starts from €300/$347, and Reno6 costs about €350/$405. There is no definitive winner of this comparison and each device has its pro and cons: OPPO Reno6 5G has a better design and front camera, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ offers an advanced main camera and faster charging, and Vivo T1 has a bigger battery and superior hardware. Which one would you pick?

Ducati unveils the Pro-III e-scooter with a €799 ($944) price tag

Ducati has unveiled its most advanced electric scooter yet, the Ducati Pro-III e-scooter and it is priced at €799 ($924). The new Pro-III e-scooter, even if it’s the company’s most advanced micro-mobility offering yet, falls short of what Ducati claims it can build.Ducati Pro III

Ducati says the Pro-III is its most technically advanced scooter in the Ducati Urban e-mobility lineup of products. It can be connected to the Ducati Urban e-mobility user app and also uses NFC technology. The technology allows the user to deploy a token that can start the model when brought close to the scooter’s display. This security measure ensures therefore that the e-scooter can only be operated by the person in possession of the token.

The NFC chip embedded inside the token, as well as the possibility of charging phones via the Pro-III USB charging ports are the major highlights of the new Ducati-branded e-scooter. The Pro-III has a 350W motor which can provide a top speed of 15.5 mph, which is far below the 150 mph top speeds Ducati claims it can achieve in its motorcycles. The Pro-III has a 468 Wh battery pack with a range of 31 miles, according to Ducati.

It is noted that Ducati does not make any of these products on its own, but rather is enjoying brand allegiance from other manufacturers who seek to build on the name of the Ducati brand. There are even no concrete moves by Ducati to produce electric bikes in the short term. However, the company continues to leverage on a strong partnership with its collaborators which is reflected in its recent announcement before the launch of the Pro-III. It had announced that it will be the sole supplier of electric racing bikes for the MotoE racing series from 2023.

It is unclear whether Ducati will produce the high-speed racing e-bikes by 2023 or it has already inked some partnerships with capable manufacturers for the delivery of Ducati-branded racing e-bikes.

A Larger and Better Display

One of the biggest upgrades on the new Redmi Watch 2 is its display. The brand has given it a 1.6-inch OLED display, which means you get more screen real estate with better colors. To recall, the original Redmi Watch had a 1.4-inch LCD display.

Redmi Watch 2 Hands on featured 4

The screen-to-body ratio has improved to 63.7%, and the overall design feels a bit more refined than its predecessor. The watch only weighs 31 grams, so it’s on the lighter side, and you’ll be comfortable wearing it for the entire day. The silicone rubber strap is comfortable and features a quick-release design, so you can easily replace it.

The watch supports touch inputs and there’s a single button on the right for navigation.

Redmi Watch 2 comes with More Features

The new Redmi Watch 2 features over 117 workout modes, with the ability to automatically detect some of them.

Google Pixel Fold reportedly launching in 2022 with a less powerful camera than the Pixel 6

Some details pieced together from online sources by 9to5Google indicate that Google’s first foldable smartphone is slated for a 2022 release and there are feelers that the device will have cameras that fall below the highly rated Pixel 6 series. The Google Pixel 6 Pro is ranked among the top 10 smartphones based on its camera quality. It performed better in terms of photo and video quality, than other popular brands, and was just below the iPhone 13 on the ranking scale. In addition, the Pixel 6 Pro has an excellent zoom mechanism and impressive overall output. However, the Pixel 6 also has some design features that impacted its camera setup. It was expected that subsequent products should improve upon the design flaws of their predecessor.google-pixel-fold-render-2

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro both feature a 50MP main camera and its Samsung-produced GN1 sensor allows for more light due to the large size of the sensor. Much compensation had to be done to balance for the physically large-sized camera system including the visor which sticks out from the phone. This forward-looking camera bar that sticks out seems not to have been countenanced by Google in the upcoming Pixel foldable to enhance its overall appeal.

The upcoming Pixel foldable smartphone is codenamed “Pipit” and its trail was seemingly gotten from the latest release of the Google Camera app. It will have the same camera sensors as the Google Pixel 5. Therefore the more powerful Samsung GN1 sensor is replaced by the 12.2MP IMX363 as the main sensor. It is also possible that the main camera could also be used when the device is folded. This detail seems couched within the information extracted from the Camera app files.

There had been some rumors before now with regards to a possible foldable offering by Google. The Samsung foldables have had a huge reception in the market both locally and globally.

Nintendo looking to ‘substitute components and tweak designs’ to tackle chip shortage

Nintendo Co. Ltd on Friday revealed that the global chip shortage, which had already forced the company to downscale its expected sales for the much-loved Switch device, is also hindering hardware development.

“The semiconductor situation is having some effect on hardware development. We are looking at substituting components and tweaking designs to try and reduce the impact,” said Nintendo executive Mr. Ko Shiota.

Nintendo Switch

If you have been out of the loop, the world is suffering from a shortage of semiconductors at the moment. This issue has affected various tech-reliant industries across the globe including the automobile, consumer electronics (Smartphones, Laptops, gaming consoles, Televisions), home appliances, and more.

In a statement given to CNBC last month, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has speculated that the global chip shortage will likely linger for a lot longer. He said that he expects the shortage to extend at least until 2023.

This announcement comes a day after the company president Mr. Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the chip shortage shows no sign of easing up, and it has forced the company to cut down on its annual sales forecast of the Nintendo Switch by 6%. Mr. Furukawa also revealed that the company is struggling to meet the increased demand in the year-end holiday shopping season as chip shortages interrupt production.

The gaming giant depends heavily on its console business, all the while deep-pocketed rivals such as Microsoft are expanding subscription and cloud gaming services.

Nintendo on Friday further stated that “Nintendo plans to continue to expand its business around the core concept of creating unique integrated hardware-software products.”

Apple makes DIY repairs harder on iPhone 13, screen replacement disables Face ID

Apple has just made DIY fixes from independent repair stores harder on the iPhone 13 series. While replacing the display on the 2021 iPhones, the Face ID biometric security feature will be disabled.

Apple

According to an iFixit report, the Cupertino based giant has been working on making unofficial repairs harder on its products for a while now. And now, the company’s latest attempt disables the Face ID technology on the iPhone 13 if the device undergoes a DIY screen replacement. The Face ID being disabled was confirmed by iFixit through numerous tests on multiple iPhones that are running on the iOS 15 and iOS 15.1.

In other words, this implies a bleak outlook for the future for independent repair officials and even those that are looking for DIY repairs. Those looking to replace the display on iPhones would now have to not just be good with tools but also know how to microsolder as well. So to replace a screen on your own, you would have to remove a tiny microcontroller from the original screen and to a newer display. This small change could potentially be disastrous for many small scale repair shops that might have invest on expensive tools that would allow them to make screen replacements on iPhones running the new software.

A video from iCorrect also perfectly showcases how the microcontroller switch is involved, with the repairs now being a ‘multi stage’ process that appears to be quite time consuming, requiring special equipment as well. Unfortunately, Apple has yet to offer any statements regarding this matter as of right now.
