iQOO will be launching the iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition smartphone on May 24 in China. Yesterday morning, the company confirmed that it will arrive with the Snapdragon 870 chipset and UFS 3.1 storage. It also revealed the rear design of the smartphone. Later, it also shared a few more key information on the specs of the Neo5 Vitality Edition.
It is already known through the TENAA listing of the iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition that it will be sporting a 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED panel. IQOO has confirmed that the device will carry support for a 144Hz refresh rate. It also claimed that it will offer an improved viewing experience under sunlight and it will be able to convert low-quality SDR content to HDR level. In addition, it will come with a display enhancement tech called Hawkeye mode.
iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition
While the iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition will feature 8 GB of RAM, it can function like an 11 GB RAM smartphone through the memory fusion technology, which uses available storage as virtual memory. The company claimed that the Snapdragon 870 powered handset has managed to record an impressive benchmarking score of 742,444.
The TENAA listing of the phone revealed that it could be available with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of built-in storage. It may come with a front camera of 16-megapixel and a 48-mgeapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera system.
The Neo5 Vitality Edition may draw power from a 4,430mAh rated battery. Its 3C appearance revealed that it could be shipping with a 44W charger. The official images of the phone show that it will be arriving in black and white color variants.
A couple of leading smartphone brands such as Xiaomi, Vivo, iQOO, OPPO, Motorola, POCO, and OnePlus have already launched their iterations of Snapdragon 870 powered flagship phones. A fresh leak reveals that Realme could also be planning to launch a flagship phone powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset.
Well-known Chinese tipster Ice Universe shared a screenshot of an “About Phone” page of an upcoming Realme phone. As it can be seen, the model number of the mysterious phone has been blurred out in the images. However, the image reveals that it is driven by the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform, and it runs on Realme UI 2.0 based Android 11 OS.
The SoC is coupled with 12 GB of RAM, and there is an additional 5 GB of virtual memory onboard. It offers native storage of 256 GB. The other details of the smartphone are under wraps. Also, it is unclear when Realme will be announcing this smartphone.
Realme has a couple of other phones waiting in queue to go official. For the global markets, it is said to be working on the Realme 8 Pro 5G and a new phone featuring the all-new Snapdragon 778G 5G. Some reports have claimed that the Realme 8 Pro 5G could be a rebadged version of the Snapdragon 750G SoC powered Realme Q3 smartphone that debuted in April in China.
Apple appears to be going for the same design language across its devices. The iPhone 12 series, new iPad Pro, and even the new iMac all have a flat design. Now that flat design is coming to its next-gen wearable, the Apple Watch Series 7.
We got our first look at the upcoming smartwatch earlier thanks to the leaker, Jon Prosser, who shared them on the latest episode of Front Page Tech. The renders are said to be based on images and CAD files shared by an insider source.
The Apple Watch Series 7 has ditched the curved frame for a flat one. The left side of the watch which is bare on the Apple Watch Series 6 is now home to two long slits. The right side is still home to the digital crown and the side button.
The renders also show a new mint green color that looks really nice, but there is no confirmation if this will be eventually released. Other colors are silver, blue, black, and red. It remains to be seen if the Apple Watch will get a wide range of color options like the iMac.

The specs of the Apple Watch Series 7 are currently unknown, however, there are speculations the screen size will remain the same as the current model. We also expect Apple to offer it in different materials such as stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum.
This special edition comes in a new color variant called Phantom Blue (actually looks like a darker shade of purple) and it will be exclusive to Docomo. The carrier’s name is printed on the back as well as the famous Olympics logo. The phone also comes in a special box. The product listing says there are also custom wallpapers, lock screens, and app icons as well as a custom Olympics-themed boot and shutdown animation.
The device can be reserved on Docomo’s online shop now but it won’t be available until early next month. Going by previous years, we expect this special edition will be given to all athletes that attend the games free of charge.
The Galaxy S21 has a 6.2-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display with a centered punch hole and Gorilla Glass Victus. The phone has a Snapdragon 888 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage. There is a 12MP main camera on the back of the phone along with a 64MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultrawide angle camera while a 10MP camera is in front for selfies. The S21 also has a 4000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Samsung ships it with One UI 3.1 based on Android 11.
OnePlus released OxygenOS 11.2.1.1 as the first-ever system update for the OnePlus 9R in mid-April. A month later, the smartphone is now receiving its second system update as OxygenOS 11.2.1.2. The latest update brings updated security patches and some fixes as well as improvements.
Unlike the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro, the OnePlus 9R is limited to India and China. The former variant runs OxygenOS and therefore, the new update is meant for this version of the handset. On the other hand, the latter variant boots ColorOS 11.
According to the official changelog, the OxygenOS 11.2.1.2 update for the OnePlus 9R bumps up the security patch level to May 2021. Further, the update also comes with improvements for overall users experience in OnePlus Games, picture preview smoothness in Gallery, and camera stability as well as shootin performance.
Lastly, the update brings fixes for a number of bugs like abnormal silent notification after muting the media volume, UI issues in Freeform Windows, sync issue with newly saved notes and Shelf, abnormal images issue under Nightscape mode, and other general issues.

The OnePlus Watch is the brand’s first smartwatch. This wearable was announced alongside the OnePlus 9 series. At the end of the launch event, the company teased a Harry Potter Limited Edition for this watch. Now, an APK teardown of the OnePlus Health app confirms the existence of this special variant.
According to an APK teardown of the OnePlus Health v2.1.3 by OxygenUpdater, the OnePlus Watch Harry Potter Limited Edition indeed exists. As per the findings, this smartwatch will come with six exclusive watch faces.
These watch faces are based on the following six elements from the Harry Potter universe.
Hogwarts
Hogwarts Seal
Gryffindor
Slytherin
Hufflepuff
Ravenclaw
Unfortunately, nothing else is known about the OnePlus Watch Harry Potter Limited Edition. It is a mystery how it will differ from the regular color options (Midnight Black, Moonlight Silver) and when it will be officially announced.

There’s a high chance it could have a different paintjob like the recently launched OnePlus Watch Cobalt Limited Edition. However, we are not sure of it as of now.
Having said that, OnePlus was supposed to launch the OnePlus Watch alongside the OnePlus 8T late last year. Hence, there was also a OnePlus Watch Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition. But right now, it’s not known whether this special variant will ever see the light of the day.
Qualcomm has a 2-day 5G summit that kicks off today. It is expected to announce new developments and also new partnerships, one of which is with the former Huawei subsidiary, HONOR.
Honor 50 render
A tweet posted by the official Qualcomm account has said that its collaboration with HONOR will be announced at the 5G Summit. The tweet was also retweeted by the official HONOR account.
While we wait for that announcement, the phone maker has confirmed that its upcoming HONOR 50 series will be powered by the Snapdragon 778G. XDA-Developers reports that the news was announced by Fang Fei, the president of the product line department, HONOR Device Co., Ltd.
“Through close collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, the Snapdragon 778G Mobile Platform will power our brand-new HONOR 50 series, which will set a new design benchmark for HONOR, and deliver a transformative experience for our users.”
Although the above statement says that the HONOR 50 series will be powered by the chipset, there is a chance not all of the models will have this processor. A leak from last month had said that the HONOR 50 will have a Dimensity 1200 processor while the HONOR 50 Pro will have a Snapdragon processor.
The same source revealed that the HONOR 50 will launch this month while the pro version will be announced in July. Until there is an official announcement, it is best to take these dates with a pinch of salt.
Xiaomi eco-chain company Lumi technology has launched the Aqara E1 USB Stick hub for the Chinese market. The device comes with compatibility with Apple Homekit and Xiaomi’s Mi Home. The launch comes not too long after the device was listed on the Mi Home app.
Aqara E1 USB Stick Hub
The Aqara E1 USB Stick Hub is a portable device that does not require a power supply input for its operations, and a built-in plug is absent, unlike its predecessor and a few other similar hubs. This design will come in handy in areas where there is no constant power supply. It can be plugged into a power bank or any other USB port and it will not only function as a hub but can also serve as a Wi-Fi extender to help far-off devices connect seamlessly to an internet router.
However, it is not clear whether the possible devices that can connect via the hub would be outside the Mi Home architecture. A more comprehensive connectivity profile would mean that the device is more versatile. The E1 also features Zigbee 3.0 for enhanced overall performance and power efficiency. The Aqara app also provides connectivity support for the device.
Some functionality is absent in the E1, like the alarm, speaker, buzzer, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Bluetooth drawback is not much of a severe flaw as some of the devices on the Mi Home ecosystem take care of such. The USB Stick hub is compatible with Aqara and MIJIA sensors, buttons, outlets, and switches.
The Aqara E1 is now on sale in China at an affordable price of 119 yuan (~$18). There is no word yet as to when it will be launched for the global market.
Huawei just held a smart life conference where it unveiled several products, including the FreeBuds 4, MateBook 16, Huawei Smart Screen SE, Smart Scale Pro, and more. The tech giant also announced the Children’s Watch 4X New Shining edition equipped with the same design and features as the Children’s Watch 4X that was launched last year.
The Huawei Children’s Watch 4X New Shining Edition features a catchy design that aims to arouse children’s curiosity through its illuminating outlook. It comes with an upgraded woven strap capable of reflecting a bit of starlight when the watch is placed under light. This is the major difference it has from the Children’s Watch 4X from last year.
The Children’s Watch 4X New Shining Edition retains the dual-camera setup of its predecessor, packing a 5-megapixel camera on the front and an 8-megapixel shooter on the side.
The camera could be used for taking photographs, slow-motion video recording, and the added face recognition capability. In addition, high definition video calls could be done using the camera, very useful when parents seek to monitor what their child is up to at any instant and view the environment the child is located. WeChat functionality is also available – friends can be easily added by just a shaking action, and you can chat with your friends in private or group chats.
The smartwatch has strong water resistance capability and can withstand an extended period underwater for up to 50 meters. Several activities can be done while the swimming mode is activated, including shooting underwater videos and captions and recording. Other sport modes are also available for the device. Another stand-out feature of the Children’s Watch 4X New Shining Edition is an impressive built-in 11-fold AI positioning system, together with GPS and Huawei’s NLT technology to provide more precise location data for the user. The device also packs a big 800mAh battery with fast charging support that is capable of delivering up to 50% of battery life in just 20 minutes.
There is also support for NFC for contactless payment as well as built-in Xiaodu voice assistant 3.0. The watch arrives with 4G Netcom and VoLTE capabilities compatible with China’s three major telecoms providers – China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom.
The new Huawei Children’s Watch 4X New Shining Edition comes in two colors; Nebula Blue and Nebula Purple. The watch carries a 1398 yuan (~$217) price tag. It is currently available for pre-sale via Huawei Mall, major authorized e-commerce platforms, and Huawei experience stores. The watch will go on sale for the first time on June 1.

According to info shared with us by the manufacturer, the Realme phone is codenamed “Quicksilver” and Realme is working closely with Qualcomm on its development.
The specs of the phone are still a mystery at this point and so is the design. Nevertheless, we expect it to pack impressive features.
The Snapdragon 778G is an octa-core processor with Kryo 670 CPU (Cortex-A78) cores clocked at 2.4GHz. It has an Adreno 642L GPU, a Hexagon 770 AI Engine, and a Spectra 570L ISP. The chipset will support displays with resolutions up to FHD+ and refresh rates up to 144Hz.
There is a Snapdragon X53 modem that brings support for mmWave and Sub-6 networks. It also has support for SA and NSA networks. Qualcomm says that the peak download speed goes up to 3.3Gbps. The chip has Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6700 as well as support for Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NavIC. Qualcomm has also added support for aptX Adaptive Audio and Snapdragon Sound technology Suite.
Xiaomi has been rolling out MIUI 12.5 update for the past few weeks. For those unaware, MIUI 12.5 is the latest version of Xiaomi’s mobile operating system with improvements for devices running the MIUI 12. The latest phones to receive this update are Mi CC9 Pro and Redmi K30 5G.
Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro / Mi Note 10 Pro
The Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro is the world’s first smartphone with a 108MP camera. This handset is known as Mi Note 10 in global markets. There’s one more variant of this device called Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition (aka Mi Note 10 Pro). The only difference between the regular and this model is the presence of a different lens for the main camera. Hence, these phones run identical software.
Now, the Mi CC9 Pro has started receiving MIUI 12.5 update in China with build number V12.5.2.0.RFDCNXM. The update is being pushed in batches and will be available for all users in the coming days. Similarly, the global variant of this device – Mi Note 10 (Pro) should also get this update in near future.
Redmi K30 5G

During Huawei‘s Full-scene smart life new product launch conference held today, the Huawei FreeBuds 4 was one of the main products unveiled. The wireless earbuds come with active noise cancellation. The FreeBuds 4 is priced at 999 yuan (~$155) and will go on sale on June 1.
In terms of the design, Huawei FreeBuds 4 truly wireless earbuds still use a semi-in-ear design just like FreeBuds 3. Huawei says it collected tens of thousands of 3D human ear model data to create a wearing comfort that meets the needs of more people, making it more comfortable than in-ear headphones. The earbuds are said to fit the user’s ears better and are not stuffy when worn for a long time.
Huawei FreeBuds 4 retains support for active noise cancellation technology, which is more difficult to apply to semi-in-ear headphones. Most of the common active noise reduction headphones use in-ear design, precisely because the in-ear design has better innate sealing. However, to solve this challenge, the FreeBuds 4 adopts the “dual-microphone hybrid noise reduction technology” bringing an excellent noise reduction performance.
In terms of sound quality, Huawei’s FreeBuds 4 uses a classic dynamic speaker structure. It features a liquid crystal composite (LCP) diaphragm that is lighter and more rigid. This takes the headset’s frequency response range up to 40kHz. The bass is also of vivid sound quality.
Further, the FreeBuds 4 is equipped with a high-sensitivity microphone that can record high-fidelity sound with a sampling rate of up to 48 kHz, retaining the rich details of the sound. The microphone also has a powerful noise pickup reduction.
In terms of the smart connection, the FreeBuds 4 supports dual connections with mobile phones, tablets, PCs, watches, and smart screens. For example, when the user is using the tablet to listen to music or watch a movie if a phone call comes in, the tablet will automatically pause the content, and the headset will seamlessly switch to the phone channel. In the Huawei Audio Connection Center, you can switch devices with one key without repeating the tedious operation of disconnecting and connecting before.
Each of the earbuds weighs only 4.1g while the storage box weighs 38g. As for the pricing, the Huawei FreeBuds 4 starts at 999 yuan (~$155) and will be sold via Huawei Mall, Huawei experience stores, major authorized e-commerce, and other retail licensees.

OnePlus switched from HyrdrogenOS to ColorOS for its smartphones in China with the launch of the OnePlus 9 series. The company has also planned to update its older devices to new ColorOS for OnePlus operating system. Keeping up with its words, the brand has released ColorOS 11 ‘Early Access’ builds for OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, and 8T.
OnePlus is known for its operating system, which is called OxygenOS in international markets and HydrogenOS in China. But now, the brand has abandoned HydrogenOS in its home county in favor of ColorOS for OnePlus.
With the decline of Huawei’s smartphone business, OPPO and vivo have been gradually filling the void left by the telecom giant in China. To further push its devices, the Oujia group has been unifying OPPO and OnePlus since last year.
We think the shift to ColorOS on OnePlus smartphones is part of Oujia’s strategy to bump up OnePlus’s market share in China. With ColorOS for OnePlus, the sale of OnePlus devices could improve as HyrdrogenOS is not popular in China. The consumers in this country prefer feature-rich UI with ecosystem benefits.
OnePlus 8 Pro
But unfortunately, the transition process will not be easy for older devices because ColorOS and HydrogenOS are completely different Android skins. Hence, interested users will have to use Windows 10 PC to install the newly released ColorOS 11 Early Access builds on OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, and OnePlus 8T respectively.
That’s not all, these builds are also said to have a plethora of known bugs. Since OnePlus is lately known for software issues, there could be plenty more unknown bugs.
OnePlus 8T
If you are using a Chinese variant of any of three smartphones, you can try out ColorOS 11 by following the installation process mentioned in the official announcement posts on OnePlus Community China (1, 2). But do proceed with caution due to the risks involved.
Having said that, we are not sure how OnePlus will be delivering stable update via OTA to general users. What are your thoughts on this situation? Do let us known in the comment section below.

POCO has announced a new smartphone today. The POCO M3 Pro 5G is its first budget 5G device and that is a big deal for the young phone brand. The device comes with a design that should turn heads, satisfactory specs, and an affordable price tag.
POCO M3 Pro Specs
The POCO M3 Pro 5G has a 6.5-inch screen with a 1080p+ display, a centered punch hole for the front-facing camera, and a 90Hz refresh rate. While the POCO M3 has a Snapdragon 662 processor, the pro version swaps it for a 7nm Dimensity 700 chipset that not only outperforms the former but also the Snapdragon 720G processor on AnTuTu. The phone comes with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. It has a dual-hybrid SIM slot, so you can either pop in two 5G SIM cards or a 5G SIM and a MicroSD card (up to 1TB).

POCO M3 Pro 5G Review: Design
The M3 Pro’s appearance differs from that of the M3, and clearly, changes have been made once again. The lens module is still a vertical triple camera setup, but the large black rectangular design has been removed. The M3 Pro has a new back cover design, with two rounded rectangles near the lens and the POCO logo inside.
The leather-like material on the back cover has been replaced with a mirror-reflective coating, which is a fingerprint magnet. Although this back cover pattern design is pretty unique, and beautiful, I still prefer the M3’s standard design because it leaves a deeper impression. The fingerprint sensor is still on the side of the body. And the M3 Pro is not only equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and IR blaster, but it even features NFC, which is not present on the standard version of the M3. However, we still found some minor drawbacks, such as the omission of the dual speakers found on the standard version.
POCO M3 Pro 5G Review: Display
However, the M3 Pro brings much-needed screen upgrades. Although it is still an LCD 1080P screen, the refresh rate is increased to 90Hz, and the water drop screen has also been replaced with a hole-punch screen. The hole size is larger, but the surrounding shadows are better controlled. The screen looks rather average, but considering it is only a 5G entry phone, to have a 90Hz screen is already ahead of many other phones in the same price range.
So our evaluation of this screen is: it basically meets the needs of a customer in this price segment
POCO M3 Pro 5G Review: Hardware & Gaming
The POCO M3 Pro uses MTK’s Dimensity 700 SOC, which is one of the entry-level 5G chips available, so it makes sense to use it. The phone scores 329087 on AnTuTu, while in Geekbench 5 single-core test it scores 558, and in the multi-core test around 1734.
This score is a little better than the M3’s Snapdragon 662, but not by much. Because it is an entry-level chip, the gaming performance is not very good. PUBG has no way to turn on HDR Graphics and Extreme frame rate, and in HD Graphics you can’t turn on Ultra frame rate, which means if you want to play PUBG at 40fps, you have to turn on Balanced Graphics or Smooth Graphics. The good news is that it still plays smoothly with Balanced Graphics.
Genshin Impact and Brightridge turned out to be too much for this chip, and even with Genshin Impact on Medium Graphics and Motion Blur off, the frame rate is not high. And even though the temperature is only 42 degrees Celsius, there is still a decrease in the CPU frequency in the later stages. Brightridge is only 12fps on average with the highest special effects. While it is not recommended to play these games on an entry-level phone, it’s still possible to play some games that don’t require high performance such as PUBG.
POCO M3 Pro 5G Review: Camera Performance
Main Camera
The lens is still configured with a 48MP main camera plus a depth of field lens and a macro lens. There is no ultra-wide lens. The imaging style is relatively realistic, with moderate HDR intensity, but the colors of the flowers tend to spill over when AI is turned on. The same situation of AI spoiling the images also occurs in the evening. The control of highlights with AI on is not as good as with AI off. Perhaps POCO feels that brighter lights are more pleasing to the eye. But the best performance at night is still with the night mode, the highlight control is better than with AI off, but probably it’s because of the limited ability of CMOS, the detail part of the picture is not much improved.
Night Mode
Night Mode
Night Mode
Night Mode
Portrait Mode
One of the more pleasant surprises is the portrait mode. Because of the assistance of the depth-of-field lens, keying errors are rare. Even if the subject is not a person, the depth of field information can be correctly identified.
macro
macro
As for Video, the M3 Pro only supports 1080P and 720P 30fps recording, but there is Image stabilization. So daily recording won’t be a problem.
POCO M3 Pro 5G Review: Battery Life
POCO M3 Pro Charging
Coming to the battery, the POCO M3 Pro is the same as the M3, it only supports 18W charging power, but the box is equipped with a 22.5w charger. 18w charging power is still slow to fill the 5000mAh battery. Half an hour charges to 35%, and one hour to charge to 67%. It takes 116 minutes to fully charge to 100%. Weak SOC performance also means more power saving. Half an hour of Tik Tok consumes 7%, half an hour of online video uses up 6%. 23 minutes of PUBG drains 5%, and half an hour of Genshin Impact only around 10%.
