Elon Musk: New semiconductor plants to end global auto chip shortage in 2022

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has recently stated that the global shortage of chips that has affected the automobile industry should end by next year, thanks to the construction of new semiconductor plants.

For those unaware, there is an ongoing crisis regarding semiconductors shortages that have affected various industries across the globe. One of the worst affected was car production, which had even halted entirely for certain brands due to supply constraints. Now, Musk stated that “There’s a lot of chip fabrication plants that are being built. I think we will have good capacity for providing chips by next year.” during a joint session with Stellantis and Ferrari Chairman John Elkann at the Italian Tech Week (Via Reuters).

The two of them also agreed on potential support coming from nuclear power to cover the increasing global energy needs. Elon Musk further added that “I am surprised by a recent move away of some countries from nuclear energy, which is safe.” Since the onset of the chip shortage, various major chipmakers began expanding their production capacity to ensure a steady supply of semiconductors. So, we can expect supply to eventually catch up with the explosive demand.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to arrive with an S Pen slot: Report

Rumors regarding the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra have been surfacing over the last couple of weeks. And now, another report has suggested that the top end model of the flagship series will house an S Pen slot.

According to known tipster IceUniverse, a Dutch publication has stated that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will feature a built in S Pen support. In other words, multiple sources have now revealed that the S Pen will ship along with the Ultra variant this year. This news is also in line with our previous report of the Galaxy S22 Ultra renders which showcased an S Pen slot on the bottom of the device.

If this is true, it would be quite notable considering the South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy Note series usually shipped with S Pen support and a housing slot. Although, since the company did not launch a new Note model this year, the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold3 supported the S Pen. However, both models had users put the stylus inside a case rather than featuring a dedicated slot.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra gets leaked in the form of early renders

For the Galaxy Note enthusiasts, this might be good news as the high end variant will feature stylus support out of the box and offer various built in functions that they come to expect from a Note smartphone. Although, this implies that the Galaxy S series of flagship devices might be seeing a notable shift in design. This is also in line with another report that we had covered, which stated that the company possibly considering overhauling its Galaxy S lineup into its Note series.

Xiaomi is expected to launch its next gen flagship series earlier than the previous generations. The device will sport top notch specs and features, and now, a new report has suggested that it will also arrive with certain changes in design.

According to known tipster @数码闲聊站 on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website), the company will be adopting a new packaging process for the Mi 12. Xiaomi

The tipster also added that the arrangement of the triple camera setup n the rear will also adopt a new design. He stated that the module will now include a partition design, which would apparently add to its aesthetic appeal. Now, a new report has revealed some of the new and interesting camera features that the Google Pixel 6 Pro could offer, which might make it a feature packed handset in the high end market.

For those unaware, the search engine giant’s image processing pipeline and Google Camera app have made the Pixel series one of the best smartphones in terms of camera rankings. And now, a new report from XDADevelopers has suggested that the Pixel 6 series will arrive with improvements to its camera hardware, which will be much more notable than any upgrades that the previous iterations had ever made.

Google Pixel 6

The new improvements also arrive as the company has built a custom chip for its smartphone that will offer it even more control over image processing. A source close to the matter provided XDADevelopers with an unreleased internal version of the Google Camera app that has suggested some camera features that will utilize the new improvements in hardware. Some of these features include, Magic eraser, Face deblur, Scene lock, “Front torch”, and more.

While the company has already revealed the Face deblur feature (with a demo also being showcased), the new Magic eraser might be one of the most interesting upcoming features. A code name discovered on the new Camera app called “swiss” is connected to another feature called “magic eraser.” Although its exact function is unknown, it might be a post processing effect. XDA believes it might even allow users to remove objects or people from a photo that they have taken, as the name suggests.

Google

Other interesting features include motion blur, which is expected to be a motion blur feature that adds the effect in the Google Camera app. Similarly, there was also a code name “naruto” found in the camera app that is related to a feature called scene lock. While the Pixel 6 series doesn’t seem to have a front facing LED flash, the source also found a “Front torch” feature as well that simply turns the Camera UI into beige to light up anything in front of the phone’s display.

Google to reportedly host a new product launch event on October 5

With the majority of flagship smartphones scheduled to launch this year being already available in the market, Google’s Pixel 6 series is likely the only premium flagship lineup yet to go on sale.

Now, Google is apparently planning a launch event on 5th October where the company will be announcing new products for Nest, Maps, and Flights. The report also mentions that this event doesn’t have anything to do with the Google Pixel series smartphones.

Google Logo Featured

The development comes through Mishaal Rahman who shared screenshots of the now-deleted CNET article which detailed this upcoming 5th October event of Google. It revealed that the company will announce new smart speakers and security devices along with some changes and new features coming to Google Maps and Google Flights.

As noted, Google Pixel 6 series flagship smartphones are not a part of the agenda for this event as the company is expected to launch the premium smartphones on 19th October. It is expected that the phones will be available for purchase around 28th October. It’s also being reported that apart from the Pixel 6 series, the company could also announce its first foldable smartphone at the same event.

Google has already revealed some key details about the upcoming phones. The Pixel 6 comes with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display offering a 90Hz refresh rate while the Pro model has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display offering a 120Hz refresh rate.

The highlight of the Pixel 6 series remains its processor as the phones will come powered by Google’s own chipset — Tensor. Apart from on-device AI and ML capability, the chip is claimed to have significant improvement in translation, captioning, and dictation. The chipset is likely to be an unreleased Samsung Exynos 9855 SoC.

The standard model features a dual-camera setup on the back while the Pixel 6 Pro has a triple-camera setup that includes a wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 4x telephoto lens. The photography performance is expected to top the charts as the chipset is focused on photo output and uses artificial intelligence along with machine learning.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE reportedly canceled

When the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE appeared with full specs at the TENAA certification platform of China back in July, it was speculated that it may get an early launch. Earlier this month, it was reported that the S21 FE may debut in October. Fresh information that has appeared on DDaily, a South Korean publication today reveals that the company has canceled the S21 FE.

As per the report, a Samsung Electronics official has said that the company has canceled the Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE) Unpacked event, which was scheduled to take place in mid-October. He further said that the company seems to be considering not releasing the S21 FE at all.

The report mentions that the reason for canceling the event is that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is selling too well. The other issue that has reportedly resulted in the cancelation of the S21 FE is the ongoing global chip shortage issue.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in August with aggressive pricing of $999. It not only comes with updated specs but also an improved design. It is powered by the same Snapdragon 888 SoC, which is also expected to be seen on the S21 FE. It appears that the company is internally discussing that it would be ideal to focus on the parts and production of the Z Flip 3 instead of launching the S21 FE.

Apart from appearing at TENAA in July, the S21 FE’s Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 888 SoC variants were seen at other places like Geekbench and Google Play Console recently. A support page of the handset had also gone live earlier this month, which indicated that it could be launching in October.

There is a possibility that the new report about the cancelation of S21 FE could be only applicable to South Korea. The reason behind it is that it was reported by another South Korean publication FN News in June that the S21 FE will be releasing in limited markets. It claimed that the smartphone will not be releasing in South Korea and Japan, but it will be coming to markets like the U.S. and Europe. It was reported last week that the company has produced 10,000 units of the S21 FE due to the chip shortage issue.
