Fairphone 4 specs, renders, and retail prices revealed in multiple leaks

The yet-to-be-released Fairphone 4 smartphone has been the subject of several leaks, some of which are very credible. The leaks also include some seemingly compelling renders of the smartphone. These images indicate that the Fairphone 4 will supersede its predecessors in terms of its innovative features and overall performance. The rumored starting price of 600 Euros (about $708) for the Fairphone 4 also shows that it is on the mid-level of the spectrum.

Based on multiple leaks by different tipsters, two variants of the Fairphone 4 may be introduced, both having 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage for the higher model. Both variants will have a 6.3-inch display and a waterdrop notch for the selfie camera. There is a 48MP main camera, and possibly two smaller rear camera sensors. The Fairphone 4 smartphone will be powered by a 5G-enabled chipset. From the renders, it would seem that some of the images are coming from official quarters, and this could indicate an imminent launch of the devices.

We have not had any official announcement on the release date but it may be close. It is still unclear what are the full distinguishing features of the two variants of the Fairphone 4. We already know that the higher model will cost more and have additional internal storage. But we are still in the dark on several important details of the Fairphone 4 including its battery capacity, the full details of its processor, as well as the operating system.
The Fairphone 4 will be the successor to the Fairphone 3 Plus which is still available via Amazon.

Here’s why Xiaomi blocked its phone users in some regions; Access restored!

The story broke last week that Xiaomi smartphone users in some selected countries like Cuba, Iran, Syria, and Sudan, were blocked from using their smartphones. The move was aimed at curtailing the illegal activities of resellers who smuggle such smartphones into unauthorized regions to sell such. Xiaomi had stated then that it was part of its export policy to prevent access to users who purchase the device in these restricted regions.Xiaomi

Xiaomi has said that it was part of an ongoing investigation to determine whether the smartphones were smuggled to unauthorized regions like Cuba, Syria, Sudan, and a few other countries. The move is seen as an anti-smuggling measure aimed at preventing resellers from selling Xiaomi smartphones in these prohibited regions. However, buyers who bought their devices in legal markets and are using them in these prohibited countries are now allowed to continue using their smartphones. Indeed, in a country like Cuba on the list of prohibited countries, Xiaomi accounts for up to 15% of active smartphones in the country. The disconnection would have resulted in disruptions to a huge segment of the population.

Xiaomi says the ongoing investigation has achieved significant results, although no further detail on the depth of the results achieved was mentioned. The decision to restore access to legal owners of Xiaomi smartphones in these markets may be a middle-ground solution, as the company’s export policy expressly prohibits the use of its smartphones outside legal markets.

Xiaomi (Mi) 11T series: full specs and pricing details leaks a day before launch

Xiaomi began launching T-variants of its flagship phones in 2019, starting with the Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro. It followed it up with the Mi 10T series last year which even had a mid-range model that launched as the Mi 10T Lite 5G. Now, it will unveil the Mi 11T series tomorrow. If you won’t be able to catch the launch event, a new leak has revealed most of the key details there is to know about the two phones. There are also a bunch of official photos of the two phones.

The source of the leak is Winfuture.de and according to them, there are not a lot of differences between the two phones with respect to their design, so folks may not be able to tell them apart side-by-side. Both the Xiaomi 11T and Xiaomi 11T Pro will have a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a centered punch hole for the front-facing camera and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Both phones also have the same number of rear cameras.

Even with the specs, there are lots of similarities. They both come with 8GB of RAM and will be available in 128GB and 256GB storage options. Their cameras are also the same according to the source – a 108MP primary rear camera, an 8MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 5MP macro camera. You also get a 16MP front-facing camera on both models.

Where the differences are start with the processors. Xiaomi will ship the Xiaomi 11T with the Dimensity 1200 chipset while the pro model will have the Snapdragon 888. Both processors will draw juice from a 5000mAh battery but the Xiaomi 11T Pro will charge faster as it supports 120W HyperCharge while the standard model will charge at a slower speed. Both phones have Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6.

For their pricing details, the source says that the Xiaomi 11T will sell for €499.99 for the 128GB version while the 256GB version will have a €599.99 price tag. The Xiaomi 11T Pro will have a €649.99 price tag for the 128GB version and will go up to €699.99 for the 256GB variant.

Xiaomi will offer both phones in Moonlight White, Meteorite Gray, and Celestial White. Unfortunately, the press renders from the source don’t show the gray version.

Huawei developing wild Mate smartphone with tri-fold display, patent reveals

Huawei was at the pinnacle of smartphone development and was close to bagging the top spot but things went haywire following the US ban. However, the Chinese company has not given up and has continued to surprise with great offerings. And now, a patent has revealed that a wild Huawei Mate foldable smartphone with a tri-fold display is currently in the works.

The patent was filed back on March 1, 2021, with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and revealed a device that is somewhat similar to the Samsung Z Flex that was demonstrated last month. While the Huawei Mate foldable in question also folds in three places just like the Samsung model, it tops the latter by sporting a larger display.

huawei-mate-tri-fold-smartphone
Source: LetsGoDigital

The 41-page documentation released on September 10 also contains blueprints for the device that show a total of seven screen parts. Four of them are large and actually make up the viewing estate while the remaining three are basically creases to allow the display to fold.

The Huawei Mate foldable smartphone’s OS will allow content to be displayed on any one of the three segments (or displays) and the interface will adjust smartly and automatically adjust depending on how a user folds the phone. Various sensors also aid in this feat by accurately measuring the folding angle per screen part. When folded, the narrow screen segments that will form on the sides will be used to display various information such as time, network signal strength, and battery levels.

The device’s crazy design opens up a slew of use cases that are impossible on a regular smartphone. For example, the device can be placed on a table in various positions, allowing you to view content without having to tire your hands by holding it the entire time.

That said, the patent also talks about another device. This one isn’t as experimental as the aforementioned and is quite similar to the Huawei Mate X2 that was released early this year. Its design is comparable to the Samsung Fold series, meaning that it folds only once. However, it differs from the Samsung one in that it doesn’t have a separate front screen.

Huawei Mate X2

It is unclear when these devices will be hitting the markets. But LetsGoDigital says that they will only be released following the launch of a Huawei clamshell phone, that again can be compared to Samsung’s Z Flip 3. It is easy to understand from all this that Huawei has indeed set its crosshairs on Samsung and aims to make a comeback.

OPPO A16, OPPO A55 to launch in India in the coming days

Last week, OPPO announced the Enco Buds truly wireless earphones in India. The product is now also up for sale in the country. We even published our review for it a few hours back. Following the launch of this audio accessory, the company is now said to launch two new budget smartphones called OPPO A16 and OPPO A55 in India by the end of September.

OPPO A16 All Colors Featured

According to popular Indian tech influencer Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings), OPPO will be releasing OPPO A16 and OPPO A55 in India in the upcoming days. These handsets will likely debut by the end of this month.

The OPPO A16 is the successor to OPPO A15. This device went official in July. It comes with features like a 6.52-inch HD+ display (LCD), MediaTek Helio G35 SoC, 13MP (wide) + 2MP (monochrome) + 2MP (macro) triple rear cameras, 8MP front-facing camera, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The remaining specs of OPPO A16 include a dual-SIM card slot, 4G connectivity, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, MicroSD card slot, ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11, 5,000mAh battery, and 10W charging. It retails for IDR 1,999,000 ($140) in Indonesia.

On the other hand, the OPPO A55 will be a new device. Not much is known about this phone with model number CPH2325, except for the fact that it will be the 4G variant of OPPO A55 5G.

Having said that, as we are still days away from the launch, we expect to learn more about the OPPO A55 and the pricing details of the two handsets via leaks.

Mifo O5 Gen 2 Review: Earbuds that can also charge your phone

Although our channel has tested a lot of headphones in the past, like noise-canceling earbuds, noise-canceling headphones, and so on. But today’s star of the video is a bit different from our previous reviews. MIFO O5 Gen 2 is an earbud designed for a young audience. So how does it differ from other earbuds

Let’s check that out!

MIFO O5 Gen2 Earbuds Review 13

When you first look at it, you’ll know why it’s different. Unlike other earbuds that are made of plastic, the MIFO O5 Gen 2‘s case features an all-metal design.  In terms of durability, the frosted metal case is way better than the traditional plastic build, and you no longer have to worry about your keys scratching the case.

MIFO O5 Gen2 Earbuds Review 15The lid has a tight fit, and the finish is as smooth as a piece of soap in your hand. The MIFO O5 Gen 2 case has a built-in 2600mAh battery, and also comes with an adapter that allows users to reverse-charge their phones. If you don’t want to carry around a power bank but want to charge your device on the go, a short USB-C to C charging cable and the MIFO O5 Gen 2 case is enough to keep your phone charged for the entire day.

MIFO O5 Gen2 Earbuds Review 11

It also has a different way of opening the lid. You definitely cannot open it with one hand, you must force it open with both hands from the recess. The hinge is not magnetic but features a two-part hinge. In addition, it is large and weighs twice as much as a normal earbud case. This design is obviously not as portable as other earbud cases. But this MIFO case is clearly design-oriented to make it look better and more personal. And the O5 Gen2 does manage to stand out from most Bluetooth earbuds. After all, there are just too many cookie-cutter earbuds out there.

MIFO O5 Gen2 Earbuds Review 10

The shape of the earbuds is also relatively rare, with a small tail. There are two dots on the small tail, red and blue, which can be used to distinguish between the left and right earbuds. The operation method is touch, you can control the volume and play the previous song or the next song. The earbuds themselves support IP67, and the head of the earbud also has a certain tilt angle, which enables a stable and fixed fit on the ear, making it a great earbud for outdoor activities as well.

MIFO O5 Gen2 Earbuds Review 06

The MIFO O5 Gen 2 comes with aptX audio protocol. The sound quality should be theoretically better than SBC-only earbuds. And the O5 Gen2 performs very well in real life too. When it comes to both high and low frequencies, it is one of those earbuds that allows you to listen to any type of song. Because it does not have an exclusive APP, so if you need to adjust the EQ, you need to download the music app to adjust it yourself.

Earbud battery life is also one of the selling points of the MIFO O5 Gen 2. It can last up to 10 hours on a single charge. As I mentioned earlier, the earbud case has a 2600mAh battery that is the equivalent of a small Power Bank. With the earbud case, you can get over 150 hours of battery life, which means you can use them for a week without recharging, which is very impressive.

MIFO O5 Gen2 Earbuds Review 03

The MIFO O5 Gen 2 takes a completely different path than other earbuds. Its unique design, the way it opens, its extra-large battery, are the things that other earbuds don’t provide. It may not be the perfect earbuds, but it is one of the most unique earbuds you can get at this under $100 price point

MIFO O5 Gen2 Earbuds Review 01

So that’s it for this quick overview of the MIFO O5 Gen 2 earbuds.

Mozilla beats the difficult default browser switching game on Windows 11

Back in August, we had reported on Microsoft making it harder for users to switch the default browser in its latest version of Windows OS. But now, it seems that Mozilla has managed to beat this hurdle on Windows 11 for its Firefox browser.

Mozilla
Via The Verge

For those unaware, the American tech giant had basically made it a one click process to set Edge as the default browser. However, browsers from other firms had to go through a complicated tasks, which would’ve been quite an annoying task for many users. Although, Mozilla has quietly managed to defeat this with its version 91 of Firefox. The company achieved this by reverse engineering the way Microsoft sets Edge as the default browser in Windows 10.

This enabled it to set Firefox as a default browser quicker. Prior to this, one would have to go to Windows 10’s settings to select Firefox as the default browser, all the while Microsoft would ask you to consider Edge. Furthermore, the reverse engineering also meant that you can even set the default browser from with Firefox itself without requiring any additional prompts. But keep in mind that this circumvents the Microsoft anti hijacking protections that is built into Windows 10 to prevent malware from hijacking default apps.

Mozilla

A Mozilla spokesperson stated that “People should have the ability to simply and easily set defaults, but they don’t. All operating systems should offer official developer support for default status so people can easily set their apps as default. Since that hasn’t happened on Windows 10 and 11, Firefox relies on other aspects of the Windows environment to give people an experience similar to what Windows provides to Edge when users choose Firefox to be their default browser.”

Apple rolls out emergency update to fix Pegasus spyware vulnerability on iPhones, iPads, and Macs

Apple has released emergency updates iOS 14.8, iPadOS 14.8, macOS 11.6, and watchOS 7.6.2 to fix a Pegasus vulnerability on iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches. The flaw was disclosed by Citizen Lab (a cyber-research unit of the University of Toronto) on Monday and allowed a hacker using NSO’s Pegasus malware to gain access to a device belonging to a Saudi activist.

Not Just Pro variants, the entire Apple iPhone 14 series will get 120Hz LTPO OLED panels

This was done by using a security flaw in Apple’s Messages app. Apple said that this flaw could be exploited through a “maliciously crafted” PDF file. The flaw was a zero-day vulnerability, i.e., it was either unknown to Apple or they had simply not developed a patch for it at the time.

Moreover, the exploit was a zero-click exploit, which means that victims don’t have to click on the malicious file for it to infect their devices. Rather, it executes on its own using a security hole.

“After identifying the vulnerability used by this exploit for iMessage, Apple rapidly developed and deployed a fix in iOS 14.8 to protect our users,” Ivan Krstić, head of security engineering and architecture at Apple, said in a statement. “We’d like to commend Citizen Lab for successfully completing the very difficult work of obtaining a sample of this exploit so we could develop this fix quickly.”

apple launch featured

Apple has also outlined the vulnerability and its fix in a support document posted on September 13:

CoreGraphics

  • Available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation)
  • Impact: Processing a maliciously crafted PDF may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
  • Description: An integer overflow was addressed with improved input validation.
  • CVE-2021-30860: The Citizen Lab

The fixes with the Apple iOS 14.8 emergency update are for CoreGraphics as well as WebKit:

WebKit

  • Available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation)
  • Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
  • Description: A use after free issue was addressed with improved memory management.
  • CVE-2021-30858: an anonymous researcher

The emergency iOS 14.8 update release comes just a day before the much-awaited Apple launch event that will be announcing stuff like the all-new iPhone 13 series, Apple Watch 7, and the AirPods 3. We may also be hearing more about iOS 15 that will likely contain further security improvements.

A realme phone with 2K display, 125W charging in the works

The world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand realme is known for its budget and mid-range handsets. But lately, the company has been also focussing on the premium category. As per the latest information, the sister brand of OPPO and OnePlus will release its highest spec’d phone to date next year.

realme GT Master Edition Series

According to Digital Chat Station, a reliable leaker from China, realme will be launching its first smartphone with a 2K display next year. This device is also said to come with 100W+ fast charging.

Since the OPPO group’s fastest charging solution is 125W, the upcoming realme phone will likely have support for it. The realme version of this charging solution is called 125W UltraDART, while the original OPPO version is known as 125W flash charge.

OnePlus is yet to announce its version. But we expect the brand to utilize this charging solution in the near future as Xiaomi is already set to debut its 120W fast charging in global markets with the Xiaomi 11T series. That said, if you are wondering how safe is OPPO’s fast charging tech, then you can read about that here.

Additionally, in one of the comments in his post, the tipster also replied that realme is testing a new panel. In other words, the 2K resolution display on its upcoming premium smartphone will not be borrowed from older models of OPPO and OnePlus.

If this piece of information happens to be true, then the 2022 realme flagship smartphone will compete against the next-gen OPPO Find X series and the OnePlus number series.

What are your thoughts on realme entering the premium smartphone segment? Do let us know in the comment section below.

Huawei trademarks Glide Keyboard for Smartphones and Tablets

Huawei has recently filed for a new trademark. This is for a ‘Glide Keyboard’ that is registered for smartphones and tablets. The company filed for the patent with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office).

The trademark was spotted by LetsGoDigital who found that it was filed under category Class 9. Its description stated that it is a “computer keyboard; tablet; keyboard cover; projection keyboard; mobile phone keyboard; central processing unit (CPU).” From this, we can somewhat speculate that it is form of keyboard and tablets with the glide suggesting a possible sliding out mechanism for a keyboard. On the other hand, the most notable aspect of the description was the word ‘projection keyboard.’

Huawei

This is where the trademark gets interesting as it suggests that the Chinese tech giant might be working on a virtual keyboard that can be projected through laser beams. In other words, users will have a full keyboard at their disposal without having the need to carry a physical one, which can be especially useful when traveling light. The South Korean tech giant has just announced the 24 inch Webcam Monitor S4 earlier today (14th September 2021). It is designed to suit ‘hybrid workers’ and arrives with support for a built in webcam, speakers, and microphone to improve professionals and students working/studying from home. Mark Quiroz, Vice President of Marketing for the Display Division at Samsung stated that “With many adjusting to long-term hybrid work and learning environments, Samsung introduces its first webcam monitor to make life easier for those often on video calls or multitasking.”

He further added that “Thanks to the webcam at the top of the screen, users can join a video conference, take an online class or attend a virtual event all from the same monitor, without needing to buy another device or manage more cables.” On the front, the monitor sports a 2 megapixel FHD camera and an infrared camera (which is ‘Windows Hello’ certified) that is housed on a pop up camera. To bring the camera module up, users have to simply push it down into the monitor to have it spring up.

The Monitor’s camera offers 178 degree horizontal and vertical wide viewing angle, with the built in webcam and speakers saving port space as well. When connected to a laptop, the monitor can also act as a USB hub. Notably, the Webcam Monitor S4 is designed with VESA compatibility and its Height Adjustable Stand (HAS) can also be tilted, swivel, and pivot. Other notable features include TUV Rheinland certification for flicker free and low blue light and built-in 2W dual stereo speaker.

Samsung BRS will enable thinner bezels on phones & tablets

The display bezel (bottom) on the Galaxy S21+ is currently the thinnest on any Samsung mobile device. The company wants to release devices with an even thinner bezel than that. According to the latest information, the South Korean tech giant is reportedly developing a technology to achieve this.

According to a user called lanzuk (yeux1122) on Naver (via @FrontTron), Samsung is working on a tech called BRS (Border Reduction Structure). This solution will help in reducing display bezels.

The person says that BRS will be first introduced with Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. It will later debut on smartphones with higher screen-to-body ratios.

BRS is expected to make its way to phones in late 2022 at the earliest or by early 2023. This means we are still more than a year away to experience it on handsets.

However, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra tablet is rumored to go official in early 2022. Hence, we can have a glimpse of this tech in a few months from now.

Additionally, we can also speculate the smartphones with BRS display tech to arrive with UDC (Under Display Camera). Although only flagship models are said to come with BRS, eventually it will likely trickle down to mid-range models as the solution will get cheaper to implement.

What are your thoughts on Samsung’s BRS (Border Reduction Struction) technology? Do let us know in the comment section below.
